ThinkPad Yoga Ghosting Probleme - 20CD0001GE

Hey! LG Hasel

Seems to be easy.
Just contact your local support. They should have some official support in Kuwait I hope.
They have sent the courier to collect the laptop from home. I had to wait about 4 weeks before the LCD replacement panel came to my country (Poland) but AFAIK it is possible to call RMA, report the problem and then wait till they get the replacement for you. The procedure should not take more than few days then. Mind to backup all your data beforehand because the official service used to reinstall Windows from scratch.
Regards,
P.

  • Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

Admin Note: This thread has been reorganized for escalation purpose -  using ajpot's info for escalation since he was the first to respond to my request of collecting information.
I've got the ghosting issue on my yoga as well.  It was OK for the first few weeks (no noticeable ghosting at all) but now it only takes around a minute of having something on screen for ghosting to appear when switching to something else.
I'm in the process of sending my yoga in for repair as I'm experiencing some other issues, so I've asked them to repair the screen as well.  From what I've read, it's likely they won't be able to fix it (in which case I'll be asking for a refund) but I'll see how it goes.
    Machine: ThinKPad Yoga
    Machine Type Model: 20CD-CT01WW
    Date manufactured: 3rd December 2013

As amirvf mentioned this is a common issue and there is an active discussion about it over at http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo/731068-lenovo-thinkpad-yoga.html Here is a quick recap:TPY uses a 12.5" LG Philips panel that has really, REALLY bad case of image retention (ghosting)The ghosting is not permanent and is actually specific to the way LCD panels work and present on all panels, but usually it's so minor that it is not noticeable to the naked eye. In case of those LG Philips panels, however, the effect is VERY noticeable.Lenovo has a page explaining the general issue: http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/detail.page?DocID=HT051485The easiest way to check for this is via http://www.marco.org/rmbp-irtest.html (this is a test that was made for MBPro that had ghosting issues, but it works great for testing TPY too)The same panel is used in Dell XPS 12 and there is a long thread on Dell forums complaining about the issue: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19497269.aspxThe problem is inherent to the process/chemistry used in the panels and cannot be solved via software/driver update. (Although some support representatives will direct you to partial solutions that flash different colors and can alleviate the issue but only marginally). To fix this issue panel manufacturer (LG Philips) would have to modify it's tech process and a replacement panel would have to be installed. The bad news are that currently there is no solution (AFAIK). They can swap your panels to your heart's delight, but currently there are not panels available that do not exhibit the issue (You should note, however, that the issue is usually less pronounced on a new panel and is gradually amplified over a course of first several weeks, so if you have on-site support and if you/Lenovo are willing, you could theoretically swap your panels every two weeks or so to approximate a real solution). Also note that the market for 12.5" panels is relatively small and there is no real competition, so there is no strong incentive for LG Philips to fix anything (XPS 12 has been suffering from this for over a year now, even through a model refresh)The good news are that Dell has finally acknowledged the issue and are saying that LG Philips has fixed the panels and new batch is coming around February, plus some people have reported that their newly bought XPS 12 does not exhibit ghosting. So, assuming this is indeed so, new panels should trickle down to TPY owners too sometimes. I'd love to see an official acknowledgement/response from Mark on this...

  • Thinkpad Yoga Wlan Probleme mit Wlan im Tablet mode

    hallo,
    mfg

  • Thinkpad yoga sound probleme

    Hallo,
    Matthias
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was having sound issues (cracking and popping) as well issues with audio on WiDi until I stopped the program Discovery.exe using Task Manager.  I removed the program Lenovo EMC Storage Connector (which is what is called) using the Control Panel.  Since then no more popping and audio issues.  No promises that is your issue but it was mine.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga Camera problem

Hi all, I had my screen replaced under warranty a few months ago due to the retention problem, after I got it back I noticed the webcam wasn't working I didn't put much thought into it and thought i had to update drivers since it had been replaced. Now I have come to get to the bottom of the problem and realised its looking like a hardware problem as windows reports the camera is not connected in device manager and no tricks seem to get it working. Looking at other posts it seems that it may be an issue withe folding design of the yoga putting stress on the connecting cables. Either that or it was not re-connected properly during the warranty repair which seems to make more sense..... Unfortunately my warranty has now expired (a couple of months) so it leaves me in a terrible predicament, does anyone have any ideas or anyone from Lenovo able to help me?  Thanks Steve

Looking at the webcam area now I think they have forgotten to put a webcam back in! has anybody got a close up picture of the webcam "hole" I can compare as it looks like there is either nothing there or the lens is like a pinhole........

  • Probleme mit Thinkpad Yoga

    Hallo,

Was lernen wir?

  • ThinkPad Yoga - BitLocker- / TPM-problem

    Hi everybody,
I got a very strange problem which I was unable to solve yet:
My ThinkPad Yoga won't work with BitLocker.
After initiation of the "BitLocker system test", it boots to the blue "BitLocker screen" - still, the PIN which was set before is not accepted. After cancellation of the test, Windows 8 (Windows 8.1 Update 1) states that the test failed, because the TPM could not be written.
While doing some troubleshooting, I recognized that BIOS states the TPM being in "MFG Mode" (= manufacturing mode?); this might be caused by a motherboard change done by the Lenovo service approx. 1 month ago.
    My question is:
Does anybody know how to make the TPM leave "MFG mode" or any other solution to this problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    David

  • Thinkpad Yoga BIOS Update Problem after installing Windows 10

Hi all, I've been reading tonnes of threads here trying to solve my problems (which seem to keep getting worse) to no avail. I'm reaching out to anyone that can suggest some help before I end up bricking my yoga by accident or running it over on purpose. I'll give you a timeline of the events. The machine in question is a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12.5" 20CD-0032USIntel Core i5 4200U 1.60GHz Processor4GB Ram128GB SSDWindows 8.1 64 Bit preloaded (recently upgraded to Windows 10) So the saga begun just a short two days ago. I had some spare time at home and decided to download and install my free upgrade to Windows 10. I backed up all of my important documents etc to OneDrive as I intended on performing a clean install. Said clean install went flawlessly with Windows 10 installing the first time with no issues or errors. Since I had performed a clean install, all my previous apps, including the stock Lenovo apps, had been deleted. I had anticipated this and only really desired to reinstall the app that automatically adjusts the screen orientation when folding the cover back. So in an effort to find this app and any Windows 10 related updates that may be available I went to support.lenovo.com and used the handy Lenovo Bridge app to automatically detect my hardware and suggest relevant updates. While combing through the suggested software I noticed a BIOS update that noted added support for Windows 10. How great, I thought, that Lenovo would have a BIOS update ready so quickly once 10 became ready for mass consumption. I went ahead and downloaded the exe version (not the bootable CD due to the lack of CD drive on the Yoga) and ran the BIOS update. As I ran the update the laptop was plugged in, and no errors were presented, a success message appeared and indicated a reboot was necessary, after a couple seconds the system rebooted itself. Enter nightmare level 1. As soon as the system rebooted, I fired up IE about to look for more updates and......BSOD stating that there was and issue with a driver, after another reboot BSOD again with a completely different file name stating driver file missing or corrupt. Sorry I didn't write any of the file names or errors down. At this point I'm thinking that something is not jiving here between the BIOS and OS. So I tried running repair, and recovery and each time I would end up with a BSOD of some design. It was at this point I made a USB with the Windows 10 x64 ISO from Microsoft in an attempt to run the repair utilities from the USB. Again to no avail. Enter nightmare level 2 After attempting multiple tries at recovering Windows 10 and getting multiple BSOD's through the process I decided to use my Windows 10 USB to simply reformat my hard drive to eliminate any traces of my now apparently corrupt OS and do a fresh install of Windows 10. This appears to have been a significant error on my part. Now I have no OS (BIOS is still intact so at least I think I have a not-bricked motherboard) and everytime I try to boot Windows 10, or 8.1 for that matter, from a brand new USB stick I get constant BSOD's.Sometimes I get as far as the Preparing installation files 22% but am interrupted by a BSOD error at some point. So I am pleading for some help here. To me it seems like the BIOS update was the issue. I was not smart enough to have checked the BIOS version before updating so that I would know what to roll back to safely. What would you all recommend for a rollback and how do I go about doing one with no OS on the machine. I know I'm asking for a tl;dr here but appreciate any advice offered. I really dont want to get to nightmare level 3, which I guess would be a bricked laptop and a bill for a new motherboard or laptop. The BIOS I currently have is GQET45WW (1.25) -Garrett

Thanks for the reply ColonelONeill, It turns out that Lenovo uses an obscure PERL disk image called "eltorito". As such the directions in the link you provided did not work as most common tools (WinZip, 7zip, and WinRAR) cannot extract the image file from an eltorito iso file.  I instead just bucked up for a $50.00 Asus USB CD drive and burned the iso for version 1.25 and 1.24 onto discs. I then disabled the setting in the BIOS that prevents rolling back to a previous version and flashed to 1.24 from the disc. While this appeared to go successfully, as soon as I tried to boot from my Windows 8.1 CD I start receiving BSOD's again during installation. I then used the CD with 1.25 to go back to where I was in case it was simply a bad BIOS update at the time. Most of the BSOD's are driver related (qlfcoei.sys) which I don't understand since there is no OS other than what is on the bootable CD (or USB I've tried both) Is there anyone with a stable install of Win 8.1 x64 or 10 x64 running on a 20CD0032US that can tell me what version of BIOS they are running? My next step is to go back to a version that someone else can verify is working. Thanks again for any help.

  • Problem with Thinkpad Yoga screen

Some days ago I received a new Thinkpad Yoga. My problem is that the screen is not manufactured very well. The left bottom corner is ~ 1 mm standing out of the case. It seems that it is not glued very well. If I press the corner into it it remains there for some time. But after some minutes it rises again. It's not so large but I can lift it with my finger nails.
After having a phone call with Lenovo support they told me that the dealer is responsible to replace it. My dealer tells me that Lenovo has to handle this.
What should I do? Nobody feels responsible? Is there a special glue available so that I fix it myself?

well, I thought they would need to do that. but Lenovo support just told me that they are not responsible to "repair" or replace such flaws. They do this only in the case of defects.
I'm really angry. I paid EUR 1600 for this pc. EVen more than for different apple notebooks. And I don't think that I would have those troubles with Apple. Lenovo was always a product for business users, I'm very disappointed ...

  • Thinkpad Yoga crashes almost every day

A few weeks ago my 4-year old laptop started crashing a few times every week, so I decided to get a TPY. I received a 20CD000MMH (I5, 8 Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD+16Gb M.2 SSD) with windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit) on the 20. Feb and since then the longest time it has kept running is less than 48h. I've been downloading both recommended and optional  (12. Feb BIOS update was optional!) Windows and Lenovo's System Updates every day, sometimes twice a day: after a crash System Update usually wants me to reinstall the LAN driver. I've reinstalled Intel's graphics driver several times over as well. For example yesterday screen brigthness was stuck at max after a BSOD, so at least it seems sometimes System Update is right in it's reccomendations.
Currently I have 5 files in the Windows minidump folder, about as many BSODs did not result in any. I've also done 2 resets after discovering in the morning that the computer is almost too hot to hold and won't shut down. Fortunately those have not recurred since disabling "turn off display" last week and checking every time I go to sleep that the computer really is off.
I haven't found many posts from other people who have this many crashes - I'm starting to feel I'm missing something obvious or have a really, really bad example of a TPY. At least there are no ghosting issues, although the SSD worked for caching for only a single glorious day of sub 20 sec. boots. Now I'm back to 1min+...
Does anyone have any advice, besides returning it? The only thing I think I haven't tried yet is messing with the virtual network adapter (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Thinkpad-Yoga-not-waking-up-after-sleep/td-p/1348... as I'm afraid of permanently losing the network connection (which has been working fine) or something and I haven't foud any real instructions.

And an update about my TPY also: my local Lenovo service couldn't find any hardware or software issues and it did not crash when it was there for two and a half days. They barely used it though. They did suspect the problem might have something to do with Lenovo and Microsoft programs being incompatible (both have power managers, for example) while running simultaneously. We decided to test software issues by having them reinstall Windows (on a 128 Gb M.2 SSD, which I had bought a few days before as I was sick and tired of the barely functional SSD caching) and by me avoiding any and all updates besides antivirus definitions. So far I've had one crash in 3 days, although it was not a BSOD. It just freezed up while watching a video and I had to reset it with a pin. So things have gotten better, especially considering I now can start using the computer in less than 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes after a crash. It's still not good though and there seem to be some memory issues: when I wake up the computer or restart Windows the setting keep changing for no reason. So far the desktop background has changed color, scaling goes from 125% (which I prefer) to either 100% or 150% and the mouse pointer size changes. Also I've gotten some memory errors (displayed too briefly to write down) when making changes to the account that require me to log off. I'll keep it for a few days and look for additional problems but it looks like I'm going to have to have the motherboard replaced...

  • Thinkpad Yoga 13 keyboard and mousepad don't work

    Hello people!
Last time I went  to US, I've bought this machine from Amazon: Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga Signature Edition - 12.5" 2-in-1 Touchscreen Notebook PC - Intel i5 Haswell / 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD / WiFi / Webcam / Windows 8.1 - Black
I love it! At least until two weeks ago... after a windows/lenovo update things starts to be really hard.
My keyboard and mousepad simple don't work anymore, totally unresponsive. If I hit "del" to access the bios, the keyboard does work, after that, when windows is loading and fully loaded, I've got only the "tablet" mode.
The only thing that works correctly is the touchscreen, as it only recognize itself as a tablet, not as a ultrabook. The screen also rotates automatacly when windows is fully loaded, so I have to use the tent mode with an external usb keyboard/mouse or type in the screen keyboard...
I leave in Brazil, got in contact with lenovo suport team here, after a lot of procedures, that didn't solve the problem, they told me to get in contact with lenovo US and ask for an original dvd recovery.
Is there anyone with a different approach to solve this problem?

First try SMC and PRAM resets:
    support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free diagnosis.
    Ciao.

  • Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).
Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.
I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.
Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.
However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:
    1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.
    2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.
    3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.
    4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work.
I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup.
    Any help please?
    Thank you.

Just when I was happy that major issues have been resolved by constant updating, I am now experiencing this frightening problem. Mostly during startup, and lately in the middle of working, the screen freezes, shows very damaged image (like TV noise), produces the most unpleasant sound through the speakers and nothing works. I need to restart and hope that it will be ok. Sometimes it requires 2 or 3 restarts, going to safe-mode and returning back to get the issue resolved.
This has happened three or 4 times within 24 hrs. I searched in the forum and for another model it was suggested that epresscache might be the cause. I disabled the service, but the problem reappeared even then.
    Any help please:
This is what appears on the screen when the computer freezes and produces loud unpleasant noise sound.
