ThinkPad T500 Hard Drive "Holder" Part Number(s)??

I have a ThinkPad T500 ca. late 2008, I want to buy another hard drive "holder" for it just like the one holding the existing hard drive.
Is this available at the parts store, what are the part number(s) involved??
Can someone please point me in the right direction??
Thank you, Tom

what does the x300 look like I've not seen one
The X300 uses 1.8inch HDD, the rails will not be able to hold the smaller drive if it's able to hold T500's 2.5'' drive. Also, X3xx series doesn't require HDD caddy. I think this is what lead_org meant.
Hope this helps.

  • Need hard drive screw part number for T500 please

I want to buy a spare screw for the screw used to screw the hard drive cover to the base of my T500 notebook.
Where is it possible to find the part number so I can buy this??
What IS the part number/name I should use??
Perhaps someone knows the specific size/dimensions/etc. required to buy an off-the-shelf screw??
I tried calling support but there is no way to speak to a human to explain what I'm looking for, which is unusual and specific.
    Thank you, Tom

    Hi tlyczko,
The part number for the screw set is listed in the Hardware Maintenance Manual. You can buy them here.
Hope this helps, and come back and tell us how it goes!

  • My external hard drive holding half my iMovie events and projects has crashed: how do I restore the events from another source?

My external hard drive holding half my iMovie events and projects has become corrupted.  I have now downloaded all the same files (from a backup in the cloud) to another hard drive - but iMovie is not "seeing" those events or movies in that external hard drive.  Q1 Is there a way of rectifying that?  (I.e. telling iMovie to point to the relevant folders or files on the new external hard drive)
Q2 I have a TimeMachine backup of the corrupted drive in another drive which i keep elsewhere.  Is it worth me attempting to restore from that backup? And if so where can I restore to (as the original external drive is corrupted) and how do i go about that restore process so that the events and projects re-appear?
thanks in advance for your help.  (I thought i would check re Q2 before embarking on the wrong method!)

When I right click on an image, then went to Go to Folder in Library, it pulls up the new external hard drive where I made the new link. When I try to work on the photos, the image still says file image is offline or missing. When I right click on the image to Show in Finder, it says the image could not be used because the original file could not be found. I eventually did click on their locate and found the image. When I linked those two together, a few minutes later ALL the "?" went missing and now IT WORKS!!!!
    That was weird!
Hope this helps someone else in my predicament.

  • X200/X300 Hard drive holder/adaptor

Hi, I recently replaced the SSD in the X200 to a normal 2.5" HDD. However, the new HDD does not fit exactly in the holder and leaves some room to wiggle. Is there a Lenovo harddrive holder or adaptor that would stabilize the HDD inside the bay? The old SSD had a 1.8" to 2.5" adaptor that secured it in place. I need something similar for this 2.5" HDD.
    Thanks!

I'm not an X200 user, but it sounds like you need a 2.5" drive caddy for your hard drive.
Here is one place you can get a suitable caddy...  http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=36
Lenovo should also be able to supply them, but I don't have the Lenovo part number handy.

  • Thinkpad Twist- Hard Drive issues

Hello all! I have a ThinkPad Twist that is still under warranty. A couple of weeks ago I got a 2100 HDD detection error . I am currently based in a rural part of Mexico for work (for a few months) and called into the US service center and they said I needed a new hard drive. As you can imagine, I was pretty frustrated to have the laptop die like this when it is way less than a year old. Anyway, the support center said that they could not mail the hard drive directly to Mexico but that they could mail it to a colleague in the US who was coming out here this past weekend. I got the hard drive yesterday and, as requested, called up the support center and they said that their systems have been down so they could not walk me through the reinstallation process, as they had said they could. The attendant directed me to a document I'd that would supposedly explain step by step how to change out the hard drive but I looked it up and it is for a different model all together...in the meantime, I went ahead and opened the new hard drive. From what I can tell, it is an SSD and my system has a HDD. They look completely different-Help! Is there a way to install the SSD or do I have no other option but to have them send another one to someone in the US and then get it brought out to me? Thanks in advance for your help. Oh, and the nearest authorized Lenovo service provider (3rd party) is about a 16 hour bus ride from here....

do you have picture of the two hdd that you have in your possession?

  • Thinkpad T530 Hard Drive Cloning

    Hello,
I'm looking for best practices, recommendations, lessons learned, etc. for copying the hard drive contents of one T530 to nine other identical T530s recently purchased for software engineering usage.  A current snap shot of our old laptops shows that  we have 214 programs loaded (majority of these programs are not pre-loaded from Lenova), so I'm looking for the most efficient and painless way of getting all the laptops loaded with an identical image.  In the past we have used Norton Ghost but encountered issues with using legacy IBM Thinkpad laptops.  Does the built-in Rescue and Recovery handle this process?  Is a 3rd party product (such as Norton Ghost) recommended?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

+1 for Acronis.  You _can_ also do this with Rescue and Recovery, but it's quite a bit slower in my experience.
Pull a full drive image onto bootable media, then restore to the other drives when they are installed in the target machines.
[edit] Or boot Acronis stand-alone on each machine and clone from the original drive in an external enclosure/adapter.  The options re resizing and preservation of volume ID (probably not what you want) are somewhat different when cloning vs restoring.
Historically, there have been cloning problems with ThinkPads when the target drive wasn't actually installed when it was written.  Something to do with the way BIOS addresses the drives.  This may not be a problem with newer machines, but ti's generally recommended.

  • ThinkPad Twist hard drive issues TWICE in 1.5 years!

    Hi,
I purchased a ThinkPad Twist in early December 2012.  After about 3 weeks, I experienced a hard drive crash.  I took the laptop to Staples where I first purchased it who told me the drive crashed.  I then contacted Lenovo and after months of trying to get the problem resolved, I finally did get a working hard drive and a new keyboard as that apparently was also defective.  My computer was working again (finally) in April of 2013.
Now, literally a year later, I have experienced yet another hard drive crash as well as the motherboard going out according to Staples tech team.  They were shocked to hear I had only had the laptop for a year and a half and that it was a Lenovo as apparently Lenovo is a trusted name in laptops.  Apparently, my unit was a "lemon" to have experienced so many severe issues in such a short amount of time according to the Staples tech department.
I have always carried it in a padded laptop case, have never dropped it, and have not abused it in any way, shape, or form.  Yet, I currently have a dead laptop that will take hundreds of dollars to get working again.  Even if I did pay that to get it working, I have so little trust in the thing after 2 hard drive failures in such a short amount of time that I would only use it for internet and use our older Dell laptop (that we've had for 6 years with NO issues mind you) for any important documents and files.
I am hoping there is something that Lenovo can do to help rectify this situation as I clearly have some defective parts or an entire defective Twist laptop on my hands.  Please help!  Help restore my faith in the Lenovo name for both their products and their business/service.
    Thank you!
    Jeremy and Stephanie Bradshaw

Did anyone respond to you? I am having a similar problem and have heard there is an issue with the connection to the hard drive, but I'm not inclined to get it fixed since I've had horrible experience with Lenovo customer support so far.

  • Second hard drive and serial number

    Hi,
I bougth HP Pavilion dv7, 7230 with one 1Tb hard drive inside before 2 months. And I have "only" 2 problems. At first, official website doesn't know my notebook, when I have "automatic dection" and also when I write serial number manually. Why? Second, in this notebook with my configuration is only 1 hard drive inside. Second bay is free. Of course, I have one hard drive from my older notebook and i want to get it to my new notebook. But, something in wrong. I bought special cable to connect second drive, but when I connect it to the motherboard I can't turn on my computer. But I think that wrong is in cable, not in hard drive, because when I connect only cable without hard drive at the end of this this cable, do it the same. Is there any special "safety pin" or anything similar? Or must I allow this disk in any special program? Or what?  Had anyone similar problem?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I agree with you on that special cable. Dont use it.  Purchase another one from a supplier.  You must use an HP part or suppliers part that is guaranteed to crossover to the HP part number. There is no special pin or clip. It just has to be the correct part. See below for more specific information
To make sure that you have the correct serial number, look in either the HP Support Assistant and the bottom of the window or in BIOS in system information.
I blanked the serial number of my current HP product loan for privacy.
    Which one is yours?
All of the models listed above use the following HP p/n information for the part you need for the hard disk(s).

  • Thinkpad x100e Hard Drive Clicking Sound

I don't know if it just a faulty hard drive or the way it is suppose to sound, but I can hear the clicking on the hard driver every time it is reading the hard drive. I just bought this on Monday January 25th and got it in the mail on the 27th. The first day I booted it up, I noticed it have a slight clicking sound. Didn't really think anything about but I have noticed that it had started to click more often. I have not noticed any problems with windows yet, no errors or it crashing/restarting. I ran Lenovo's software to check out the harddrive and it came up with no problems, at least on that end.  But the clicking is audible enough to hear it from 4-5 feet away, if you are trying to listen to it.
I am just wondering if I should send this back to get it fixed before I actually start using it, or if this is just a typical sound.
    Thanks,
    cpbs

Hello cpbs, welcome to Lenovo forums!
Some hdd´s are clickier that others and a faulty hdd on such a new machine like yours is rather unlikely.
The noise maybe distort you, because the whole system itself is very quiet?
Please tell us your model number, not S/N, OS and used HDD attached to your system, when posting issues, then it will be easier to narrow it down to specific configurations.

  • The Toshiba website doesn't recognize my hard drive's serial number and P/N

    Hello,
I bought my Toshiba Canvio Basics 3.0 hard drive from Amazon a little under two months ago. The hard drive stopped working for some reason (I didn't drop it or anything, it just stopped working).
I was of course trying to use my warranty to fix it or exchange it, but the Toshiba website doesn't recognize my serial number and product number. They're right there, black and white on the sticker on the back of my hard drive, but the website says they're invalid.
Anyone has any clue what's going on? I'd rather not throw 50 euros out the window for less than two months of use.
Product number is HDTB105XK3AA -- and not HDTB105*E*K3AA as some websites say (including Amazon).
    Thanks for your help.

Just adding to the above comments, I have a simialr issue. bought a 3gb drive from amazon and now 8 months later it has just stopped working (wont power up at all) again it has just sat new to my computer working fine for the last 8 months and has now just stopped.
I contacted amazon and got this reply from the seller:
    "Hi Jack,
Thanks for your e-mail and apologies for the problems with your laptop. Your laptop comes with a 1 year manufacturer warranty directly with Toshiba so they should be able to resolve this for you. Their customer contact number is 0333 222 7444 or if you prefer to go online the Toshiba Computer Support website (http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/generic/computing-support/) has full contact/ e-mail options.
    Kind regards,

So came here to try and find more details but cannot find the model or anything regarding warranty, any assistance glady recieved
