Thinkpad T400 and frame buffer 1440x900

Hello!
I can't get the frame buffer working at the native resolution 1440x900 on my Thinkpad T400.
Have added the vga option at the kernel line in Grub.
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda6 ro devfs=nomount vga=0x355
Have tested with 354, 355 and 356. The screen just goes black.
Here is some info I used.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions
Orjanp

If you have an nvidia card, try vga=0x365. That's what I use on my Dell laptop with a Quadro NVS 135M driving a 1440x900 screen.
Failing that, use vga=ask and it will give you a list of all the modes the card you have supports.

  • Thinkpad T400, Win 7 Pro 64bit and sleep

I have a ThinkPad T400 laptop that is running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with SP1. I use a docking station with it as well. When I go home at night, I put the computer to sleep, undock it and take it home with me. On most nights, I don't do anything else with it. When I come in in the morning, I put it in the dock and start it up. However, when I do this, it takes about 5 minutes for the logon screen to appear and another minute or two before I can actually do anything. I've tried different docks with the same result. It isn't hibernating either. Any ideas what may be causing this? I thought Windows 7 was supposed to be fast to resume?

I tend to agree with the suggestion that it's waking from sleep and hibernating. It is at least a strong possibility.
    Does it say "resuming windows"?
OTOH, 5 minutes plus is way too long for a normal resume from hibernation.  I just tested my T400/Win7 Pro 64.  It takes 30 seconds from power on (resuming from hibernation) to the desktop.  I don't require a login on resume.
I don't have SP1 installed.  The graphics driver prevents that for now.

  • Problem with T400 and external monitor (1920x1200 resolution)

    Hi there
    My laptop:
ThinkPad T400 2767-C99* (graphics is: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 256MB / X4500MHD (Switchable Graphics)), OS is WinXP
I just installed the newest video driver from the lenovo page (which also installs "ATI catalyst")
    Externale Monitor:
I just bought a Samsung SyncMaster 2443FW, 24" TFT monitor with maximum resolution 1920x1200
    Problem:
Monitor works great with my newer T400s and my old Acer laptop. However, with my T400 (described above), I can't make the monitor use the 1920x1200 resolution. However, all the other resolutions look ugly so I need it to work with 1920x120
    - If i change the resolution by rightclicking on the Windows XP desktop (and then properties=>settings) and set the screen resolution there to 1920x1200, then my monitor only used a lower resoltion (1440x900) and I get a scrolling effect as I move my pointer across the screen
    - if I use ATI catalyst software to set the resolution, I can only chose smaller resolutions (it does no go up to 1920x1200)
    Questions
Is that a hardware (maybe the graphic card does not support 1920x1200) or a software problem (maybe some problem with the driver) or just a matter of setting?
    What can I do?
Help would be very much appreaciated!

I have already installed the newsest drivers from Lenovo. I don't really see why I should install a non-official driver. I am convinced that it must work somehow with the official driver.
    Kind regards
there are plenty of instances where the official driver have glitches... just look around the forum to find instances of which.... while official drivers maybe better in most instances, there are always the odd case where it doesn't work as well as it should. If they perfectly out of box, then there would never need to be multiple revisions and updates.

  • T400/T500 frame reliability in comparison with T22

    Hello,
my good old venerable T22 has gone yesterday. When I see newest T400s I wonder where has gone famous Thinkpad T frame reliability. Where has gone all those frame "locks" on display which lock into the keyboard frame while display is closed and form sturdy enclosure. Now, at least T400*s* looks like ordinary XXX brand notebook with a visible space (from the side) between keyboad and display... and I'm really worried about its reliability. (so far I've just seen a lot of pictures, nothing more!)
Enough rant, I'd like to go ThinkPad route again. Please recommend me one which is really reliable either T or R I think might do. I would prefer 4:3 display ratio if it's still available on any model. Please also share your views on recent T/R line reliability, since this is the most important point.
    Thanks!
    Karel

they'd be just as reliable. the reason why they're different is because yamato labs changed strategies regarding protection. they used to have an exoskeleton (like your t22 with the frames, or t41's titanium cover), but now they have an endoskeleton (like a roll cage in a car).
i've previously stood on my t400s, and it still works fine. and i was 170lbs back then, so i'm not too bothered about the frame reliability.

  • ThinkPad T400 WiMAX mystery !?

As I can see in BIOS there is a WiMAX adapter listed (it is ThinkPad T400 (2768-AD3)) and on Lenovo support page / drivers section for the exact same model lists: Intel WiMAX 6250 AGN and Intel Wireless WiMAX 5150, but upon installation of those, it says: ...no WiMAX adapter was detected on your computer. It is possible to proceed with installation, but nothing happens. So I'm a bit confused here, does it actually have WiMAX adapter or does it not have??

  • Flex with a virtual frame buffer

I have to run an automated version of my flex app on a
headless server so I'm using a virtual frame buffer (Xvfb) running
on Solaris in an oc4j container.
I can get the following command to 'apparently' launch the
    app:
    String cmd = "/bin/sh DISPLAY=:5 /opt/sfw/bin/firefox "+
    url+" -width 1600 -height 1200";
I say apparently because it does not cause any errors. But
when I send messages to the flex app via BlazeDS for it to do it's
thing...they never get there. I know the program works because it
is fine in my localhost development environment, but how do I get
the app to launch with a virtual frame buffer or more generally, on
    a headless server?

This is a wild guess based on a small amount of research, but
you might want to check the 'headless-server' compiler option - see

Problem to come back from sleep mode  in Lenovo Thinkpad T400 using Windows XP. Each time closing the T400 lid and try to make the laptop into a sleep mode for some time, it does not properly come out of sleep mode. Login screen is able to see when opening the lid for the first time, but it only seen for a while before then a black screen on T400 Thinkpad appears. Sometime the hard drive activity can be shown also. And then, to come back I had only one option to hard re-boot.
I tried Fn+F4 and power button once to come back but no use.
Please provide me some solution for this?

  • [Solved] bluetooth hardware switch - Thinkpad T400

    Hello,
I've got a Thinkpad T400 with integrated bluetooth, but I don't really use bluetooth, so I want to disable it to save battery power.
I figured out, how to disable it via laptop-mode-tools on startup, but when I use the hardware switch for Wlan and bluetooth to turn my Wlan on and off again bluetooth starts up again.
I also figured out that I can disable bluetooth via "echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/bluetooth_enable".
I want to put that command in a script, that is only executed, when the bluetooth hardware is detected.
Now I'm wondering if any of you guys knows some script, like that.
I've already had a look at the udev files, but I couldn't figure out which one will do the job.
Maybe it's the wrong way and there is a lot easier solution.
Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated,
    David

I do this for disabling Bluetooth on my X220 ThinkPad using Fn + F9.
    I created the file /etc/acpi/actions/bluetooth.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    BT_RFKILL=$(rfkill list | grep tpacpi_bluetooth_sw | sed 's/\([0-9]\+\):.*/\1/')
BT_STATE=$(/usr/sbin/rfkill list $BT_RFKILL | grep "Soft blocked: yes")
    if [ "x" == "x$BT_STATE" ]; then
    /usr/sbin/rfkill block $BT_RFKILL
    else
    /usr/sbin/rfkill unblock $BT_RFKILL
    fi
    exit 0
    And the file /etc/acpi/events/bluetoothconf
    event=button/f24.*
    action=/etc/acpi/actions/bluetooth.sh
    Restart acpid.
    # systemctl restart acpid.service
Now I press Fn + F9 to toggle bluetooth off and on.
Rfkill needs to be installed for this to work.

  • Black shadows appears on bottom of the LCD of my Thinkpad T400 laptop!

There are multiple, technically seven, black shadows appearing on the bottom my lcd like black headlights glowing outwards from the bottom. Sometimes it disappears but now it has appeared agian. I'll be thankful for any suggestion.

    Hi Mehran94,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with Display on your ThinkPad T400.
We have verified the image and the issue is related to LCD panel, but I suggest you to check with reseating the LCD cable on both the side which is connected to the LCD panel and also to the system board.
Please click here to visit the link on how to remove the system hardware parts.
    Hope this helps.

  • Solaris 8 (x86) Install Problem | No frame buffer console

    Hi,
I am trying to install Solaris 8 (10/00) on my AMD K7 system. After I have selected the installation media, it will say something like "No usable keyboard", "No frame buffer console" then the installation will stop. I'm booting from the DCA and ACPI is disabled.
The configuration of my system is as follow:
    Thunderbird 1GHz on ASUS A7V
    384MB RAM
Adaptec 29160 (Driver downloaded from Adaptec)
    Seagate U160 Disks
    Plextor UltraPlex CD
    MGA 400 Display card
    104 keyboard & Logitech mouse.
I have checked the HCL, and they are on the list. Please help. Thanks.
    Best regards,
    Jason

    Hi,
I am now trying to install Solaris to my other machine... and hoping it will work. This is a K6-2 PC with 192MB RAM and 2 x 8GB harddisks.
The first disk is occupied by Trustix and Slackware (Both are Linux), and I have the entire second dirve for Solaris. Then when I boot from DCA, my machine will keep rebooting itself. IF I boot from CD, it will say cannot find drive for installing Solaris. I have used LBA/CHS/Normal mode for my harddisk - none of them work. Any idea?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

  • Possible to build PC based frame buffer using PCI 6111?

I'm considering building a variable scan rate, passive capture frame buffer for Scanning Electron Microscopes. There are no off the shelf frame grabbers that support the clock rates I need and so I'm considering building a line grabber with a DAQ style device and building a frame in PC memory. Has anyone done this. Does the 'setup and run' support of a a PCI-6111 support grabbing video lines in rapid succession and then DMA'ing them out before the next video line comes in? Pixel clock is about 38KHz and 640 samples per line.

    Rick Walton,
I noticed that I failed to post the link to the product spec page for the PCI-6111 (it can be found here).
The PCI-6111 can handle sampling rates up to a maximum of 5MS/s (see NI PCI-6111 User Manual).
The sampling rates are indeed programmable at your desired range.
If you have any further questions please post back. You can also look at the NI PCI-6111 page for specific pricing and purchasing inquiries.

  • Elite 3D frame buffer boot error.

    Hi there,
I have a SUN Ultra 10 with a Elite 3D AFB Graphics card, that I recently tried to install.
Without the Elite 3D card (using the inbuilt PGX24 PCI card) the system boots fine and loads X Windows ok. after I install the Elite 3D card I notice a frame buffer error in the boot process and the system freezes just before loading X windows login.
Any ideas what is causing this? Do I need to install any drivers? I am using Solaris 8 and apparantly it should auto detect and configure the card.
Also please note that I use a Belkin KVM with a SUN Adapter to convert SUN I/O to a standard VGA and PS2 keyboard/Mouse. I have set the DIP switches on the Adapter to simulate 1280 x 1024 res. I don't think the adapter is the cause of the error (as I can see the display while booting etc), but thought I'd mentioned it anyways.
Thank you for your help. Please copy your answer to my [email protected]
    Regards,
    David

I have no idea about this framebuffer memory issue... but are you trying to use the mdadm hook or the mdamd_udev hook?  If you are using the mdadm hook, you should really be using the mdadm_udev hook.  The lvm2 hook requires that you have udev in your initramfs anyway, so you might as well use that one.  It is apparently faster and more reliable anyway.

  • Frame buffer driver?

I am currently trying to port a program to Solaris, which uses the pixrect library. I know that the library is not supported under Solaris 2.x systems. However I downloaded a pixrect library patch that someone has wrote. After installing it and compiling it, everything checked out ok. But when I try to run the test files which came with the patch they wont run. Yes I tried to contact the creator 4 times!! After being ignored I figured I would post it and see if anyone out there has tried it or has any ideas. Here is the problem: within the program it declares a char* fb well then it says fb=/dev/fb After trying to execute the program it prints the error: fb_type 22 is unknown Almost as if it doesnt know what fb is. I know that the max min on /dev/fb is 22 0. Also it is symbolically linked. So why this error? Im running it on an Ultra 5 within both Solaris 2.7 and 2.8. I was told that my frame buffer is a PGX24. I am a newbe to all this, (recent computer science grad) however I have talked with many experienced people and they didnt have many answers either. Please if anyone has a better clue than I please email me at [email protected] If you need more to go on I will provide anything you need. Thank you!!!

  • How save factory software on T400 and reinstall after clean install of Windows 7

    Hi
I have a Thinkpad T400  2764-CTO Running Vista Business 32-bit  and want to do a clean install to Windows 7 Pro.
Sounds like I can get all the drivers via System Update 4.0, but I'm concerned about how to save/re-install some of the software that came on the machine.
In particular, Intervideo WinDVD and Roxio Media Import. If I go to my Programs folder and copy the folders for Roxio and InterVideo onto a flash drive, and then re-copy into the Programs folder on the C drive after a clean install, does that work?
I've never used Rescue and Recovery on the laptop, and am not sure how it works. Any advice is appreciated.
I'm not sure I even know all the stuff that exists from the factory. Anything else I should be concerned about? Thanks! - Kathleen

Please review the HP software and driver download page for drivers/software that are compatible with Windows 7. Also note that there is a BIOS update for Windows Vista that improves the system's ability to function with WIndows 7. Also read "Alerts" and other information regarding this product and Windows 7.

  • Images - are there frame buffer copies? How to release those resources?

    Hello,
I'm a bit confused about the memory usage of images (BufferedImage class) in a Swing application.
I have about 50 Buttons (my own class derived from JButton), which use some images to render themselves. The images are cached, of course - although there are 50 button instances, they all use the same set of image instances.
Theses images instances use not more than about 2 mb of heap space (uncompressed images). But when I look at the heap usage via a memory profiler, the memory usage of those buttons is much more than 2 MB.
Now, I'm not a swing expert knowing about all internal structures, so I can't imagine why the buttons instances use a lot more memory than the sum of those image instances (I mean a lot more, not only the memory overhead that comes with the button instances), so maybe you can help me. Is there anything like a frame or drawing buffer, where those images data is copied to and internally used for rendering? I could imagine, that it is much more faster to draw from the graphics card memory than from the normal heap memory, is this correct? Maybe this is the answer, why the memory usage is much higher than those 2 MB?
Additionally, is there anything I have to know about releasing image resources, is there something special? Or is the GC able to free those BufferedImages (and perhaps connected frame buffer copies?) as usual?
    I really appreciate your help
    Thanks a lot

The profiler specifically said there were x+ instances of BufferedImages and that they were using more then 2MB?
