Thinkpad Mini-dock 250410U: DVI Port

Hi,
I recently purchased a Belkin SOHO KVM switch with DVI and USB connectivity.   However, the DVI ports / cables are DVI-I and the port on my Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock appears to be DVI-D.  I tried using a DVI-I to VGA adapter to and plug it into the VGA port but with no success. Any other ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

I played around it with it some more and I didn't have the laptop pushed far enough into the dock. It seems there are two points at which the laptop clicks while pressing it into the dock. I had already updated the BIOS and now the display extends in Intel GPU mode and with the Radeon. Thanks for your help.

  • ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 UK / Italy difference?

    Hi,
I'm interested in the new T520.
I'm in Germany and the german shop offers 2 versions of the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (UK or Italy)
Whats the difference between the UK and the Italy Version ? Both countrys have other power-plugs than we have in Germany. So which one is right for me?
The description fir the Moni Dock Plus says: "Multiple video ports: 1 VGA monitor, 2 DVI, 2 DisplayPort (Note that the video controller allows for any two video ports to be used simultaneously)"
Is that 2 ports in adition to the ThinkPad's display? Can I use 3 Screens (Thinkpad +  2 at the dock) or only 2 (any configuration).
    Thanks
    Tino

I think the difference would be in the power adapter plug type, but each should be compatible with your machine.
The series 3 plus dock came in 3 flavours in general:
    1. 90 w adapter type
    2. 135 w adapter type (for the W510 machine and also compatible with machines used on the 90 w type).
    3. 170 w adapter type (for the W520 and compatible with the 135 watt and 90 watt adapter type machines).
You can support 4 screens if your T520 came with Nvidia Optimus technology, in that case you can use the 1 vga, any 2 of the DVI/Displayport, and one internal LCD (or displayport on the laptop).
If you get the intel version, then you only support 2 external LCD, or one external LCD with one internal LCD.

  • Advanced Mini-Dock 250410U power supply and compatibility questions.

I just purchased a new T400 2764-CTO which has the discrete video.  I replaced a three year old T43 with a screen that failed.  Lenovoi told me my two port replicators for the T43 would work on the T400.  That proved to be an error.  So now I am in the market for a T400 port replicator.  I am looking at the Lenovo Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock 250410U.  I have purchased two power supplies and so do not need another power supply.  I don't trust Lenovo for an accurate answer.
My questions: Can I purchase an Advanced Mini Dock without the power supply?  And secondly, will this Mini-dock work with the T400 2764-CTO.  (I am running Vista Business as my sole OS.)
    Thanks for any help.

yes, 250410U is the correct part number for the advanced mini dock compatible with the T400.
it is sold with an a/c adapter and unfortunately cannot be purchased separately.   you could, however, resell the adapter if you don't want it.   forum.thinkpads.com has a free marketplace if you're interested.

Would the always on feature on the usb port of my t420s still work (always on) through a thinkpad mini dock?
    Thanks

the Always on Port is the yellow port on the laptop itself, the dock doesn't have these 'always on usb ports'.

  • Thinkpad mini dock 4337 + thinkpad Х220

н.assembled p/n), 92p1157 (сервисный p/n, т.е.

  • Maximum Multiple Monitors with ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W (4338-30U)

Bit of a multi display novice, with a question:
What is the maximum number of external displays that can be utilized with the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W. As I understand it, you can baseline connect three external displays without adapters, so with the laptop that is three monitors (1+3).
Then say you start getting creative and start using adapters, can you go up to five or six external displays? Are there performance issues? Does the computer have trouble recognizing displays, etc.? Would it benefit from a screen management program like UltraMon?
This is for simple excel jockeying, and business productivity, (for instance I would want to have a display for each instance of Excel 1, Excel 2, Excel 3, Word,  Outlook, PDF),  and would use the NVidia Optimus Card for the displays.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Depending on which ThinkPad you got, you can get 3 screens up and working (the W530 i tested could drive 4 external + 1 internal without using things like DP splitter or USB display adapter).

  • Need to connect an Apple Display with an ADC plug to a Mac Mini with a DVI port

I have an older Mac Mini (I'd guess at least 4-5 years old, but I have a terrible memory), and I want to connect a Cinema HD Display with an ADC connector plug. Unfortunately, my Mini only has a DVI port, and I cannot find an Apple adapter, or any adapter for that matter, under 200 dollars, which is an absurd price to simply connect one slightly different plug to another. If a $200 adapter is really the only option, then I will find a different monitor, but I would prefer to connect this one, as it is the most convenient option.

It is far more than a matter of different plugs. The signalling schemes are completely different and it also has to act as an external power supply for the screen. This screen was originally designed to get power from a PowerMac computer.
I found a genuine adapter on Amazon see http://www.amazon.com/Apple-M8661LL-Display-Adapter-4038234011420/dp/B00011KHT2 at $119 but other than that you could look on eBay for a used one.
You are right to consider whether it is worth paying more for a brand new screen rather than trying to extend the life of this old screen. Be aware that if you want to try using Apple's latest 27" ThunderBolt screen you cannot directly connect that to your old Mac mini but could do so by (you guessed it) buying another expensive adapter. In this case you would need an adapter from Kanex see http://www.kanexlive.com/c247dl
You can of course use virtually any standard (non Apple) DVI display.

  • 2504 Mini-dock and DVI?

I've been working with a 2504 minidock, and I've been trying to get numerous different DVI adapters (DVI to VGA), but the plugs never fit the socket. What kind of DVI plug does the 2504 require?

I have the exact same problem - I've tried several vga adaptors that came with video cards, but it seems the right side of the adaptor (the part with the flat metal piece) is too wide and will not fit into the DVI port on the back of the dock.  Could someone please enlighten us?
    Thanks!!

  • ThinkPad Mini Dock (75y5730) Support Gigabit 10/100/1000?

    Hello,
I have been trying to find the tech specs for my docking stations but have had no luck.
Some of my employees have said that the network connection is slow for them and the only thing they have in common is all 3 of them use the same Lenovo docking station.
Below are all the numbers/details i could find for the specific dock that we use:
    Type: 4338
    P/N 75Y5730
    FRU P/N 75Y5731
Any help would be greatly appriciated!

I am really sorry you are experiencing such issues. What makes me really mad is the fact, according to your words, that Lenovo support is directing you to this forum for help? This forum works on volunteer basis, so you might have a luck or not. I mean, you are living in the USA which is the most important market for Lenovo so if I would you, I would escallate the support issue.
Meanwhile, there are two options you might try out:
You could check if the firmware utility driver update helps, http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd028011
or you might try out your luck with the native nVidia drivers, see http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/Quadro_Certified/334.95/334.95-quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit... . The latest helped me to run internal and 2 external monitors with 135W dock http://www.lenovoquickpick.com/deu/accessory/40A20135EU/thinkpad-ultra-dock-135w-eu.

  • Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock (2504) - Ethernet issues

    Good evening:
I'm having issues with my Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock's ethernet port. I've narrowed down to an issue with the docks port by:
Updated driver to the latest on the Lenovo website and still experienced same issues.
Changed the cable connecting the dock to the hub. Still had the same symptoms--worked for some time but then it wouldn't work. I'd disable and re-enbaled the device and sometimes that would do the trick. But it would fail in a few hours.
Connected the cable directly to the DSL modem instead of the hub and no change in behavior.
Finally, kept my Thinkpad T61 undocked for 2 weeks and used the side ethernet port on the laptop itself instead. That did not experience the same symptoms.
I am not sure how to proceed. I had issues with my Thnkpad before and Lenovo support really hit me hard in the pocket. Granted, they did a great job fixing it and the turnaround time was VERY impressive but I do not have the money for another out of warranty repair.
Has anyone experienced similar issues? Or anybody have any suggestions on what else to try?
    Thank you in advance!

I have the same problem, I think.  Ethernet will not connect through the 2504 Mini-Dock.  Works fine if Thinkpad is not connected to the Mini-Dock and ethernet is connected to Thinkpad.  Kind of ruins the point of having a 2504 Mini-Dock.
I guess this is not typical Lenovo quality, because it already lasted over 2 years before it stopped working.  That's pretty much a Lenovo longevity record for me.
Any advice would be welcome, there are refurbished units showing on ebay for ~$25.

  • ThinkPad W520 Docking Station

Hey, everyone. My ThinkPad W520 should be arriving here tomorrow, and along with it, I ordered the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W. Currently, I have two monitors, one running at a resolution of 2048x1152, and the other one running at 1680x1050. I'm just now seeing that the limitation for the DVI ports is 1920x1080, so I'm guessing that won't work to hook these up.
My other route that I can go is by buying a DVI to DisplayPort cable, and then hooking them up that way. Lenovo's site claims that the dock has "Two DisplayPorts supporting 2560 x 1600 resolution," but would that mean I can hook up (these) two displays simultaneously? Inside the W520, is the NVIDIA Quadro 2000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory.
    Thanks in advanced!
    -Joe

well the real limitation of the single link dvi port is actually the 2048x1152 @ 60 hz, but this resolution monitor is seldomly used so they just use WUXGA or FHD as the stated maximum, 30 inch or 27 inch high resolution LCD uses dual link dvi (which is not supported by the dock dvi).
You can hock up two displayport monitors up and still run the internal LCD, since the new W520 uses the optimus graphics technology.

  • T510 not connecting to apple 30' display through mini dock

I am having some difficulties connecting my T510 (NVS 3100m) though my thinkpad mini dock plus series 3 (4338). I am using dvi cable.
So far, the only resolution i am capable of is 1280x800.... instead of 2560x1600.
    Any suggestions?
If possible, i would rather not get the display port/ DVI adapter.
    thx

    Go to Solution.

Make sure you are using a dual dvi cable and not an older single version.  You can usually tell by the amount of pins which are missing in the connector
A dual link cable will have all of the pins included, while a single link digital will be missing 2 rows, and an analog only cable will have even fewer.
I would also make sure that the dock supports dual link as well..
WHAT ARE SINGLE AND DUAL LINKS ?
The Digital formats are available in DVI-D Single-Link and Dual-Link as well as DVI-I Single-Link and Dual-Link format connectors. These DVI cables send information using a digital information format called TMDS (transition minimized differential signaling). Single link cables use one TMDS 165Mhz transmitter, while dual links use two. The dual link DVI pins effectively double the power of transmission and provide an increase of speed and signal quality; i.e. a DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1200, while a DVI dual link can display a resolution of 2560 x 1600.

  • T400 with docking stations, ThinkPad Advanced Dock and ThinkPad Dock II

    Hello,
I think of buying the ThinkPad T400 with one of these docking stations: ThinkPad Advanced Dock or ThinkPad Dock II.
I have several technical questions and haven't found neither appropriate information, nor the way to get it.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Do these docking stations support DVI when T400 with integrated (not discrete) graphics is connected?
    2. Where can I find a complete list of UltraBay devices supported by each one of these docking stations?
    Thanks

I have a T400 with integrated graphics and recently purchased the Advanced Mini Dock 250410U.  The Advanced Dock and Advanced Mini Dock support DVI pass-through.  I looked into this before purchasing as well.
This page will confirm the feature:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-72148.  Also see reference guide for docking stations: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4TPJF4 which says ThinkPad Dock II is discontinued.  This brochure says the Advanced Mini Dock does not support Ultrabay, but the Advanced Dock does.  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options_iso/tp_docking_solutions_june09.pdf .
