Thinkpad X201i wierd sound

I have test the system health check but no hardware error found. I had a problem with one weird 'tak' sound. System running Windows 7 is running as usual but I left it for about an hour and I touch it by lift it up or move it then I heard 'tak' sound. It appear only once. Later I move it again there is no 'tak' sound appear unless I keep it idle for about hour or half. Anyone experience the same behavior with me? if yes then I consider this is normal. Thank for any reply and helps

I did some test just now. I try to disable the Active  Protection and leave the laptop on for half hour...after that I lift up the laptop and there is no tak or click sound heard....
then i enable back the active protection and straight away lift up the laptop and I heard the tak or click sound once, then i lift up again and again no more tak or click sound...but i will hear it again when it kept for half hour of idle...
any opinion?

  • Really wierd sound in MBP.

I recieved my mbp a few days ago and love it. But today i had it on the desk and went to move it to the other room and i heard a wierd sound when it was at an angle that sounds like magnetic balls were rolling around. Its hard to describe the sound but it did sound like little balls were rolling around. It stopped doing it now. Please hel[ figure out what the sound was! Thanks
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Well, I would have said the hard drive, however, the fact that it only happens while on an angle leads me to believe it may be the fan. I can't imagine the hard drive being damaged to the point where it grinds on tilt and yet still works. More likely it is a loose fan that is aggravated by a tilt. It all depends on the location of the sound though.

  • ThinkPad T60p No Sound

I am having trouble with sound on my ThinkPad T60p. I do not have a sound device listed on my Sounds tab in my control panel. And, when I look at the Device Manager, I notice that I have a tab called "Othe Devices" that all have yellow question marks out beside them. I have listed my specifics below. Can anybody help me?

First thing I would do is either download and install your sound drivers, or install "system update" and let it search for any updates you may need.
However, if this just suddenly happened, meaning it was working fine one day, then just stopped, then you could have some hardware failure, but I'd go this route first.

  • ThinkPad T430s No Sound Through Headphones or Internal Speakers

My laptop is unable to play sound through both headphones/earphones and its internal speakers.
I downloaded and installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from the following site: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t43... .
As a result, the Device Manager shows that the HD Audio Device is working properly.
Also, there is a green check mark over the internal speakers icon and headphones icon (when I plug the headphones into the jack), which was not present before I installed the Realtek Driver.
However, there is still an "X" over the audio icon in the taskbar.
When I click on the audio icon, the following window appears, stating that the audio device is disabled.
I have went through various forums and solutions, but none have been helpful so far.
Thank you so much for your time and help for this issue!

The Unknown Device seems to have disappeared from my Device Manager when I restarted my laptop. However, the HD Audio Device is still there.
My audio stopped working around December 23, 2014. Since then, I have tried to find solutions on various other sites. But, when I search for the System Restore, it only brings up a recent Windows Update.
Roll Back for the HD Audio Device is greyed out.
Also, after uninstalling the HD Audio Device and rebooting Windows, this dialog appears, mentioning that the Unidentified Device is something that was unplugged, which I think are the headphones. Also, there was a Failed installation for the Audio Device.
Thanks so much for helping me look into this problem.

  • Intel Management Engine version on ThinkPad X201i w/ Windows 8.1

I am having problems with my TP X201i CTO (freezes, very poor battery time) and have been trying to figure what is wrong. Have reinstalled the OS several times, but makes no difference.
I now noticed that I have Intel Management Engine version 6.2.50.1050 installed. Interestingly, this version does not seem to exist when I search for my machine (x201i, 3249, with Windows 8.1 Pro) on the drivers and downloads page at Lenovo.com. The latest version appears to be 6.2.50.1062, and the previous version was 6.2.20.1040 - and my version is in-between (!): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS012852
The obvious question is: should I upgrade to .1062? I guess Win8 and Win8.1 are sufficiently similar to mostly use the same drivers (the page only notes Win8, not Win8.1). Interestingly, I've used the "Update Driver..." utility in the Device Manager, but it claims I already have the latest version (?).
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that Intel graphics driver is not working in your Lenovo ThinkPad W530 after updating to Windows 8.1.
Try updating your chipset drivers and ensure that you have enabled onboard graphics in BIOS. Try to install Windows 8 driver and check if it helps.
This issue has been discussed at Intel community forums and they are working with Microsoft to get this issue fixed. Hope they will resolve the issue on priority and come up with an update. As of now, the only work around is to roll back the system to Windows 8 and wait for an update or patch.
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • Thinkpad Yoga - fan sounds like a plane

In tablet mode (and mostly when the tablet is horizontal) then the fan (I suppose it is the fan) makes some horrible noise. I can't work with it at work in this mode as my colleagues look at me weirdly. When I lift up the screen a bit, then the fan stops in a struggling sound.
I did a video of the issue:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0Y0hEr3qKc
It's a shame because in latpop mode it doesn't make any sound, even thought the work I do in laptop mode is much more intensive. Would not be for the sound, this is the best laptop I ever had. The keyboard is great, the edges are not sharp, the screen is beautiful, the wacom pen works perfectly. An awesome computer.
Anyone one had this fan noise issue?

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that fan in your Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga is making noise.
If your laptop feels hot and shows any of the problems below, chances are its overheating or getting there:
Fan constantly running and making loud whirring noises
Computer struggling to perform basic tasks like opening a new browser window
Mysterious error messages popping up in random programs
Lines on your laptop screen (a sign your video card is overheating)
System freezing or the dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death)
The laptop abruptly shuts down on its own
First of all, update BIOS to the latest version.
Use dust remover spray to clean out of the laptop's vents. Dust can accumulate in and block the laptop's fan vents. Start using compatible cooling pads which will help in the flow of cool air into the underside vents of the laptop. Keep your working environment or computer room as comfortably cool as possible. Check if the fan is touching some wires during spinning to cause the noise.
    Best Regards,
    Mithun.

  • .: Extremly wierd sound settings

? I'm runing Vista Ultimate x86 and a Soundblaster Audigy.
?Ok, i never had a problem untill now, with the sound card, or drivers, i had custom drivers, original disc drivers and updated drivers and i didn't have any issues... Untill now
?I don't know what went wrong, and what's the issue, is it hardware or software based...
    ?Here i go...
?I only get full 5. sound when i connect only the green (Front Speakers) into my amp...
?If i connect ALL the jacks into my amp, Rear speakers (black) jack or Sub/Center (orange) i get sound only from front speakers
?In Windows Vista Speaker configuration, i get sound when i test the speakers with all jacks connected, but if playback, ANYTHING i only get sound from front speakers, sound from the rest of the speakers is enabled only AFTER I REMOVE ALL JACKS EXCEPT GREEN ONE, i tried other cables, switching them around, cleaned installed drivers, modded drivers, original drivers, same issue! ?
I can't say when this started, but i noticed just yesterday, and since then, i tried anything, except, removing the card form the pc and cleaning it, because it's kind of hard removing my rig from under my desk... ? Am i the only one experiencing this problems?! Please help me...

I googled it and came up with this thread:
    http://direct-connect.net/showthread.php?t=982
Basically, it sounds a siren like tone when you dial 911, to let you know that you are dialing an Emergency number.  It seems there are advantages and disadvantages, some like it and others find it useless or annoying, even dangerous in some situations.
Just FYI - I checked my settings and I have it off.  Thankfully, I've never had to dial 911 on my cell phone....

Try making a custom equalizer setting to fit your preferences. Also check if your head phones are noise cancelling or virtual surround sound types. It would say this on the box you got the headhones in.

  • Thinkpad W530 Humming Sound

Anyone else getting this humming sound? It's really quiet, but noticeable when you don't have music on. Anyone know how to fix it?

In that case it's probably the CPU. It's been a problem with Intel CPUs for generations. Varies by batch.
To double check, disable CPU power management from Power Manager > Advanced > Global Power Settings and see if it goes away. If so, call support and see if they'll replace the CPU for you.

  • X server crashes randomly on ThinkPad X201i with GNOME2 as desktop env

    Hi folks,
I installed archlinux with gnome2 on my new X201i, which has intel graphic chip.
But the gnome2 (i.e., the xorg server) randomly crashes, quitting to command line suddenly, with all my work lost!
The sad thing is, I manually 'startx' after booting, without using gdm. So the workaround of 'moving gdm to the end of DAEMON list' doesn't work for me.
And I even cannot stably reproduce the crash: it just happen randomly, about once per day.
The DAEMONs I start at boot time are:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus hal network netfs crond alsa laptop-mode ntpd)
    The MODULEs are:
    MODULES=(fuse tp_smapi vboxdrv)
The command I use to startx is: (in .xinitrc)
    exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch gnome-session

  • Thinkpad Tablet Music Sound Issue

I have an X220 tablet, 4294CTO, and I think the sound card has taken a vacation. Was working then not. Get the message "no audio output device detected" but I have not made any changes to my machine. have two questions, 1) is the sound card integrated on the motherboard, and 2) how do i determine which mother board I have? I know i have the i7-2640M, but not sure what the AMT and TPM options are. If you think it's not the board I wouldn't mind keeping the money in my pocket :-)
    Thanks for the help, Mike

    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page
from the above, you can find the exact planar that was installed in the machine.
But for an i7 X220t motherboard it would be quite expensive, more than what your machine is worth (if you are getting a new one). While, the second hand one from ebay can sometimes have quality or hardware issues.
For a more cost effective fix, you should just get an ExpressCard Sound Card, which cost under 100 dollars. You would also gain better sound quality, among other features.

  • Wierd sound devices in testing/kernel26

Just installed the testing kernel and alsa devices seem messed up. There is a new entry named pcsp (the beeper) in both alsamixer & kmix, and there are no capture devices, kmix shows all the playback devices while alsamixer shows only the Master but i can't rase the sound level , i hear only sound pcps, i have managed to make master work for kde apps by putting pcps on the bottom of the list in Sound settings in systemsettings, so it works, only something is messed in the alsa configuration.
So is this valid for a bug report or should i try to manually change the settings?
