Thinkpad S540 touch screen

Last week I bought a S540 and I have been having a hard time with its touch screen since then.
It is inflicted with the "ghost hand"/"ghost in the machine syndrome" - as if someones invisible hand runs over the touchscreen time and time again. I recalibrate and reboot, but it helps only for a while.
I have updated win and drivers but the problem presist.
I manually disabled the driver for touch interface, just so I could use the computer. But  I bought it because of its touchscreen otherwise I would have  chosen a T series.
Assistance of anykind is greatly appriciated.

My windows version is windows 8 (not pro).
I am pretty sure (although not 100%) that the problem was not there when I first used the laptop.
Things I installed yesterday (maybe it can help for you):
- all updates from the Lenovo Solution Center
- all windows updates
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Office 2013
- Virusscanner: AVG Free
- Google Music Manager
The best way to see if the ghost touches are there, is when I try to calibrate my touch screen. I NEVER succeeded in going through the whole callibration process without the ghost touches (which ruin the callibration by the way)
I will try to remove all installed programs and updates and see if it works. If this does not work, I will try to restore my system to the initial restore point.

  • S540 touch screen is glossy or matte ?

Hi, i'm interested in buying the thinkpad s540 touchscreen 1920x1080 in Italy , specs 20B3001VIX , i would like to know if the screen is glossy or matte?, and the touchscreen are 10 points or 5 points?
Do you have any detailed specifications about the model 20B3001VIX ?, because the are not on the lenovo site. thanks

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Lenovo ThinkPad S540 comes with a matte (anti-glare) screen. Anti-glare screens use various techniques to scatter reflected light, and the result is a matte appearance.
It has a 10 point touch screen as well.
Below image details the specifications of 20B3001VIX model.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
In addition, refer the personal specifications reference of S540 to further understand the specifications of the model.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,

  • Thinkpad Yoga - touch screen on left half of the screen unresponsive

    Hi guys!
On my new TPY the touch screen on the left hand side (the side where the charger is connected) is unresponsive. The pen however works perfectly fine. I have already run the lenovo software update tool and updated/installed all the drivers so I wonder what might be the culprit here...?
    Best,
    Chris

if the left hand screen touch is unresponsive, then it is a hardware problem. You would need to send in for service.

  • Disable Thinkpad 10 touch case from switching the screen on automatically

My new thinkpad 10 touch case is pretty sensitive to movement and it seems like my screen is turning on a lot while in my bag. And it drains the battery very fast. Is there a way to turn off the cover from switching the screen on/off? I'd rather just use the power button.
    Thanks for all the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

BIOS 1.23 (32-bit) and 1.63 (64-bit) and up have a new option to disable wake when opening the case.
Even without the BIOS update, you can program the system to sleep or not sleep when *closing* by using the "lid" options in the power control panel.

  • Thinkpad T430s with Multi-touch screen?

I'm currently using a Thinkpad T410-i7 and am considering upgrading to the T430s.
However, I'm interested in the Multi-touch screen option that was available with the T400s/T410s.
Is anyone aware if this option is available in the T430s?

    @ wesleyyin,
    certainly strange. Some questions to help with the diagnostics;
Which TrackPoint cap you you have on your keyboard, soft domed, soft rim or classic domed (the hairy one)?
Can you try disabling the TrackPoint to see the problem goes away?
Anything else laid on top of the system or between screen and keyboard like a thin cloth or something?
    Thanks

  • Touch screen no longer working (Windows 8.1 Lenovo ThinkPad)

Suddenly the touch screen stopped functioning. The screen doesn't "feel" my fingers at all.... I am not an experienced user, and I do not want to "try" various solutions in order to check whether it works or not. I might mess up my whole
    laptop. What is your suggestion?
I've looked at Lenovo web and TechNet, but couldn't find anything related there either.
    Liselotte

    Check this FAQ from Lenovo
    http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/windows8-1/upgrade/ideapad/index_en.html
I suspected you just currently updated your Windows Operating system to Windows 8.1
Some of model listed there not ready yet to upgrade to Windows 8.1 or you haven't update your touchpad driver yet. Some of driver like touchpad need to be update in Windows 8.1
I also suggest you update all the driver if any. Contacting Lenovo is the best way since you don't want to try TS here.
Basic TS for touchpad is only reinstall driver or update, rather than that you should contact Lenovo (HW or 3rd party software issue)
    good luck

  • X1 Carbon Touch Gen2 (20A7005UMN) - touch screen stopped responding

    Hi,
I have the Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch, new as of april 2014, and since last week, the touch screen has stopped responding to touch inputs. Before this it has been working and behaving perfectly.
I have tried to turn the laptop entirely off and on, reboots... No effect. The screen simply acts like it never was touch.
The HID driver is present and claims to be working. I tried to reinstall it and it does so with no errors or warnings. I also tried to reinstall the monitor and graphics card drivers. The Tablet control panel icon offers a calibrate option but Reset is disabled. The calibrate doesn't help because it doesn't respond to touch.
System says it has touch with 10 finger inputs.
Windows 8.1 Update 1, Enterprise SKU
    Any advice is welcome.
UPDATE! Touch works when I lay the screen out flat. But if I return it to any angle, it stops working. Is this related to LayFlat mode or is there a connection fault in the display for touch input so only when I lay it flat it has contact?
    Software or hardware?

I have kept checking on statements from Lenovo about the Thinkpad X1 Carbon for 7 months now, and I have not seen any indication of plans to change the keyboard. I have heard numerous complaints first hand about the keyboard, and the tens of reviews that I have read from around the world the last half year, there is doubt to outright irritation about the 2014 X1 Carbons keyboard and touchpad (the further specs of the 2014 X1 Carbon are of Rolls Royce impression, but because of the ruined keyboard and erroneous touchpad, we have decided not to consider the X1 Carbon further.
    Observations:
Professionals want a large number of direct, true and tactile keys in traditional locations for efficient work. Lenovo has moved away from this fact by taking away keys, creating a touch strip while there is a touch screen already on it, and by changing the position of essential keys or removing them completely to be replaced by non-intuitive key combinations. The Red Dot award was truely earned for the weight and looks of the screen and case, but the keyboard is the weak link that makes the chain weak. Lenovo, Lenovo, Lenovo, what have you done?

  • ThinkPad S540 AMD GPU PROBLEM!!!!

Good day! I recently (2 days ago) purchased a brand new S540 laptop. It worked fine, until I discovered a problem with AMD GPU.
So I have 2 GPUs: Intel HD 4400 and AMD Radeon 8670M. I have the Windows 8 OS. The problem is: any time the laptop is switching to AMD GPU the screen goes black for a fraction of a second, and then I have a notification "driver failure" in windows tray. I installed ALL possible drivers, nothing helped. The AMD GPU doesn't seem to work at all. Moreover, I updated to Windows 8.1 through Windows market, and this caused huge new troubles: when I try to install the GPU driver I have a bsod with a message "thread_stuck_in_driver", something like that, and OS restarts; after restart I can't even see the login window, seems like windows is trying to initialize AMD GPU and I have same blue screen and another restart, only disabling the 8670M video adapter in safe mode helps, but again, exactly until I try to install/enable it again.
I did a factory reset, restored Windows 8 back. Disabled OS update to ensure that I have a laptop "exactly as designed", and again, same problem.
I assume this is a hardware problem, am I right? The laptop was in a brand new box with factory stickers.
    Thanks!

    Ok, no response
Is this thing official, can I hear a feedback from Lenovo support guys?
I sent the laptop back for diagnostics.
I'm afraid that seller will tell me to repair the laptop; for free of course, but I'm not happy to pay full price for repaired device. In such case I can ask to reduce the price, but can't find how much the AMD 8670M costs. Maybe someone here can help? In % for ThinkPad S540 - how much would that be? 10%? 20%?
    Thaks!!

  • T410s Touch Screen Not Working

    Hello all,
We have a T410s that we bought straight from lenovo, and it should include touch screen. We never bothered to actually play with it since ~January when we got it.
Simple Tap is installed, the setting under 'pen and touch' is turned on for touch, but the computer is not responding to it at all.
    So it's a T410s 2901-CTO. I can offer more information if necessary.

  • U410 upgrade to touch screen from standard

Is it possible to upgrade from the stadard U410 the touch model? I know my compluter uses LCD screen B140XTN02.0, but can I just get B140XTN02.3 with the touch screen and digitizer or will there be a missing connection somewhere? If there is, is there a way around that?

  • Permanent settings for touch screen

    Hi All,
I am trying to configure the touch screen, for finger touch, for a Thinkpad X200 Tablet. Using xinput_calibrator, I got the correct Area values for having it calibrated, so with:
    $ xsetwacom --set "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf008 touch" Area 43 81 952 937
I tested it and worked perfectly. To make the changes permanent, I created: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Touch Calibration"
MatchProduct "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf008 touch"
    Option "Area" "43 81 952 937"
    EndSection
But after rebooting, it doesn't work, it just takes the default uncalibrated values, as can be seen on:
$ xsetwacom --get "Serial Wacom Tablet WACf008 touch" "Area"
    0 0 1024 1024
What I am doing wrong? I also tried setting MatchProduct "touch|Touch|TOUCH" just in case, but it doesn't work anyway.
    Cheers,
    Sergi

on the far left on the bottom of your screen you should see the windows symbol hit it. a widow will open showing various different funtions...Too your right of the screen you should see the word control panel hit it.another window will open look for the word screen Display and hit it.another window will open look for the word adjust brightness and hit it.another window will open and on the bottom of your screen you should see the brightness funtion. to adjust screen brightness.

  • Flex - touch screen Pen/Stylus?

    Hello,
we are interested for a touch screen laptop, but this is more for my wife who is a teacher.
She likes the way our Samsung Note handles the S-pen and she would want to use a simialr pen with the laptop at classes.
Is there such a facility for pens with sharp edges to be used with a Flex for example?
Or we should jsut get those black, rubber, thick capacitive pens?
    thanks
    Moderator Note; subject edited

Here is a pen great for writing: http://www.adonit.net/jot/pro/
Just search for 'best capacitive stylus' on Google. Pick the one you like most
Are you interested in the ThinkPad 10 perhaps? It has a digitizer pen, it will also disable touch input while the pen is being used. Which is quite useful. It is a small step up to 700 EUR. Also get the keyboard dock.
    http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/tablets/thinkpad/thinkpad-10/
I can say with 100% certainty your wife will love it. I got its more expensive brother the ThinkPad Helix. If a student can love it, so can the teacher right ;-) ?
The ThinkPad 10 has many flexible options she might be interested in. You won't find anything better for that price.
