Hi,
Add Milos Puchta's suggestion, you can refer to this official article to install Windows 7 using bootcamp.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad x121e - windows 10 installation

nightmare trying to find a suitable place to post so apologies if this should be elsewhere. Lenovo Thinkpad x121e - windows 10 installation OK, looks like I boobed and installed windows 10 - having received the lovely invitation from dear old microsoft I assumed that it would be compatible. Unfortunately, my laptop is not at all happy. Screen blinks and goes a little bonkers while loading up programs and makes the computer unusable, although each time it seems to advance a little - now 36 hours in and one time it even showed up the MS blocky interface. What is my best move forwards? A reset? Any help greatly appreciated as I am now minus my laptop.

I had exactly the same problem.I tried to fix it like you using the Lenovo software to no avail. The solution for me was to use "settings" in Windows: Go to Start/Settings/Network & Internet/WiFi and hopefully (as I did) you will find it switched off. Then switching on should find your router and hence switch on your WiFi.

  • Trackpoint in Thinkpad X121e not always working

    Hi,
my Lenovo Thinkpad X121e runs with ArchLinux x86_64 and all packages updated (no testing versions). All worked fine, but since a while i have the problem, that the trackpoint sometimes does not work. This occurs randomly at startup. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. If it works, it keeps working all the time the machine is running. If it is not running, after a reboot it will most likely work. This problem seems to occur randomly at about every tenth start of the machine. I remember that the trackpoint did work without problems in the past, but some update in the last few months has killed it. I currently cannot figure out, why this happens.
I attached the dmesg and lsmod output for the working and non-working state of the trackpoint. If you need more info, please ask. I hope someone can help me :-)
    Thanks.
Edit: Added also the Xorg.0.logs for working and non-working states.

OK, ignore my last post pointing the finger at udev.
I poked around in the kernel code; it was actually kinda fun. Now this looks more like either a hardware problem (unlikely) or a driver bug (more likely) to me:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1894892
Thought I'd pass along what I found.
During a boot, the kernel will "walk" all the buses looking for devices. The methods used to find them on some buses (like PCI) are well defined, while others are not (like the serial bus). On those buses that aren't well defined the kernel will (probably) literally "probe" the bus trying to not only find a device, but also determine the exact chip installed.
It's the second case that's involved in your problem. The serio driver found the Synaptics touchpad device (via probing). If you look closely at the kernel log, you'll see it's attached to your i8042 (PS/2) chip.  But... since this touchpad device has a "passthru port", it has to perform extra steps to determine if there's a chip on the "other side" of that touchpad chip. In your case there is, and it's your Trackpoint.
If it's successful in finding the Trackpoint chip, the drivers/input/mouse/trackpoint.c kernel driver file will put the following in your syslog:
IBM TrackPoint firmware: 0x0e, buttons: 3/3
Which is what you see in your logs when it works. Since you don't see it when it fails, then the code probably isn't being executed or it's failing with an error condition.
Now... when a driver finds a device, it usually (but not always) creates some virtual "files" in the /sys directory... and that's what will happen if that trackpoint.c code is executed...
input: TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint as /devices/platform/i8042/serio4/serio5/input/input11
So... one question is... "Does it create something in /sys when it fails?". From looking at the code, I highly doubt it.
Although this looks somewhat improbable, if the error path for this section of the code in the trackpoint_detect function of /drivers/input/mouse/trackpoint.c file is executed then it looks like it might match your error:
    psmouse->private = kzalloc(sizeof(struct trackpoint_data), GFP_KERNEL);
    if (!psmouse->private)
    return -ENOMEM;
Perhaps you might want to put some sort of printk call in there to see if that's what's happening. Heck, also add one to the top of the function to see if it's even being called.
    Good luck.

  • Installing Windows 7 OEM on Maverick

Apple Store advised me to get a Windows 7 OEM 64 bit disc for my 2013 macbook pro:
http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Premium-System-Builder-Packaging/dp/B00H09BB16/ref =sr_1_1?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1393131478&sr=1-1&keywords=windows+7 .  This is a generic OEM (not Dell, etc.)
I am using bootcamp, yet it won't install, and I end up with a black screen saying "No hardware detected."
An apple-care advisor later told me that bootcamp doesn't support OEM's at all.
But I have read of people installing Windows 7 on bootcamp using OEM disks throughout the Apple Forums.
There is also good feedback on installing Windows 7 on parallels, but I plan to use Windows for heavy gaming and game design, and I was advised against parallels for this purpose.
I'd love some feedback and advice on how best to install Windows 7.

Apple’s Genius Bar looked at the computer and the Bootcamp partition and said it was a Microsoft issue—and to call their customer support.  Apple, after endorsing the Bootcamp and Windows 7 option enthusiastically is now saying, that it’s a 50-50 proposition that Windows works on Maverick and MacBook.
Microsoft says it’s a Bootcamp problem.
When I try to repartition with Bootcamp, it's saying there is no driver.
    Anyone want to weigh in?
Is it merely a dud disk (that we paid full price for on Amazon—that is not a bootleg of any sort?
Is it worth investing in another disk?

  • Windows XP OEM Full

Hi, is it possible to install Windows XP OEM without SP2, and after instalation upgrade it to SP2? I asking this because I have the 2002 version of XP.
    Thanks,
    Biga

XP version is 2002 however double check to see if SP2 is already on there. If not then you cannot install it without SP2. Service Pack 2 must be on the same installation disk at the time of installation. Many have tried doing what you suggest but without success. Furthermore, if your OEM disk came with a PC that you already have then that will not work either even if it has SP2 on it. This is because that OEM disk has been used to install WIndows on your PC and its license cannot be used on different PCs.
So, to use an OEM FULL version, you will need to buy it.
There is one process that you can try to make this work. Assuming that you have a FULL version of Windows XP with SP1 and you have SP2 downloaded and saved on your HD, then you can use a method called slipstream. This method combines Windows XP and SP2 on to one installation disk to be used for installation of windows on a boot camp partition. This process is slightly difficult and instructions will need to be followed PERFECTLY. It has proven to be successful in some cases. Frankly, I don't think it is worth the headache. The instructions on slipstreaming are available [HERE|http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html].

  • Probook 4445s hangs in 8.1..need Windows 8 oem

Everything was fine when i am just using WINDOWS 8, this happened all after installling the 8.1 update.. i guess its a video driver problem..BTW I have installed all the HP drivers for 8.1..  Can I ask for a soft copy of windows 8 oem for my laptop or a download site to revert this back to windows 8?   any solution?

    Hello Eisman
I am sorry to hear you had issues with the Windows 8.1 update. You can easily restore your system back to Windows 8 by using the Microsoft System Restore. I am providing you with an HP Support document here that will provide you with instructions on how to do that. When you do your restore just ensure you choose a restore point when you had Windows 8 working correctly.
I hope this answers your question. I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great weekend!

  • Can install Hyper-V on Windows 8 OEM?

    Hi,
End User purchased Windows Server 2012 Volume License.
can end user install hyper-v on Windows 8 OEM?
    Looking forward for your reply.
    Thank you in an advance.
    Regards,
    Ganga

    Hello,
Hyper-V related questions should be posted in the Hyper-V forums here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/thread
Hyper-V can be installed on Windows 8 Pro, does not matter if Windows 8 Pro is OEM.  Windows 8 does not have the ability to install Hyper-V.

  • Yosemite won't recognize Windows 8 OEM disc

I have a fully legal, purchased from the store, with code, Windows 8 OEM disc. Yosemite absolutely refuses to believe it's real. I put it in the disc drive and it asked me what to do with this blank DVD, this was after I booted into the Bootcamp install and it kept asking me to put in a valid boot disc and press any key. What's going on with this? Why would a legit disc not work. I keep reading about ISOs, but I can't even make one of those if the system doesn't recognize the disc. Any ideas? Thanks!

    OEM disks can cause problems.

  • Can you use Windows 7 OEM on bootcamp

I want to install Windows 7 OEM edition on bootcamp? (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Windows-software-intended-builders/dp/B004Q0PT 3I/) Does anyone have experiance of this working?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You shouldn't have any problem installing that Windows 7 version, as it's general for all PCs, including Macs. The only problem you will have is that you will only be able to use that license with the iMac, and you won't be able to transfer it to another PC

  • Windows 7 OEM Reinstall

    Hello all,
I currently have Windows 7 OEM on a virtual machine on my MacBook Pro, but I wish to instead use it with Boot Camp where you can choose to boot into either Windows or Mac OS, because the performance is quite bad on a VM. I realize that Windows 7 OEM is bound
to your motherboard/BIOS. So, I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be possible to remove the VM I currently have Windows 7 installed, and then use the same installer disc and product key to create a Windows 7 partition in Boot Camp, since the VM and
new partition are using the same motherboard.
    Thanks
    -BrazM

You can install and activate the OS by calling MS support, activate windows using product ID.

  • Windows 8 oem upgrade to windows 8 pro MSDN

I am thinking of buying  a new PC for dev work which has windows 8 oem installed. As I have an msdn subscription can I use the windows 8 pro download to upgrade to this?
If the answer is yes how do I do it?
I see there is a retail windows 8 pro pack which is not available on msdn, however there is  a single multiple version download which is either windows 8 or pro and is predicated on entering the relevant product key to distinguish between
the two which suggests this is for a clean install.
I am reluctant to go the clean install route as this would run the risk of not having access to corresponding drivers as utility disks and download drivers are not always immediately available for new machines. (Have been caught out in the past by this!)
Hope someone can point me in the right direction - thanks.

    1. Press the Win key and the F key and type System
in the Search box, then click on Settings.
    2. Click on the System icon that appears
    3. In the window that opens, click on "Get more features with a new edition of Windows"
    4. Click on "I already have a product key".
    5. Enter your MSDN Windows 8 Pro product key.

    Utter nonsense.
trying to save money i got the oem version of windows 7. is there anything special that i need to do for installing windows 7 oem onto my imac using parallels?
Just use the defaults. Windows 7 is very slow and really RAM-hungry. You will need 8 GB of RAM on your Mac because Windows 7 needs 2 GB all by itself. Even with that, it runs twice as slow as Windows XP.
If you've already spent money, there isn't much you can do at this point. I suggest using Apple Pages and, when you are ready to submit something to your professor, export it as a Word document and then re-save that Word document as a Word XML doc. I don't know why Pages doesn't export in docx format. It is built into the operating system. I even have a little utility that will save your clipboard directly to docx. You can download a fully-functional demo from: http://www.etresoft.com/pastefiler
There are many other utilities that can do the same, including Office 2011 itself. I prefer Pages because it supports modern OS X technologies and is much faster and easier to use than Word, but Pages only exports to DOC, not DOCX. Word is better if you are doing really sophisticated document, but it costs a fair amount money.

  • ThinkPad x121e with or without UEFI Firmware?

I couldn't find any information in the tech specs if the ThinkPad x121e will have UEFI support.
Does anyone know if the x121e is ready for UEFI (just like the X220.)
    - Jonas

It does. The BIOS actually supports Legecy and UEFI, you can switch which loads first or set the BIOS only to load one or the other.  The option is under Startup.
The default is to load UEFI first, but if the OS doesn't support it, it will load Legacy support (for XP etc...)

  • Can I use my windows 8 oem embedded product key to windows 8.1?

I have Y500 and I change the hard drive because the default hard drive fails.
I can't find Windows 8 OEM version, so I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Media Creation Tool.
Create a bootable usb, choose Windows 8.1/64Bit.
After the installation of OS, I try to view my product key and put it in activation, it doesn't work.
    What should I do?

It will not work. The OEM keys that come with a computer will not work in a Microsoft provided ISO install file. This is a Microsoft thing not a Lenovo thing.
Is your computer still in warranty? If it is, contact Lenovo customer support. They should be able to get you a system restore image. If its not still in Warranty, did you create a recovery disc when you first got the computer? If not then you will need to contact Customer Support and purchase a recovery set.
Also is the new harddrive the same size as the old one? If not you may have issues recovering your factory image.

  • Stripes on screen Lenovo Thinkpad x121e

    Hi,
I had sometimes horiznotal stripes on screen Lenovo Thinkpad x121e and sent it to service. Here is video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpTtHWkC1jI
They did tests and said that everything is OK,stripes didn´t discover.Few days ago,one day I see stripes on screen again.Where is problem?

    hey LTP80,
do you have any devices near it such as a radio player, cellphone, etc that could cause an interference ?
use that unit at a different location and see if the stripes appear. i'm guessing something in the original location is causing the stripe to appear.
that is why when the service center looked into the issue, they didnt find any.
