ThinkPad Twist with USB3 dock display problem

I have a ThinkPad Twist running Windows 8 driving a single external display through a Lenovo USB3 dock. When I extend my screen across both displays or if I close the laptop and just use the external display, then the display periodically goes black and then recovers. If I duplicate the laptop screen onto the external monitor all is good.
Sometimes this is caused by UAC and other password requests. In that case the screen stays black until I respond to the pop-up on the laptop screen. I understand that this is a security feature. Other times it seems to happen spontaneously. Several times I have sat and watched the external display go black for a few seconds then recover several times a minute without any user activity. I don't think that's related to a security feature.
I also have a Lenovo X1 Carbon running Windows 8. When using it with the same USB3 dock I have never experienced this issue.

I was in the same scenario, my company bought a Twist for testing but we want Windows 7 because we can't train everyone on using Windows 8.
I finally found a project on SourceForge that seems to be working great.
http://yeokhengmeng.com/2013/01/auto-rotate-screen
I had to install the ThinkVantage Active Protection System before the program would function.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014892
It's a simple install, you calibrate the different rotations of the laptop, read the README it will tell you how to get going, it takes 5 minutes.
I added it as a startup item for all users but I had to follow these instructions to get rid of a security prompt.

I've been testing it and it's almost better than using the built-in button because it's automatic.

  • Thinkpad Twist s230U no internal display, works on HDMI and mini display port

    Hi,
My Thinkpad Twist does not display anything when turned on except on external monitors. The Device manager shows a greyed out internal display icon, says it is not connected.
    1. Could this be the power connect ribbon cable p/n DC002C003W00 have a fractured wire(s)? I have tested for open circuit between PWR1 and PWR2 connectors and there are 4 sequential pins which are open circuit. Is this normal?
    2. The touch screen works
    3. There appears to be absolutely no LED backlighting working
    4. Is there a possible fix for this and if so is it the power cables or some physical problem with the ribbon cables OR is it definitely a new display that is needed using existing cables?
    Thanks in advance
    Andrew

The last 4 pins on the connector are unused I have determined so it is not the power ribbon cable connector.
I found two wires fractured in the LCD ribbon cable right at the point where it feeds through the twist mount. I expect this could be a common problem after use. After repairing these two wires it did not fix the screen problem. I have ordered a replacement LDVS ribbon cable and will report back once I have replaced that.

  • Thinkpad Twist with Windows 7 - screen rotation

So a client of mine bought the Twist with Windows 8 on it and really did not like windows 8 and asked me to repalce the install with Windows 7, wiping out the drives .... I managed to get all but 2 devices identified and install, one has an ID of PNP0C40 which is related to a button and the other one PNP0C60 is related to a convertable laptop display sensor.
The PNP0C60 is likely related to my problem, no screen rotation.
Is there a driver for this sensor that might work with Windows 7?
If the answer is, we do not support windows 7, could someone reccomend a forum where folks are trying to downgrade the Twist to 7? my searches come up with mostly amazon reviews.
Thanks, if anyone needs help with any of the other drivers for Win 7 on the Twist ... I'd love to help

  • MMS with SMIL part Display problems

Hi, A freind of me has just bought a new Nokia 6700 Classic
The problem is when he recieve an MMS with the SMIL presentation File, he has "can't display the SMIL part" !!!
Do you have any idea about this problem ?
    Txs

Just an FYI / update to this unresolved issue. I tried re-scanning the pictures and the new scans behave normally. I think what happened was that I rotated the pictures to make them upright when examining the 'event' as a whole; then somehow the program lost the rotation information (though I don't remember a crash I did have a couple during the long process); so when I tried to go from thumbnail to full size to edit that information was gone and somehow defaulted to 'blank'. That's my best guess, anyway as the issue was resolved by re-scanning.

  • Can anyone help me with a little display problem in IE7 please?....

I have just uploaded a new site which has been created using Dreamweaver CS4 for Windows.  There is no problem viewing the site in IE 8, or in Firefox.
The site is basically a gallery of images.  For some of the main images I've used little magnifying glass 'plus' symbols, which are simply linked rollover png images that take you to a larger version of the image.  In IE7 (and I presume in older versions too) these little symbols aren't displaying in the correct position on each of these pages, they've jumped and are incorrectly displaying over the top, left corner of the main image.
    Here's the link:
    www.sjcillustration.com
Firstly, why is this happening in IE7 and yet all's fine in IE8 or in Firefox, and secondly, can anyone tell me how to fix it please?
(I was going to attach the corresponding CSS file but don't see an attach file button.......)
    Cheers!

Hi Cristian, thanks for responding so speedily!
On the homepage, click on the 'diagrammatic' thumbnail for example, then click on the 'volcano' thumbnail, when the volcano page appears, you should see the little magnifying glass plus rollover image under the main image to the right.   As I said, on these specific pages, in IE 7 the symbol jumps to the top left of the main image.
For your info, I have seen this problem on my older XP pc, which runs IE 7.  All is fine on my newer Vista pc, which is using IE8 & Firefox.

  • Retention of applications initially installed with other ID & Display problem on yahoo

    Hi all.
    1. How do one retain applications installed through other ID's on the Ipadwithout Itunes asking to replace them?
    2. Some messages received on Yahoo are not being displayed, what is the remedy for this?
    Thank you all

    hi,
    1) i would say you can just put differen't ID's into the ipad etc and download or use them in that and then change them back to anther ID. the only problem would then be getting them to your computer or icloud on anthere ID. apple has made it so that you have one ID and you can then have them all on your devises. They don't want you useing more then one ID as they can't see if you are just trying to take one of your friends app's music etc. as this would brake the copyright on them apple can not let this happen cos of this.
    2) if you mean in mail when it say this message can't be displayed it means that your ipad has not downloaded the email yet try the bottem left and refresh it, if these doesn't work then i would go back to the main mail screen and try it then or just wait for it to download.

  • Cannot upgrade to win 8 pro on thinkpad twist

I just bought a thinkpad twist with windows 8 and seperately purchased windows 8 pro pack. However the pro install gets to 15% and then fails. People with the lenovo yoga 11 and yoga 13 are having same issue. Microsoft support has not been able to come up with a soluion. Anyone here with similar issue? Any solutions?
    Solved!

I got it to install with help from MS support. Here are the steps:
    1. Search for "msconfig" and start the app.
    2. Under the general tab select "diagnostic startup".
    3. click OK.
    4. Restart machine once.
    5. After restart. Initiate windows upgrade.
    6. After successful upgrade, return to msconfig and reset setting to "normal startup".

  • Imac display problem, the resolution seems to be unusual, top bar and all folders on the desktop background is off the screen

Need help with 21" imac display problem. The resolution seems to be unsual, everything on the desktop background goes off the screen. The resolution is set at 1920 x 1080

Quit the game and restart the iPad.
To quit the game - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't work try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock network port has problems with our Cisco 6509 switch

We purchased a ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock for and X1 carbon and the main issue we are having is the network port does not seem to work with our Cisco 6509 switch. I tried updating the firmware on the dock but it still hasn't fixed the issue. I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem with any other networks out there.

I'm seeing the same issue with a ThinkPad W520.  When I connect my ethernet cable directly to the laptop, my internet speeds are on par with my service provider of 18 Mbps.  When I move that cable to the dock, I will only see 1.5 Mbps.  I have two displays attached to the dock and I'm running Windows 7.  I've updated the dock firmware and have installed the latest system drivers.  Is there anything else to try?

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock - Prevents ThinkPad Twist (S230) from booting (Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit)

Hi, I upgraded to Win 8.1 tonight and found the ThinkPad Twist wouldn't boot at all when the USB 3 dock was plugged in. When it tried to reboot I just get a permanent blank screen. When I power down and do a cold boot, I get the ThinkPad welcome screen but no boot options line prompt below it and it gets stuck on the ThinkPad logo. The only way I can get it to boot is to unplug the ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock USB cable from the machine then dreboot from cold again. It's a bit annoying and definitely didn't behave like this under Win 8.0 RTM just a few hours ago.
I also found the dock-attached external displays wouldn't work under Win 8.1, but updating the Dock firmware and the  DisplayPort firmware as mentioned in another discussion board fixed that prob at least.  But I still can't boot or reboot with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock attached...  Help would be appreciated.
    TIA...

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the help. None of that fixed the problem, so I've run the tool and sent the results to DisplayLink support as you asked, with a link back to this thread. For your reference I have a Lenovo Service Request Number: 8001961163 on this problem. ( I mention this so we don't duplicate efforts).
Here's part of what I said to DisplayLink Support:
"I have all the latest drivers and updated the UEFI from Lenovo a couple of weeks ago. I restored a Windows 8.0 clone to see if the problem was present at that level, but I had the same problem, so I put Win 8.1 back. It used to work fine up until a week ago when I updated to Win 8.1, but as I said, I regressed to a Win 8.0 image and it persists there now, too.
The problem is when I restart Windows with the Dock connected, it’ll shut down normally then not reboot – it gets stuck on the Lenovo screen that asks to press Enter for the UEFI config. Same happens if I cold-boot it from power-off. Unplugging the USB3 cable and cold booting is the only way to get the PC going again.
Files attached show screen  shots of my troubleshooting progress. There was originally a “Mirage Driver” that the compatibility reporter was complaining about, so I removed that but still had the same problem after rebooting.
Personally, I think it’s a hardware or UEFI problem, as the problem happens before anything of Windows gets loaded at boot time."
    Best regards,
    Paul

  • Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock\Twist Internet Explorer Issue

    Hi
I am racking my brains at this one!
I work at a school where we have recently acquired 60 odd Thinkpad Twists. In the classrooms we have Thinkpad USB 3.0 docks connected to SmartBoards. The issue we have is a very odd one - when we connect the dock to the laptop via USB, then open Internet Explorer (10), we are presented with a white blank page - with for example at google.com as the home page. The Google search field and icon can be found further down the page. As soon as we remove the USB cable Internet Explorer works as it should i.e. no problem.
Google Chrome does not have this problem, nor Firefox.
We are running Windows 8 64 bit.
    Have tried the following:
    - updating the USB dock software from Lenovo's site.
    - installing the displaylink driver from displaylink.com.
    - running IE without add-ons i.e. iexplore -extoff.
    - Have seen a forum where someone suggests disabling HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections and Disabling/Enabling Enhanced Protected Mode in Internet Explorer Advanced settings.
    - resetting Internet Explorer.
    All to no avail.
Help would be much appreciated. Not a criticial problem, but a very irritating one for our users!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Problem solved! It was the Smartboard drivers - just downloaded the latest from their website. All appears in proper working order now!

  • X1 Carbon / ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock: Issues with connecting with more than one Dock

    Hello fellow users / Lenovo,
In our office we have several X1 Carbons and several ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks (0A33970) located all over the office. We typically bring our X1 Carbons around and use each other's Dock during the course of work.
However, we recently face a problem with the Ethernet interface not working with other Docks, other than the Dock that the driver was installed with.
Using other Docks, the Ethernet interface comes up as a generic Ethernet device with a yellow warning triangle inside Control Panel.
Using the Dock that the driver was installed with, the Ethernet device works as normal.
It should be pretty easy to replicate this behaviour, just get an X1 Carbon (fresh, Windows 8.1) and connect a USB 3.0 Dock to it, and install appropriate drivers.Verify that the Ethernet port works correctly.
Next, disconnect the Dock and connect another Dock to the X1 Carbon. Observe that the Ethernet interface does not work, and see the yellow warning triangle icon under Control Panel.
Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drivers with the new Dock doesn't work either. Only the Dock that the driver was originally installed with will work.

Would love an official response to this.
