Thinkpad Yoga - Clean install with Win 8.1 disc and embedded product key

Hello everyone,
I purchased a Thinkpad Yoga that comes along with Win 8.1 and embedded product key.
Will it be possible to plug-in an external drive and install Win 8.1 from a Win 8.1-disc? BUT I don’t want to use the key that comes with the disc, but the key embedded in the bios.
This is my girlfriends Windows 8.1 disc and license. Nevertheless I could use it for the clean install.
But I'm not sure, if the original key from my Yoga will work then.
Thanks
Hutson

I guy on Youtube made a rough tutorial.

In the comments he suggests, to download the Iso with anouther win-8.1-key - no matter which one - and to install the system clean. In his opinion the system will get the key from the hardware. He is writing, that there is just a universal iso. So it's no problem to download an iso with another key, even if your system is a Home-Edition and you download it with a Pro-Key.
I will try this.

  • HT1899 Bootcamp install with Win XP sp1a disc?

I have: 2.4Ghz macbook with NVIDIA 9400M, 4G ram and Lion OS, late 2008 model.  I'd like to install my copy of Win XP sp1a via bootcamp. Mac support tells I need XP sp2, is there a work around? (VMware won't support my graphics rendering needs)

For another thing, XP is not supported. As you can see from multiple posts yesterday and for last year.

  • Need to do a clean install of Win 7 on my HP Dv7 1464rw. Purchased it with Vista on it and it was up

Need to do a clean install of Win 7 on my Dv7 1464rw. I purchased this computer with Vista on it and HP sent me the upgrade for Win 7 as part of the purchase. Can I reuse these discs or do I need some other disc to do this? Also, Do I need to wipe the hard drive clean or will the install process do that?

Do you have the license key with the Windows 7 upgrade disk? If so you should be able to use it to format and reinstall.

  • How I do a clean install of Win 8.1

Since my initial post        "Why is option to create striped volume grayed out in disk management?"
I have seen numerous threads re doing a clean install of Win 8.1. So I'm re-posting the info I got from Puget Systems  http://www.pugetsystems.com/ when I RMA'ed the ZenBook back to The Egg and got a laptop that boots in 1.7 seconds and works.
Edit !That was time before any progs installed. Now that I everything on it's about 20 from hit restart to waiting on me enter P/W.
Regardless of your system the advice I got from PS before the system was even built here in the US should apply as I ordered it W/O an OS.
D/L Drivers from the systems Mfg. site. If it's a DIY Lego then from the Mfg. of products, i.e. chipset, video card, audio, etc.
    When Windows begins install;
    Choose Custom Install.
    Uncheck Let Windows load drivers.
Uncheck any other options you don't want as well. I unchecked about everything and yet*
    When OS is installed
Go into add/remove features and enable .NET Framework 3.5.
Restart Then load Drivers. As mentioned in other post I had already drivers Dl'd from Puget's site
and had in separate folder on flash drive.
This is by far the cleanest, best running Windows version I ever had on a system and have been installing since Win 95 A.
Hope this helps some of those who are having Clean Install issues.
    * When I started IE 11 my Favorites were already there.  ???? I had them Exported but not to Flash Drive yet. Does M/S have link to NSA?

    Hi,
Thanks for your sharing on how to clean install Windows 8.1.
I am not sure about what you mean about NSA, would you please give us the full name?
For the IE 11 favorite, if you use Microsoft account to log into this computer and this account is used on other Windows 8/8.1 computer with Sync settings open, the favorites will be automatically synced here.

  • How to do a clean install with lion after it is already installed?

how to do a clean install with lion after it is already installed?

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Weird problems after clean install on Win 7 64 bit

So I just built out a brand new machine with Win 7 64 bit and installed CS4 on it.  PS works great, super quick!  As I went through and tried to work on some websites last night, I found that the File/Open, File/Save and File/SaveAs options don't work?  When you first open Dreamweaver (or Flash - haven't tested anything other than PS/DW/FL) the initial opening screen you can click on new HTML doc for example but clicking Open... doesn't bring up the windows open/browse dialog box.  My DW install is all up to date and I tried to install over the top of it but that didn't help.  Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Thanks in advance for any insight or help you can offer!
    --J

I have been running Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7 64-bit without problems for over a month (new machine, not upgraded from a previous version of Windows). The only part that fails is the documented problem with selecting the site root in a new site definition (see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/478327).

  • How to install a clean install with leopard upgrade DVD!

Does somebody know how to do an clean install with a Leopard upgrade DVD?
I bought my MacBook for 1 week ago, and them said that i would get leopard sent later. And when i get it, its a upgrade cd that i cant install only leopard on my ny frsh hard-drive. *** apple?

First, there is no such thing as a "clean install" option in OS X. But the "cleanest" install is to start with a reformatted drive (using Disk Utility's "Partition" tab), followed by an install of the OS that will be cleansed of any traces of OS or file system corruption. (The "unclean" options, "Upgrade" & "Archive & Install" won't be possible, & the erase part of "Erase & Install" is at this point redundant.)
However, if you use Setup Assistant (which runs after rebooting) or Migration Assistant to bring over copies of old system components, applications, & settings, you may be reintroducing something "unclean" from the old versions.
This said, if your up-to-date disk is just an updater (nobody seems to know yet), you can do a "cleanest possible" install by following the above with your original Tiger Installer disk, letting it reboot & not importing anything during setup, & then following the instructions supplied with the up-to-date disk to upgrade. At this point, you may want to clone the startup disk for future reference, before adding back in your apps & user files by whatever method(s) you chose.

  • Clean install with 29$ single?

Can the 29$ box do a completely clean install with just the snow leopard disk? I currently have Leopard installed to the latest updates and XP on a BC partition.

Thanks, but I have no problem booting the DVD that came with the box. Only the upgrade DVD.
I called the Apple store and they told me to return the product. That might also explain why the upgrade process went so quick (17 minutes) but utterly painful afterwards with dozens of kernel panics).

  • Clean Install with Lion on SSD

    Hi,
Was wondering if anyone could provide me a step-by-step guide for a clean install with Lion on to a new SSD.
I have already self-made a Mac OS Lion Installation CD - will this self-made CD be the only CD I need for the clean install (or do I need to use the original CDs that came with my MBP purchase) The CDs that came with my MBP was the Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard (early 2011 model)
If the self-made Lion CD is the only CD I need - then my next question is how can I validate the OS version - I suppose there will be a content ID or some sort of key to ensure that the OS is a true copy? If a key is needed, how do I obtain that?
I was told that one can self-made a Lion Installation CD from a MBP with Lion OS on it and use the CD on all other MBP for upgrades to Lion - but again, there must be a license key to subsequent users, otherwise Apple would be losing money!
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Chih

    Hey Sam,
    Thanks for your response.
Your response prompt me for another question - let's say I have multiple MBP, if I were to upgrade each MBP's hard drive to a SSD.
Will I be able to log in to my App Store a/c and use the purchased Lion OS (I only had one license) to upgrade all my MBP?
    Thanks again.

I ordered Microsoft Office 2011 with my Macbook Air, but only the trial version came installed - and no product key for the full version was ever emailed to me or included in the shipment. Three calls each to Apple and Microsoft have not solved this and I am at wit's end. Each company blames it on the other - I don't care whose fault it is, I just want the product key so I can use Microsoft Office!  Please help.

You should have received a DVD in the box (with the MBA).

Call AppleCare (they need to send you a DVD, which has the Product Key printed on the sleeve).
