Thinkpad T61p is incompatible to Windows 7 x64

Dear Lenovo Support, i never had that kind of crap with any other thinkpad i bought. Today i tried to update my Thinkpad T61p (6457-7XG) to Windows 7 x64 which is already long enough on the market to update all drivers from your site. Remember: It has a very long beta and RC phase. Long enough to check everything is working without extra work for the user.
Things are crap:
1)Lack of Win7 drivers for the integrated sd-card reader.. The driver from the Homepage installs. Everything is ok in the Hardware Manager. If i plug in my card, nothing is happens. (my card is 100% ok). At this point i need to search and tryout to get this thing working.
2)Lack of working bluetooth software. The support homepage offers v6.1.0.5100 which is definitive not working with Windows 7 x64. At this point this is not an up to date driver because the newest software is 6.2.0.9600 and is working with windows 7. If i try to download it from broadcom the setup software cancels because lenovo devices are not supported. So i need to do a workaround by myself because you are not able to fix it by time.
3)If i plug out my ethernet cable the lenovo software tries to switch to wlan. sometimes it starts to hang and my mouse is moving by 1-2fps... same problem occurs if i deactivate my wireless device by default so it cannot switch. This bug is representable at any time. There is no possibility to save anything after it starts to hang. I need to press the power button until the system powers off.
I also never had some high frequent beep noise in hard disk access mode until i bought the T61p.
If i sum all things i am realy unhappy with this product. My warranty expires in 286 days and i will need a new notebook. So tell me a reason why i should by a new lenovo notebook which would be less supported with actual os versions? Will i have the same problems by updating a new lenovo product to windows 8?
I am also wondering now why i bought a expensive lenovo product if i could buy a product with the same quality for 1000$ cheaper.. so where is this money at? It is definitive not the same quality as ibm provided it with the old thinkpads up to T60. The Thinkpad T61p is not as old to stop the driver support for new os because a lot of people still using it with a extended warranty in a productive enviroment. In this case its better to use win 7 then vista.
Thinkpad T61p (6457-7XG)

The company i work for got several T61 and T61p running Windows 7 x64 without any such issues. I'm not sure if you got a hardware problem or software problem, but you say that you tried to update to Windows 7. Does it mean you performed a upgrade from Vista or a clean install of Windows 7? I always suggest a clean install since i had several issues with OS upgrades in the past. So if you did a upgrade you might have some issues because of that. In that case i would suggest a clean install of Windows 7. If the problems are caused because of a OS upgrade you cannot blame Lenovo. This could be a problem for any computer whatever Brand. There is also some BIOS updates that contains some Windows 7 fixes, did you update your BIOS before the installation or did you check that you already had a pretty new BIOS version that is supposed to work fine with Windows 7?
This is not a general problem for all T61/T61p models so it got nothing to do with low quality of the Lenovo models. There is no way you can get a computer with similar quality/spec that cost $1000 less. In that case it's either not the same quality or not the same spec. Windows 7 is supported on T61/T61p and there are drivers available that work fine. I never did a upgrade to Windows 7 and always performed a clean install. I read that several others performed a upgrade without these kind of problems though.

  • ThinkPad W530 with Windows 8 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector

Nine, that only covers Widows 7. Many people in this thread have reported the problem using Windows 8. Has that been addressed by Lenovo yet? Stability problems like this should NEVER be allowed to go so long without a resolution.
Edit Note : This thread was created base from the previous thread "ThinkPad W530 with Windows 7 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector. As we currently Cx reporting facing the same issue on Win8 I have seperated this thread in order not toconfuse other customer. For cutomers facing this issue please continue posting in this thread.

    Hi shan_mcarthur,
Thanks for posting. I read through this thread again and noticed that most of customers here do indeed have Windows 7 installed as what the title represented unless I'm mistaken or may have missed out are you or anyone else here facing the same issue on Windows 8. If that is the case I'll be more than happy to bring this up with the teams but it will have to be a new thread though as I'd like to keep the resolution separate based on the OS use just to not confuse other customer .
For those facing the same issue above on Win8, please do let me know so we can start a discussion around this.
    Do let me know.

  • Thinkpad T61p - Windows 10

Sussessfully installed Windows 10 Insider on my Thinkpad T61p - 6460-67u. Several items don't work in Device Manager and the T61p is NOT recognized on your site for support. Will there be drivers avaiable for this notebook after July 29th? Thanks.

    Hi RockyLane,
Most likely not.  Drivers are provided by the internal hardware manufacturers and if they don't support the hardware, then there will be no drivers for it.
As Windows 10 progresses through the various builds, MS has provided more drivers so windows update might come up with drivers for your machine.
With that said, there are some ways that you can get an older driver to install and give at least partial functionality.  You could disable driver signing and force install a driver from an older OS or install a driver in compatibility mode.
I have Windows 10 installed on an X200T and an X301 and was able to get some older drivers installed these ways.

  • 45K1610 Port Replicator and Thinkpad T510 cause Autodesk Inventor 2011 crashes in Windows 7 x64

The Lenovo 45K1610 Port Replicator driver, when installed, causes Autodesk Inventor 2011 to crash when opening files. It also crashes the Inventor crash reporting tool, with a logged crash in the nVidia driver. The latest drivers from Lenovo for both the nVidia driver and the Port Replicator do not fix the issue. Uninstalling the port replicator driver fixes the issue. This is on Windows 7 x64 Enterprise.

We are having the same problem on a Thinkpad Edge 15 0302, is there any updates?

  • Windows 2003 x64 on a X220?

Just wondering if anybody has tried to install Windows 2k3 x64 on a X220.
It's still my favorite OS of all time, and I'd love to have that option if at all possible.
I've never tried 2008 server, if the Win7 drivers cross over (like XPx64 and 2003x64) it might be something that's more likely to happen.

    Hello,
Unless you find Windows XP 64 Bit Edition device drivers for the X220, it is likely many of the ThinkPad specific features will not work, or only provide basic functionality.  You can always disable the Desktop Composition and Themes services to give the operating system a more Classic Windows feel.

  • Problems deploying Windows 7 x64 computers with more than 8GB RAM

    SCCM 2012 R2 CU1
    Windows 7 x64
We have a weird problem after upgrading from SP1 to R2 CU1. We have built a Windows 7 64 bit image with the latest updates (currently September 2014 updates). It deploys fine to all computers. But after some days – don’t know exactly – guess after 4-7 days
    - we start getting errors on computers with more than 8 GB of RAM. The errors just start out of the blue. We didn't change TS, image or driver package.
The error shows in 3 different ways – depending of the computer model.
    1) BSOD – STOP 0x000000F4. Disk error.
    2) Task Sequence error 0x87D00269 when installing the first Application in TS. The error seems to have something to do with Management Point not found.
    3) Task Sequence simply stops after installing CMclient. No errors - it simply stops.
For instance we get the BSOD on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p. But on the ThinkCentre M83 we get the TS error 0x87D00269. M93p and M83 uses the same driver package. They consequently  fail every time after the error has begun. If we reduce (remove physically)
the memory to max. 8GB of RAM, they successfully run the Task Sequence.  We get the above errors on both Lenovo and HP machines with more than 8GB.
I made a copy of the production TS and started testing. I created a new driver package for M93p/M83. It contains only the NIC drivers. Now M93p an M83 successfully finishes the TS. Adding sata or chipset or MEI/SOL drivers to the package I get the 0x87D00269
error on both m93p and M83. At least not the BSOD on the M93p ;-)
Tried setting  SMSTSMPListRequestTimeout to 180 in the TS. Also tried putting in a 5 minute break before installing the first Application in the TS. Also tried putting in SMSMP=mp1.mydomain in the installation properties for the CMclient. It is still
    the same problem.

    you have not previously used.
Hopefully this is a bug in translating the errorcodes? Just to be sure I checked all the SCCM serviceaccounts and none of them have expired passwords.  And again why only on computers with more than 8GB RAM.
Anyone else had problems rolling computers with more than 8GB og RAM?
Why does this happens after a few days? To begin with, it runs just perfect and then starts failing on all machines with more than 8GB. Without a change in TS, image and driverpackage. We have seen this pattern for the last 3 month after
updating our image with the latest Windows Updates. It all started after updating from SP1 to R2 CU1.
Why does it only affect machines with more than 8GB RAM?
How to get rid of the 0x87D00269 error?
Seems to be somehow related to driver installation mechanism in SCCM in combination with Windows 7 64 bit, +8GB RAM and SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 or perhaps just R2.
Any help or hints would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Anders

We have the same workaround, using a x64 boot image resolved all our issues with WinPE 5.0.
    Machines with >4GB of RAM
Lenovo ThinkPad T540p failed applying drivers with 80040005
    Black screen/white cursor issues intermittently
No updates from Microsoft, they are still looking through the logs, but we have updated our boot images and all is well now. Our case it still open with Microsoft, they are researching the logs.

  • Lenovo X131e doesn't work with Prolific PL2303 based USB to Serial Adapter and Windows 7 x64

This is sort of a bug report. A Lenovo X131e with Windows 7 x64 and the PL2303 driver including 1.6, 1.61 and 1.7 will not successfully install the driver - Windows always reports "Driver Install Failed" on plug in to USB 3 or USB2 ports. However, putting a USB2.0 hub inbetween the USB to Serial Adapter and either USB port type makes the adapter work fine. This was not the case with the X130e. I'm not sure where to report this beyond this posting, but more of an FYI.

If the USB can be used for other equipment,
That may be compatibility issues for USB and Prolific PL2303.
Don't plug Serial Adapter when installing the driver,
Ofter installation, Connect serial adapter to see whether it is working normally.

  • X200: CPU frequency scaling not working in Windows 7 x64

Hi there, this is first posting here. Trust this issue has not been addressed before--if it has please redirect me to the post where this discussion happening.
    Here is my hardware: X200, P8700, 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 7454-32U
I have just upgraded my RAM from 2GB and clean installed Windows 7 x64 (came with XP x86). I have also loaded all the drivers including the power manager driver and power manager from IBM/Lenovo support/download site. all hardware is working fine.
My only problem is that the fan is always on--running at about 3340RPM and blows all the time--temps are at around 42-46C. I have noticed that the CPU is quite, but firing at max all the time--does not scale down when no activity. tis happens when I select "power source optimized" on battery and on AC.
I have noticed that when in XP 32-bit, the CPU will come back at rest to 786MHz--and go up when needed.
Could someone please help me figure out what is goin gon here? I am so tired of looking and posting on other forums that I am about to go crazy. I love this machine, but my only issue now is this.
I have also checked the BIOS and set the CPU to "automatic" and Speed Step is on. I am using the latest BIOs version v3.11 Dec 2009.
    Please help me.
    Regards
    S

Hi Jessica Thank you for the reply and also pointing me to the Upgrade Advisor links-Here is the output for the 64-bit Windows 7 Compatibility assessment--as you see there are no issues with Hardware compatibility. Also I have downloaded all the applicable drivers from Lenovo. The problem still persists.
if you could link me with the direct access to the power management related drivers from lenovo, ACPI and BIOS drivers I will appreciate a great deal. Also to mention, I have upgraded the BIOS Feb 2010 release, and also the Power manager driver to v3.12 (no fixes in fan speed and CPU freq scaling I am afraid.)

  • Windows 7 x64 on T500 (ger)

    Hi,
since yesterday I'm installing and configuring windows 7 x64 german at my Lenovo T500. After fresh install it seems to miss not soo many device drivers - so I installed the bunch of Lenovos windows 7 beta program. The following I don't get to run at the moment:
+ ATI/INTEL SWITCHING GRAPHICS (perhaps missing special win7 driver)
      - 1st I installed with switchable graphics and os detection on at BIOS, windows 7 recognized only Intel
      - 2nd I installed vista ATI switchable driver, and got swicht GPU at power manager menu
      - device manager shows aTI only for a few seconts after trying to swicht GPU
      - 3rd I decided to set BIOS to use ATI only fpr the moment
+ OSD inside hotkey package (win7 beta but freezes my system starting tponscr.exe, hard to find if you can't login)
    + FINGERPRINT
      - 1st I tried windows 7 built in, but no scan results reached the system
      - 2nd I saw an driver update using microsoft update, but nothing changes
      - 3rd I installe Lenovos windows 7 beta driver; after starting and enter password I have to wait several seconds to be able to press send; afterwards it seems there is also no communication between soft- and hardware
      - 4th I tried authen's windows 7 beta; same as windows 7 own driver
      - last I deinstalled Lenovos beta because it costs about 10s at booting (I'm using ssd and so its terrible)
    + CAMERA
      - I installed Lenovos driver for vista; at device manager there is the camera, at scanner and cameras I can't see
      - how to test camera functionality?
+ HSDPA MODEM / ACCESS CONNECTIONS
      - After installing Lenovos windows7 beta shown at devide manager ...
      - but how to connect; access connections comes without the second and third tab I used to see there
      - using GPS its possible to unlock SIM
Perhaps somebody can give/complete some installation hints to get the one or other to work now. I only wrote about the seen problems, thinks like power manager seems to work perfectly, thinks like easy eject or presentatin director were no more useful because of built in windows functions.
    best regards
      Ronny

Ronny, I felt I should at least let you know there are others out there trying the same. I have experience with both Vista x64 and Win7 x64 on my T500.
As far as video is concerned, my findings are in line with yours. Switchable Graphics are completely non-functional, I was able to enable discrete, but performance was poor.
    On-screen Display is completely non-functional
If you're using HSDPA forget Access Connections. It's been crap since it was first ever created and it is still crap today. I say this as a user of Thinkpads for over a decade now. On any platform it has always consistently hung on connection. Use Sony Ericcson's Wireless Manager, it works perfectly and has radio enable / disable features built right in:
Direct Link to Wireless Manager 5 for Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Network Adapter
I think that's all I have for now. The rest of everything seems to be working. Oh, I also tried the graphics switching with and without the Thinkpad Power Manager installed.

  • Bootcamp WIndows 7 x64 and Syncmaster 204b external monitor

    Hi,
I didn't see a sub-forum for external monitors so I hope the Firmware forum is ok since this seems like a drivers/graphics card issue issue.
The issue I'm having is that Mac OS crashes randomly when I connect my external Samsung Syncmaster 204b monitor to my Macbook Pro when running Windows 7 x64 under Bootcamp. The external monitor turns yellow and the Macbook LCD turns gray and I'm forced to do a hard-reboot. Windows does detect the monitor and I can see it with it's correct name under Windows Display Properties.
Everything works fine when I run the monitor under Mac OS 10.6.4.
I'm running Windows 7 x64 on a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 13". I have all of the latest updates installed for Windows and am using Bootcamp 3.1.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any ideas how this may be resolved?
    Thanks, -Scott

Ok, I think this problem has been resolved, so I'll post the solution in case others with the Samsung Syncmaster 204B have the same problem. The answer was erasing the PRAM by holding Option-Command-P-R at boot up (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379).
This is what I think happened:
An update in Windows Update is available for the Syncmaster 204B, but wasn't visible when I first connected the Syncmaster. I wasn't able to see the update until I rebooted with the Syncmaster connected (after several crashes). After seeing the update in Windows Update under 'Optional Updates", called "Samsung - Display- 204T/204Ts/204B, Syncmaster Magic CX20Ts(digital)", I installed it, but bootcamp Windows continued to crash randomly after attaching the Syncmaster via both Mini Display Port-to-DVI and Mini Display Port-to-VGA. Sometimes it crashed after a few minutes, sometimes an hour, the same as before I installed the update.
I was convinced that it was a compatibility problem between Windows 7 x64, the Syncmaster 204B and the MacBook Pro 13" Mid-2010 hardware since this problem only happened when booting into bootcamp Windows 7 x64 (everything worked fine in Mac OS), but now that doesn't seem to be the case. I think the update fixed the problem, but after installing the update some of the of the original incompatible display settings remained resident in the Mac's PRAM. Erasing the PRAM cleared these settings and allowed the new updated settings to be loaded instead, fixing the crash issue.

  • USB727 Windows 7 x64 Blue Screen of Death BSOD

    Hi,
Every time I use my Verizon USB727 on Windows 7 x64, after removing, when I try and suspend (sleep) my laptop I get a BSOD. I have a Lenovo T500. I am running in NDIS mode.
This worked great under Vista x32.
If I shutdown my laptop before removing the adapter all is well, however I'd like to put it to sleep as I often travel from place to place and I like to resume my work where I left off. The issue seems to be Windows can't put the device into a sleep state and unload/suspend the Novetel drivers. Without using the USB727, I have no issues. The suspend will hang trying to suspend. Sometimes it will go back to locked screen. After 5-20 minutes the BSOD occurs and the laptop reboots itself.
Windows x64 Enterprise Edition -- all latest MS updates applied as of 12/18/2010
    VZaccess Manager v7.2.1.2 (2420b)
I have called support and all they can tell me is, there are no reported problems and I have the latest drivers.

    Hello Suzerain,
First of all, upgrade BIOS to the latest version, remove all unnecessary hardware devices from the computer and try entering Windows safe mode to test whether it is a third-party software/hardware compatibility issue. If so, please download and run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check the reason for the issue. If the issue is caused by some incompatible driver, you might go to Device Manager, right click your hardware device in the list and select Update Driver Software; then click Search automatically for updated driver software.
If you still get the BSOD error after installing the latest driver, please understand that Windows system uses separated user mode and kernel mode memory space, stop errors are always caused by kernel portion components, such as a hardware device, third-party drivers, backup software or anti-virus services (buggy services).
The system goes to a blue screen because there is some exceptions happened in the kernel (either the device driver errors or the service errors), and Windows implements this mechanism: When it detects some errors occur in the kernel, it will kill the box in case some more severe damage happens. Then we get a blue screen or the system reboots (it depends on what the system settings are).
To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. A suggestion would be to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for regional support phone numbers.
I hope the problem will be resolved soon. Thanks!

  • Skype Performance Bug under Windows 8 x64 / endles...

    Dear Developers,
please get rid of an annoying bug under Windows 8 x64 - this bug exists since several versions and still not fixed.
    Summary:
After a while - maybe associated with energy saving options - a thread in Skype is getting more and more CPU time, causes by a thread always starts with ntdll!RtlGetCurrentPeb+0xf (see att.) <- what does this thread actually?
    Results:
Heavy CPU usage, slowly Skype response - missing Messages. Only Skype restarts helps.
I will do more investigation if needed. Let me know.
    Update:
    The thread uninterruptedly reads from
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Render\*
Appears to a not catched endless loop?

My Thinkpad originally came with Windows 7 Pro, but I have changed to Windows 8 in order to resolve problems with VSS.  OOB, both Windows 7 and Windows 8 gave me a "Desktop graphics performance" rating of 5.7.  Under Windows 7, upgrading to the latest Lenovo driver improved this to 6.1, leaving my HDD (at 5.9) as the limiting factor in performance.  Under Windows 8, however, replacing the Windows driver with the latest Lenovo driver has reduced "Desktop graphics performance" to 5.6!  What gives?
P.S. I just discovered a Power Options advanced power setting "Intel Graphics Power Plan", which was set to "Maximum Battery Life" for both battery and plugged in.  I changed it to "Maximum Performance" when plugged in, but the Windows experience Index (WEI) for "Desktop graphics performance" remains a mer 5.8.
After you changed the setting to "Maximum Performance" , did you run the WEI test again?

  • Bootcamp windows 7 x64 Ethernet controller error...

I've installed the Windows 7 x64 drivers, yes I'm aware of how to get around the x64 error. However after installing My internet doesn't work.
Theres a few drivers with error code 28, saying they aren't installed next to them; ethernet controller, network controller. I've ran the repair utility, and it still doesn't install the files.
    Any suggestions?
