Thinkpad X230 displayport goes blank on resolution switch

Hi, I'm using an external monitor NEX MultiSync EA244WMi connected via Displayport to my X230 (Windows 7 Pro 64bit). I happen to use different graphics settings for various purposes - from extended desktop at full resultion to external only at 1024x768 in some games. Every few times, when I swich my graphics mode on the external monitor - typically from lower resolution to the full resolution - the displayport stops working. Meaning- as long as the cable is connected, computer thinks there is a display and is trying to use it... however monitor is showing "no signal" and going into sleep mode. - disconnecting the display port cable is switching to laptop only mode - this works fine- reconnecting the display port cable is switching Windows to use it again, it's waking up the monitor for a while but nothing is presented and it's again showing no-signal and going to sleep So far the only way around I found was to put the computer into the sleep mode (or reboot), than after it's started again all works fine for a while - hence it looks like a software/firmware problem on my X230... any ideas appreciated... BR. Alek

Hi Alan,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
Can you check uninstalling the current graphic driver from Control panel -- Program & feature option, and download the latest version from the below link.
Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit), Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)
Hope this helps.

  • IBM Thinkpad Monitor goes blank after a few miniutes

    Hi,
I have aT43p with an ATI Mobility FireGL V3200 running XP Sp2. For the past couple of weeks the screen goes blank (Black) after several minutes. I can use the Fn-F7 to toggle the monitor between LCD and external monitor (which is not attached) and back to LCD (or dual display) and the LCD works again!, but alas only for several more moments and then it goes blank again and I have to re-toggle. I find that if I run on only battery power I get several extra minutes before Blacks-Ville. The same effect can be achieved by putting her to sleep and then waking her.
I should mention that there is a slight pink tinge to the display during the initial splash screen (while the option to enter the Bios via blue Access IBM button), but this goes completely for subsequent screen displays.
I can connect across the LAN using VNC and can see windows (as one would expect).
I have gone to the support area and downloaded all drivers and reinstalled to no avail. I have also checked the Monitor connections, but there is no obvious loose connection. I have also run a in-depth virus analysis (using ESET NOD) and an Adaware sweep, again with no positive result. I have also gone into MSCONFIG, disabled as much as I can and I have also rolled back using System Restore to a time before the issue presented.
Nothing that I have done to date has made the slightest difference.
The screen Blacks even if I go straight to Bios which inclines me to think that the problem lies outside of Windows.
If anybody has any ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hello ddempsey,
I can confirm all your problems (except the "slight pink tinge"- sure it is not
a reflection or so?), I've got them on my a21p since a couple of years as well.
I am using  an external monitor after I tried all software possibilties and was
fed up with the toggling. colours are still excellent, I contradict a dying
as such, a digital display is either on or off, not fading away.
in desperation I replaced the inverter card (part number 12P3053) as a
last resort but without any success.
so I was happy to find one with exact the same problem and I hope
by jumping on your train that someone comes up with a solution.
    have you tried this:
if you do not boot windows, leaving a plain start screen
either by pressing pause or later f8 the display shuts down
in the same way, thereby proving that the problem
is beyond an explanation due to a higher resolution task.
this arouses a suspicion whether the ATi Rage Mobility graphic card
(messing up in all brands of notebooks - see copious complains in the www)
might be the cause. unfortunately ATI been bought by AMD
but the support of its successor for old cards is a disgrace compared
what Lenovo still delivering for ancient IBM users!

  • My computer acts like its switching off and then goes blank on the screen then no response

Hi I was recently playing a game and all of a sudden my computer keeps acting like its shutting down but then locks up just as its supposed to switch off it goes blank on my screen it has never done it before I have had it for a few years now I have played a few different games online and this has never happened before till recently.
I have used a few anti virus programs to try and find a virus that could be causing it a few were found it said they were malware or Trojans and they got removed. I also tried to check for any other viruses nothing found I even uninstalled some games as well.
problem could my system hardware be failing? any help much appreciated.
I also cleaned it out thinking it was overheating could it be possible that the motherboard or proscessor its overheating and burning out. This has happened 14times now doesnt matter what game i play it keeps doing it I think its done it when i just left it on while i was using intrnet i think my dads tried few things and hasnt worked help!!!!!! plz

    Samuel32_826,
If you have a virus you can run a system recovery to remove the virus.
The system recovery will remove everything on your computer including the virus and put the system back to day one. Just like when you opened it out of the box.
Here is a link that will walk you through the steps of the recovery.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • 30" DP monitor keeps going blank for a few seconds.

    I have 2x 30" montiros:
    1. dell U3011 Display port
    2. dell 3007WFP with active Dual link DVI to displayport.
Both cost in the region of £1300.
Neither will work with the think pad W530 + 2000KM, but both work flawlessly with macbooks and any dell with DP.
    Only the thinkpad doesnt work.
    The symptoms are this:
    1. U3011: goes blank (black) for 2s every 30s.
    2. 3007WFP Blank for 30s, flashes the desktop for 2s, then goes  blank again.
Clearly there is a serious issue with the thinkpads displayport or drivers.
Both monitors work perfectly if I unplug the minidsplayport from my thinkpad, and plug it into any other laptop with mini-displayport (have tried 2macs and 2 dells - all 4 no issues).
If I plug the monitors into the mini-doc3, they work fine, no flashing.  If I plug either into the mini-displayport on the lalptop itself, then they flash.
The problem is I only have one docking station, and have one 30" at work, and one 30" at home.
I desperately need a solution so I can work at home.
Both monitors showup with the correct name and resolution in the windows 8 "screen resolution" page in the control panel.
I have also tried swapping out my displayport to mini-displayport converter.  Neither make any difference, and both work perfectly with any other laptop and my monitors.
The Nvidia control panel version is 7.5.800.  If I do "check for updates" it says "no updates available"
There is a simlar problem witht he audio through the monitor.  If I connect directly to the mini-displayport on the laptop, the sound dissapears for no reason for around 20s every 60s.  IF I plug it into the DP on the doc, sound never drops.
    Any ideas?

Are you using "Optimus mode" set in BIOS?  Or are you using "discrete graphics" set in BIOS (which will also allow you to install the latest retail nVidia driver to support the K2000M)?  Try "discrete graphics", install the latest nVidia driver (not from the Lenovo site for Optimus, but from the nVidia site for the K2000M), and see what happens.
Are you using a short miniDP adapter and also a regular cable?  Have you tried a simple straight-through single cable with the proper miniDP connector at one end (for the W530) and the proper other end as required by your monitor?  I suggest going with the single cable, and avoiding any adapter.

  • T41 screen suddenly goes blank - possible overheating?

Having an intermittant problem with my T41, and wondering if anyone has any idea as to the cause.
Most of the time, I use it in a docking station. Sometimes, after I've been using it for a while, the screen suddenly goes blank. There's still hard drive activity, as the light keeps on flashing, but the screen stays blank no matter what I do. The only way out is to do a hard reboot via the power button and, when I switch it back on again, the screen comes back, but usually some of the desktop icons have changed places. One time, the screen resolution had also been reduced to 800x600, and I had to reset it back to 1024x768.
I have noticed recently that, when it does this little screen shutdown trick, the fan doesn't seem to be operating and, if I remove the computer from the docking station, it does seem a bit warm underneath. Then, when I reboot the computer, the fan kicks in right away and seems to be pushing a lot of heat out of the vent in the side.
So does anyone know if this is an overheating issue caused by the fan not kicking in when it should, or could there be another cause? One thing that has me confused is that, according to the Windows fault reporting system, it says its a video driver fault and I should update the driver. So can anyone tell me just what the problem really is?
    Edit:
I've been able to find one of the manuals as a PDF, and it seems like the computer is unexpectedly hibernating due to the CPU overheating. Unfortunately, that's all it says, and doesn't give any advice as to how to fix the problem. Does that sound like a correct diagnosis?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Don't know why this topic has been marked as "solved" when it's still an ongoing problem - I certainly didn't mark it as such!
Installed the program you suggested, and ran a few tests. From those, it looks like the issue could be the CPU, not the GPU, that's been overheating and causing the hibernation. With the computer just idling, the CPU temperature reports about 35-38 degrees C, while the GPU sits around the 40-44 degrees C mark. Playing a HD flash video, the GPU temperature went up to around 50 degrees C, while the CPU went up to 69 degrees C. At that point, the fan hadn't kicked in, so I switched from Smart to Manual mode, at which point it started in Mode 7 and brought the CPU temperature back down.
I then ran the test again a few more times with different videos and, with Smart mode selected again, the fan did kick in automatically at around 66 degrees C on the CPU temperature, but only in Mode 1. This seem to just stabilise the temperature, not bring it down, and I had to go to Manual mode to get a higher fan speed.
Before I installed the fan control program, I don't think the fan was kicking in at all, as there was no sign of air coming out of the vent. The only time the fan did kick in was after the reboots, and then only for a minute or so. The program seems to show that both the CPU temperature sensor and the fan are working OK, but it appears that they aren't talking to each other properly. Any ideas why this could be?

  • Firefox crashes when I load any youtube video on the latest version, it not only crashes firefox but my whole computer goes blank and I have to restart, why is this?

Backstory: There are two possible events that could be causing this
1: At some point I may have followed a ''Tinyurl' link that consquently lead me to a youtube video, to which youtube worked perfectly fine before hand, and this is where i witnessed the first crash. Theories into whether this link, previously stated, may have done something to my system have been thought about, but the fact that youtube still works on the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer seems to present the idea of a virus or an error redundant. I own the latest Macfee antivirus software and Ccleaner(running the registry check) and have run them complete with disc defragment and scan disc error recovery along with an additional malware scanner. Nothing seems to have come up on anything. After doing all this, my last resort was System restore and this seemed to solve the problem, mainly because i had an earlier version of firefox. therefore i resisted updating for aslong as possible whenever it told me to update. but the otherday i thought i'd risk it again thinking it may have been a problem alot of people have been having and it would of been fixed, but sadly it hasn't. this lead me to google the problem and was advised to start firefox on 'safe mode' as there may have been a confliction between add ons or plugins with youtube or some thing like that, but sadly that hasn't worked either. The plugins i had installed with it were the ones firefox has told me to get, or recommended and the only two addons i had on firefox was Adblock plus (fanboy subscrip) and Noscript.
Details of what actually happens: go to a youtube link, video loads for about 2 seconds(both video and audio), screen freezes, and flashes maybe once with some small lines across the bottom half of the screen horizontally towards the right corner, then the screen goes blank and makes my laptop dorment, but still running, thus I restart my system.
Sadly now when I system restore there isn't a point far back enough before this problem. So its either i downgrade(which seems to be the only option) or simply stop using firefox, as internet explorer works perfectly fine. however running firefox with no scrip and adblock plus is the ideal browser customisation, which is why this is rather annoying.
so number 1 was the tinyurl theory and i must admit i was abit foolish to follow such a random link, but whats happened has happened.
2: basically there is a major disfunction with the latest firefox that has to with the addons i have included onto firefox and this seems to be causing a terrible effect on my system.
in a nutshell: firefox worked perfectly before upgrading to the new firefox and before i followed this link, the rest of my system is completely normal and virus and error free or so it says, Other browsers seem to work also. safe mode does not cure the problem.
Running on a customised Dell laptop, which is pretty midrange-toprange and hasn't been active long, so it has the general HD video card thats included in all Studio 15 Dell laptops.
    any help appreciated.
    cheers.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • When I am on a phone call and I double click the button to go to my home screen, then open another application (usually my calendar program, Calengoo), my screen goes blank and I am not able to return to either the app, the phone, or the home screen.

When I am on a phone call and I double click the button to go to my home screen, then open another application (usually my calendar program, Calengoo), my screen goes blank and I am not able to return to either the app, the phone, or the home screen. If I am speaking to a person, if they hang up then I am back to the phone application. If I'm leaving a message, I am unable to return to the phone screen to end the call, and have to wait until the other phone hangs up. I'm also unable to switch back and forth to look at my calendar if I'm calling someone about scheduling. This has only started happening since the most recent iOs update. I run into situations similar to this about once per day during the work week, as I use my phone is this manner quite often. While not life altering it is quite frustrating. Can anyone here help me figure out a way to avoid this? If it helps, I have noticed a general downgrade in overall performance starting two system updates ago (apps opening more slowly, closing unexpectedly more often, etc.). I have an iPhone 3GS with the latest OS update.
Thank you for any help or suggestions,
    Chris

You can check the notification settings for message.
    Settings>Notification Center>Messages>Alert Style
It should be on Banners or Alerts.
Settings>Messages> Turn on Imessage and send as SMS and below that "Blocked" to check if you have any numbers block might be blocking the message.
You can also do a hard reset by holding power and home till it restarts and release after seeing the apple logo.

  • Cisco IP Phone 7945-G or 7965-G screen goes blank randomly with SCCP firmware 9.2(3) on CUCM 8.6(2a)

    Hello everybody,
    I have the following situation:
A WAN VoIP network, with centralized call processing model (central site and few branches)
Cisco IP Phones 7945-G and 7965-G running SCCP
    Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.6(2a)
SCCP firmware Release 9.2(3) for the above mentioned hardware models
The problem that occurs randomly is that either when the firmware was SCCP firmware Release 9.2(1), or it was upgraded to SCCP firmware Release 9.2(3), approximately 5 Cisco IP Phones, the screen goes blank, the phone being still operational (but difficult to operate in such circumstances), and the problem persists until it is disconnected from PoE, and re-connected.
Please if possible, any solution to this problem is much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    Radu

    Hello  again,
In addition to  what I already mentioned, I would like to detail a few aspects, in order to be  more specific with this behavior:
    -          From the total number of Cisco IP  phones which is less than 1000, this behavior happened randomly, within 1 month  and 3 weeks
    -          Actually, it was a total number of 8  Cisco IP phones whose display went off, 4 being located in Headquarters, and  from the other 4, 3 were in the same Branch, and 1 in another  Branch
    -          Also, 7 IP phones are connected in  non-Cisco switches with PoE, and 1 IP Phone was power supplied from AC  adapter
    -          initially, all existing IP phones  had firmware Release 9.2(1) for 7945G and 7965G, and the mentioned behavior  happened with 4 IP phones
    -          then, for all IP phones, it were  upgraded to firmware Release 9.2(3) for 7945G and 7965G, but problem re-appeared  with other 4 IP phones
The only  solution that solved the issue for each IP phone was to disconnect the power  from the IP phones.
I hope that you  might help me on how to get solving this problem, and I am looking forward for  any useful idea or solution.
    Many thanks in  advance.
    Regards,
    Radu

  • "No Internet access" yellow icon on ThinkPad X230 after updating Intel PROSet wireless drivers

I have a ThinkPad X230 that began to display the yellow exclamation point icon for "No internet access" after I did a batch of updates.  It has an Intel Advanced-N 6205 wireless card and is updated to the newest BIOS.  I tried everything I could find on Google to try and fix the issue, and found no issues in these forums to users having an issue.  So after fighting with it for a day, I decided to wipe the system and reinstall Windows.
I loaded Windows 7 Enterprise X64 with SP1 and did not domain join the laptop, so it is totally untouched Windows.  and then installed the Intel wired networking drivers version 11.15.16.0, which were downloaded from Lenovo.  I then installed the Intel wireless network drivers version 15.03.1000.1637 which were also downloaded from Lenovo.  Everything is working fine at this point.  I then loaded TVSU 5.02.0011 to get all the other Lenovo software.  One of the updates offered was Intel wireless 15.6.1, so being careful, I selected only that update and installed it.  After a restart, the yellow icon is there, even though I haven't yet connected to any wireless network - it is in place for the wired connection too.  Uninstalling the 15.6.1 drivers would not make it go away.  Installing 15.03.1000.1637 again also doesn't make it go away.
A System Restore to revert to before the installation occurs does make the icon go away.
I did some more searching on Google and the Intel Community forums have a report of this same issue from a user on a Dell machine: http://communities.intel.com/thread/38498.  There is no solution posted as of yet.  I have posted my problem there now too.
Has anyone experienced this issue and is there any fix besides System Restore or a reformat if the new drivers get installed?  I expect the drivers made available via TVSU to be rock solid, this is why I follow what TVSU even if there are newer drivers from the manufacturer sometimes.
Myself I use a T420s with an Ultimate-N 6300 wirelss card, and the newest Intel drivers installed onto my machine without issue.  I also have a couple other X230 computers that I am pretty sure have the drivers as well already without problems.  So I am wondering if there is some sort of firmware issue with the particular wireless card, or something is causing the drivers to not install in the correct way.  Just my thoughts.
    Current: ThinkPad Tablet 2 | 64GB // ThinkPad T440s | i7-4600U | 12GB | 512GB SSD | FHD MT
    Previous: ThinkPad T420s // ThinkPad T410s

I deploy a lot of X230 laptops and have been dealing with this issue.  Since I cannot find any information about the cause and how to fix it I started looking more into it.  The "No internet access" yellow icon starts appearing after installing items from System Update.  So, with a new X230 I applied all Windows Update (which installed without issues) before going into System Update.  After doing the Critical and most of the Rcommended (don't care for Access Connections) I proceeded to the Optional updates which I installed one at a time.  When I installed the WiFi Driver for Intel cards 7(64), Version 15.6.1 and rebooted the system the yellow icon appeared with the "No internet connection" status.  Everything still works though, I can still connect to the internet.  Doing a driver rollback does not fix the problem.  I did a system restore from a restore point prior the last System Update and the yellow icon went away.  finished the rest of the Optional updates except the WiFi driver and all is well.  This is what I did and went through, not sure if it will be the same for everybody.  But Lenovo needs to look into that driver version.

  • ThinkPad X230 in Hand, First Thoughts Review

I'm the lucky recipient of an early ThinkPad X230, it's a review I got yesterday and have had about 24 hours to mess with now (well, I did sleep, so make that 16).  Happy to answer any questions, I'll copy and paste below much of what I wrote in the preview on LaptopReviews.com minus some of the images and video to be bandwidth friendly.
Earlier this week Lenovo announced the ThinkPad X230, a 12.5” screen ultraportable targeted at business buyers. While the X230 won’t go on sale via Lenovo.com until June 2012 (keep an eye on this X230 product page for availablility) we were lucky enough to receive an early review sample to try out. As most of you familiar with the ThinkPad brand know, change is generally slow from one generation to the next to keep the enterprise buying folks from getting all worked up. One thing that certainly almost never changed much was the keyboard. Until now that is.  The X230 and the rest of the ThinkPad line have adopted a new keyboard styling that uses an island style key layout and drops down to six rows of keys from seven. There are a few other changes and added features, the keyboard backlighting being my personal favorite, but for the most part the X230 is just an evolution of the X220 design wise and of course has updated internal components to boost performance.
    Keyboard Comparison with X220
Let’s jump right to the part a lot of people are interested in hearing about -- the keyboard.  Again, a video helps to show exactly what the visual differences are so we’ll show that first and then talk about the perceived usability differences:
ThinkPad X220 and X230 keyboard Comparison
The first concern I had was whether the spacing of the keys was the same or different enough to cause a problem getting used to the X230 keyboard.  I was also concerned that the travel distance and feel of the keys would be different.  Rest assured, despite the very different look, the keyboard is very similar in feel to previous generations and the typing differences were really only noticeable to me when I had both the X220 and X230 next to each other and I could test the difference.  Here is what I found to be different in terms of feel, at least as far as my perception goes:
The X230 keys seem to have a slightly lighter touch, you don’t have to push quite as hard to register a keystroke
The X230  key surface area is slightly larger, I don’t have calipers to measure this exactly, but you can see it’s the case.  This is partly why Lenovo is claiming the new keyboard makes typing more accurate.
The X230 keys felt slightly more slippery and not as textured as those on the X220
Keep in mind, those are just the perceived differences in feel.  The layout has changed from six rows to seven rows, which forces a repositioning of keys that could trip up users used to the old ThinkPad keyboard.  To name just a few:
The “Forward” and “Back” browser shortcut buttons above the left and right arrow keys are gone
PgUp and PgDn move from the top row down to above the left and right arrow keys
The Delete button has shrunk and moved further to the edge of the keyboard, which is almost impossible to reach without lifting the hand
Print Screen and Insert are both moved, the Pause button and Scroll Lock are gone
Home and End have been moved and are actually now more within reach of the pinky than before
All media key functionality using Fn + has been moved to the F1 – F12 function keys, this is a good thing and eliminates the scattered nature of media keys in previous generations
There are probably more differences in positioning, but those are the major ones.  I’ll also note that the Enter key is now black instead of blue and they’ve removed the “return arrow”.  In fact, a lot of the icons have been axed to make the look more clean, the arrows on the Shift key, Caps Lock and Tab keys are all gone.  It certainly does have the result of the keyboard looking more plain and clean.
The real test is of course whether your typing is affected by the changes.  I generally type at around 80 WPM so figured I’d do a typing test using this WPM online tool to see how I faired doing the test on the X220 and then the X230.  Look, I’m not here to make an advertorial for Lenovo but I got the exact same 76 WPM score on each notebook and was ever so slightly more accurate on the X230 where I made no mistakes.  Of course, that’s one trial run, but it’s all I had the patience for and figured it was enough to provide anecdotal evidence that most users should transition just fine.
ThinkPad X220 typing test: 76 Words per minute, one mistake made when I mistyped “M” instead of “N” for November (though there is such thing as Movember and it is a worthy cancer charity I might add)
ThinkPad X230 typing test: 76 Words per minute, exactly the same result as the X220 but no typing mistakes
Another new feature on the X230 is the keyboard backlight.  You can toggle between two levels of keyboard backlight brightness or use the ThinkLight positioned in the screen that shines down on the keys.  Here’s a video demoing how this looks and works:
And below is a picture of the backlight set at its strongest level:
Bottom line on the keyboard changes, the usability is still top notch and all of the essential keys such as alpha, numeric and common cursor movement keys are in the same location.  The biggest challenge with changes will be in regards to remapping your brain to find and reach the keys that moved such as Home, End and Delete.  The backlighting option is a definite improvement and recommended upgrade.
    Size and Weight
While the ThinkPad X230 weighs 2.96lbs when you use the small sized 4-cell battery, Lenovo isn’t changing its marketing to call this an Ultrabook.  The thickness ranges from 0.75-inches at the front to 1.05-inches at the back due to the slope.  The 1” thickness is fat compared to the 0.68” the upcoming ThinkPad X1 Carbon will have.  That under 3lbs of weight doesn’t hold for the standard 6-cell battery either, this review unit has a weight of 3lbs 7 ounces (3.44lbs).

    Thanks for the excellent review.
I am disappointed in the new keyboard choice, outside of the move to chiclet keys the move to 6 rows is just blasphemous.  As a user and owner of 10+ thinkpads, the x220 and t420s will be my last.
Lenovo may not even care as the general business consumer doesn't favor one keyboard style over the other, but legions of thinkpad fans will be left behind.  A sad state of things indeed.

  • Pavilion f1703 monitor goes blank 2 seconds after start-up

When the computer is turned on, the monitor only functions for a couple of seconds before it goes blank..power light shows it to be working.
If I turn the monitor off at the front power switch, and turn it back on, the same thing happens..2 seconds of normal then blank.
In the couple of days leading up to this, the screen had a slight "flicker" effect going on.
    All ideas greatly accepted!!

I am having the identical problem.  I hooked this monitor that a friend gave me and it worked great for several days.  There were no flickerings or any indications of a looming problem.  Then it started going blank after 2 secs and continues to do that.  I did see a warning about the "power saver", or something like that, was in operation.  Unfortunately, I can't get it to stay on long enough to go into the menue and see if there is anything I can change there.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello there, Prashanthds96.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting issues with an iPhone not turning on:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • 24" Widescreen LCD Acer goes blank

I have a 17" Macbook pro and a 24 inch widescreen LCD monitor by Acer (al2423w). I am trying to use both monitors in mirrored mode (lid up) using a usb mouse and the macbooks keyboard.
I have tried connecting the acer through the dvi-vga adapter and I've tried a direct dvi connection and the same thing happens with each - the acer works and then goes blank. Now I know the acer works because I used it as the primary display for my PC but for some reason when connected to my mac it works perfectly/beautifully/wonderfully for about 10 seconds... and then goes blank without any blinking error lights, or messages.
The monitor is detected, connected, powered, and even works and displays in mirrored mode but then for some reason stops. While it's working I can even change the resolutions and refresh rates without any problems.
I would greatly appreciate any explanations for this issue.

I reset the LCD monitors settings and all is harmonious and well.
