Hi Hammesh,
The FRU number of DC in cable for E420s is 04W1756. Refer hardware maintenance manual to understand how to replace it.

Mithun.

  • Hp mini 1035nr dc power jack issue

HP Mini 1035NR DC power jack is no longer making a connection to the power tip. Voltage is consistent on the tip itself. Did not help that my wife has been using this for some time by wiggling the power plug into the DC jack on the side of the netbook and it would "eventually" make a connection. It had been steadily deteriorating over the recent months, and now I can't get a connection at all, the battery has been replaced months ago and it will hold a charge for 2-3 hours easily. But now I'm certain it's the DC power jack within the base of the unit. The power light immediately next to the DC jack no longer lights, that is what we would use as an indicator to know we "jiggled" the tip enough to make a connection.
So my question is has anyone here popped open the unit to replace the power jack? If I pop it open will I have the ability to maybe access the connectors inside the jack to attempt bending them back into place? Must the whole jack be replaced? Is it soldered in place or possibly just a wire connector that I can easily plug/unplug? I did try looking into the jack from the outside with a strong lens and could see the metal tab for the negative voltage (external part of the power tip) connection within the DC jack but could not seem to bend it upwards when I delicately tried with a thin tweezer tip.
Don't want to risk popping this open if when I get inside it's not easily replaced. I'm OK plugging/unplugging, but taking a soldering iron to the board is pushing the envelope. Or has anyone found a slightly fatter power tip that works in this unit from some other power brick that might get a better connection?

It will need to be soldered if you do decide to replace it yourself. My suggestion would be to take it to a computer repair shop or contact HP support to see how much their out-of-warranty repair would be. The number if you are inside the US is 1-800-474-6836.

  • ThinkPad W530 Power Jack Replacement

Hi, I'm trying to replace the power jack in my W530 and I've run into a little problem-- I can't actually get the power jack out of the housing. I've disassembled the laptop to the point where I can replace it, but I can't actually get the jack itself out, it seems to be glued in to the extreme. Does snyone have any tips on how to get the power jack out? I already have the replacement part ready to go. Thanks in advance.

Alright, laptop is working! However, it says the battery isn't charging-- either in the system tray or the LED indicators on the outside. However, as long as it's plugged in, I can use my laptop and the battery won't decrease. Any ideas for what the problem might be?   EDIT: Never mind, it died on me again. A little frustrating.

  • Thinkpad L520 Power Management Issues

    Hi all,
I have to report several issues with my Thinkpad (Core i5 2520M).
Both seem to be related to power management, that's why I decided to put them in one thread.
The problems occur on battery and with ac power connected, I have a 90 Watt power supply.
I am running Windows 7 x64 on my laptop, and I've applied all patches from Microsoft Update and Lenovo System Update.
All drivers are up to date. I am using the latest BIOS file (1.20).
The first problem is: My Thinkpad does not automatically increase CPU speed, it is always staying at 800 Mhz.
Even running Prime95 does not trigger some upscaling.
I experienced the same behaviour under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which I booted to check the problem.
In Windows, I set all power management options to full power (Windows Energy Control Panel and Lenovo Power Manager as well), still no change.
A complete BIOS reset (with removing the CMOS battery) did not change the situation.
The only workaround so far is, to run a software called "ThrottleStop", and to uncheck the box saying "BD PROCHOT". After doing so, the CPU is scaling up to 2.5 Ghz, but still does not enter Turbo mode.
The program has to be re-run after every boot to enable upscaling.
    The second issue is:
I have bought a secondary hard drive bay, and the containing disk keeps spinning down after a few seconds of idle. (Yes, seconds!) The disk is working fine, does not have SMART errors and does not show this behaviour in another laptop and as an external USB drive.
I disabled all power savings options again (Window, Power Manager, and Disk AAPM), which could cause such behaviour, but still no luck. The first hard drive is an SSD, therefore I can't tell, if this drive is also affected by that behaviour.
UPDATE: After booting Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, I can verify that the behaviour is identical to Windows.
Since both of these problems seem to be related to some part of the power management, I am wondering if there is some bug in the BIOS itself or maybe some faulty system driver.
Any help on that would be appreciated, since normally working with the Thinkpad is rather annoying, considering the slow speed and the constant spin-up/down of the drive.
    Best,
    schalli

    Hi,
everybody suggests "hdparm -B 254 /dev/sdxxxx". This does NOT work. At all. The Load Cycle Count keeps going up. The 2nd HDD (in the CD/hdd caddy) powers down every few seconds, then up again.
I found this works: "hdparm -S 25 /dev/sdxxxxx" (change sdXXX in sda, sdb, or whatever relevant to your case). It sets spindown every 25*5 seconds. Second hdd is practically always on and LoadCycleCount remains constant.
I am also using "hdparam -S 0" to disable drive power management entirely.

Please Please can you check something for me?
I have two hard drives (second is in aftermarket caddy), but it seems the second hd (the one in the caddy) is NOT seen by BIOS at boot. So I can only boot from the internal hdd. After booting, the second hdd is seen by Linux, SATA link reports 3Gb, no issues, all is fine.
Same here, the secondary hard drive is not seen in BIOS or in the BIOS boot menu.
After booting Windows/Linux, the drive works fine.
UPDATE: Even in good ol' DOS, the drive is seen. (I just booted DOS for a firmware update of an SSD drive, which was installed in the hard drive caddy.)
Where did you get the BIOS v1.32? The latest on the Lenovo Website and in System Update is 1.20..
Can you verify something for me too?
On my L520, Turbo Mode does not work at all, how about yours?
You can verify under Windows using hwinfo (http://www.hwinfo.com/ ).
For Linux, there's http://code.google.com/p/i7z/ , but you'll have to compile it.

  • ThinkPad T30 Power Up issue

My son's school just had several IBM T30's donated to them, but several refused to power up. I looked them over and noticed that if I quickly tap the power button, they will usually start and work flawlessly. I removed the keyboard on one, and the power button looked fine. I verified this by powering them up with the "quick tap," and they always recognized the power button for a power down. I can push hard and/or wiggle the poer button, but they won't power up - the only thing that works is that quick tap! This is not an obvious way to start a laptop!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and best regards

  • Thinkpad X60 - Power Manager issue

    Hi,
I just have to install the Power Manager version 1.89 into my Thinkpad x60.
However, it shows the "Black" Triangle which is located next to the power manager guage in the task bar.
Before the installation, I have not this problem. And I am using the genuine battery.
Could anyone help ? Any previous version can I download to avoid that problem?
    Thanks,
    Tlee

While I see the information of the black triagnle, it shows "my battery can run 3.x hrs, the new battery can run 5.x hrs" and inform the link to lenovo. It seems ask the user to purchase the new battery.
But I want to point out. my battery is in good condition. I think I no need to purchase the new battery at the time.
Now, my battery is suddenly damaged. While I read the my battery information from the power manger, it shows 99% capacity. But the current is " 0 ". It seems the battery is internal locked.
It is not really likes as you said the battery would likely fail soon. Since, I can use it more than 3 hrs continously ( 8Cells)
Also, I searched many posts and indicated that my battery is the detect unit within Lenovo recall program FRU no: 93P5029.
But nobody inform me before. Now, the recall program is expired..............

  • Power on-Power off issues with X200

I am having power up and power down issues with my Lenovo X200.
Prior to the immediate problem, I would experience occasional unexpected shutdown of the computer (I would hear a relay click when it happened), and on some occasions when I put it into hibernation, then power it back up later it would not resume, instead, it would restart with a new session of Windows.
About a month ago, it shut down while I was using it.  I powered it back on, but it took a long time (nearly a minute) to get the “ThinkPad” initial boot screen, then the screen would be blank for about a minute, then I would get a screen that read, “Intel Management Engine BIOS Extension v 4.0.4.0007” and also “M.E Initializing……”   That screen would show for about a minute, then I got another screen reading “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair.  Please wait.”  That screen would show for about 5 minutes, then it would read, “Generation failed!!!” for about 5 seconds.  After that, it would boot to Windows (I am using Windows 7 Professional).
When I would shut it down, either in hibernate mode or full shutdown, after the hard drive icon stopped flashing (indicating it had shut down), the power icon, battery icon would stay on, and the “sleep” icon would flash.  I would have to hold the power button down to turn those icons off; if I failed to do that the power would stay on until the battery completely drained.
I read something about the “Security chip is generating endorsement key pair” message so I went into BIOS and changed the security chip from “Active” to “Inactive”.  However, when I would start the computer with the chip “inactive”, it would go first to the initial boot screen, then to the “M.E. Initializing” message, then the screen would go blank and remain blank, not ever booting to Windows.  So I went back to BIOS and changed the security chip to “Disabled”.  With it disabled, it will boot up, but still is very slow booting and I still get that “M.E. Intializing” message for about a minute, and also I still have to hold the power button down to power down the computer after I shut it down (or hibernate) with Windows.
The good news is that, after this started happening, I have not encountered an unexpected shutdown nor has it failed to resume the previous windows session if I hibernate it.
Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for your help.

The difference may be that the G5 iMac bus (where your fire wire plugs into the back) is a powered bus. What this means is the LaCie drive will "sense" the power from the bus and not turn off. The power it gets from the fire wire bus however may (is) not be enough to actually operate it, only leave it on. You still need to the drive into a power outlet.
In the LaCie manual (CD that comes with drive) and the FAQ section of LaCie's web page it states this as well.
What I do is manually turn the drive on when needed (performing back up or for scheduled back up). The LaCie drive should be quiet when not in use as it has no fan.
PS - try SuperDuper for backups, much better (IMHO) than Silverkeeper.

  • DC Power Jack part number Satellite M105-S3041

    Greetings,
My Toshiba laptop (M105-S3041) seems to be having a lot of problems with the power.
My OEM Power adapter broke and i bought a replacement (non OEM) from ebay.
That has been working fine till about a month ago I started having problems charging my laptop.
I believe the power adapter is working fine (as the light on the adapter lights up) and I may be having a problem with my power jack.
I have been searching for the model / part number for the DC Power jack without any luck. Would someone please help me out with the correct model/part number, where to buy and the approximate price for it?
Secondly, does anyone know if the power jack is plug 'n' play or does it need to be soldered into the mother board?
I have been pretty good at dis-assembling the laptop and putting it back together (except for one damn screw that does not agree to come off, I will probably saw that guy off).
    Thank
    Ajay

    Hi
Im not quite sure but I think the DC-in socket is soldered to motherboard.
In such case it would be tricky procedure in order to replace this.
But it seems that you are not 100% sure that this part malfunctions.
It could be also the AC adaptor issue as you said, you bought an not original part.
Its just a suggestion but I would try to replace the AC adaptor with an Toshiba recommended one before trying to disassemble the notebook and to replace the DC-in socket.
PS: All parts can be ordered from local Toshiba ASP!

  • Lenovo G550 Power Jack Broken

Over the last week my G550's power jack has become less and less reliable and  eventually stopped charging the laptop at all.
I've seen several discussions about this being a problem but no actual instructions or pictures on how to get access to the motherboard.
Does anyone know anything else about this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

To get to the power jack, you are removing most every screw on the case. Remove the panel above keyboard that houses power button, then there are more screws beneath it. Then you can get to hinges, unscrew them, find another screw at each hinge after hinge is out of the way. Also unfasten the keyboard, but don't rip it out, to find a couple more screws underneath the keyboard. And finally you can take the two halves of the case apart well enough and get in to disconnect the power jack. The DVD drive will slide out, no screws attaching it. The wiring for the power jack goes to a location by the memory where it attaches to the motherboard. I disconnected the cable by the memory and pulled it through easily.
Should take a week for the part to arrive to me. Crossing fingers that the whole trouble is this and nothing else. Found other thread here that talks about securing the jack better: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G550-power-connector-is-this-a-weak-point/td-...
Clearly there is a fault in the design of this laptop model, I think, when many people are having the same fatal issue.
Also, now that I think of it: if you wanted to test if this was the problem for you laptop without the trouble of disassembling everything, you could easily disconnect the power jack by removing the memory cover and unplugging it there; then plug in a replacement power jack (which you'd need to order) and test. If all works, you could then go through the bother of taking everything apart (or finding someone to do it).

Can any one please help me setup wifi/ethernet on my Thinkpad t420? It has Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN. If i am not wrong it is suppose to work by default. How and what modules do i have to load to turn on my wifi card? I know how to make wpa_supplicant work.

    Hi All,
In my ThinkPad E420s, the fan is not very efficient, even after I cleaned it.
I would like to replace it. However, I have hard time to find it.
First, I am not sure what is the FRU number.
I found next possible option here http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd010926
    04W2000
    04W2001
    04W1749
    04W1750
However, how can I find what exact FRU number I need.
Second, where to buy it? Quick search of those 4 numbers on http://www.lenovospareparts.com/ http://lenovoquickpick.com/ did not yield any results.
    I would appreciate any guidance.

  • W530 Power Jack Type

I'm replacing the power jack on my laptop and I think I may have used the wrong part. I used a NO.50.4KBE01.011, but I think the quad-core version uses a different jack-- does anyone here know the proper part number for a quad core W530?
