ThinkPad X201 vs new model X series??

Hi,
could you please give me your opinion.
if you buy new thinkpad, would you go for X201 or new model X series? almost same price.
as i am classic ThinkPad fanatic i love x201 but price is high considering it is old model.
what would be your idea?

Depends what you're looking for in a laptop.
Screen:
X201 has a 16:10 screen. X220 and later have 16:9 screens.
X201 can retrofit a ddecent AFFS screen. X220 and later have an okay IPS screen from factory.
Performance:
X201 through X230 have decently clocked full power CPUs. X240 has a bit weaker but still okay CPU. Everything afterwards is low-power.
X201 to X220 also significantly increased integrated GPU performance. X220 to X230 to X240 are modest increases.
Storage:
X201 can only take a primary drive. X220 and later can take a primary plus mSATA/NGFF SSD.
Wifi Card:
X201 and X220 can have the BIOS whitelist removed for wifi cards. X230 and later cannot.
Battery Life:
X201 to X220 is the biggest jump in battery life. X220 to X230 to X240 are relatively minor increases. X220 and later can take a battery slice too.
Keyboard:
X201 and X220 have classic keyboards. X230 and later have chiclet keyboards.

The Wi-Fi card in my new X201 is a "Thinkpad b/g/n" mini-pci card II"
I can't discern the manufacturer but someone said it's probably RealTek.
Running System > Administration > Hardware Drivers comes up with nothing.
Any ideas? No one on the Ubuntu forums is responding, so far.
(Wish I'd gotten the Intel wi-fi card.) The card works fine in Windows.
Anyone know where or how to get a driver for this?

I had the 6200 in my T410 (now sold) and I know it will work fine.

ThinkPad Twist s230u and ThinkPad x201 Tablet Creating Recovery Media

Hi Lenovo Customer Support,
ThinkPad s230u( model number: 3347CTO) - Window 8 Pro.
Before I start using my Laptop, I want to create a Recovery Media as is shown when installed with all partitions. Meaning if I format all contents of Laptop I want a recovery Media brings back computer as I go it in the first place include all partitions. By default there are five hidden partition and one ntfs.
What is the procedure how to Create a Recovery Media? I heard only Flash Recovery exist for Window 8.
Also I have Window 8 Pro but when I tried this link procedure http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Create-Win-8-recovery-media-in-ThinkPad-Thi... I saw only Window 8 option and even then it reboot and did not work.
Also I did Flash Recovery and Took Faster with USB 3.0 Flash around 10 min around 16GB Space
Is it possible to do CD Recovery too ?

Reasons am asking this questions:
Sometime you test your computer doing a lot of things learning new technologies etc and suddenly you decide ok I want to take it back to factory state. Until now, most Thinkpad laptop does not come with recovery media. So how can I assure that my Recovery Media includes everything I used to have when I first receive unit.
I want to learn how to do that by myself by learning from the experts.
Until now what I know as follow:

I tried recovery media 3 DVD only with original hard drive works. I did not try Flash and not sure there is option yet.
If I upgrade unit with 1T hard drive and 16G Ram, How can I do Recovery Media?
ThinkPad Twist s230u:
I tried Flash and followed procedure on link in previous post. I took me less than 15 min to recovery whole. The question is does this process recover all the parts that is included when I receive unit.
I was unable to do recovery since I am not sure when in the Flash and during process showed to choose operating system was only Window 8 option not Window 8 Pro which came with unit.
I was able to do reset within system took longer and worked.
Is the recovery part build-in in the hardware or software partition? Is it included in the recovery Flash with all partitions?

i have recently sent my x201 to lenovo service and they have replaced the LCD Panel
installed FRU was 42T0711 and replaced one is 42T0709
screen is very flexy and between bezel and the panel i can see backlights. is that normal?

No. I just got two of my X201 on my side and none of them have a gap in the bezels. And one of these two was a guinea pig for a panel swap so I ended removing and re-installing the bezel too many times. Still sits perfectly flat and with no flex or gap at all:

Could not get Crucial M500 SSD to work in Thinkpad X201

I have a ThinkPad X201 running Window 7, I have not make any changes to the computer hence all the hardware are original.Except when I recently bought a Crucial M500 SSD, First I use MiniTool to clone the HD to the new SSD. After cloning, I install the SSD into the X201. Window appear to boot up normally with no error message. But soon I notice the Window is not working correctly. For example Window no longer recognize Microsoft published program. For a simple thing like pressing Del to delete a file. A UAC warning will come on to asked if I will allow delete,exe from an unknown publisher to make changes to the computer.Then I tried to repair window by downloading the Window 7 ISO file from microsoft site and proceed to do an upgrade of Window, The upgrading process took quite a while. When everything appear to have finished an error message came on to say "Window setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". So I gave up on cloning and try to make a clean install of Wondow on the SSD by using the Recovery DVD that came with the computer. The installation process gone through but at the end it ask me to put in the supplementary disk which did not come with the computer. Hence I could not complete the process. I am at a total loss, what can I do next to get it to work?

Crucial normally supplies Apricorn EZ Gig software with their drives. If you don't have it, check Crucial's website and there should be a download available. It should work when it detects a Crucial drive connected.
I didn't understand that you said you were going to order an external enclosure. How did you do your clone with Minitool? If you were using an adapter cable, you should also be able to use it to connect the HDD externally.
The cloning software should take care of everything for you. The cloned disk should be a seamless, plug-and-play version of the original. You should not have to fix anything afterwards. Just boot it and start using it directly.

Hi Guys, I have a problem with Rosemount Radar Level Trasnmitter Model 5400 series with Foundation Fieldbus, the indication of radar in NI-FBUS software configurator was good no Error, but when I try to connect the segment to the Centum VP DCS, the radar lost in the list, but another device in the segment still in the list, only the radar lost from the list.please your advice what make the radar lost in the list?, Thank you

Hi Nanda,
Would you check if the addresses of the device conflicts with one of the new devices in the cascaded segments?
If this is not the issue, can you try to see what happens if you only use this one device with the same procedure you have done? Just wanna try to narrow down where the problem is. A capture by FBUS Monitor is even better.

T61 Motherboard changed - Things to do ? New Modell Nr. ?

Hello,
because of NDIDA defect my motherboard was changed by a service company to one with an INTEL grafic ship instead of NVIDIA. New FRU is 41W1487 instead 41W1489. It runs fine, but I have further questions before reinstalling system.
- does my system now have a new model number (old 7664-1GG),
- how to search lenovo driver/bios updates for this board ?
- if I use recovery (from HD) option, does this run without problems ?
- will Thinkvantage recognize the new board so, that update will be the right ?
- any other things to do ?

You can do a reinstall from a set of recovery discs , or you can install windows from a windows setup disc. As for the new model number, that is normal, your board is different so it should recognize this. I'm sure the repair shop discussed the fact that they were changing your board so your drivers and software would be different, so a small amount of adapting to this is required, but it's really not a big deal. If it was my system, I'd just remove the recovery software, it's taking up a lot of space and although its very nice to have back when the software and operating system were new, but now, if used it would update you to 4yo software drivers, so it's not of much use (In my opinion).

Corporate users generally like to create their own custom image, and don't use the factory preload.
Few weeks back we had 12 Dell Vostro-something to install. Not Thinkpad X220 class, but they came with nothing preinstalled, except for simple backup/restore util.
Actually I appreciate tools like Access Connections, System Update, Toolbox and I'm not considering them as crapware.
What I don't like in X220 - there is a lot of things like NIS, Chome, Google Toolbar, some Office templates, etc. In my opinion, it could be better to give user a choice after startup, do install this stuff or to delete it and recover precious (SSD!) disk space.
I won't be using this X220 myself, at least not very often, but I'm about to order new T420 for my use, so possibly another experiences will be coming, only if I'll have some spare time.

I bought a Macbook Pro 15 last month, is it worth upgrading to the new model?

Hi,
I bought a Macbook Pro 15 last month (the lower end model) on interest free credit. I mainly got it for music and film editing. I was aware that Apple were about to announce a new series of Macbooks but kind of needed it then! Anyway, is it worth me selling this Macbook and buying the newer model that was just announced? I know I'd lose a couple of hundred £ through selling this one but would it be worth the upgrade?
Also, is there another upgrade to the new models coming? I.e. will there be a smaller scale update in 6 months?

MSI NEW P.E. Series Video Card - GTX670 Power Edition 2GD5/OC with Twin Frozr 4

Glad to be back in the forum and I was been busy for awhile. By this time lots of PC hardware already came out especially from Nvidia. Just like today my share would be MSI's N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC video card.
First of all lets talk about the GTX670 GPU chip. This GPU is the younger sibling of GTX680 which uses the same 28nm GK104 chip but with one disabled shader cluster/core.The reference or standard GPU clock is 915Mhz with a turbo boost of 980 and as for the memory is concerned, it has a 256bit memory bus connected to a 2GB GDDR5 memory with speed of 6008Mhz. Just like with any Kepler based architecture, the card would also have all the goodies like "Adaptive V-Sync", "AA TXAA (Temporal Super Sampling)", supports "DX11.1" and improved 3D Vision Surround.
Moving on, let's check out now what MSI did with their GTX670 SKU based video card. The card is under a new Series named "Power Edition" (series comparison table below) and it comes factory overclocked from GPU clock of 915MHz to 1020MHz and Turbo boost of 980Mhz to 1080Mhz. It also comes with the 4th version of Twin Frozr Thermal Cooling design with a theme color of Black and Blue which matches the color of MSI's midrange to high-end motherboards as well. I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera... is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

Screen sharing setup in 10.5, 10.6 are described by the links by operating system. 10.7 is fairly similar to 10.6.
And if both Macs have Firewire, you can setup a Firewire over IP network for fast communication between machines. Note if you have two different Firewire ports a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable does exist. There are no Firewire to USB cables.

How to customize Category and Category items list while creating New Model

what the most convenient way to customize the Category and Category items list while creating New Model?
This is standard:
Now, what we want to achieve, is to customize this menu, to:
1. Display in the Category window only f.e. two categories:
- EA Diagrams
- BPM Diagrams
2. In the EA Diagrams, we want to have f.e. four copies of City Planning diagram, each of them should have different elements available, f.e. in the first copy, only Architecture Areas shall be made available, in the second one Architecture Areas and Business Functions, in the third on f.e. only Business Functions shall be made available. Additionally, it should behave like a hierarchy ... meaning you can create the second diagram, only as child (related diagram) of the first diagram etc.
I know, excluding the particular diagrams/diagram elements can be configured using the right/profile settings, but how to:
1. Customize the standard New Model menu window
2. Create copies of City Planning Diagrams with different set-ups
3. Set the relationship between diagrams
Is such a configuration change possible?

Click on Tools => General Options=> Model Creation
Click on Properties => at right of Default category set
Note : Model template does not work as Category. We can't set. An enchancement request has been open to SAP
In the following example I defined a new default (MyNewDefault.mcc). As you can see only BPMN models are available.
To create a new category set with BPMN choice
a) Copy default.mcc in MyNewDefault.mcc file.
    Go to Tools=>General Options=>Model Creation : Select your new category
    Go to Tools=>General Options=>Model Creation : Edit properties and remove all things you does not want keep

b) Go to Tools=>General options=>Model Creation : Edit properties and click on Save as button and specify the file name "MyNewDefault".
    Quit the window.
    Select you new category : Go to Tools=>General Options=>Model Creation : "MyNewDefault"
    Edit properties and remove all things you does not want keep.
    Save you new category

     Specify yours conditons in your extension attached to your model
     Example : When the user want create a child diagram : You can display a list of Parent Diagrams to select from.
     You can set in your extension by VBScript parent-child relationship
Question #4 In the EA Diagrams, we want to have f.e. four copies of City Planning diagram, each of them should have different elements available, f.e. in the first copy, only Architecture Areas shall be made available, in the second one Architecture Areas and Business Functions, in the third on f.e. only Business Functions shall be made available.
If I understand well your question. I suggest to take a look in
Repository=>Administration=>Objects Permission Profile
You can specify objects to show, mask, deactivate at model level.
You can specifiy your own metadata.
But I'm not sure you can mask, deactivate functions following diagram selection. It seem to specific.
