Thinkpad T60 Error Message - Diskeeper Lite

I have a 2 year old Thinkpad T60 (1953-D6U) running Windows XP Pro SP3.  Recently, I have seen an error message when starting Diskeeper Lite, which came bundled with my computer.
MMC has detected an error in a snap-in.  It is recommended that you shut down and restart MMC.
* Report this error to Microsoft, and then shut down MMC
* Continue running and ignore errors with this snap-in for the rest of the session
* Continue running and always ignore errors with this snap-in, regardless of users or session.
Does Lenovo offer an upgrade to Diskeeper Lite or know how to eliminate this problem?
Thanks,
Mike

Hello ...
Usually the installable setup file is located at c:\swtools\apps\dkeeper...
Unless you have formated your hd and don't have a backup you should be able to find it.
Best regards,

  • T60 Error message

I am getting an error message when I boot up.  It says:
    <windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
I had a virus on the computer.  No virus protection could get rid of it, so i tried to do a rescue and recover.  When the computer restarted this message showed up when rebooting.
    Any ideas?

Did you try replacing the file via the Windows XP recovery console [with a XP installation disk]?
Go down to the section titled "HAL.DLL is Missing - Updated by MVP Alex Nichol". It gives you all the steps on replacing hal.dll.

I have a Thinkpad T60 notebook computer running Windows XP Pro + Service Pack 3.
My computer came with a (free) copy of Diskeeper Lite, which worked well for defragmenting the hard drive.
Does anyone know where I can get another copy of Diskeeper Lite? I need to re-install the application.
    Thanks,

  • T60 R and R error messages layout.bin setup.bin setup.ini and setup.dll corrupted

I have a T60 that I was only able to use for a couple of days after purchase on EBAY in the fall of '08.  Ordered recovery disks in spring of '10.  Just now getting to use them.
The recovery did not work.  BIOS shows 60 gig hard drive as 4.5 gig.  Had hard drive reformatted at repair shop, where we discovered that the HD had 3 partitions, one 50 gig partitution unformatted.
After reformat,  loaded R and R from CDs then rebooted to hard drive and loaded all 6 recovery CD's as per instructions.  Last disk (6 of 6) popped up error messages that \SWWORK\4GEOXCA1\LAYOUT.BIN is corrupt or unreadable, Run CHKDSK.
Then a message that said:  Unable to save all data for the file \Device\HarddiskVoume3\SWWORK\4GEOXCA1\LAYOUT.BIN Failure of hardware or net connection.
Following that corrupt file messages, like the first one above, for SETUP.INI, SETUP.EXE and SETUP.DLL came up.
The computer will not boot to windows, just sits there with a blank screen after the boot message.  I can boot to the R and R program by hitting the Thinkvantage (blue) button.
Can I download uncorrupted versions of these files?  Is there a way to check the integrity of the files on the recovery CD (some sort of cabinet type file, IIRC an MIS extension)?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello,
Given the age of the computer, and the facts that you are not the original owner and it is having disk errors, you may also wish to test the hard disk drive inside it using the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics software.

  • Archlinux hanging on Thinkpad T60

    Hi,
I recently installed archlinux on my thinkpad T60. It has hung twice during the last two days! The screen freezes, and the machine does not respond to any keys. My only option is to reboot.
I have been using linux on this laptop for almost a year (mainly Ubuntu), and it never crashed. This means that there is a misconfiguration with archlinux, but I do not know how to find that out. I looked through the output of dmesg (after a fresh boot) and the only error message there is
ACPI: Error installing bay notify handler
I do not think that this can cause my laptop to hang, so something else is the culprit. Both times when it hung, I had Gnome, Opera, evince, terminal (alpine + tex + vim in the terminal) running.
Any suggestions on how to debug this?
    Thanks,
    Aditya

The laptop is still hanging once every two days
The ACPI error got away when I removed bay from the modules array in rc.conf. I have also noticed a pattern in the hanging. Usually, the laptop hangs within half an hour of waking up from suspend. I am using pm-suspend from pm-utils to suspend. Is there any way to find out what happened before a reboot? Or how should I go about trying to debug this?
    Thanks,
    Aditya

  • Client security solution TPM error message

I'm running XP on my T61 thinkpad and recently I started getting the following error message upon starting my computer:
"There was a problem connecting to the TPM (security device) on this computer. It is possible that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection. A missing or disabled device driver could also cause this problem. Please refer to the online documentation for more information."
My thinkpad has also been starting to blue screen lately but I'm not sure if this is connected to the client security solution problem or not. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!

  • Trouble setting up X with FreeBSD 7.1 on my Thinkpad T60 1951-FCG

    Hi!
I'm having some trouble setting up X on my Thinkpad T60 1951-FCG running FreeBSD 7.1. When I run whatever config, either the one I get from X -configure or one edited after my settings, all I get is a black screen. The screen is a tad bit lighter than when my laptop is powered off though. This effectivly locks my laptop up -- the only way I can get out of the "black screen of death" is to SSH in and kill the process, which then turns my monitor into this: http://folk.ntnu.no/sigurdhj/laptop_fail.jpg. The only way I can get back to a normal screen is by rebooting. If I try to start X through SSH, I get prompted with the message: Failed to load DMI info, X60 TV quirk not applied.
I've given the 'vesa' driver a go aswell, with that I can get a picture at least, but still loads of error messages. My monitor works perfectly with Windows XP, Ubuntu, and PC-BSD -- which leads me to believe that my monitor is fine, and that it's just a matter of configuring it right.
After the read of 'man intel' I'm thinking it could be something with the setting LVDSFixedMode, but the information about that was just too advanced for me to make anything of. I've included my xorg.conf.new file aswell as the Xorg.0.log file.
Hope there is someone out there bored enough to help me sort this out.

If you check the info on the AirPort Utility 5.6.1 download page, this application is for Leopard and Snow Leopard....10.5.7 to 10.6.8
It will not run on Lion
Instead, you need to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

  • 1802 Error Message on installation of Broadcom Mini-PCI Wireless Card

I am getting an 1802 error message on boot when I install the Broadcom Mini-PCI wireless card. I know it has something to do with some code IBM put into the BIOS or CMOS to check the cards for manufacturer or something like that. Is there anyway around this message or do I have to try and find an IBM mini-PCI wireless card for this machine?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

All depends on how one defines success...
To put it this way: A3x machines are very unpredictable and moody when it comes to these issues, and you're talking to someone who has owned over a hundred A31p ThinkPads, not counting A30/p and A31 units along the way. More than once I've faced a scenario where the card that worked "out of the box" in one machine required a hack in the next one...
    But to answer your question:
    Can it be done? Absolutely.
Do I recommend it? Absolutely not.
IBM-issued (with a proper FRU number) Intel 2200BG should work in your machine with no hack. Some people have reported this experience even with generic card of the same type.
    Hope this helps.

    George

  • Keep getting error message: Windows installer is not correctly installed

    Hello all..
After trying to install some software or getting the thinkvantage update I keep getting this error message.
"The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
So I've restarted and made sure I was in normal mode. Didn't help.  Does anyone have any idea before I put this thing into the shop?? LOL
    Thanks!

  • Reinstalled new cmos battery,not error message,code 0176 and 1271

can anyone help me,i installed a new cmos battery and now the IBM thinkpad T42 is coming up with two error messages,
i've looked at what they are , 1 is for time and the other is a security message saying the system has been tampered with,
it ask's for a password, but there wasn't a password installed, so how do i get over this problem?
    can someone please help.

Changing the CMOS battery will trigger the Supervisor password if one was set, and it may have been set by a previous owner years ago...
Having said that, password cracking techniques are NOT allowed to be discussed on this forum...
    Good luck.
