Thinkpad T30 Recovery Disk

Due to a missing system file I need to reinstall Windows XP on a T30 Thinkpad laptop.  The user has lost all CD's that came with the computer originally and I need a Recovery Disk in order to do this.  How can I get another one?
Pressing the blue Thinkpad button at bootup does nothing and I've tried to repair the operating system using an XP Professional disk that I have.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

Here is what you need to do :
Call lenovo technical Support
Give them your name and address
they will send you the orginally cds
Here is a tip for you: search for your model under the Drivers&support tab on the lenovo website
do this before calling tech support

  • Thinkpad R52 Recovery Disks -- HELP!

I recently bought a set of Thinkpad R52 Recovery Disks from "ThinkpadRestore.com," and they sent me an incomplete set!
I have all the disks except "Product Recovery CD #2." They won't answer my emails or their phone or the voice messages I've left them. So I'm dead in the water here. I'm going to have to dispute the purchase through Paypal.
I have tons of work to do, and I can't find any way to get this one CD.
Can anyone help me on this? I've looked on the web and don't see any other alternative suppliers. Could someone possibly help me? Does anyone have this one CD? Dropbox? Something?
Thanks for any help you can suggest.

    Hello and welcome,
There's a fairly recent conversation about that vendor over here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/Is-this-a-legitimate-company/td-p/880009
    Doesn't look too good
I don't know if Lenovo support still has R52 media available.  Give them a call: 1-800-426-7378, 24 hr / 7 days
That's where I'd go first for legit recovery media in the US.

  • Thinkpad edge 0578 possibly incomplete recovery disks

My gf said her lenovo is getting slow so I decided to get her an SSD and do a fresh install of win7 on it. She has 3 DVDs created which I believe believe from the lenovo Rescue and recovery software. They are
    DVD1) lenovo recovery boot.
    DVD2) lenovo recovery data1.
    DVD3) lenovo recovery data2.
I swapped in the SSD  and booted with the DVD labeled as "recovery boot" and i enter the lenovo recovery screen with 3 options
    1) quick restore (grayed out, cant be selected)
    2) full restore
    3) rescue files.
I chose full restore and select DVD/CD to locate backup , but it didn't find anything. I subsequently put in DVD2 and DVD3 , it didn't find any backup and prompted for a "final C" DVD. At this point I'm thinking GF didn't create her recovery disk properly. I popped in her original HDD and try to create another recovery disk but it says it can only be done once.
Do you think she's missing a final C disk?
Is there a way to move forward with installing win 7 on her SSD besides recovery DVD from lenovo?
Her laptop model is thinkpad edge 0578 , win 7 home edition. she bought it 2 years ago and it's probably out of warranty.

    Hi,
I"m surprised that your recovery media didn't install all the original drivers.  It should have AFAIK.
If your recovery media is old enough to pre-date SP1 _and_ youve installed an advanced format drive (most HDDs are these days) that could explain the windows update problem.
In that case, this KB should help: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Knowledge-Base/Windows-Update-Fails-After-Installing-New-Hard-...
Once you get win update running try again to get ThinkVantage System Update installed.  That should get your drivers updated.

  • Thinkpad W530: Questions about creating recovery disk

    Hi there.
My machine is thinkpad W530. Recently I had several problems with it so, I decided to recovery the system to the factory setting. However, it didn't work when the OS restarted and entered to Rescue and Recvery screen. I did follow the lenovo official instruction but I got a eorror happened, it said "recovery failed" and the recovery process was stucked.
In addition, I tried to create a recovery disk and it failed, too. The lenovo said I could have only one recovery disk but I don't rember I had created a disk before. I checked the doucments in driver Q:\factoryrecovery, I also didn't find the "service done_ini".
Anyone knows pls help me and your assistance is really apprecated.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with OS on ThinkPad W530.
As you have done all the troubleshooting steps to perform system restore and you are not able to complete the process because of error.
This kind of issue occurs when you have done changes in the HDD partition before creating the recovery disc. Hence the system factory restore option will not work.
Since you have mentioned that the recovery media has not created for the machine, the only option is visiting the nearby authorized service center for the further assistance.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
    Hope this helps!

  • T500 - Windows Update no longer works after using factory recovery disks.

I'm running  Windows 7 32bit.  I needed to restore my T-500 hard drive because of a fatal windows registry error caused by a 3rd party registry cleaner/tuner software... Windows 7 was DOA .
I used the factory recovery disks I created after I first fired up the laptop in April this year, all went well, Windows 7 booted up, and I went through the "Starting Widows for the first time" setup dialog, Windows 7 sucessfully activated... also verfifed it on the Microsoft website.
Went into control panel to have windows update pull down all of the critical updates released after I got my Thinkpad and I got a pop up saying "windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."
I checked... the windows update service is running, so is BITS.  Following suggestions from Microsoft support, I have 1)deleted the softwaredistribution folder from C:\windows, 2) run their "fixit tool", 3) renamed the CatRoot2 folder in C:\windows'system32, all to no avail each time I tried to use windows update after each "fix".
I decided to check here if anyone here has gone down this path before and ask what fixed it?
I'm waiting for Microsoft support to reply to my last email informing them the last instructions to rename the CatRoot2 folder and retry windows update failed. They now have a copy of my windowsupdate.log file sent to them.
How about it... does this situation sound familiar to anyone?
    Thanks.

I run into the same problem with fresh installation of W7 Pro on T530 with 1TB samsung disk.
    This solution worked for me:
Running check for updates will trigger this error message:
“Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.”
    Solution:
    1.    Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service.
    2.    Then go to the folder c: /Windows/SoftwareDistribution and delete all of the files and folders.
    3.    Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate all of those folders again.
    4.    Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work.

  • What's the Part Number for an IdeaPad S12 recovery disk?

    Hello,
I have an IdeaPad S12 (NVidia Ion). The recovery partition is gone. What's the part number for the recovery disk?
I mainly work with ThinkPad systems and Lenovo has an excellent part number system that covers just about every part you could imagine on a ThinkPad laptop. I assume Lenovo is also using this or something similar for it's consumer-line laptops. Sadly, Lenovo doesn't treat it's consumer laptop line with the same dignity as the ThinkPad line, and no customer support agent would tell me the part number, so I'm resorting to the forum for finding it.
    Please help.

    Hi and welcome,
the ideapad as consumer-line has no part list ....as the thinkpads have...

  • Restore from Ubuntu using Lenovo Recovery Disk

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R500 2713-AA5 and I want to install Ubuntu but I don't want to lose the option to recover the system using the Lenovo Recovery disk.
    Is possible to do it?

Almost? Where were you in 1956 when we (IBM) released the first hard drive? Picture attached.

  • Can I create recovery disks using my laptop HD as external drive?

My Thinkpad T420 hard drive crashed in a really bad way. I can't load windows (7) and windows repair says it can't help me. I removed my hard drive and put it in a usb enclosure and connected it to a different pc. I can see the recovery folder/drive and my data drive as two different drives in "my computer". What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way I can create the Win7 recovery discs this way, through what is now an external hard drive. The backup PC I'm using is XP, but I can get another Win7 PC if that makes a difference.
    TIA!

    @Phil18...
I'll offer a few more thoughts.
The recovery partition you're seeing is meant to be accessed by software in the OS partition to enable creation of a Recovery DVD set, or, through a boot-interruption sequence to enable a direct-to-disk recovery of the OS partition. Since you mention that the drive has "crashed in a really bad way", I'm presuming that it doesn't boot any longer.
In this case, my recommendation to you is to contact Service and discuss obtaining a Factory Recovery Disk Set. There may or may not be a charge for this. Contact information is below. Once you have the set, along with a new drive, you'll easily be able to build up the new drive to the factory out-of-box state.

  • Recovery Disk Charge

Hi, finally got round to calling the IBM service line today to request a recovery disk and was disgusted to find that the out of warranty charge for a replacement disk is £40.  My thinkpad X32 was purchased off the great online auction site at a price of £130 only a few months previously and worked superbly until the blue screen of death. I have tried everything to get it working or to reinstally windows and after some research here finally thought I would try this recovery disk only to find out the restrictive price.
I am more than willing to pay £10 to £15 pound for one if anyone has a second hand one but as I am not a millionaire and not even sure if this disk will fix things I am really angry about the whole affair and certainly wont be using anything with an IBM/Lenovo tag on it in future!!!!
this is probably not the place to whinge but I am now out of pocket by about £180 after buying a couple of usb drives and i have written a email complaining to IBM lot of use it will do me. It seems to me the company has taken a very dismissive attitude to the resale market and anyone who bought a second hand thinkpad in good faith believing the company to be a reputable one can just go and whistle down the wind.
    thanks IBM for nothing.

Based on what you've described, you definitely need to test both your RAM and hard drive before buying any software. I'm not terribly familiar with PC Doctor, but if it allows you to boot from CD or USB and run a full hardware scan, do that. Otherwise there are free boot utilities for checking the RAM & HDD.
Also installing a regular copy of XP Pro can be tricky with an OEM license key. They do not usually activate online and you will likely have to call to activate it. They may give you some hassle, plus you'll lose the Rescue & recovery pre-boot partition if that matters.

  • R&R - need to re-create rescue and recovery disk

I created a rescue & recovery disk, foolishly, on an SD card, not knowing that my ThinkPad couldn't boot from an SD card. I bought a similar-sized USB drive and cloned it onto the USB drive but it still won't boot from the USB stick, something about incorrect partition table size or something. So I want to use the R&R program itself to create a recovery disk, correctly, onto a USB stick this time, but now I can't because the program says it will only let me make one! How can I fix this? I figure there's an entry in the registry I need to delete.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What size is the recovery "disk"?  By that I mean how much data?  is it just the bootable R&R program or does it include the full recovery image?  If It's just a CD-worth of data, it's just the bootable part.
If you're convinced you have the full image, you should be able to delete the recovery image partition by opening Q: from within windows.  (Or right clicking, my memory fails me)  You should be offered the option of deleting Q: and adding the recovered space to C:.
This is one way to create media.  That option offers to first "burn" media and then delete Q: - if you haven't already made your media.
Call me old school, but I'd be more comfortable with a set of optical recovery media before deleting Q:

  • Rescue and recovery disk rejected

Cycling through the 6 disk set for rescue and recovery to reset to factory  conditions - disk 4 was not recognized "not the correct disk". Any suggestions for recovery from this, other than maybe starting over?

The six disk set came with the T61 computer. They are labelled "Product Recovery CD" and indicated as "For distribution only with a new ThinkPad PC". I am simply trying to get back to factory settings. Not interested in saving files or applications. Not trying to recover a backup. When I load the recovery disk made when the computer was new, I get a Lenovo rescue screen  with various options, including resetting to factory conditions which instructs to load the six disks. Thanks for any help.

  • Recovery disks for X240

Son's school computer hard drive crashed.  Looks like the recovery partitions migh tbe okay but when I called Lenovo they said they were sending a new drive and the recovery disks for Windows 8.1.  Unfortunately the disks are back ordered.  Any way to create them from another machine (Lenovo Helix) or are they downloadable?  My understanding is the key is imbedded in the machine BIOS.
I need this running again so I can get another battery to replace the one that died (have to be able to read the error message).

    Hi,
I don't know what kind of luck you'd have using media created on a different model machine.  The Lenovo media isn't downloadable to my knowledge.
What you can do, if you don't mind the fuss, is use the link below to download Microsoft media.  If you need the Lenovo stuff too to get past the battery issue, you can then install ThinkVantage System Update and use it to load the Lenovo drivers and software.

  • Windows 7 64 bit recovery disk

    Hello,
I bought ThinkPad T510 with 3 Gb of RAM and Windows 7 32 bit Professinal Russian (I'm from Russia).
I'm going to upgrade RAM in my laptop, but I need to change OS from 32 bit to 64 bit. I know that it is legally possible - the license allows to use 32 or 64 bit variant of same version of the OS. Also I found instructions how to make this possible - contact with Lenovo's support.
The only way for me (customer from Russia) is to contact by phone. I talked to support person, ask for recovery disk of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Russian, but I was told that this is not available in Russia. Period. The only way is manually install Windows 7 Professioanl 64 bit Russian from Microsoft's installation media and use my license number for activation.
But what about the whole bunch of dirvers and other software like ThinkVantage? OK. I can download all these software and install it by hand, but what about recovery and restore, what if I will need to reinstall the whole system from scratch?
Lenovo's recovery disks is the fast and simple way to get working system. Because of that I'm looking for oppurtunity to get recovery disk.
Is there other way to obtain recovery disk? Maybe I can purchase it internationally directly from Lenovo? Or may be it is possible to obtain recovery disk electronically (ISO image should be fine for burn my own copy)?
Can any body help with it? At least by suggesting of recommendation?

You don't actually need Rescue and Recovery.
Window 7 have build in backup and restore capaibility and just as good. Complete a fresh window 7 64 bit installation, load the minimum thinkvantage software you need, install your own personal software and then do a system backup to an external disk or DVD discs.

  • T440s - Unable to create recovery disk

I just got my Thinkpad T440s, my first Thinkpad and I really love the machine! I've been having this issue though which has been spoiling my enjoyment of the device: I can't make the recovery disks. I tried following the instructions here http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024 but I always get this error: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=5DCF305C859982FB!709&authkey=!ANxAZ-i4hSnedBA&v=3&ithint=photo... . On the previous page I can't check the box for copying the recovery partition. In the Disk Management snap-in (diskmgmt.msc) I can see that the recovery partition is there, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I would really like to get the recovery media created, as I can't risk starting to use this machine without recovery media since there is no DVD drive. I would appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks!

    Hi ibrahima,
What kind of media do you try to do your recovery on?
usb flash drive might be 16GB minimum.
Otherwise you should try to restore your laptop to factory defaults and try again.
