Thinkpad W500 4058-CTO Ericsson F3507g gone

Ericsson F3507g WWAN modem disappeared after some time (about one day) from the device list. Since every attempt to restore it failed (UBUNTU etc).
Please, note that after installation WWAN was working OK and connection with a provider was fine.

curious to know, when the Ericsson card was working; was your unit running on Win 7 Pro ?

  • W500 4058-CTO 17" Replacement Motherboard Compatiability

My 2009 W500 4058-CTO 17" has a motherboard issue and I just do not want to get a new laptop at this time.
    1) What is the fastest motherboard/processor that I can install in this unit without plug issues?
    2) What is the fastest motherboard/processor that I can install in this unit if I purchase new plastic frames for the side to account for different plus positions, if this is even an option?
Thanks in Advance for any input.

Your machine is a 15.4" unit, not a 17" one.
You'll have to stick with a W500 motherboard,  they are all the same.
T9900 was the fastest CPU offered by Lenovo, although X9100 should work as well.

  • W500 4058-CTO / 4063-A74 Windows 7 RTM Video Driver Failures

Windows 7 RTM, (yes RTM, not RC or Beta) on either model of the W500 show ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 if you have your BIOS set properly.
On the 4063 the driver runs fine, no issues that I can detect.  On the 4058 it crashes constantly when browsing websites in IE 8.0.  When it fails, it hangs the machine UI for a short period of time, then blacks out, then returns to normal with a message that the driver failed and recovered.  Fortunately no BSOD or loss of work, but a major annoyance.

Not a good start here for the 4058-CTO and Windows 7 with the ATI FireGL 5700...anyone else see this behavior yet?

I'm experiencing the same thing on my 4058-CTO with Win 7 RTM. The strange thing is that it only happens when I'm browsing and using the laptop screen. When at work using an external DVI monitor I have not had this problem happen even once. Unfortunately it is not specific to Lenovo or ATI. Do an internet search on this error "Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered." and you will be amazed how many other people are having this same issue, and it's been going on for years now. It seems to have started with Vista.
It's quite frustrating, but I'm not really expecting a fix anytime soon after doing some research.

  • Thinkpad W500 4058 Freezes during post

I have a Thinkpad W500 type 4058 that freezes on the Thinkpad post screen during startup. It stays frozen indefinitely no matter what I do. I have tried pressing F1 F2 F9 F12 Delete and the Thinkvantage button on startup with no results. I have also tried starting it up plugged into the wall with no battery inserted and I even tried resetting it by removing the CMOS battery, the main battery and pressing the power button. I would just send it in for repairs but this problem started 3 days after my warranty ran out. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ihad the same problem just crop up. I was driving cross country this last weekend with my son - Idaho to Virginia - and we were using my W500 with a Garmin GPS18 gps device and MS Streets & Trips for navigation. The 2nd day the machine wouldn't boot. We had been abusing the W500 a lot.
I just checked the USB ports after reading this thread and, sure enough, one of the 3 USB ports on the left side is DESTROYED! The pinds were crushed and touching. As soon as I seperated the pins it booted right up!
I agree - check your USB ports to make sure they are not compromised.

  • T400s GPS - Ericsson F3507g Windows 7 drivers

    Hi All,
I would like to highlight that drivers for WWAN fro Windows 7 arent working properly. I have T400s with WWAN Ericsson F3507g, 3G broadband is working fine, only GPS isnt working at all. When I open GPS enabler all the time I have stallite acquisition in progress and all values are N/A. Also Garmin Mobile PC isnt able to recognise this GPS. I have tried with preinstalled Windows 7 pro 32 bit, and also with Windows 7 ultimate 32 and 64 bit - always the same GPS not working at all.
After that installed Vista as a test, here GPS is working fine also Garmin is able to operate with it. When Vista drivers are installed in Windows 7 GPS seems to be working but after that wifi profiles in Access connections arent working properly.
All tests were made at the same time (5 minutes) at the same place, so GPS signal was good and conditions were same for Vista and also for Windows 7.
So Lenovo team please fix this problem with GPS drivers for WIN7.
    Thank you,
    David

    Hello all from Lenovo,
I think that there is time for upgraded drivers for F3507g for windows 7 isnt it? I was waiting for WIN7 with this notebook and finally when this version was avaliable on market there is not everything working. So please release some update to get GPS working on WIN7.
    Thanks,
    David

  • 2nd Request - PCI Memory Controller for ThinkPad T500 2081-CTO OS Vista 64bit

Evidently the PCI Memory Controller driver is not installed on my ThinkPad T500 2081-CTO OS Vista 64bit and shows up as an error when running the Lenovo System Tool Box.
Searching this forum I found one psot as follows BUT thisis for a T-200 laptop.
Re: Driver for PCI Memory Controller
    Options
    ‎02-25-2009 06:59 AM
You need the driver for Intel Turbo Memory.  Only Windows Vista can use Turbo Memory, so we only have a Vista version for the driver:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67820
    Is this driver appropriate?
Do I need the PCI Memory Controller driver .. and if so where do I find it for my laptop?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would suggest that you forget about turbo memory. Intel quit talking about it and they have not released a driver since 2009. That is 2 years before service pack 1 was released. I ran tests and I was never able to measure any improvement with a card installed. As far as I am concerned, it is just something else to break and interfere with other components.,

  • ThinkPad W500 eSATA compatible?

I just purchased a thinkpad w500 and an external HD that is eSATA compatible.  I was wondering if the newer w500's are eSATA compatible - is there an eSATA port on the laptop?  If not, would I get eSATA speeds with an eSATA to USB 2.0 adapter?

The newer W500's still don't have esata, I really wish mine did too, but I was able to get a esata to pci-express adapter, I have noticed varying speeds, not the greatest but sometimes good. I have tried it on a macbook pro also and worked even better. I believe my problem may be the drivers, their a bit of a pain on the Rosewell model I got but you should give it a shot, might work better with your hard drive or something, plus you can always return it within a certain amount of time. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839158011

    How dissable/reset power-on password on ThinkPad W500 ?
    SN: xxxxxxx 09/04
    I try this procedure:
    Turn off the computer.
    Remove the battery pack.
    Remove the backup battery.
Turn on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The POP has been removed.
Reinstall the backup battery and the battery pack.
    but power-on password still here
Moderator Note; s/n edited for member's own protection

    Exactly what doesn't work?
from a completely shut down state, not a re-start, press and hold the F1 key while starting the system.  The system should then beep and show the lock symbol with the error codes which mean that the date and time aren't correct, (as a result of the CMOS battery being pulled).
At the lock prompt enter your supervisor password, not the old or new power-on password, set the time and date to the correct values and remove or change the supervisor password as described in the manual.  If you do not know the supervisor password you will need to find it out from the previous owner if there was one; otherwise you will need a new mainboard.

  • T500 + ericsson F3507g

I bought my t500 when it was few months old and I have been using it over a year. Yesterday I decided to remove intel turbo memory chip, because after installing a SSD it was really slowing down boot time. So I took a look into a HW maintenance guide, took a screwdriver and opened the computer. And then, what a suprise: I found an ericsson F3507g card installed. I didn't know I had one, because it never showed in device manager. I'm using win7 64bit.
I tried installing drivers, etc., but keep geting the same error: Mobile broadband device not found.Windows simply doesn't find it.
    Any ideas?

  • Partition Magic Error 110 on new Thinkpad W500

I have a new W500 that (automatically) configured to WinXP right out of the box (which is the OS I want).
After getting the OS in order (updates, customizations, firewall, anti-virus, firmware updates, etc.) I installed my PowerQuest Partition Magic v8 (and applied the patch v8.01).
The HD was configured as almost entirely used by C:, with some 5g allocated to the 'hidden' partition.
I'm trying to resize C: down to about 25g, in order to be able to created new partitions, and I am unable to do so.
I'm first receiving Error 110 "Partition table number of sectors is inconsistent" and PM is asking me if I want to "fix" this situation.  I have NOT YET allowed PM to proceed.  After that, it attempts to still "run", but then I get some other errors and the program closes.
I ran the reporting/inquiry program and it gave me a few other errors on the partitions (i.e. Errors 105, 106 108, and 109).
From what I've seen on the internet, there seems to be some problem(s) with PMv8 and Vista, but I am running XP.
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
our mods here do favour it, too.
And member TomTom in my sugested thread has done it simply and fast.
There is NO problem partitioning the drive, though you have to be careful not to modify/ erase the last special partition.
R&R files are kept on the C: drive so there is a special partition at the end of the drive,
that is used for booting before the OS.
If you damagethis one, theres is no more Blue Button functionality.
Please, first burn your recovery DVD´s and safe your C:/SWTool folder, if something goes
wrong you can easily restore your system with your software.
    Regards

  • Problems with Ericsson F3507g card - does anyone understand Access Connections log files?

I am having big problems getting an f3507g mobile broadband card working on a T500 running XP Pro.
Have had problems with several machines all supplied in the same batch and it turns out that the BIOS needs to be reset to defaults post installation of the card for it to be properly recognised by the OS.
Anyway, all machines are now fixed with the exception of one....
Everything looks okay on the surface - the F3507g card is showing under Device Manager, just to be sure I've reinstalled Access Connections and loaded drivers for the card.  I know that the driver install was successful because it pinged up with the standard driver install success message - 'Windows found new hardware...' about half a dozen times immediately following the install.  Having done the driver install I attempted connection and the CA Internet Security Suite Firewall popped up asking whether I wanted to accept the device as a 'Safe' device - clicked yes to that.
    However, attempting connection never works
I've tried enabling logging and the log file produced together with a fault report is here.
I have tried the SIM card under test in another machine and it works. I have also swapped the HDD out of another identical brand new machine and it works with the hardware including the Ericsson card - so the issue has to be software related...
I could reimage but the user will loose some graphic design application software which is very difficult to reinstall.
Hope someone that understands Access Connections WWAN debug log files or has had a similar experience might be able to point me in the right direction...
    Many thanks

    @ Deadloss,
have you checked the power settings in the cards properties? Not that windows is turning it off?
Are you using a factory image or your own custom image, I'm thinking that maybe a reimage might help ??
    @ schm1tty,
T-Mobile SIMs work fine, what problems are you having? Maybe you could start a new thread so as not to hijack this one.

  • Problem hibernate with ThinkPad T400 2764 CTO................

Sorry all because my english is very bad..........
i have a problem with my thinkpad, when i am using my laptop with full battery or using adapter , the laptop auto hibernate, it's like when my laptop low battery,......somebody like me.........help me to fix this problem...
    Thanks

    Hi thptquochoc,
Does it happen only when the computer is idle?
You have some settings in power manager where you can specify that the computer should hibernate when idle for a certain period of time. If set too low it might hibernate pretty fast when you leave the computer idle. If not using power manager there is a similar settings in Windows under power options. You have the options to specify that the computer should hibernate when running on battery, power adapter or you can disable this setting as well to prevent hibernate.
If you let me know the version of Windows you use i can be more specific where to find those settings if that might be the problem.

  • Thinkpad W500 and OpenSuse 11.1

I installed OpenSuse 11.1 on W500. I am very impressive.
What works out of the box:
        X-windows (I use Intel driver)
        Microphone
        Webcam
        Trackpoint and trackpad
        Bluetooth
Wireless (it identified my card as 5100 rather than 5300, but still work anyway)
        Ethernet
        Suspend to Ram also work
    What doesn't work:
        Fingerprint
Modem? (I haven't digged into this)
one Issue I found is, the computer is hotter(quite obvious) under Linux compare to running on windows.
I checked cpuinfo, its frequency stays at 800mhz most of the time (just like Windows), I don't know which parts generate so much heat.  Maybe the unused AMD graphic core? (I set to use integrated GPU in BIOS)
if anyone has idea about why W500 is hotter in Linux, plz let me know.
    thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can't think of anything other than the ATI card.
I consistently have the following behaviour:
BIOS set to switchable, console mode, ATI card always above +50C, lots of heat.
BIOS set to integrated, console or graphics mode, ATI card temperature unreadable, the wind that comes out seems to be cool (I would even say fresh).
BIOS set to discrete, console mode, ATI card above +50C.
BIOS set to discrete, graphics mode with fglrx driver, ATI card at 34C, warm wind.
Consequently, it seems to me that the only thing that can be generating such heat is the graphics card, and would tell you to recheck your BIOS setting.
I'm running Gentoo. The only thing which is not working right now and bothers me is the suspend-to-ram.
I wish it was working out of the box. LCD brightness controls took a bit, everything else didn't take much time.

  • Ericsson F3507G not recognised by Windows 7 on my T410s

    Hi There,
I have just received my T410s complete with E// WWAN card and I cannot seem to get windows 7 to recognise it.  Lights on laptop are showing that unit is powered up noting showing in connections.
Sometimes when I boot I get error telling me remove WWAN as it is not compatible which is strange.  I have downloaded all the drivers but I think main issue is Windows doesnt see it.
I see people have solved with Unix but what about just when windows is installed??
    Help would be appreciated!!

Open the access cover on the bottom and reseat the Ericsson card (if you are comfortable with that). The boot error tells me that there may be an issue with the card itself which may need to be replaced under warranty.

  • Thinkpad w500 Bluetooth wont stay on

I thought perhaps something was wrong with my win7 install. I have been fighting with bluetooth issues for some time and finally got tired of not being able to use it and did a fresh reload with all the latest drivers deliverd via the update tool. Bluetooth now functions and I am able to pair a headset and mouse. The problem I have always had and still have is that after EVERY reboot, I have to hit Fn-F5 and then turn ON bluetooth again. Wireless stays on. The switch is NOT flipped to the off position and once I turn on bluetooth via Fn-F5, it shows up in device manager and all my bluetooth stuff works fine. I have 2 other laptops (Not Thinkpads) that retain their bluetooth setting after a reboot. I really doubt, that having bluetooth turn off after every reboot is a "feature". How do I make bluetooth stay on no matter what?

    Hi, rkenders
Click on the Start menu and type msconfig into the box. Hit Enter, This will bring up a Windows that shows every program and service that will start when Windows boots. Make sure that the Bluetooth service is checked in this menu.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam
