ThinkPad Yoga 12 System Update fails to install fixes

I have been having the famous floating cursor problem using OneLink Doc and external monitor, mouse and keyboard. So I decided to run System Update (5.06.0034) to see if anything appropriate would inbstall. SU downloaded 4 fixes, and I selected all to install. The fixes downloaded, installation began and all fixes immediately showed "installation failed".
Therer was a manual update available in the failure message, but clicking on it did not cause anything to happen.
The fixes displayed were
- Lenovo Power Management Driver 1.67.10.4002
- Lenovo Settings Dependency Package 2.3.3.41
- Installed camera Driver for Realtek 6.2.9200.10252
- ThinkPad BIOS Update (non-Vpro) 1.24.1.24
I went to downloads and downloaded and manually installed Lenovo Power Management Driver and Lenovo Settings Dependency Package (restarts required).
I ran SU and it showed only the BIOS update needed. I tried again to install and got the same failure.
I went back to downloads and the only BIOS update was 1.08, not 1.24.1.24. I tried to install it anyway and the install failed due to  "The process does not recognize this system. The process has been canceled."
I tried uninstalling SU and reinstalling and restart, I ran SU, downloaded and tried to install the BIOS and SU immediately displayed "installation failed".
So I have a couple of problems. SU is not working and I don't know where to look to try to determine the installation problem. The BIOS update info does not match up between SU and the downloads page.
Any ideas on where to look for the SU failure to install fixes? Do I need the BIOS?. I checked and my current BIOS shows as LENOVO GQET43WW (1.23), 1/21/2015.

  • System Update 3.14 install fails on action: SetVendorValue

    Hi, folks:
    I'm attempting to install System Update 3.14 for the first time on a 2004-vintage ThinkPad T42 type 2379-DXU. The immediate failure appears to be that the action "SetVendorValue" fails. I'm not sure what the underlying cause is. The installation terminates with an alert that installation failed and the system is unchanged; but in fact the System Update application is installed and there's an icon in my Start menu. When I try to run System Update, it displays an error message in front of the splash screen and quits.
    Details and log excerpts below. Can anyone figure out why the install is failing? How can I get the install to succeed and the System Update app to run successfully? Thanks in advance for any ideas.
    In the meantime, I'm going to try downloading individual drivers manually, to solve my underlying problem. But I'd sure like to have System Update on my side in the future.
    --Jim DeLaHunt, Vancouver, Canada
     Details* run the installer "systemupdate314-2008-5-15.exe".
    * installation proceeds through several steps. Shortly after the "Writing vendor value" status message appears, the installation fails with an error alert saying that that installer cannot complete and the system is unchanged.
    * in fact, there is now a c:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\ folder, and a System Update icon under Start menu -> All Programs -> ThinkVantage -> System Update.
    * clicking the System Update icon in the start menu causes the program to launch and fail. The splash screen appears, then an alert "System Update could not start properly [OK]". Clicking [OK] causes the program to exit.

    Well, the problem is solved, and System Update is installed and working.
    The root cause of the problem appeared to be that the registry directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE no longer extended "full control" permission to the Administrators user group on my machine. We fixed this by using regedit:
    Start... Run... regedit....
    select directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE, right-click, Permissions...,
    press Add... button
    enter SYSNAME\Administrators in the text area (SYSNAME is a placeholder for my actual machine name)
    OK... OK...
    Quit regedit
    We diagnosed the problem with the help of IT support from our employer. The problem was blocking installation of new anti-virus software. We had just removed old anti-virus and "internet security" software. Hmm, I wonder if the old security software removed this permission setting as a parting gift.
    Hope this is helpful for others who encounter the same symptoms.

  • 10.5.7 update failed to install

    The 10.5.7 update failed to install and I have got the following message:
    The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be installed.
    The following install step failed: run preinstall script for MacOSXUpd10.5.7.
    Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
    What might be the problem?

    I also have a problem with the disk permissions. Anytime I launch the 'verify disk permissions' I have got the same bunch of warnings:
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/CodeResources", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r-- .
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/PlugIns/DVD.frappliance/Contents/CodeResources", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r-- .

    Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/PlugIns/FRSources.frappliance/Contents/CodeResources", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r-- .
    Repairing disk permissions doesn't help: I've got the same warnings again and again.
    May be there is a connection between these two problems?

  • 6.0.1 Update  Failed to Install

    Has anyone else encountered this issue?
    My system:
    * Vista 64 Home Premium SP1
    * Single user/admin
    My Adobe Apps:
    * CS4 InDesign (6.0.0) Stand Alone (not part of a collection)
    * CS4 Web Premium
    Update process:
    * Download manual patch for 6.0.1
    * Extract from ZIP
    * Disable Anti-Virus
    * Run Setup
    Results:
    * InDesign 6.0.1 update "failed to install".
    Attempted resolution:
    * Disable UAC - no change
    * Safe Mode - no change
    * Download the update again in case it was corrupted - no change
    The Photoshop 11.0.1 update, part of the Web Premium collection, worked by using the exact same update process that failed for InDesign 6.0.1.
    Any suggestions?

    I have been trying to update to 6.0.1 for weeks.  No success.  I found the log.gz file as you suggested and opened in wordpad but the file is either encrypted or corrupt.  The date and time of the file is when i originally installed InDesign.  Nothing has been added either today or on previous attempts to update.
    I have tried to attach the file but as it's not on your list of allowed types it may not come with the message, so here is a sample:

  • Updater failed to install

    All,
    I am having a problem with the Adobe Updater.
    The following banner message is received on my Mac:
    A new version of the adobe updater is available for installation. Click OK to install it now
    Note: you may be required to authenticate in order to install
    When I attempt to install, the system refused the installation, giving the following message:
    Adobe updater failed to install
    Can anyone help with a suggestion on how to correct this?
    -Boijacks

    I ran into this same issue after a fresh install of CS3 under Leopard 10.5.6.  Here's what worked for me:
    After canceling the endless loop of Adobe Updater and it's "Adobe Updater failed to install" message, I did the following:
    I moved ~/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/Adobe Updater5 (which contains the old Adobe Updater version 5.1.0.1082) into the Trash.
    Create a new folder at ~/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/Adobe Updater5
    Now this next step is not completely detailed as I am trying to recall exactly what I did but I looked somplace in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Updater5/and found the freshly downloaded AdobeUpdater.dmg disk image which had a newer version of the updater instead of the originally installed 5.1.0.1082 and moved this into my fresh new folder at ~/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/Adobe Updater5.
    I then ran the new version of Adobe Updater and it started to install all the updated CS3 components.  This would not work directly off the disk image or at the wrong location.  I had to manually move the new updater app to ~/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/Adobe Updater5 before running it.
    If anyone tries this, please add/check the details of the paths.
    By the way, the tilde ~ in the paths above represent your /Users/username home directory.
    Hope this works for you,

    Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour

    Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
    See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

    Hi,
    to see the cause of Windows 8 update failures, we must look for error messages in the following log files:
    Please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy all files to your document folder, also copy the setupapi.dev.log from the folder C:\Windows\Inf, the "C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log" and the file "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log"
    to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it), zip all files into 1 ZIP and upload the zip to your SkyDrive [1] and post a link here.

    You are right. There are a lot more self-support tools available in Windows
    than in MacOS. All you ever get on a Mac is "That didn't work: -304998173".
    Thanks for your insights.

    The upgrade is not the 11.0.06, but that is an update. The upgrade is what
    you can purchase if you had a previous version of Acrobat (at least AA 9).
    The upgrade is substantially less in price than the full product. With the
    upgrade you also have to have the SN of the previous product available for
    the install. That is why I asked about the upgrade. Once you install AA XI,
    then going to 11.0.06 is a free update (updates are changes in the
    sub-version and are done quarterly or when there is a critical security
    issue).  You can often fix installations by running a repair. In Windows
    that is done either from Help>Repair or from the Control Panel. I do not
    know the equivalent of the Control panel in the MAC. In any case I am glad
    you got it fixed.

    I'm trying to update my Photoshop CS5, but continue to receive the same problem every time. The application manager update dialogue box simply states "some updates failed to install." There's no specific error code, but a link to contact support for further assistance. It doesn't take me to customer support, but does take me to a screen which states. "Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product." I've checked my account and the product serial number is associated with my account., so I don't see any problem.  I have not been able to find a resolution to this problem, so I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.  Thank you!
