Thinkpad Yoga - Digitiser has inaccurate area

Just now I was in a meeting taking notes, and got to the edge of the screen.  There seems to be an area where the digitiser doesn't seem accurate.  I've attached an image that I put together in onenote using a ruler (some lines are a little wobbly where I slipped, but it clearly shows the distortion)
Is this a hardware defect, or is there something I can do to fix this?

Simon,
I've taken a look over at the NBR thread and see some others seem to observe something similar on some of their systems.  We'll look into this.
To aid our efforts, it will help to have some details.  Would you send me a private message with your contact information, and the type and serial number on the bottom of your system?
Thanks for bringing this up!

  • Thinkpad yoga digitiser nib not replacable?

    Hi all,
I've bought a thinkpad yoga with digitiser and when i tried to change the nib of the digitiser i can't seem to get it out. (i figure a felt tib or rubber tip might never scratch the screen and might give it a better feel)
I've tried the wacom tool for getting the nib out and even a swiss tool plier resulting in a ffed up nib still in place and me having to smoothen it with some sandpaper.
Was lenovo really that stupid to not make the nibs interchangeable or replacable? Kind of majorly dissapointed if it's not...

From the TP Yoga's FRU BOM: http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/yoga_fru_bom_20140319.pdf the digitizer stylus is FRU P/N: 04X6468
Looking at this page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&DocID=PD030464 the digitizer stylus carries a marketing P/N: 4X80F22110
You can use the FRU P/N to search the maintenance parts site: http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?promoName=pa...
Both numbers may help you search for 3rd party vendors.
    Hope this helps.

  • Silver edition, Thinkpad Yoga 14

Now that the pen version of the Thinkpad Yoga 14 has been released, I was wondering if anyone knows whether also a silver (instead of black) version is expected? The Thinkpad Yoga 15 is also offfered in silver, so I was wondering whether the same can be expected for the Thinkpad Yoga 14?

That's right , the track pad is back to buttons.  some people hated the present one.
I still cant find a £ price in the UK but its ok iv bought the 15s should ship this Thursday.
A word of warning dont belive a word of lenovo ship times , I have had 3 delays and will have waited 8 weeks for my machine iv it ever turns up?  I think they just put them up for sale before they even exist..

  • So curious about the digitiser thinkpad yoga

Hey so for about a month now Ive been obsessed with these laptop hybryds specifically with the digitizers and pressure sensativity. As I do lots of digital drawing and arty stuff on the computer, the idea of being able to carry around something like that at such an affordable cost really excites me.
So after doing lots of research on the subject I found that the most popular and known seemed to be the microsoft durface pro, and obviously I was skeptical about the whole n trig thing but so many reviews stressed that there was little difference between them and wacom so I decided to buy the surface pro 3.
I was dissapointed with the stylus, I found that my galaxy note works so much nicer and their technology come from wacom.
I sent it back after a few days as I realised it was for me, the thinkpad yoga I have recently ordered fromt the states at a really good price for the 8gb i7 model with the pen and diitaser.
Im wondering if anyone knows many artists who use this device for drawing or photoshop? Im going to be studying animation later this year so Im hoping everything works okay, there isnt all that much information about it that I can find compared to the surface pro 3.. Im really exited about it anyway.
Does anyone know how lenovos thinkpad yoga usibility for their wacom digitser compares to samsungs with their galaxy note line? thanks

Since posting this question, I did a couple tests.
It appears (not sure why) that the motion scaling effect loses some detail at times. I had written a sentence using quotes. For some reason, the quotes were partially cutoff on the screen when scaling with the Motion Tab, but did appear when using the Distance or X Scale function under the Controls Tab.
Distance and X Scale it will be.
    Curious.

  • Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).
Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.
I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.
Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.
However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:
    1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.
    2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.
    3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.
    4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work.
I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup.
    Any help please?
    Thank you.

Just when I was happy that major issues have been resolved by constant updating, I am now experiencing this frightening problem. Mostly during startup, and lately in the middle of working, the screen freezes, shows very damaged image (like TV noise), produces the most unpleasant sound through the speakers and nothing works. I need to restart and hope that it will be ok. Sometimes it requires 2 or 3 restarts, going to safe-mode and returning back to get the issue resolved.
This has happened three or 4 times within 24 hrs. I searched in the forum and for another model it was suggested that epresscache might be the cause. I disabled the service, but the problem reappeared even then.
    Any help please:
This is what appears on the screen when the computer freezes and produces loud unpleasant noise sound.

  • Need help with warranty service on ThinkPad Yoga

Sorry for the seemingly angry headline but I am quite irritated at this point. Around three weeks ago I lost one of the rubber feet off my Thinkpad Yoga 2. After looking on Amazon, the Lenovo store and on Ebay I tried to ask here for advice around two weeks ago but I still have not received an answer (I don't know if this forum is run by Lenovo mods or by a Lenovo "community" of some sorts). I saw a similar question for missing feet on the S1 but the OP had not received an answer either.
Yesterday another rubber foot came off so now both rubber feet on the back are missing thereby also partly blocking the air intake (I will glue it back on!). I therefore decided to call Lenovo to get some new ones. They put me through to IBM customer service which told me that it is not possible to buy rubber feet separately so in order to get two new rubber feet I have to buy a new base cover for the mere price of €80.50 which is just taking the piss out of people, especially when my laptop is 6 months old and still under warranty.
The rubber foot which came off yesterday was so badly glued that it was almost a joke! Since I bought a laptop which has **bleep**ty rubber feet I have to buy a new bottom cover for €80 in order to solve the problem? If that is not taking the piss out of your customers than please tell me what is?

    Hi Mark,
Sorry for the angry rant above. Thanks for the reply and thank you for looking into the matter.

  • Thinkpad Yoga microphone not working

I've just recently recieved my brand new Thinkpad Yoga, and everything seems to be ok except the microphone. Under Recording Devices of Windows 8.1, the meter is showing no activitiy even with the boost and volume turned right up. Apps like Skype etc are showing no audio being received either. I've uninstalled the audio drivers completely and reinstalled which has made no difference. The driver reports that everything is ok too. I ran through the windows audio troubleshooting tool which reports no issues as well though it is clearly not working. Any suggestions of have I received an expensive duff laptop?

Hi! I bought my Thinkpad yoga in December last year and I didn't recognise that my microphon isn't working (because I usually use an external headset) since I tried to call somebody at skype and it says "Problem with your recording device". I think it is the same problem as yours, because the microphone is recognised but I don't get any input.  Did you find an solution for this? I don't wanna sent my notebook in because I need it daily for work :/.

if you type ThinkPad Yoga in the search box, and click on ThinkPad Yoga 12 in the result list, you will get an error, it has been going on for a while, probably a bug in Lenovo's database, it happens every once a while.  submitting ticket to their web admin usually doesn't help, i have tickets closed saying it is fixed and it wasn't, haven't bother for a while.
Anyhow, the workaround is to use the Machine Type for search instead, you can get to the page, e.g. 20DK or 20DL would get you to

  • Thinkpad Yoga 12 20CD extreme fan noise

    Hi,
Last week, I had my Thinkpad Yoga 12 serviced, as it didn't boot anymore. The whole interior got replaced. Since then, the fan noise is really unbearable. It was the same when I initially bought the machine, but then, a BIOS update (don't know which anymore) fixed it. It's a loud high-pitch noise, like a whissle.
I need urgent help, my collegues are complaining of the noise.
    Best regards,
    Jeroen

Well here I am on the new thread as well - and like heck the issue was resolved on the old thread. As mentioned before by myself and others on the other thread, I would update the BIOS, the fan would work for a while, then it would stop again until I updated the BIOS yet again.HOWEVER, thinking on this, and a variety of other problems I've been having with the TP Yoga (a whole lot - such buggy software), I remembered from my T61 days that the Lenovo System Update software is pretty hit and miss with finding updates. So I went to the Lenovo downloads page for the TP Yoga and indeed found a lot of software not passed onto me by the System Update.Amongst these was (TA-DA !) a utility "Lenovo Fan Test for Windows". I thought it would be useful to install in any case to test if the fan was operating properly (it was not part of the standard suite of diagnostic tools provided on my computer).Anyway since I installed it my fan has worked !!! - but only when my computer is plugged in, though this I believe is because I am using Lenovo Power Optimized (Lenovo Power Manager was another software on the site not provided to me via System Update) which I believe relies on passive cooling (throttling back processor) when only battery power is available. But now TpFan works all the time, though only in smart mode, and when I plug in the power to stream a video the computer doesn't reach boiling point and then shut down.Interesting. My fan diagnostic comes up as unavailable...

  • Thinkpad Yoga wakes up on its own after going to sleep blaming lid if wifi was enabled

Recently I've noticed that my Thinkpad Yoga (20CD00B1US) keeps waking up on its own.
    powercfg lastwake returns
    Wake History Count - 1
    Wake History [0]
    Wake Source Count - 1
    Wake Source [0]
    Type: Device
    Instance Path: ACPI\PNP0C0D\2&daba3ff&2
    Friendly Name:
    Description: ACPI Lid
    Manufacturer: (Standard system devices)
It happens either if lid was kept open and I used power button to put it to sleep or if I just close the lid. As soon as I do that I can see red LED goes on and off slowly so I know it is sleeping. However within 5 minutes or less, I see that red LED on top of "i" constantly lit.
    If I do powercfg -devicequery wake_armed , I get
    Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
That is really odd. I have WPA2 (PSK) wireless network, and I'm confident other devices are not that smart to send any WOL packets (or whatever it is called for wireless). Also I have AMT and other stuff disabled in BIOS. Intel Smart Connect has Remote Wake set to OFF, Keep Data Fresh is OFF as well. The problem goes away if I turn flight mode (turn off wifi) before sending PC to sleep.
Does anybody else experience similar behavior and what can I do to prevent waking it up without flipping wifi switch? It is so strange that the lid is at blame while the problem is somehow related to wireless adapter.
P.S. Installed BIOS version is 1.05 (not the latest 1.06). All essential updates are installed.

You may wish to check the WNIC's properties in Device Manager to see if Allow this device to wake the computer under Power Management is selected. If so, deselect to see if your issue is resolved.

  • Unable to set asset tag number in bios 1.17 on Thinkpad Yoga S1

Hi I have a bunch of Thinkpad Yoga Machine Type 20CD002UUS and I've been trying to set the asset tag in the bios.  According to support I can use this tool: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
It was working great on a bunch of machines and then just stopped.  I realized the only difference was the bios version.
On the ones that WORKED the bios is 1.16, the ones that DO NOT WORK are bios 1.17.
Has anyone has this issue?  It doesn't say anything about the BIOS version being an issue, but it's realy annoying.

  • Thinkpad Yoga crashes almost every day

A few weeks ago my 4-year old laptop started crashing a few times every week, so I decided to get a TPY. I received a 20CD000MMH (I5, 8 Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD+16Gb M.2 SSD) with windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit) on the 20. Feb and since then the longest time it has kept running is less than 48h. I've been downloading both recommended and optional  (12. Feb BIOS update was optional!) Windows and Lenovo's System Updates every day, sometimes twice a day: after a crash System Update usually wants me to reinstall the LAN driver. I've reinstalled Intel's graphics driver several times over as well. For example yesterday screen brigthness was stuck at max after a BSOD, so at least it seems sometimes System Update is right in it's reccomendations.
Currently I have 5 files in the Windows minidump folder, about as many BSODs did not result in any. I've also done 2 resets after discovering in the morning that the computer is almost too hot to hold and won't shut down. Fortunately those have not recurred since disabling "turn off display" last week and checking every time I go to sleep that the computer really is off.
I haven't found many posts from other people who have this many crashes - I'm starting to feel I'm missing something obvious or have a really, really bad example of a TPY. At least there are no ghosting issues, although the SSD worked for caching for only a single glorious day of sub 20 sec. boots. Now I'm back to 1min+...
Does anyone have any advice, besides returning it? The only thing I think I haven't tried yet is messing with the virtual network adapter (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Thinkpad-Yoga-not-waking-up-after-sleep/td-p/1348... as I'm afraid of permanently losing the network connection (which has been working fine) or something and I haven't foud any real instructions.

And an update about my TPY also: my local Lenovo service couldn't find any hardware or software issues and it did not crash when it was there for two and a half days. They barely used it though. They did suspect the problem might have something to do with Lenovo and Microsoft programs being incompatible (both have power managers, for example) while running simultaneously. We decided to test software issues by having them reinstall Windows (on a 128 Gb M.2 SSD, which I had bought a few days before as I was sick and tired of the barely functional SSD caching) and by me avoiding any and all updates besides antivirus definitions. So far I've had one crash in 3 days, although it was not a BSOD. It just freezed up while watching a video and I had to reset it with a pin. So things have gotten better, especially considering I now can start using the computer in less than 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes after a crash. It's still not good though and there seem to be some memory issues: when I wake up the computer or restart Windows the setting keep changing for no reason. So far the desktop background has changed color, scaling goes from 125% (which I prefer) to either 100% or 150% and the mouse pointer size changes. Also I've gotten some memory errors (displayed too briefly to write down) when making changes to the account that require me to log off. I'll keep it for a few days and look for additional problems but it looks like I'm going to have to have the motherboard replaced...

  • Thinkpad Yoga - screen wear when using the pen

I've been using penabled laptops for about 8 years now and bought a ThinkPad Yoga about 10 month ago.
The pen turned out to be disappointing - it's a lightweight job reminiscent of the pens they include with Samsung Note and like phablets rather tha a proper full size Wacom pen.
Just like other people I was also disappointed by the non removable plastic sheet protector on the screen in place of proper Gorilla glass screen cover.
But well, overall, apart from the awful touchpad, it was a decent laptop and I've been always happy with my previous Thinkpads, so I kept it.
Now, I'm using the pen a lot, incliding for scrolling. It turned out that the nib is not replaceable and that the plastic sheet protector on the screen is not hard enough to resist wear from the included pen - after 10 month of use it's pretty badly worn, especially in the scrolling area on the right.
I've never had this issue with my previous penabled tablets, even after 3-4 years of use, so I must say I'm rather disapponted at Lenovo selling this as a penabled laptop when the screen could not stand up to daily use with the included pen.
Does anyone else have this issue? Should I send it back to Lenovo to get the protective layer replaced while it's still under warranty?

I had this very problem with my Yoga S1 display screen. The anti-glare foil/protector became scratched by the digitizer pen. After reading a bunch of posts about removing this film layer, it looked easy enough, so I decided to JUST DO IT.  My steps:
I grabbed a sharp razor blade and started in the corner where the "Lenovo" logo is placed (bottom left). Very gently, I slid the blade edge under the film being careful not to dig, pry, or lift the blade any more than necessary -- just keep is as flat as possible and glide slowly about 1/2" or so making an equilateral triangle shape. The corner of the film will lift up losing its adherence and, in my case, I experienced zero damage.
I elected to continue sliding the blade along all four edges only 1/8" or so deep - just to make sure that the film was lifted across the entire perimeter. No problems whatsoever - smooth as silk.
I went back to the starting corner and slid the blade a little further (approx. an inch) so that there would be a triangular section large enough for my fingers to grab without cracking or breaking the film layer.
I began pulling from that corner slowly and gently making sure that my other hand was resting on the glass as a brace. Note that you should pull level with the screen not upward. I did not use a blow dryer and, as it turned out, it wasn't necessary.
When I got to the point  where one edge of the film was about at the center of the short width, I started pulling down that side until I reached the opposite corner.
I then continued pulling lengthwise working from edge to edge, then center, always keeping my other hand pressing lightly on the display screen glass (for leverage). If you want to avoid palm prints, wear a soft glove or put a microfiber cloth under your hand.
In no time at all, the entire sheet of film was removed in one piece - no cracks, breaks, or other problems.
There was no glue residue on the glass, so I just took a microfiber cloth and rubbed it to a gorgeous shine.
I fired up the laptop and was amazed at the extra clarity and color -- and NO SCRATCHES!
Is there additional glare? Yes, of course, but I just tilt the screen to avoid it as I do with all my other devices.
I started working with the digitizer pen and, thus far, I see no evidence that it will scratch the screen surface which, I have been advised, is gorilla glass.
This entire process took less than 15 minutes. It has taken me longer than that to write it up!
I would be happy to answer any questions if there are any. Good luck!
    Ken

  • ThinkPad Yoga: Needs a better keyboard & quiet trackpad

While I love the protection of the keyboard on the ThinkPad Yoga, I really hope future versions include more key travel. The current keyboard is frustrating.
The trackpad is LOUD.  Really? VERY LOUD. Distracting to the passenger on the plane next to me. He asked if I had a broken key.
Fantastic machine, but the keyboard and trackpad need work.
    JIM

    Hi Jim,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Thanks for your feedback regarding ThinkPad Yoga and I appreciate the thoughts shared.
While I think Lenovo still has an amazing build quality and the machines are tank-like in durability, people make comparisons within the same series. Many people have favorite features or design elements on a particular model, and because they value that, the design directions for new models may be seen as better or worse. Hopefully, our engineers will take the suggestions to concern while designing upcoming machines.
Regarding the trackpad clicking noise, Check if the sound is mechanical from the device itself and not related to the speakers at all.  If it is mechanical, possibly something is loose under the touchpad.
I strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.

  • Thinkpad Yoga: Strange honking sounds and audio/video glitches

    WARNING: LOUD VIDEO EXAMPLES
I have a Thinkpad Yoga, type 20CD with Windows 8.1, and when I'm running some white noise to help me concentrate, I get these strange honking noises that are quite disruptive. Even worse is that when I'm trying to watch a video on youtube, the honking noise occurs and this seems to lead to quick stalls in the video as well (note: the major stall in the middle of this video may just have been a bit of lag, I meant to highlight the minor stalls like the one that occurs at around 2 seconds). Actually, it seems that the honking causes the entire system's video to stall (e.g. cursor stalls, clock stalls, etc)
I've found only one other thread dealing with this issue and it wasn't resolved.
Addressing the suggestions brought up in the linked thread:
    1) The problem occurs regardless of if I'm using the laptop's built-in speakers or my headphones. I don't see any reason to hook it up to my TV and check HDMI out.
    2) Yes, problem persists with headphones.
    3) The problem occurs whether I'm using the lowest quality or the highest quality audio.
    4) It's the whole system, not just one application.
    5) The microphone has nothing to do with it. Enabled or disabled, the problem still persists.
I've updated my audio drivers but this hasn't done anything to mitigate the problem.
Strangely enough, what does help is turning off my WiFi (i.e. Fn + F8). When the honking is occuring, I can switch the wireless card to airplane mode and the problem immediately goes away. I've read somewhere that this may be because of poor grounding on the audio card, meaning that the antenna is possibly picking up radio signals.
Are there any possible solutions to this problem?

Audigy shares IRQ with IDE controller and firewire controller. This is not good.
NOTE: I suppose you're running your PC on "Standard PC" -mode (since IRQ's >5 not showing). If so, you can try to assign IRQ for the PCI slot, Audigy is installed, manually from BIOS. See your motherboard manual page 4-26.
Can you check if your PC is running as "Standard PC" and not as "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" (Device Manager --> Computer). Make it "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" --> you get more IRQs (virtual) in use.
NOTE: You may need to reinstall OS to get this done.
Also you may need to enable APIC mode on BIOS.
    How To:
    A) Go to 'Device Manager' a short cut to get there is "Right Click" on the My computer Icon on your desktop (Control Panel --> System --> Hardware),
    B) Next click on 'Computer', then double click on 'Standard PC'. Then select 'Driver' and then 'Update Driver'.
    C) At this point you will see a screen pop up asking you to do this "Automatically" or Select 'Display a list of the known drivers for this device', - Choose this option.
    D) Next you will see - 'Show all hardware of this device class'. Now you can select "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" in the list shown in the window to the right.
