ThinkPad T510 - both sets of mouse buttons acting strange

A few days ago, on my ThinkPad t510, the mouse buttons for both trackpad and trackpoint went haywire. Left clicks were registering as right click.. and right click buttons did nothing.
At first, I thought "haha, someone's pulled a prank on me and swapped them".. Negative. After checking in mouse control panel, all was well. Ran System Update and Windows Update, all up to date. Ran the gamut of spyware and malware tools, nothing.
Then I booted into a Live Linux environment, to eliminate the possibility of undetected malware and anything on the Windows 7 install itself being corrupt. Same thing was going on.
If I use a usb external mouse, it fixes it, but still the integrated right click buttons don't work.
I've ordered a new keyboard and palmrest w/ trackpad assembly, in case it's that... so we shall see.
However, has anyone had anything like this happen? Or have any idea what may be causing it?

Hi, I got the same problem on my T510 4313 , this weekend. I tried the configuration ,  but eventually just reloaded the OS , factory reinstall. it worked for an afternoon and back to the same problem. I see you ordered the new keybaord and palm rest, did that fix the problem?

  • Mouse is acting strange (only in PS)

In every other application, a short move in the mouse goes from side to side of the screen but is not happening in PS. The ratio tablet-screen is 1:1 now. If the cursor is in the center of the screen and I lift the mouse and put it down again at a different area of the tablet, it won't stay in the center of the screen but move to the screen point relative to the tablet (am I being clear?).  I set mouse acceleration and mouse speed to the max and nothing changes.
    I'm using PS CS5 and Wacom Intuos3

I did and they are all the same. Not that I can do too much with the mouse mapping. The pen has the Full or Portion options but not the mouse. My pen is set on full because that is what I want and it moves fast. The mouse is acting as in Full, but moving slower than the pen.

  • Magic mouse suddenly acting strange?

My magic mouse stopped functioning normally... single click acts like double click... Text selection tool is wonky; drag select words ends up selecting entire paragraph... could not move objects around in InDesign... can barely move finder and application windows, it lags and move only a short distance... delayed reactions all round. I cannot even move icons around on the desktop…I am using Wacom tablet (usb) right now.
    Changed batteries
Tried to turn bluetooth off and back on; no change.
Tried removing apple and bluetooh related plist's: no change.
Also tried to lower the 'power' setting on my Bell modem default was 4 went down to 3 (whatever that means) also made no difference. I Don’t want to reduce the quality of my internet connection to fix interference on my bluetooth signal (if this is the issue). I even pulled the power plug on my modem no wiFi
... and still, my mouse has gone rogue!
I have read quite a few posts (some go back a few years) with similar issues and have yet to find a solution. Zapping P ram seem a little excessive - any thoughts?
Any solutions? Is it possible, these little magic mice just simply have a short lifespan  : (
The only computer/software changes were done months ago (new internet service & hardware Early Jan) and (Mavericks when it was released last year)
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Dbonte

Hi seventy one, Thanks again for all your help. I finally got the magic mouse to work properly... After I spent two days reading posts, troubleshooting and finally posting my querie... It came back to the 1st thing i looked at!
    The batteries.
I have been using (the same 4) rechargable AA batteries since the life of the mouse. And even though they showed as 100% charged in the system mouse preferences, the batteries must have weakened over time.
I popped in a fresh set of (off the shelf) Duracells and POW! no more crazy mouse action. I know that Apple has it's own charger & rechargable batteries for its products; so I may look into this. In the meantime, I think it pays to have good quality batteries for something I use (and need) every day.
Im a bit embarrased that I didn't figure this out in the beginning : [
happy that its working again : )

  • Story Button Acting Strangely

    Hello
I am making my umteenth recital DVD for the 2009 season, and I have encountered a problem that I cannot fathom or solve.
I have a master track with the entire recital and have created stories for each performance. I have a menu with 33 buttons, all of which work as designed, except one. This miscreant, when activated, puts the player into stop mode. If you hit the play button, the player starts over at the beginning of the disk. The target is set properly and all of my usual troubleshooting efforts have failed.
Any ideas what the gremlin is? Is there a limit to the number of buttons on a standard no frills menu?
    Thank you

By any chance when you simulate are you using your mouse? I just realized that if navigation was not set for the last two buttons, they would never be accessible on a DVD Player via the remote, so when you say they are not working, and if they are not highlighting, that could be it. (Actually thought of that after I wrote what follows, because I realized that this could be what you mean by not working. Take a look at the navigation and check by using the controller in Simulator and not the mouse.)
Now the part I did write before the part above:
You can delete PAR and items should be rebuilt, for instance if you have your m2vs in a folder called "M2VS" there will be PAR folder in there. Take a look in your destination preferences to see where the various items are being written, PAR and MPEG folders (unless those are actual folders you created and put things into) should be deleted. FWIW, as a matter of course, I never use either of those as names for folders.
    31 is strange, SD 4:3 is 36 buttons, 16:9 is 18 (12 with Pan & Scan/Letterbox), HD 4:3 48 and 16:9 24 (16 with P&S/Letterbox)
How are you making the menus, using a template or other item?
How are you burning the DVD? Sounds like something else may be going on. This is a SD DVD and not a HD DVD? Can you open up the VIDEO_TS folder in Apple DVD Player and does the project work properly, including all the buttons?

  • Firefox 4 middle mouse button click acts different from v3

clicking on the middle mouse button (not scrolling) acts like "open link in duplicated tab" rather than how it used to act like "open link in new tab".
It places the new tab at the bottom/end of the list of tabs rather than how it used to as a child of the tab in which the middle button was clicked.
Is there an option to change this behavior?

jscher2000: THANK YOU. The thread was doubly useful.
    1. I had the same problem to cor-el's post to "Set the pref browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to true on the about:config page" as orwel had: it will not be changed.
    2. I disabled my addons one by one and found that THE PROBLEM WAS with Duplicate This Tab 1.2 When it is disabled, the center mouse click works as it used to -- and I assume this means 'correctly'. Certainly it's the way I want it to work:-)
    3. I am new to this support path. If you think the information I just posted can help those on the thread you pointed to, and you are so inclined, please inform them about Duplicate This Tab 1.2 should anyone there be using it.

  • Mouse left button acting like right button

I have a MacBook black with snow Leopard. My mouse is acting up. On both the laptop and a usb mouse the left button is acting like athe write button by bringing up action boxes instead of just doing the deffault action. for example I go to the task bar and to open a program and the box "open/ options" open up. what's the solution?

Is the Control key stuck down? Try another keyboard.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad Compact USB Keyboard with Trackpoint: Middle mouse button and scrolling

    I got this keyboard (KU-1255).
Unfortunately, it generates bogus mouse button events if I click the middle mouse button and use the trackpoint:
With "thinkpad scrolling mode" disabled, the middle mouse button is released as soon as I move the trackpoint while still pressing the button!
Expected behaviour: The middle mouse button is pressed, the event created. Moving the trackpoint moves the cursor normally. Releasing the middle button creates a corresponding event.
With "thinkpad scrolling mode" enabled, the button is registered as pressed, then scrolling occurs as I move the trackpoint and the button is released if I release it.
Expected behaviour: No middle mouse button event is registered if I move the trackpoint. Pressing and releasing the middle mouse button is only registered if I click the button without moving the trackpoint.
When will there be a firmware update available for the keyboard, like for the SK-8855?
Since I am also using Linux, I would be really interested in fixing this in the firmware, not only getting a new Windows driver.

    Help please.

  • Map Thinkpad Mouse Buttons to Keyboard Key

    Peace all!
Does anyone know of a way to map the thinkpad mouse buttons to a normal keyboard key? I am unable to identify any mappable keycode using xev. Is it hardwired or something?
ButtonPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x4600001,
        root 0x115, subw 0x0, time 3353217, (155,11), root:(901,337),
        state 0x0, button 1, same_screen YES
ButtonRelease event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x4600001,

        state 0x100, button 1, same_screen YES
What I've managed to do is the opposite; map a keyboard key to a mouse button.
    http://www.geocities.jp/fred_b_maciel/kbd/kbd-e.html
Basically involves using the Accessibility X mouse controlling feature(usually using numpad keys); remapping those to other keys.
    Thanks in advance?

I presume I have to use this?
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Setkeycodes
The only way to detect a scancode is with,

fact, any time we press a key which has a scancode but no keycode, the kernel suggests us to use just 'setkeycodes' to
The problem is thinkpad's mouse buttons are already bound. Is there another way to find out?
The "Using HAL" website is broken.
Also, is there a way to determine if the keys are actually hardware bound? Some of the thinkpad's keys are eg. FN keys and maybe the mute/light keys. In that case, there's no point in continuing further.

  • Can I set my middle mouse button to pan?

Is it possible in Preferences to set my middle mouse button to temporarily become the "hand" tool so that I can pan?
I switch back and forth between InDesign CS3 and AutoCAD, and my middle mouse button is PAN in CAD. It drives me crazy to switch back and forth. I'd love it if I could make them the same.
I know that I can use the space bar, but I'm lazy and I've developed habits after using CAD exclusively for the last 3 years. I just started using IND again at my new job so this is the first time I've really had to switch between the two.

Check with mouse manufacturer. There is nothing in InDesign you can set
    for that.

  • Left mouse button does not act as an enter action

In some applications, I have noticed that clicking the left mouse button of the wireless mighty mouse (or the USB version) does not result in ENTER and I have to press the enter button on the keyboard. eg in ITunes, to cause a song to play, I have to hit the enter button. Is this the way it should work, or do I have a problem? Phil

    Hi Phil;
I just tested iTunes on my Mac. I was able to get a song to play by depressing the left mouse button twice.

  • [SOLVED] Thinkpad T510 - Intel Core i7 - Integrated Graphics

    Hi,
    i recent bought a ThinkPad T510 4349-2RG with an Intel Core i7 M 620 built-in. There is also an NVIDIA  NVS 3100.
According to the Intel-Homepage, my CPU should have an integrated GPU (http://www.intel.com/products/processor … ations.htm).
The NVIDIA card just works fine with the latest binary driver. But I would also like to use the integrated Intel GMA (Battery life) and/or bumblebee.
The problem is that the Intel GMA dont get recognized by the kernel, but its also not visible in BIOS (normally there should be an option to select between "Intel integrated" "discrete" and "Optimus" - i've updated to the latest BIOS version 1.44). I double-checked this with a live CD of Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (also only NVIDIA).
Is there any option to get this running?

    Sort of solved...
    NOTE!
While almost all new ThinkPads have integrated Intel HD Graphics, on those ThinkPads with a Descrete NVIDIA GPU, the Intel GPU is disabled and cannot be enabled. There is no support for Switchable Graphics.
    NOTE!
Contrary to the statement above, you can select the GPU in the BIOS of recent models with Nvidia Optimus, e.g. the T510 4384GEG. Windows seems to be able to switch between the GPUs, too.

I guess there is no way getting this to work, unless Lenovo unlocks this feature via BIOS-update.

  • Temperature Reading for Thinkpad T510 Usage

    Hi All,
I got a question regarding the standard / acceptable temperature operating range for the thinkpad t510 laptops. So my setup currently is my t510 is connected to an external monitor, external speakers, external keyboard and mouse. So it is essentially a desktop except using the innerds of the laptop as the "heart" of the system. My power manager has set the cpu to be adaptive. The temperature readings I am getting for the CPU and the Motherboard from downloading the program called Speccy from Piriform are at an average of 60 and 61 degrees C. I am wondering if that is within normal operating temperature for the laptop and if it is acceptable. Or is this temperature not ok and the reason why it is so high is that I am using the externals. Also, I am not even using heavy load work for the laptop besides for web browsing and listening to music and working on documents / spread sheet so basically office work.
And lastly, would the temperature problem be solved if in the future I would to get a w530 laptop since those laptops are more "powerful"?? Or is that wrong and the temperature is normal.
    Thanks in advance for answers
    Solved!

Is it because of the confined space or is it because the cpu is i7??
Either or both, It also depends on what you're doing with the T510. If the CPU is running hard that will definitely raise the temperature compared to idle/light load.
Make sure the fan air exhaust (and intake if the T510 has one) grilles aren't obstructed. Leave a few inches to let air circulate.
    Also consider:
    1. Place plastic or wood spacers below the unit to raise it an inch or so above the desktop.
    2. Use a USB-powered notebook fan base/pad to circulate air beneath the unit.
Neither will make a huge improvement but they'll both help.

  • How do i disable mouse button 4 and 5 to open new tabs or windows?

Okay so I got myself a new mouse, its a logitech G700s mouse but I don't think that matters anyway.
The problem is that the extra buttons on the mouse (small buttons on the side) i have are assigned as "mouse button 4" and "mouse button 5". Now to a standart mac system these buttons are assigned to open a new window or a new tab in safari but when I customly set these buttons to something else it does both of those things. For example i sat the mouse button 5 to mission control (show all windows) but now if I am using safari it also opens something in a new page if I am holding the cursor on a link.
I just want to know how I can remove that function. To make the mouse button 5 and 4 do nothing.
The system I use to customise the mouse buttons are a separate program. I need to know how to disable this new page function in the mac software.
    Sincerly Thomas.

  • Auto-scoll (middle mouse button) gone/not working in Firefox 20/Windows 7 64-bit?

    duplicate of [/questions/956896]
I recently upgraded both my work PC and my home PC to Firefox 20.0.1. My work PC (Win XP 32-bit) works fine, but my home PC (Win 7 64-bit) no longer allows me to auto-scroll when I click the middle mouse button (it does nothing). I have tried restarting Firefox with all addons disabled, as well as a totally fresh install, but haven't had any luck. To clarify, the mouse wheel itself still works as it should, it's just clicking it in to auto-scroll that's the problem.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    ##EDIT##
    Please delete this (double post)

    Did you check the setting?
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General: Browsing: "Use autoscrolling"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
