ThinkPad T410 compared with Dell Latitude E6410

Hi,
Came across and enjoyed this detailed comparison this morning. Spoiler: neither machine is perfect in the reviewer's eyes.

Even better: Pay it forward, help someone else.

Dell's Latitude now looks very similar with the HP Elitebook. Quality wise, i am not sure if it is better or worse than new Thinkpads or Elitebooks.
Lenovo Thinkpad is priced extremely competitively in North America, which is at a detriment to the consumers in other parts of world.

  • Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop for PPCC editing?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Dell Latitude E6410 Laptop for mobile editing when I travel.  My question is would it be sufficient to use for editing on PPCC?  It will have an Intel Core I5 processor and 8gb of RAM.

I've personally used a e6410 with Premiere Pro CS5 with 8GB of RAM and while it does "run" Premiere Pro, it is FAR away from what I would deem a good laptop for Premiere Pro. This model is years old and the newer models do several things that help with Adobe a lot: take more RAM (16GB is much better than 8GB for PPro), drives are faster (SSDs much more common, my e6410 had a 256GB SSD and not many did back when this model was born 4 yrs ago), and as Bill already pointed out much more cable 22nm die quad core CPUs with hyperthreading (so, 8 cores available to PPro for editing).
You do not mention your workflow, but obviously editing DV would be much more acceptable on marginal hardware than trying to edit AVCHD or GoPro 4k!
I would expect a used e6410 to be worth about $250 today (street price). I really don't know why you would buy one now really? You can buy a sub-$1000 Asus and with a few modifications put together a really good "new" laptop so that may be a better option for you today.

  • Dell Latitude E6410 Blank Screen

I have Arch installed on an external USB drive. It works fine on two different laptops using ATI cards and using the generic ati driver. Now I'm trying it on a Dell Latitude E6410 which has an nVidia card (NVS 3100M). At first I had both the generic ati and the vesa drivers installed. With just these two, X started, but it was simply a bunch of colored pixels randomly assorted. Using the generic xf86-video-nv yielded an error and X wouldn't start. Using nouveau I got a little closer, except rather than not starting or displaying strange color assortments, the screen simply seemed to either go black or turn off. I've looked around and apparently nouveau does work with this graphics card, but I'm not sure why it isn't right now.

nickramos wrote:Ok, I did get it to work on the laptop using nouveau, but only by adding configuration options to xorg.
But now, because of this, my ATI computers won't load X. Is there any way to make it so that the correct driver is loaded depending on the machine being used?
That's the hard part. That's what I was talking about.
Of course you can manually switch the configs  and reboot.
You need to hack initscripts or sth like that
    if $hostname = ati do

  • MSI R7 260X 2GD5 OCV1 comparability with Dell XPS 435MT

I have a Dell XPS 435MT with an i7920 processor. I have upgraded the system to a 600 Watt power supply. Will the R7 260X work in this system?  The motherboard has a PCI 16e slot, but is only PCI 2.0. The R7 is PCI Express 3.0. Will there be any comparability problems?  Thanks!

We can't tell you. PCI- E should be fine. While AMD cards' downwards compatibility is not as good as nvidia cards' it should still work, theoretically. Only Dell can confirm if their machine is compatible with current generation vgas. Besides PCI-E an old bios not supporting current vgas can still spoil any chance of running the card.

  • Reset BIOS on Dell Latitude E6410

We have 10 of these machines that were used in a non-profit educational project where the BIOS password was changed by students who then left.
We tried removing the CMOS battery (coin battery) but that makes no difference, other than bumping the date back to 2011. The BIOS setup is still locked, and you can't even change the date without a password.
    Any other suggestions?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2015/07/21/hack-connected-car-raises-alarm-over-driver-safety/304...There are a number of things that bug me about this:
    1. Almost every network device I've seen to flash the firmware you have to have a direct tie into the device to do the update. Unless it's like a home router where you click browse and select a new software.
    2. Who thought remote flashing of firmware of something like this was wise? Granted doing it direct is a bit annoying, but I would say is more secure. Unless you have some sort of a central management system flashing something is going to reset it to factory, and allow hacker to do whatever they want. I think flashing something like this should only be done by authorized shops and they would have to have some sort of an electronic card to authenticate then plug in the ODBC2 port...

  • Poor PXI IO performance on Latitude E6410 with ExpressCard 8360

    Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude E6410 with a Core-i5 M520 which is giving me very poor io performance when using an ExpressCard 8360 card to connect to a PXI Rack.
The sustained IO rate that I can get appears to be about 1/3 of that that I can get using the same ExpressCard on a Dell Latitude E6400 (with a Core2Duo processor).
I am using the A05 bios (latest at time of writing) on the E6410.
    Wade.

I am running Windows XP (32 bit) sp3 in both cases.
The E6410 has 4GByte of memory fitted.
The E6400 has 2GByte of memory fitted.
I have also use the same ExpressCard 8360 via a PXIe to ExpressCard Adaptor in a Desktop machine with similar performance figures to the E6400 - i.e. much better than the E6410.
The Desktop Machine is an HP Compaq D7900 with 4GByte of memory, Core2Duo E8500 also running Windows XP sp3 (32 bit).
Also, on the Desktop, I am running NI PXI Platform Services 2.3.2 and NI-Visa runtime version 4.3.
On the E6410, I am running NI PXI Platform Services 2.5.2 and NI-Visa runtime version 4.6.
I no longer have access to the E6400 so I am not sure what sofware versions were installed. However, they are unlikely to be new than the versions installed on the E6410.

  • I cant download all my iPhone photos onto my Dell Latitude laptop. I get the impression that Apple are trying to force me to buy iCloud space in order for me to do this. If so then I'm done with Apple products. I would rather buy a Samsung in the fut

If you cant read what I've written above then your system is just pathetic. At my age, I don't need to be instructed on "how to write a good question". Why must a brief detailed  technical question be summarized? Why cant I do the supposedly simple task of downloading "all" of my photos from my 64g iPhone 5s onto my Dell Latitude E6410 laptop in one simple press of the button process? Instead my Laptop is always trying to download mega gigabytes of all my laptop photos onto my iPhone. I am now totally convinced that the Apple Corporation has implemented a scheme trying to "force" me, and every other Apple customer, to buy more iCloud storage instead of allowing us the cheaper option of storing our own photos on our own lap tops and our own external hard drives. If this is the case then Apples tactics are back-firing, and I for one, will never buy another complicated, user-unfriendly, rotten capitalistic Apple product again. If there is a simple way of downloading all of my photos onto my laptop in one simple move then why cant it "simply" show you how to do it, like all the other companies smart phones do? From one **** of an irate customer. K.I.S.S. or lose customers. Don't try to rip us off financially, with devious money making schemes, the general public will respond accordingly and you WILL lose market share.

Go buy a Samsung if its suits you better then and don't be rude these are user forums !
Give Google more information about you what you do where you are etc....... TO TARGET adverts at YOU via Android at the same time.
Or whats wrong with the FREE photo stream conduit that over air transfers images to your pc pictures folder (And you don't need to buy any extra storage ever) the images just transfer !
Also what is so difficult with plugging in to a USB socket and having images automatically uploaded/downloaded into your Pictures folder ?
Unless of course your PC USB is a slow 1.1 socket !
True the sync process is all encompassing rather then delta but it does mean true syncing

  • Do the ThinkPad T410 / T410s support Intel vPro?

    Hi there,
According to this post: http://tinyurl.com/22skbmd, the ThinkPad T410 / T410s models come with vPro, but it's not clear in Lenovo's documentation if these models come with vPro:
    -ThinkPad T410 laptop (http://tinyurl.com/vprolaptop)
    -ThinkPad T410s laptop with integrated/switchable graphics (http://tinyurl.com/vprolaptop2)
So, do they come with vpro? or they don't?
    Thank you,
    Javier Andrés Cáceres Alvis

Hi! We maintain a list of PCs with Intel vPro technology from some of the major manufacturers over on the Intel vPro Expert Center. The T410 and T410s are listed. :-) Here is the entire list: http://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-2033.

  • Have a new Dell Latitude with Adobe X Standard pre-loaded.  Purchased upgrade to Adobe XI Pro today

Have new Dell Latitude laptop with Adobe X Standard pre-loaded.  Purchased upgrade to Adobe XI Pro today and have Serial #.  Installed the upgrade successfully, but it is asking for the Serial # of the previous version...  I don't have that Serial# and in the process of the upgrade it unistalled the old version so don't really have a place to look back to.  What next?

    Hi Dan,
From where did you order the older Acrobat X Standard?
If it was a boxed product then the serial number must be behind the case, else if it was downloaded, login to your Adobe account and check the same.
Else contact Customer care or Chat with a tech support and they would be able to help you.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad T410 got errors with Fingerprint sensor device! So frustrating!

I have just bought a new Lenovo Thinkpad T410 2518-FAA from one of main agencies of Lenovo in my country. The new-buy laptop was said to be totally new, i.e. it was not a re-furbished, and I actually checked for manything to confirm the real status of this laptop. However, when I bought it back to my house, a serious problem appeared. At the laptop store, I did not have enough time to check the Fingerprint device, thus I skipped to check it. When I came back home, the Fingerprint sensor error of this new-buy laptop completely drived me crazy!!! I installed the Fingerprint software of Lenovo, but this software continuously reported errors: "Can not enroll users, can not update passport, and can not find fingerprint sensor device." I have tried uninstalled and reinstalled this software many times, and already checked for the latest version of this software, it was Thinkvantage Fingerprint sofware 5.9.3 for Win 7-32 bit. My operation system is Win 7-32 bit. But these errors still appeared again and again. I already checked the status of TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor in Biometric Devices, uninstalled then re-installled this device, and it showed that this device was working properly and up-to-date, and I already unchecked the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", but all of my efforts was in vain!!! These errors still appeared and it drives me crazy! Up to now I had been unable to enroll my fingerprint to set up the fingerprint reader! These 3 errors just kept prompting in front of my eyes! Another problem is that the laptop can transfer files to my Nokia E51 mobile via Bluetooth, but I could not make the reverse transfer for a file from this mobile to laptop! Oh, I am very disappointed about Lenovo now! Inside the manufacture box that carried the laptop, there are just some instruction guides without any installation CD for installing Thinkvantage softwares... I had to go to the website of Lenovo and find a bunch of links of softwares that I tried many times but I still did not know how to donwload... I had to donwload the Thinkvantage Fingerprint software from another website... Please help me, guys! Did you encounter the same problem with me? May you please instruct me how to solve these problems! Thank you a lot!

    hey Moon_Light,
i would suggest uninstalling all ThinkVantage software, then go to http://support.lenovo.com ; download all drivers for you unit and install.
at the same time do a bios update as well.

  • Using Dell Latitude D630 with Intel 965 Express Chipset with Adobe CS6 Photoshop 3D features

    Hello,
    Here is my configuration:
    - I am using Windows 7, 4-bit OS
    - Dell Latitude D630, which comes with Intel Mobile 965 Express Chipset and Accelleration Drivers.
    - If I press CTRL-ALT-F12, I can see the Intel Graphics Media Acccelerator Driver GUI.  There are 3D settings
configuration, which are labelled with OpenGL, and a bunch of values that can flipped on and off.  So, I have some
warm fuzzy that OpenGL is enabled on my systme.
    - When I look at the details of the driver, it says 9/23/2009, driver version 8.15.10.1930.  If I attempt to update
driver,  and select search automatically, "Windows determined the driver software for your device is up to date".
So, this gives me some warm fuzzy that I'm on the latest driver.
When I open up PhotoShop CS6, and click on Edit->Preferences->Performance, Detected Graphics processor
is grayed out and I am told that I need to upgrade either my driver or my card.  Well, I'm on a laptop so that might
    be an issue.
My driver seems to support OpenGL, so is there some configuration thing I can do to get Photoshop to recognize my
video accelerator to make this work?   Or am I out of luck with using 3D and accelerated features with this laptop?

I did try to go through the Intel driver upgrade process.
Visited http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu (Intel Driver update Utility) with IE.
Detected my graphics drivers and indicated that:
    Product Detected
    Intel® GM965
                    Current Driver Installed
                    8.15.10.1930
    Your driver is current.
So, nothing useful there.   What I find puzzling is the when I hit CTRL-ALT-F12 and click on 3D settings, there
are plenty of configuraiton choices for OpenGL, with many settings being Off.   So, I was hoping that either (a)
there is some combination of choices with these OpenGL options to enable enough of it so that Photoshop CS6 3D features
would work, or (b) maybe registry settings to hack at to "enable" OpenGL or some way of getting Adobe software to try to
rediscover the accelleration support once I change the settings.

  • Using Dell Latitude D630 with Windows 7 and Adobe CS6 - PCMCIA hardware accelerators?

I have a separate thread going using the hardware accelleration that comes with the Intel Mobile 965 Express Chipset not working
for me, and trying to figure out how to get OpenGL and 3d features of Photoshop CS6 to work.
So, I was thinking maybe a work-around.  Are there supported PCMCIA card graphics accelerators that anyone could recommend
that would work with Windows 7 and interface via PCMCIA that meet the requirements to be used with Adobe CS6?

A Dell Latitude 630 isn't enough machine to do what you want to do, I owned one. Geerks.com had a great laptop today for 379.

  • Is the thunderbolt display compatible with Dell laptop (Latitude 6430)?

Is the thunderbolt display compatible with Dell laptop (Latitude 6430)?

Since the specs for the Dell laptop (Latitude 6430) do not list ThunderBolt as one of the supported bus structures that means it does not have a ThunderBolt port to connect the ThunderBolt display to. Hence is not compatible.

  • Disappointed with ThinkPad T410 ( Angry and frustrated consumer!)

To everyone who is thinking of buying a ThinkPad,
ThinkPad is always my first choice for laptops as it is one of the best engineered PCs in the world , with remarkable quality and standards that no other Windows PCs is able to offer. I have been a Think series user for a very long time and have not had the thought of changing to another brand until now!
Last year, I bought a ThinkPad T410 as I was to further my education and a laptop was an essential product for my course that I enrolled in. I was awed by this ThinkPad as it was said to provide good after sales service and quality built machines. However, the good old ThinkPad conception do really stop there!
For the past 1 year, I have been through many unhappy moments with this product as Lenovo did not deliver what it has promised. The laptop that i bought give me lots of problems and have been through the trouble of servicing this laptop 5 times! Unbelievable! I have paid for a premium that i did not receive and warranty does not stay true to it! DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR WARRANTY!
I am really upset by the fact that whenever I called for assistance through the phone , the onsite engineer will always tell us to repair the product ourselves. Not being a qualified technician, I have always make it worst and the recent experience was the WORST any customer will get!!
I phone and told the engineers about the problem and the told me to send a screen shot over. I did as I was told and the next day I receive a call again. The engineer told me to keep trying to unlock the latch behind the disc drive myself when the whole disk drive was stuck in the machine. Lo and behold after much struggle, I manage to remove the disk drive, however, the latch sink deeper into the machine! The engineer came today ( 18/05/2011) to take a look at the problem and told my mother that it will cost about $200 to fix it back! I am appalled by such nonsense, utterly upset. My mother who did not know what have happened just said that my friend spoiled it, and the engineer just said that it will then cost $200 to fix it, as it was due to improper maintenance! Unbelievable!
Firstly I have spent so much time and effort to send the screenshot over and you told me to handle the case myself. Now you blame me for improper maintenance???  What sort of rubbish?
Previously , the service centre charged me $32.10 for software reset but the error still persist ( though less occurrence now). I have wait 1.30 hours at the service center just for the engineer to change my biometric as it was not done up properly before returning the machine to me at that time too.
I am now utterly upset and really have all my view changed about Leno as the standard have dropped rather drastically. Engineers and the management seemed to be apathetic towards my plight , that has forced me to think of buying other brand of PC's. Shouldn't I be compensated??? You have wasted a lot of my time and effort and transport cost to go get things done, as you on site warranty does not hold true! I hope ( if possible) a replacement could be made as the machine have failed me from time to time, and wasted a lot of my time and effort.
I hope someone of a higher authority could give me a call to find out more and settle it for me and I hope that such things will not happen again!
     With Regards from:
    Lim Yong Jie

    Hi limyongjie,
I own a T410 and so far so good. However, I'm sorry for what you have been through. I must say that not all laptops are free of bugs.
In regard to the instruction given by engineer, there are occasions whereby a customer can change/tweak something without having engineers to pay a visit. However, if you're not confident at doing that, i suggest to tell engineers that you are not familiar with it, and need assistance from them by coming over to fix it. I'm not pointing fingers but that is just my opinion.
For you current issue, could you provide Serge1410 your details for he can get someone to look into your case. Alright? Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Cleo
