Thinkpad Edge E530 BIOS

I have updated my (originally Windows 7 equipped) Thinkpad E530 to the latest BIOS version 2.55.
I have also installed Windows 8.1 x64 on it.
My question is: should I use the 'OS Optimized Defaults' in the BIOS or not?
In the BIOS install descriptions, it says to use the OS Optimized Defaults on a Windows 8 (x64) pre-installed machine, and to use the regular defaults on a Windows 7 pre-installed machine.
But my computer was a 7 pre-installed machine, but is now running Windows 8 x64. So which defaults do I need to load?
Kind Regards,
Psycho

Hi,
Thank you for the reply,
To work the system with 'OS optimized defaults', you have reinstall the Windows 8 OS after enabling to 'OS optimized defaults'. If you change the HDD partition format the OS will not work.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hemanth Kumar

    Hi Yasarharafath,
I am sorry for the delay in reply!
I am glad to hear that your system is now booting after using Phoenix Wincrisis Tool. But for this new issue suggest you to check with uninstalling ACPI adapter from the device manager. Remove the battery from the system & power on the system from connecting ‘Power Adapter’. Wait till the system boot completely and then go to ‘Device Manager’ then uninstall ‘Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery’ under battery option. After uninstalling shutdown the system, remove ‘Power Adapter’ and insert the battery then switch ON the system and check.
    Hope this helps.

  • Thinkpad Edge E530 hangs on shutdown

    Hi,
my Edge 530 fails regularly (allthough not every time) to shut down. Instead it hangs on the blue exit screen of my Windows 7 (Home Prem, SP1) and I'm forced to hold the power button down in order to shut down my system.
Windows event viewer shows a bunch of identical reports like this one:
ACPI thermal zone ACPI\ThermalZone\TZ01 has been enumerated.
    _PSV = 368K

Sometimes I get a beep and a message "fan error" on the following start up. Can this be potentially harmful and what shoud I try to do about it?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Thinkpad Edge E530 problem with GT 630M

The problem with GT 630M in the laptop GT580 20150
After updating the BIOS in Windows 8, and install windows 8 has stopped working NVIDIA graphics card
    message:
System Windows stopped this device because it has reported a problem occurs. (Code 43)

After installing the driver card is working properly. After the first reboot card stops working.
    Help solve the problem!
    Please!

    Hello,
I managed to get bluetooth working. The problem was solved after I loaded factory defaults in BIOS.
Now, bluetooth can be enabled by using Fn+F9, for example. 'rfkill unblock/block' also works.
    Now, I have different problem:
Wireless and bluetooth are enabled at boot all the time (I use ubuntu 11.10). I can disable them when linux is up, but if I reboot they will be up again.
I beleive this can be solved (workaround!) by apropriate script which would disable wifi and bluetooth at boot time.
Proper solution would be if bios could remember last wifi/bluetooth state (that was the case before I upgraded firmware to 1.14), or to have all disabled by default.
(Just to mention that state is preserved after suspend/resume which is good)

  • Thinkpad Edge E530. Latest monitor driver messed up HDMI-output

As the title says, since I installed the latest driver for the monitor is the HDMI-output not working. The computer doesn't even recognize that a HDMI-cable is connected anymore. I triied reinstalling the driver, but it is still not woriking. When I reinstall Windows 8.1 completely the HDMI-output is working again, so clearly it is something wrong with the latest driver.

I wanted to reply that I just discovered that my Lenovo AIO no longer likes my converter.  I'm not sure why as I have proven that it works by using it on another device.  The other device is a laptop running Windows 7 Pro.
On a haunch, I plugged in my HDMI TV which has a native HDMI connection and it WORKED.  So, I suppose I'm back to the drawing board and this is indeed not a Lenovo hardware issue.
Does anyone know of any issues with using a HDMI to VGA converter on a Lenovo B540 AIO?  Link below:
    http://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/HDMI-to-VGA-Adapter-Converter-for-Desktop-PC-Laptop-Ultr...
I have the one above but I just noticed there is a HD2VGAE which I'm not sure what the difference is.
    Thanks!

  • Thinkpad edge e530 large bottom cover stripped screw

    Hi,
I have a stripped screw on the large bottom cover caused by using the wrong screwdriver which was my fault. I am guessing warranty will not cover this issue, if not can anybody direct my to getting a new cover with screws in it, as the screws do not come out.
Also if it makes a difference, I put in a repair request through the website, and they shipped me a box to send my laptop in, however since I am a student I NEED this laptop every day and cannot have it in repairs.

Just a small bump, I have the same problem with my Lenovo S440. I plugged in an m.2 SSD, closed it up. The SSD didn't seem to be connected correctly, so I tried to open it up again and 1 screw just totally warped. I did use the correct screwdriver, it's actually exactly the same one as the Lenovo engineer who repaired my laptop yesterday used. I can probably drill it out without doing any damage, but if anyone has a better solution I'd like to hear it. I'm also looking for some replacement screws (the size/type isn't mentioned in the replacement manual, but I' ve already opened at seperate topic for that).
I know this post is quite old, but did you by any chance find a way to take it out?

  • Edge e530 cdrom screw removal

    Hello,
I was trying to place a 2nd hdd to my thinkpad edge e530 so I had to first remove the cdrom drive.
However, I couldn't remove the screw that holds the cdrom which according to the manual is this type:
    M2 × 3 mm, wafer-head, nylon-coated [1]  (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd023403)
I tried with the smallest screwdrivers I had, but it wouldn't turn at all and seems to have some tear on it now.
What kind of screwdriver do I need for this?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Thinkpad edge s230u twist can't access bios by F1,bios recovery

When I tried to update win8.1 updates KB3000850, it failed via auto-update or installation. Follow the Microsoft guide to restart laptop into safe mode, installation failed also. Then I chose safe mode with minimum way to restart laptop. Then laptop halted down at Lenovo logo.
At first, I thought bios is modified by windows8.1(x64) and it can't load any hard disk to boot. With a couple of days test, I found a way to flash BIOS at very beginning of laptop boot. BIOS can be updated. But there is still no startup option to set boot sequence. My laptop is still halted down at Lenovo logo, same as BIOS update. I can only access bios by keeping real clock error which I generated by clearing BIOS.
if no real clock error, i can't access bios. And f1 and f12 doesn't work. At the lonovo logo screen, Enter doesn't work also although it hints me to press Enter.
In my laptop bios, there is no startup option even I udate it.
can somebody help me on this? Lenovo service center just aksed me to change board.
Here I share the bios crisis recovery solution for s230u, may also for other models.
Laptop: ThinkPad edge s230u twist 3347-3QC
    Bios: 1.67, UEFI.
    OS:windows 8.1 x64
How to do BIOS crisi recovery:
    1. Download bios(exe version) from Lenovo website
    2. Run it, and release file. Uncheck the installation at last. Remember the release location. You can get the bios in .fl1 format, mine is in ..\gduj21us\GDETA9WW\
    3. Rename it as BIOS.cap and copy it into a new formatted USB stick with FAT32 in root directory.
    4. Shutdown Laptop and disconnect AC cord. Insert USB stick.
    5. Hold Fn+R, plugging in AC power. And power-on.
    6. USB stick is blinking, then you can release key. A short while, after a lenovo logo, flashing screen shows.
    7. After flash, laptop will restart or shutdown.
In BIOS, it shows new version. If new bios is new one, flashing takes a longer time than a very short time for same version flashing.

I tried 1.02, it will try to read USB stick, then shutdown, restart, read again, laptop would be in this cycle. It's same when i changed one Bit by hex-editor of 1.69 version. I also try to use PhoenixTool 2.59 to rebuild BIOS after change one or two Bits of extracted roms. same status also, it took the changed bios as wrong input, enter the above cycle also.
I tried 1.53, it can show lenovo logo, and flashing screen, but it hints that BIOS should be qual or newer.
I still wait for some on guide. Thanks in advance.

  • Bios protection from infection with virus or bios recovery of Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e545

I have Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e545 laptop. Among downloads there are no bios images but only backup cd iso file. Does laptop bios somehow protected from beeing infected with virus when OS installed on laptop is infected? If not, is there a way to recover bios from usb flash? Or is there some other way to recover already infected bios without help of technical support center?

    Dear Wyacheslav1
    Welcome in lenovo community
Actually there is no relationship between the Virus and the BIOS also the BIOS cannot be infected such as the windows . So if you have any debut that your machine has been attacked by a Virus, you can install any antivirus application to scan for this virus and to protect the machine from such attack
    Thanks
