ThinkPad T430s No Sound Through Headphones or Internal Speakers

My laptop is unable to play sound through both headphones/earphones and its internal speakers.
I downloaded and installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from the following site: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t43... .
As a result, the Device Manager shows that the HD Audio Device is working properly.
Also, there is a green check mark over the internal speakers icon and headphones icon (when I plug the headphones into the jack), which was not present before I installed the Realtek Driver.
However, there is still an "X" over the audio icon in the taskbar.
When I click on the audio icon, the following window appears, stating that the audio device is disabled.
I have went through various forums and solutions, but none have been helpful so far.
Thank you so much for your time and help for this issue!

The Unknown Device seems to have disappeared from my Device Manager when I restarted my laptop. However, the HD Audio Device is still there.
My audio stopped working around December 23, 2014. Since then, I have tried to find solutions on various other sites. But, when I search for the System Restore, it only brings up a recent Windows Update.
Roll Back for the HD Audio Device is greyed out.
Also, after uninstalling the HD Audio Device and rebooting Windows, this dialog appears, mentioning that the Unidentified Device is something that was unplugged, which I think are the headphones. Also, there was a Failed installation for the Audio Device.
Thanks so much for helping me look into this problem.

  • HP Pavilion Dv7 Windows 7 No sound through headphone jack or speakers

Hello. I have been having trouble with the sound of my laptop for quite some time.
I discovered this forum, and was trying to find my laptop's problem, except I found that I could not find a thread that pertains to my laptop's individual problem. As stated in the title of this thread, my laptop does not play sound through the headphone jack or speakers. However, when I plug in a usb headset the sound works. I want to rule out the possibility that this is something I can fix myself before I have this computer sent in to be repared.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software that runs the sound (I forget what it's called). I also tried turning off the laptop, removing the battery and holding down the power but ton for 30 seconds; that didn't work. I have tried making headphones and speakers the default audio, except that didn't work either. It seems that maybe my laptop is just broken, and this is the second time this has happened. (The second time, what the hell!)

    Hello Pandabear277 and MicrosoftUser,
What is your product number and operating system?
    Thanks

  • No sound through headphones or attached speakers

Hello. My Ipad 2 in general works very well and the sound is fine. However, if I plug headphones or somelike like external speakers into the Ipad I get no sound out. It used to work but only recently stopped. I can't help but wonder if there is some setting I am missing more than there being a physical problem with the audio jack since the audio jack barely gets used and was fine with no signs of trouble. Any way to reset the sound settings to see if something got set wrong?

  • Sound Through Headphones Stops

I have a Pavilion Dv7-6b01TX and recently I have been experiencing an issue where after a while, the laptop refuses to play sound through headphones, even when there's a pair of headphones plugged in. I've seen other problems like this, and the solution is to reinstall the sound drivers, but I have already done this 3 times. The only solution is to restart the laptop, but that is purely temporary and only lasts a couple of hours, at most.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I assume the guitar has electronics? If so, you must have some sort of ground loop. However, recording an acoustic using the electronics will not give the best acoustic sound, if that is what you are after. A mic on an acoustic will give a much more pleasing acoustic sound.

i have no sound through headphones?

did u try going to system preferences , sound, output, then select headphones?

  • No sound through my built-in speakers

Why can't I get sound through my built in speakers (there's a circle with a line through that comes up on my screen when I hit any of the sound buttons on the keyboard and my earphone port has a red light) but I can get sound when I plug earphones in...
Is there anyway to troubleshoot this on my own?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    Best.

  • Sound Preferences: switches from Internal Speakers to Digital Out

I've been having this problem recently. I sent the computer off to Apple a few weeks ago and it helped for a while, but no longer.
My computer has a problem with it's sound output jack or something. Without inserting anything into the plug, the Sound will change for "Internal Speakers" to "Digital Out" and to "Built-in Output" in the Sound Preferences Panel.
    Any suggestions?

I have a 4 month old macbook and experiencing the same problem. Just realized it after installing itunes 8 and since then having a stuttering audio playback problem too. When i plug my headphones into the audiojack the sound switches from headphones to speakers and back as well as itunes playing tracks in a stop and go mode. I repaired the rights several times, installed quicktime 7.5.5 again, reinstalled itunes 8 and for sure running the latest leopard version 10.5.5.
Also thought it could be a hardware problem but after reading this it seems more software related.
    Any idea?

  • No sound from internal speakers however i get sound through headphones when plugged in

i am not getting sound out of the laptop internal speakers when nothing is plugged into the headphone jacks.  if i plug headphones or external speakers the sound is verified to be on because i get sound / volume.  Any thoughts /  ideas?  Thanks

Sorry, I do not have a solution to offer. But I have exactly the same issue. HP Pavilion TX2000, now just out of Costco warranty period (naturally). Sound from built-in and external speakers worked for about 2 years and a handful of months. A couple weeks ago, when I unplugged the external speakers, the built-in speakers would work only sporadically. Eventually, the built-in speakers ceased to work at all. Now, external speakers have ceased to work, too. I can get something resembling sound from Logitech USB speakers, but if these are configured for stereo the sound crackles and pops beyond belief. Setting to mono works. For now.
I can only believe this is a hardware failure. Time-to-failure for this product is unacceptable, but what does HP care? It made it past the warranty, right?

  • Windows 7 on my iMac won't play sounds through headphones

On Windows 7, I can't make sounds play through my headphones plugged into the audio jack; the internal speakers always do it instead. The headphones don't appear in the "Playback devices" column, even though RealTek recognises that something's been plugged in/unplugged to it.
Also, the latest version of Boot Camp software drivers I burned to a DVD after upgrading to Lion (v.4.0) refuses to start; it keeps saying that 'Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model"; I was able to install the v.3.0 drivers by using "Troubleshoot compatability" within the Drivers/Apple/BootCampx64 before, but now it insists I use setup.exe- which refuses to install, even in compatability mode!
It's incredibly aggravating, since I always use my good headphones for gaming so I don't disturb my wife! Help!

So the Bootcamp 4.0 drivers won't work with my 2008 iMac? I'm running 3.3 then, and the problem persists.
I've just tried uninstalling the RealTek drivers; Windows seems to auto-install a "High Definition Audio Device" that DOES play sounds through the headphones... albeit incredibly quietly. Barely perceptible at full volume. I've tried to install the Cirrus drivers from the 4.0 Bootcamp disk; they claim to install correctly (in less than a second, which makes me skeptical), but they still don't appear.
It seems I can have Realtek and no headphones, or no Realtek and minimal sound...

  • Sound output, comes out headphones AND internal speakers

I've had my refurbished PBG4 1.33 GHz for a few months and when I plug in headphones, the sound comes out the headphones AND the internal speakers of the laptop. I've tried messing w/ the System Prefs/Output with no luck whatsoever. Any suggestions, or anybody else have this problem at all? I've read threads here that have been similar but not quite this particular problem. I need the sound to ONLY come through the headphones when they are plugged in. Kinda defeats the purpose if sound still comes out the laptop internal speakers w/ headphones plugged in.

GO to System Preferences and open "sound".
In "Output" make sure you have selected "headphones" as the source.
In "Input" make sure you have selected "line in"
Also make sure your headphones are plugged into the correct socket. There are two. The one you should be using is the one nearest the front of the computer.

  • No sound through headphones on iMac

Today, when I turned on my iMac running Lion 10.7.5 I discovered that there was no sound coming through the headphones. I have tried multiple headphones and it still doesn't work. When I plug the headphones in it stops playing the sound through the internal speakers but no sound is coming through the headphones. When I try to change the volume(when the headphones are plugged in) all the white bars are full as if it was on full volume but the volume won't change and underneath there is a white circle with a line through it(the no-entry sign) I believe it is a software issue as the computer recognises that something is plugged in but it won't play the sound. In system preferences in the sound section it is always on internal speakers, there is no option to change it even when I plug in the headphones. I am confused as to what the issue is so has anyone had this problem before? And did you overcome this issue?
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Andy,
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • No sound through headphones/microphone ALC892

I've been trying for days to fix this issue, and am lost.  I've got a new desktop and cannot get sound to come out my headphones, or take input from my microphone.  I believe my sound card driver is installed correctly, and that it is a pulseaudio problem.  I've gone through the troubleshooter on Arch's alsa, and pulseaudio wiki pages.  I do get sound through my monitor speakers when I use HDMI, but would prefer headphones.  I have tried Debian, Linux Mint, Manjaro, and crunchbang and none of them have had working audio for me.
where I see a problem is in pavucontrol, all my profiles, and input/output devices say (unplugged).  So in output devices, and next to Headphones it says (unplugged) when it is plugged in, same with my mic.  i see the visualizer playing to the music under headphones though.
    everything is unmuted in alsamixer.
I've tried both the front panel mic/headphone port, and the back panel.
    thanks in advance.
EDIT: i did get sound to play through my roommates USB headset, they have there own sound card. So sound does work, but I cannot always use these and still want to get sound through my headphones/mic.

Perhaps you have previous configuration files on your system (~/.asoundrc or similar)? You might want to look at you mapping of signal paths/jacks with hdajackretask found in alsa-tools (Frontpanel might be inactive on your particular hardware setup). Double check if correct module model is loaded for your card (line 36).
If you kill pulseaudio, does aplay produce sound?
To unload jack detection module this should work:
    pacmd unload-module module-switch-on-port-available
Some people have issues with pulseaudio since upgrade to 5.0, so checkout changelog for configuration changes, here in forum there are several topics on this matter.

Whoa, I found the answer by clicking on one of the questions in the "More Like This" box to the right.  I do  wonder how to find that box before posting my dumb question.  The answer turned out to be checking the youtube volume control.  I turned that up and it solved the problem for Comast as well.

  • Can't get sound through headphones

I cannot get sound through earbuds

Couple of things to check here.
    1.  Toggle volume buttons on headset
    2.  Check sound settings
    2.  Try a different headset to rule out the phone
    3.  If a second headset does not work check the headphone jack for debris
    4.  If no debris, and the phone is still under warranty, contact Apple Support or go by an Apple Store for service
