Thinkpad T400 won't start just beep 1-3-3-1

I have a thinkpad T400. Couple of months ago the problem started. I could not shut it down it just keep re-booting. I had to press and hold the start button to shut it. Now it won't boot at all. It beeps 1-3-3-1 and just sits there. When I press start button all lights come ON for a while and after only battery , AC and Ready lights stay ON. Here are few things I did so far without any luck:
1. Removed battery and AC adaptor waited few minutes put it back - same problem
2. Removed CMOS battery. DIMM cards waited for ten minutes replaced - same problem
tried with swapping  DIMM cards - when I put only one card on top slot it says put the card on zero "bottom" position. After placing the Mem card on the bottom slot no thing happens. It beeps again and sit.
When I checked in the manual it says either DIMM or System board. I do not know which one is giving me the problem. I just do not want to replace all parts without knowing. Can any body help please or had similar issue and solutions if you managed to solve it. Thank you.

Could you post your model number from under the laptop? It should be of the form 1234-ABC.

HP Pavilion Entertainment won't start just shows blue screen. Sometimes says missing operating system after changing boot order. I have seen error message 303. This happened after I couldn't stop coolncheap popups so I saved everything to another computer and did a complete restore. When I was in the process of getting it back to working order I allowed updates recommended and optional and then everything started.

  • N97 camera won't start(just a black screen)

My N97 camera won't start just a black screen  this issue since the update to the new firmware

ooooooooops so sorry about this, here it goes and start with the first code.
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
    1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)
    3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

  • Macbook won't start, just a flashing folder w/ "?" appears

macbook won't start, just a flashing folder w/ "?" appears
this happens after it hanged-up and I turned off the power

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • HT2729 When I hit camera then try 'Video' the program won't start just photos. What's wrong?

When I hit camera then try 'Video' the program won't start just photos. What's wrong?

Sounds to me like you are trying to tap on the word VIDEO.
To change to video you don't tap on the word VIDEO. Instead, you drag the centre of the screen down. That will change the option from PHOTO to VIDEO.
Of course, to go back to PHOTO or to SQUARE you drag the centre of the screen up.

  • ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

    Hi everyone.
I am using this forum as i have no other options left, in fixing a Lenovo ThinkPad T500.
The first time, with both battery and power plug connected, or just battery / power connected, when the pw button was pressed, nothing happened (no video, no audio signals, no fan, no hdd, no status leds).
So, i disassembled the laptop, removed all it's components (memory module, keyboard, trackpoint, fingerprint reader, hdd, cd/dvd drive, lcd, wireless, internal modem, cpu, cmos battery).
After a reassembly of the laptop, at power on, status leds are like in the picture below, the cpu fan is running for a couple of seconds, and the hdd is running without the hdd status led flickering, but there is no image on lcd and no audio signals. I tried to power on the laptop with battery and power, just battery and/or just power. In the picture below, there are only the necessary components connected: cpu, memory module, lcd, speakers, keyboard, trackpoint, and also hdd and cv/dvd drive. I also connected a external monitor, but there was no video signal.
As i have no video and/or audio messages/signals, i can't fully diagnose the laptop. I am hoping that someone have had the same situation, or knows what might be the problem.
    I would appreciate any help!
    THANKS.

  • HELP! Macbook won't start, just gives start chime then repeats 3 bleeps??

Hi, I have a white Mac Book 13" bought December 2008 (sorry, don't know much more of the spec). It has always worked fine but yesterday when I started it (fully charged), the start up chime came on and then nothing on screen and the laptop immediately starts bleeping 3 beeps in a row, pause, then 3 bleeps etc etc. I have tried Apple, control power button (as recommended on forum) and the PRAM reset (also as recommended). I have checked battery, nothing else is plugged in. Yesterday after trying all of this I tried putting in the start up disc to see if I could reinstall but nothing changed it and the disc is now stuck in there. Somebody please help, what's wrong with it? Thanks!

Three beeps may suggest a problem with the RAM. You can remove one RAM stick and then the other and toggle which slot they go into. If your Mac still won't start in the different RAM configurations, you may need to see a specialist for additional diagnosis.

  • Ipod touch won't start, just shows screen saying to connect to itunes.

Ipod touch won't start or charge, or do anything other than when I plug it in, the screen shows a picture of the usb cord connecting to itunes. When I tried to connect to itunes using my computer, nothing happened. Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ThinkPad T400 won't boot

My ThinkPad T400 was in sleep mode - on battery power and not plugged in - over the long weekend. Yesterday, I noticed the power light was out, so I plugged the laptop in to recharge the battery. This morning, the laptop will not boot. I have light indicators for the device being plugged in and the battery charging, plus another indicator to the right of the hard drive light that looks like a Z (?). When I press the power button, it sounds like the laptop is preparing to boot, but nothing happens. I've never had any problems whatsoever with this laptop, so I'm at a loss what to try.

  • T400 Won't Start Up, Getting 1-3-3-1 Beep Pattern

    Here's the issue:
One day I was on my computer and it ran out of batteries and the screen went dark. So I plugged it in and turned it back on. It started booting--the icon showed up and it was loading and everything, but all of a sudden the picture got really weird and pixelated and it just froze. So I turned it off and gave it some time to charge. Then I tried to turn it back on--for about 3 seconds it starts making noises and looks like its going to start, but then all the lights turn off. About a second later, it starts up again, and makes the 1-3-3-1 beeping pattern. It remains on, with the battery and power lights on, but the screen doesn't show anything. I've tried booting it up several times now with that same result.
IBM's website claims that the 1-3-3-1 pattern means there's something wrong with the DIMM or the System Board, but I have no idea what to do about either of those.
The product number is 7417 20V.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    RAM dies. Just replace it.

  • LaCie USB 160GB HDD won't mount, just beeps

Purchased a new 160gb LaCie external USB HDD, but can't get the mac to recognise it. I have tried it with and without the additional USB power lead, but nothing happens. The HDD just constantly beeps.
Not sure what to do. We have tested it on other macs (laptops & desktops) and it mounts straight away no problems. The USB ports work for other things fine.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Powerbooks often don't put out enough juice on the USB port to power external hard drives. The external drive may not start up or may start but still not be recognized by the system. One solution is to get a power adapter, as Hardy recommended, or, if possible, to use a Firewire connection (Firewire doesn't have the power issue USB has). There's also an advantage to using a Firewire connection, in that Powerbooks can only boot from a Firewire device. So, a USB only hard drive, once it starts up, is fine for backup but cannot be used to boot the system, if needed. Lacie sells a power adapter for around AU$25.
