Thinkpad E431 BATTERY ISSUES capacity dropped to 45% in 1 Year

http://postimg.org/gallery/83uyhbnq/
I have attached the screenshots of Power Manager in Advanced Mode
Note that - Design capacity is listed as 52 Whr but thats not true, it is 62 Whr (as mentioned on Laptop Box when received and also written on the battery itself) I have also attached the battery pics to justify it.
Also in Power Manager the Full Charge Capacity is listed 29 Whr which is not even 50% of its capacity.
I TRIED RESETTING THE BATTERY GAUGE, BUT IT ONLY INCREASED THE PROBLEM BY FURTHER REDUCING THE CHARGE CAPACITY (from 31 to 29 Whr)
Lastly the battery backup is worst - it hardly lasts 1 hour
And the most important thing - all this happened in last couple of weeks (I understand that battery looses its capacity over time but this is a sudden change which means something is faulty)
I TRIED EVERY POSSIBLE SOLUTION LIKE UPDATING BIOS, FIRMWARE AND SOFTWARE BUT NOTHING WORKED FOR ME
My system details are as follows
Serial No - Pxxxxxx
Model No - 62774UQ
Battery Barcode - 11S45N1054Z1ZKG83670RW

  • Thinkpad E431 sleep issues

My Thinkpad E431 gives me trouble waking up from sleep sometimes.
When I open the lid I see that the Fn key light (green) turns on and the red light on the right side starts blinking. It remains this way for a minute before finally waking up from sleep.
It was much worse before I removed all the Lenovo utility software. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Windows 7 Professional
    intel core i5
    8GB ram

For anyone having a similar problem -
It turned out to be in fact a hardware problem. I decided to give it a go instead of waiting a few weeks for Lenovo to fix it. It is surprisingly serviceable, basically disable the battery in the BIOS, remove 10 screws at the bottom, take off the cover (easy with a credit card), remove 1 screw for the battery, take out and un-plug the battery (wrap a small piece of tape around the battery cables to create a pull tab and not damage the cables/connector).
Then the NFC module is at the lower right of the trackpad area, with one connection to the mainboard and one to the antenna in the trackpad. It appears that the cable that goes to the mainboard was pluged in slighty offset - it had bite marks from the connector, but between the copper tracks not on them. I plugged it in again, making sure that it seats properly, put everything back together and now I have working NFC
I'm just a bit baffled that this could pass QC.

  • Thinkpad X230 Battery issues

It's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad  X230.  Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging.  I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging.  But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time.  Then I explored the battery settings a little bit.  I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity."
It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover? Please help!!

If you are running WIndows 7 on your X230, go into Power Manager and find the Battery Maintenance function.  Then run a Reset cycle on the battery and see how it comes up.
The microprocessor in the battery can get out of sync with the battery capacity the X230 think should be available and that can cretae the sort of issue you have described.  Resetting the battery will resync the on board micrprocessor in eth battery with the expected battery capacity in Power Manager.

  • Thinkpad Twist S230U - Battery Issue (Only 1 hour on full charge)

    Hello all,
I'm desperate here. I purchased my Twist from eBay and from that time I've had a battery issue. I was only getting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes off a full charge before it died.
I mostly just tolerated it and had to keep close to an outlet as I assumed the battery was just bad.
In the last week I decided to do someting about it and bought a replacement battery, opened up my laptop, and replaced the old battery with the new one.
Hopeful that my problem had now been remedied, you can imagine my disappointment when the issue was even slightly worse. Now I get an estimated 1:06 on a full charge.
I installed BatteryBar and it tells me "Capacity: 13,870 mWh of 14,060 mWh" and "Battery Wear: 66.9% of 42,480 mHw".
I'm running Windows 8.1. I've replaced the original hard drive with an SSD. I've installed the "Lenovo Settings Dependency Program" and "Lenovo Power Management Driver". I've tried changing power settings. Nothing works.
A one hour battery life is just miserable. Can anyone provide some insight as to what may be done? I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks for the response!
It seems that with Windows 8 there is not a "battery gauge reset" feature included with the Power Manager as there is in other versions of Windows.
Right now I'm trying what is considered a "manual reset" that I read about online. The battery was charged to 100%, now I'm allowing it to drain completely, and then I'll plug it back in and allow it to charge fully.
Is this an appropriate method to reset the battery gauge, or should I be doing something else?
    Thank you.

  • Does Apple replace my Li-Po battery if its capacity drops off 80% before 1000 cycles?

Does Apple replace my Li-Po battery if its capacity drops off 80% before 1000 cycles of charging? And if it happens when MacbookPro is no more in warranty period?
    I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2.4Ghz 4Gb Ram (mid2010).

I agree with fanboy512, it's always a case-by-case basis. Technically, however, Apple will only cover something if it's eligible and within the one-year limited warranty or the three-year AppleCare agreement timeline. There's always extenuating circumstances and that's where it comes down to the case-by-case basis.
At 1,000 cycles, you'd have to put almost a cycle a day on the battery within the three-year AppleCare agreement timeline which for most users is not very practical.

  • Battery capacity dropping and changing constantly?

I recently purchased a MBP 13" a few days ago and downloaded coconut battery to check my battery capacity and it seems to fluctuate a bit. It has been approximately 5 days since I began using the computer. I haven't been keeping the display on the highest brightness (do sometimes, but only when plugged into the charger at home) and keep other power saver settings on but the battery is still at about 5570 mAh, is this good or bad? Coconut battery says this is approximately 96% of the designed 5770 capacity. It dropped down to 5536 just yesterday and has risen back to 5576 as of this post. Is this normal because my computer is so new and it can't exactly calculate how much it has, or am I draining the battery that heavily?
I use it for school daily, and return home with approximately a 35-50% charge (depending upon usage during the school day), and begin charging when it reaches approximately 20%. Should I be charging earlier than this? I know not to let it drop to critical levels such as 10%, but not sure when I should exactly start charing to maximize this batteries lifespan. Thank you for whomever answers!

The small fluctuations you're seeing in your battery's Full Charge Capacity are entirely normal and will continue, perhaps lessening somewhat as time passes. I still see fluctuations (up as well as down) of 2-3% in my two-year-old battery's capacity, though of course the overall trend is gradually downward. It began at 4805mAh (103% of its design capacity of 4650) right out of the box, and it has been reported as low as 4320. It's now at 4530 after 137 cycles (this battery is rated for 300 cycles, unlike yours which is rated for 1000). I don't check it but every couple of months, so it could very well have gone outside that range at times without my noticing. I suspect that part of the reported variation is due to calibration error (I occasionally go longer than I should between calibrations) and part is due to limited precision in the measurement. I just don't worry about it at all, and I recommend that you don't either.

  • 2.1 Battery Issue and WiFi

I updated to 2.1 when it came out and overall quite happy with it. But I am getting very mixed results on battery life.
From morning through arriving home from work the battery stays nearly fully charged. Checking email, running a few apps, watching a little video or listing to audio doesn't make much of a dent.
However once I get home the battery starts a fairly rapid drop even though I'm not using it much at home. The only difference I can see is that a home it connects via WiFi (rest of the day no WiFi is available).
Anyone else with battery issues seeing a similar pattern?

My phone lives in range of wifi most of the day, at work or at home.
I have 3g off because I don't live in a 3g area. I turn it on when I drive to the city.
On days when I'm not on the phone a lot, I get easily a day an a half out of the phone. I'd get longer, but its so darned addictive, and I use google reader a lot to follow a lot of RSS threads, and listen to music, and read my mail.
Another poster above says wifi depletes the battery. I seriously doubt this. The wifi radio uses far less power than the 3G or GSM radio. Its just so much more pleasant to use a fast reliable connection than a flaky slow one, that most people probably use the device more heavily on wifi than they do on 3G.
You are correct in your observation that the last 25% of battery goes a lot more quickly than the first 25%. That is a function of the less than perfect technology used to measure battery capacity of Lithium Ion batteries.

  • Battery issue (6-cells) with my X220

    Hi,
For few weeks now, I have been experiencing a very frustrating battery issue with my X220.
Usually I put my laptop in hibernation while there is still a good battery capacity (70-80%) at night (or before going to work).
On the next day, when restarting the laptop, both Power manager and the windows gauge are indicating close to the same percentage as just before it was stopped the night before.
Then after a random time, ranging from few minutes to a hour or so, windows will notify me that the battery is at a critical level of charge (6%) while just before both Power manager and windows indicator were showing something like 60% remaining.
At that point windows shows 6% while power manager still shows the previous level of charge (let say 60%). After few minutes, Power manager indicator goes all to 6% and then the PC hibernates.
I think that my issue appeared after I updated Power manager, I reinstalled it including its driver with no luck...
I am now performing a battery reset to see if it helps.
I read several other posts regarding similar issues on the lenovo forums, it was suggested that some battery cells might been faulty and that a battery swap might solve the problem. However, as far as I read, it seems that people who performed a battery swap were still experiencing the issue.
I wanted to know if there were any know fix for this battery issue or at least what steps I should be taking to investigate/debug this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To get the obvious out of the way, when your battery life suddenly drops off, are you watching YouTube or surfing Flash-heavy web sites?
Yeah, a sudden drop-off in indicated battery life sounds like a driver issue, so I dunno...maybe you could try rolling back the battery driver or Power Manager. (There's a way to roll back the driver via Windows Device Manager, right? Just make sure you don't uninstall the driver through Windows; there should be a button to click for "roll back driver.") I suggest making regular full-system-image backups of your X220 while you're working on the drivers. With my old x100e, I got myself into trouble after uninstalling AMD Catalyst Controller, and it just refused to reinstall.
Do you think like...a battery calibration would work? Go into Power Manager, Advanced, then Global Settings. Go to the battery low/critical section and click the box that says "do nothing" for when low and critical are reached. Power Manager will force the computer to run, even though the battery will broadcast a 0% level remaining. (And just to be safe, run the calibration with everything closed, use Power Manager to set the CPU to "low," and set a video looping in WMP or something like that, at brightness 11 of 15.)  It's not too healthy for the battery (to deep discharge), but if you get 3-6 hours in that test, it'll be safe to say the problem's in the software, either something hogging CPU power or a driver issue.
I've done it a bunch of times, but in my experience it doesn't change much. I've only ever gotten 7-10 minutes of runtime while the battery says it's at 0%. The laptop will just wink out when it's done, no hibernation.
Try it if you haven't yet.

  • Battery Issues with Mountain Lion

I'm sure I'm not alone here.
Ok, first, a little bit about my machine: mid-2011 MBP, 13", 2.3 GHz Core i5, 4GB of RAM.
Ever since upgrading to ML from Lion, the battery life has decreased exponentially, from 7 hours to 4. The battery capacity dropped at least 2% since the upgrade.
The other problem I have is the ocassional sluggishness that comes with waking up the machine.
So, if you're having similar issues, are you waiting for Apple to fix it with an OTA update or are you doing something about yourself?

10.8 has decreased the battery life. It will be fixed in an update. http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

  • Semi-Scientific Test on iPhone 4S Battery Issue w/two iPhone 4Ss

    All,
My wife and I ordered identical 16 GB iPhone 4Ss. They were set up the same way. From the very start, I could tell that her battery was outperforming mine.
After a day of turning off and on various settings, from Location Services, to Siri, to iTunes settings, etc. I still noticed a huge gap in stand-by performance. I was losing 1% per 10 minutes, her phone was not.
Today, we had similiar usage with similar network characteristics (WiFi, decent 3G coverage) starting from a full charge (100%). After 8 hours, her phone still had 52% remaining. Mine died on the way home from work.
So tonight, I performed a test. I plugged both phones up and allowed them to fully charge to 100%. While plugged up, I ensured each setting on the phone were identical, including the number of Exchange accounts, brightness level, etc. At 9pm CDT, I unplugged them. My phone took a long time to get from 99% to 100%, her phone didn't. Mine also went to 99% upon unplug, her's didn't.
Neither phone was used at all, stayed completely in stand-by mode. At 10:15pm CDT, ...her phone remains at 100%. Mine is now at 92%. That's roughly 1% every 10 minutes on my phone, same thing I saw earlier in the day.
I think this, for me at least, confirms the diverse results folks are seeing. Some folks are seeing major battery issues, some are seeing better battery life over other iOS devices. It just so happens in our house, we have one of each. Why would two identical phones behave so differently? I've exahusted all possible options on my phone, including the recently posted attempt at deleting e-mail accounts and resetting network settings.
Does Apple recommend that I do a restore on my phone? I am trying to do so, but I am having issues re-downloading iOS 5. If I still see the same battery drain, I believe I will take this into the Genius bar.
I do believe it's time that Apple address this battery issue. I for one, based on experience, believe it's real, and could be a manufacturing defect. I don't know how else to explain two identical phones having vastly different stand-by results if my restore fails to fix the issue.

After spending 2 days troubleshooting I have found my battery drain culprit. When I turn my wifi on it coninuously disconnects and reconnects to my network. This was draining my battery about 1% every 4 minutes. I went through all the turn this stuff off, reset network settings, setup phone as new, helped some but still had the issue. This morning I set mine and my wife's up the same, she went to work and was playing music on the way in. Still had 100% after 40 minutes. I was at home with wifi on and dropped to 90%.
I charged my battery back up, turned wifi off and now after an hour still have 100%. This is with siri on, icloud on, notifications on, etc.
Can anyone else confirn this is an issue for them. I am trying to determine if it is hardware or software related.
    Thanks

  • Iphone4s - iMessage, Call & battery issues

I cannont receive text or picture messages via imesssage every once in a while, it never appears to be an issue when i receive from OTHER phones on other networks. I am able to send the messages though. and this issue is not consistent. it happens every now and then.
While i was testing this, i also noticed that when i send an iMessage the receiver is seeing my email Id instead of my phone number. I donno how frequent it is, but i noticed it once.
also, whenever someone calls me i get the call very late, i.e. just when the caller is about to reach my voicemail or disconnect. I have tested this by dialing my phone from a number of other phone including iPhone 4 & 4S from At&t
coming to the battery issues, i ALWAYS have my time zone off(i put my clock 10 min ahead), so i dont see the issue others are facing. But once in a a while i can see the battery dropping from 80% to dead within an hour or two without any usage. I got my iPhone 4s on day 1 and this happened about 4-5 times till now. Everytime i saw this happening, i would terminate all the background apps but that dosent stop the battery from draining.
I went to the apple store yesterday to have it diagnosed and they sent me away telling that I need to make an appointment.
Is anyone else facing the same issues?
Please share the solution if anyone was able to get around these issues.

    Hi,
I had battery issues with my iphone5 ever since I updated to the latest IOS. My battery was draining really fast and my phone was really warm. What I did to solve this problem was: Go into Settings>Mail>Fetch New Data>Push, and make sure you switch push off. In that same section make sure that fetch is set as manually. This means that you have to check your emails when you want to - instead of the notifications going off every minute draining your battery.
I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.

  • IPhone 4S update to iOS 5.1 singal and battery issues

    Hi,
I was on 5.0.1 and had no issues at all loved the phone and my battery life. Eversince I updated to 5.1 my phone signal is awful, 2 bars when I had 5 before, constantly floating, calls drop for no reason. Yesterday nobody was able to reach me until I restarted my phone. Switched phone on in the morning yesterday and I get no service for around 30 minutes, after restarting 3 times it finally found network.
On o2 got my iphone from Apple unlocked.
As to battery life I can loose around 10-20 % in 2-3 hours not doing anything just in stand by, my battery issues were solved with 5.0.1 but started again with 5.1
What is apple doing? it is to say the least frustrating as ****. Fix one thing then break another, or break 2 while fixing them. It ****** me off.
I tried to restore my phone 7 times already set up as new and still no improvement.
One more interesting issue is when you go to your purchases in App store, and click dowload and app dissapears and then reappears on home screen few minutes later once it is done downloading.
Anyone else with this kind of a issue?

    Honestly guys,
It is either apple is blinded by their immense success which will not last if they keep going the direction they going. They should have more time to test their products thouroughly before they put their production line on overdrive. Company this size ignoring issues like that.
I think new Ipad will have problems as well, it seems this line up 4S and new ipad is kind of transition point to a newer devices and were made just to get something out on the market. Using same CPUs same formfactor.
My problem is I payed a fortune for it and it doesnt perform, I dont pay 600 pounds for a phone because I want to have issues with it. What they are doing is plainly ignoring these problems. Battery issue been going on since the release of the phone, going to be a year soon.
Microsoft and Apple changing places, look like microsoft going the right direction now with Widnows 8 and mobiles where as apple comes up with something like Lion which I hated and now Mountain Lion which plainly is running out of ideas and starting to implement some features from iOS, these are completely different devices. They do not need to be the same, they werent created for the same purprose.
I was on apples side all along but they are blinded by their pride in leading this revolution that they choose to ignore these issues. Relying on peoples stupidity to show off things like ipad 3 is 4x faster than tegra 3 where as in real results it came out 15% faster.
Apple get his fixed before it is too late. Scared to buy your products now!!! Good thing I didnt get iPad looking at overheating issues it is having, and also not charging from cable while in use but draining battery. No thanks

  • ThinkPad T440 20B7S05G0F Issues

    Hi Gurus,
    Greetings! I''ve been using ThinkPad for quite long time on during my carrier (Network Security Engineer) I have doubt on my newly bought T400 last week. Somehow, my internal battery indicate "Battery 1 : There is an error", and also driver for certain features that include on this equipment. for the summary as follow;
i5-4300U(2.9GHz), 4GB RAM, 256GB Solid State Drive, 14in 1600x900 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless,
WWAN option, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Camera, 3c Li-Poly, Win7 Pro 64
    Issues:-
    1. Internal Battery issues (was DOA)
    2. Smart Card driver not recognized (installed a few provided on "support dirvers & Download" no avail)
    3. WWAN option/ features (not sure how can i activate and use this features, need more info)

So as for today, I happen to swap my frens internal battery, and it give me a straight forward answer..  see picture below.. So the conclusion is, pitty me to have new equipment with a DOA battery plus waiting for forum and support reply is very poor..

  • Battery issue?

Hey. I've installed my brand new Vertex 4 SSD a couple of days ago, in my Macbook Pro 13" from late 2011... The problem is, that my battery time has dropped from normally being about 7 hours left at full charge, to 5 hours on full charge. I've tried resetting SMC but nothing changed.
Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Nope. I've 16GB of RAM and a 512GB Crucial m4 SSD - I'm still getting right at 6 1/2 - 7 hours on battery (although I never let it run down that far any longer - long story behind that!).
So I don't suspect your RAM or your SSD. Those having issues with ML have seen battery time drop as much as half of the time they were getting before the ML update, some much less. You may want to let your battery run down to about 40% at least twice and plug it back up after each session - see if it might improve after that.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

in malaysia the reseller says 5%. but some says 20%
I recommend to charge it at 20% and use all the battery until your Mac shuts down at least once a month. With this, you'll have a healthy battery
