Thinkpad s230 No Battery Is Detected

The battery icon in Windows 8 just started saying "No battery is detected".
The system seems to run fine on the battery.  I tried rebooting, but that did not change anything.
When plugged in, the icon shows that it is plugged in, but still says "No battery is detected".
It does not look like I can remove and replace the battery without taking things apart.
Anyone else have this issue?

Thank you!  I had the same "no battery detected" problem with my Thinkpad Twist s230u and unplugging it and running on battery until it died fixed the problem.  BTW, you won't get any notice that you are about to run out of battery ... it will just shut off, so you might not want to be working on your thesis or novel when you lose power.
Hopefully this is something Lenovo can fix with a software or firmware update so more customers don't have the same problem.

  • Thinkpad Yoga - No battery is detected

    Hi,
My Thinkpad Yoga is not detecting battery all of a sudden and it is not working without external power supply. There is a red 'x' mark on the battery icon which says 'No battery is detected'. I didn't use my laptop for the past one month. Is this a hardware issue or something related to software? Could anyone help me diagnose and find a solution?
    Many Thanks,
    Vinoth

There's an option in the BIOS to disable the internal battery. It's normally only used when performing maintenance on internal compnents. Could that have been turned on?
Press F1 at startup to access the setup utility. See http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht076906 if you have any trouble.

  • E535 "no battery is detected"

So, I've had this problem for several months now and never could find a solution or even anyone else with my exact problem. For some unknown reason, one day my laptop just stopped detecting the battery, and accordingly, if it gets unplugged (and the cord comes loose from the both the laptop and adapter quite easily), the laptop shuts down. Occasionally, if the battery is pressed just right, it will be detected and everything's normal, but 99% of the time the laptop acts like there's no battery. The Power Management tool also acts like I have no battery in. This has been extremely frustrating, as I can't even go off AC power without shutting down first and I sometimes lose my work if the cord comes loose.
I've had the laptop for about a year, so it had only been a few months before this problem started occuring. Thank you to anyone who can offer assistance. Also, this is my first time attemtping to ask for help in troubleshooting a problem, so sorry if I'm doing something wrong here or asking in the wrong place. Please let me know if you need more details.
I've been having other problems too, some from the get-go (e.g. updates almost always fail), but this one's been the biggest pain.
I'm still under warranty, but I've been scared to send my laptop in to get looked at or fixed, as I'm not sure how that works (I've never sent anything anywhere to be repaired) and don't know if I'd lose all my stuff and settings or how long I'd be without my laptop.
Again, many thanks in advance for any help offered!

  • My early 2011 MacBook Pro says battery not detected and does not work with a new battery either. Works only with the charger plugged in.

About a year back i had replaced the MLB of my early 2011 macbook pro and it was all working fine. A month back my battery went dead saying "Battery Not Detected". I went to Ample technologies, Bangalore, India and gave it for diagnosis. Ample technologies are the authorized Apple support service in Bangalore, India. After 3 days and no phone calls they email me that "They feel that the MLB MIGHT be the problem and they want to test it by replacing the MLB and i have to pay for their testing". I had already spent 40k indian rupees ($700) less than a year back to replace an MLB and now they want to replace it again at the cost of 43k ($750) indian rupees. I have no idea what to do now. Spending 80k indian rupees ($1400) in less than a year to replace the MLB twice sounds unfair to me. Can someone help me out here ? Is there a valid warranty period applicable , since i have changed the MLB a year back ?

  • Qosmio G10-133 - Battery not detected following Windows 7 upgrade

Hello, I hope someone can help my frustrations here.
Over the last couple of weeks I have successfully upgraded my laptop to Windows 7, increased memory to 2gb, purchased new laptop power lead, brand new battery and and resolved every issue that Windows 7 threw at me. The laptop and works like a dream other than one issue that seems to have got worst.
The laptop no longer recognises the new battery.(picture of battery with cross through it and a power plug) For approximately a week after installing the battery it worked okay but now will not detect it all. I have no errors in the device manager and windows has recognised the ACPI battery entries etc and has no issues. I have also loaded the Toshiba value added package that Windows 7 found for me but still nothing. The battery does not even charge although sometimes the battery works for around 30 secs on boot up if the battery is removed and put back in, and then stops again (once Windows has loaded) I have tried numerous things like disabling driver, reinstalling battery etc but nothing. I did try the battery iniitally with Windows XP and worked fine.
I have also searched the web and have seen many other laptops with Windows 7 have had this problem, including Toshibas. Some say update the BIOS but Toshiba have not released an upgrade since the original one in 2004 (which is for WIn XP Media Center) and there are no settings in my BIOS for ACPI etc.
Also, I cannot calibrate the battery as I cannot do anything with it. I dont think this is an issue though.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it or any links to any drivers etc.
If this is sorted my laptop should last for another 5 years!
    Thanks for reading this.
    Dickie

    Hi
First of all I doubt that many other notebooks with Windows 7 have this issue. I never heard about this and normally the battery charging will not be controlled from the OS. It happens automatically and your battery will be charged if the AC/DC is plugged in. So the OS doesnt affect this!
To be honest I also dont know why your battery isnt detected but what happens if you power off the notebook and leave the AC/DC adaptor connected for 24 hours? After this it should be possible to work on battery minute for 1 hour or more.
If not it seems to be a hardware issue Maybe the battery doesnt work properly anymore and should be replaced. You should contact the dealer where you purchased it
By the way: Here are some nice and interesting tips about battery:

  • ThinkPad S230 Twist Display resolution

    Hello lenovo,
I recently recognized the ThinkPad S230 Twist what could be an adequate replacement for my X300.
But there is one think that's annoying me - why does the display just have a 1366 x 768px resolution where many other 12,5" devices have a full HD resolution?
Will there be a fullHD display available in the future. The frame also looks very thick - perhaps 13" may fit as well - then I would be perfect for my needs.
    LJ

As I see, there is a X1 Carbon with touch - great display resolution and excellent design, but a touch screen on a normal laptop, is that what the people want? I mean, why should a trackpoint-user need a touchscreen, when the device cannot be used as a tablet? Contrary to many states I think convertible devices have potential. Of cause they may not be as handy as a tablet (what is mostly criticized) but it is still much more comfortable to read long reports or just browse some web pages in tablet mode (portrait orientation) than in laptop mode. Tablets are lightweight but often not usable for productive work; Laptops are heavier but more productive. Convertibles imho are the best compromise of both.

  • How do I troubelshoot "low battery level detected" message?

I recently restored my Windows 7 Home Premium to its factory default settings through hp recovery manager. All went fine but I am getting this really annoying message at the startup that "low battery level detected" and the battery needs to be replaced. Before the restore operation, I was getting almost 3 hours of battery support and after the restore I am now getting only half an hour.
I am sure its not the battery, there is something else.
I have tried updating the BIOS.
    Tried calibrating the battery.
I even have calculated the battery rated output voltages and its giving in 11.02 V even after the system recognizes the battery completely drained. There is nothing wrong with the battery.
    Can anyone help me out?

  • HP DV6000 Laptop gives "No Battery Is Detected" error

I have an HP DV6000 with Vista home edition and I replaced the stock battery with an HP replacement battery. Once the replacement battery was installed, I started getting a red line through the battery indicator (in the system tray) and if I hold my mouse over the battery indicator, I get a pop-up saying "No battery is detected".
After researching the problem online, I have updated the BIOS, updated the battery driver, taken the battery out, unplugging the laptop, held down the on/off button for 10 seconds, plugged it in, booted up, put the battery back in, and still get the error.
So tonight, I put the origional battery back in the laptop and I am still getting the same error.
    Any suggestions?

If you already have checked the problem is not the battery ( usually when the battery is new or when the battery is charged on another notebook), or the AC to DC converter, then you must check this first:
    1) Remove your battery,
    2) Unplug your power cord from the notebook,
    3) Push the power button for 15 seconds (if necessary you can hold down for 1 minute),
    4) Plug the power cord into the notebook,
    5) If the power led is on, your power adapter is probably working,
    6) Push the power button,
    7) If the computer powers on, your power adapter is probably working ( it's more certain than before),
    8) Try to use the computer,
    9) After Windows finished the entire start up process, you must insert the battery,
    10) It's expected that the battery icon shows charging.
If it happens to you,  therefore the problem is in the motherboard. The exact point it is in the IC responsible for check and control the status of the battery. Up to know I don't know where is located the fault IC. This fault IC is a Voltage Comparator, usually it is an Operational Amplifier.
If you remove the powerplug the computer will start to drain the battery until the end, but if you reinsert the powerplug  the computer WILL NOT detect, and it will continue to drain the battery until the end.
If you remove the battery with the powerplug inserted, the computer will turn off, cause it doesn´t recognize the power source from the cordplug.
Remove the power plug, insert it again without the battery and the computer must be able to turn on.
If you turn on the computer, and after this you insert the battery than the computer will start to charge the battery.
    Resume:
    A) To charge the battery you must insert the battery after the computer it is on.
    B) To use the battery power you must disconnect the power cord, but you won't be able to charge it until you turn off the computer  and remove the battery, and to follow the step A.
    I verified that the problem happens to all DV6000 ( DV60xx ), DV6100 ( DV61xx ), DV6200 ( DV62xx ), DV6300 ( DV63xx ), DV6400 ( DV64xx ) and DV6500 ( DV65xx ) series.
My case is a HP Pavilion DV6104eu, that I bought in UK.

  • Portege M800 New battery - "No battery is detected"

    Hello!
I bought new original Toshiba battery for my M800-107, since my old one has lost a half of its capacity. The problem is, when I plugged this new battery in Win7 says "Battery connected, No charging" and after that "No Battery Is Detected". When I unplug AC, laptop works, but when I plug it in again, still no charging (no existence of the battery). The red battery charging led is blinking, when AC is unplugged, lighting when AC connected. I have tried everything I found on the internet to solve this problem, but nothing worked :-(
I also tried Ubuntu to see if Win is the problem, but the same problem occured.
    I have bios v. 5.00.
Don't you know any solution? Maybe - new BIOS if there was any newer?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi mate
Please take a look into this Toshiba FAQ:
+Battery is not recognized and does not charge+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB8702EU0001R01.htm
The BIOS must be updated to V3.0 or higher.
Please follow the link attached and choose your model
    http://pc-support.toshiba-europe.com/bios/
After updating the Bios it may take several minutes until the battery is recognized and is charging.
In your case the BIOS seems to be up to date so I dont think that the BIOS might be a problem here
Possibly you should purchase a other battery from Toshiba authorized service provider in your country

    Hello mj-18
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I apologize that the new battery is not being detected in the notebook. I can definitely help you with this!
Normally, a new battery has to be calibrated before it can be used. Sometimes, an un-calibrated battery will not be detected until you calibrate it. I can provide an HP document with instructions on how to do this: Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7)
Following this document will allow you to successfully calibrate the battery. Additionally, it will test the battery for any issues it might have. Please try all of these steps and let me know what happens!
Thanks for choosing the HP Forums. Have a great day!
