Thinkpad Yoga - No battery is detected

Hi,
My Thinkpad Yoga is not detecting battery all of a sudden and it is not working without external power supply. There is a red 'x' mark on the battery icon which says 'No battery is detected'. I didn't use my laptop for the past one month. Is this a hardware issue or something related to software? Could anyone help me diagnose and find a solution?
Many Thanks,
Vinoth

There's an option in the BIOS to disable the internal battery. It's normally only used when performing maintenance on internal compnents. Could that have been turned on?
Press F1 at startup to access the setup utility. See http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht076906 if you have any trouble.

  • Thinkpad Yoga S1 Battery

    Hi,
is there a battery available as a replacement for a Thinkpad Yoga S1?

From the ThinkPad S1 Yoga FRU BOM: http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/yoga_fru_bom_20140319.pdf
there are two FRU P/Ns for the internal 8-cell battery on the first page.
If you look at the hardware maintenance manual: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=UM019563
manual pages 61 and 62 detail acess to and removal of the internal battery. Please note, though, that manual page 49 specifies that it is not either a Self-service or Optional service CRU (customer replaceable unit).

  • Thinkpad Yoga 15 Battery

Hello,I was contemplating between the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and the Thinkpad Yoga 15. They both seem like solid choices, but the main deciding factor would be the battery life. I don't know, from the information provided, the difference in the batteries that are included. If they are the same, I would assume the Yoga 14 has a longer life. Does anyone have the Yoga 15 and would like to share their experience with the battery life?  Thank you very much

I have the Yoga 15 for about 5 weeks and I can't get the power options to work correctly.  The computer won't sleep or hibernate.  So when pulling the laptop out of my briefcase in the morning the batter is always dead.   I've checked to make sure I had the most recent bios version and played with a various power options settings all to no avail; i.e. sleep when lid is shut, hibernate when lid is shut, manually sleeping computer before closing the lid.  None seem to work.  The battery is always dead the next morning.  It won't sleep or hibernate.  The battery strength is good because I can use the laptop for several hours on battery power. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS...VERY FRUSTRATING.

  • Thinkpad s230 No Battery Is Detected

The battery icon in Windows 8 just started saying "No battery is detected".
The system seems to run fine on the battery.  I tried rebooting, but that did not change anything.
When plugged in, the icon shows that it is plugged in, but still says "No battery is detected".
It does not look like I can remove and replace the battery without taking things apart.
    Anyone else have this issue?

Thank you!  I had the same "no battery detected" problem with my Thinkpad Twist s230u and unplugging it and running on battery until it died fixed the problem.  BTW, you won't get any notice that you are about to run out of battery ... it will just shut off, so you might not want to be working on your thesis or novel when you lose power.
Hopefully this is something Lenovo can fix with a software or firmware update so more customers don't have the same problem.

  • Genuine Lenovo Battery Not Attached, Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga

I am having a message that says "Genuine Lenovo Battery Not Attached" message that appears after Windows 8.1 starts up. A similar sort of message appears before even Windows boots up, and I need to press the 'Esc' key in order for Windows to boot. This seems to have happened after a recent Windows update. I have uninstalled an reinstalled the Lenovo Power Management Driver but it does not appear to have fixed the issue. My BIOS is the latest version.
This issue is on my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

Reset simply does a circuit discharge, it doesn't wipe anything off your hdd.

  • 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Thinkpad Yoga)

I have a Thinkpad Yoga which today was turned on while I was away (i.e. computer was not in use). When returning back the screen said "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". Windows must have crashed (probably just another one of those faulty Lenovo drivers) and then the system couldn't boot up.
Everything seems alright after a hard reboot but I'm afraid my SSD drive has gone bad.

  • Thinkpad yoga battery life

Hello I recently bout a thinkpad yoga all the way from america, so it came with an american charger, to which I luckily had a converter. It works, but it takes FOR EVER to charge compared to how long it takes to run out of charge.. this is without a doubt going to be a problem, is there any chance that the converter may be slow? or is it possible that buying a european version of the charger might help if they exist? much thanks, please help me Im clueless... thanks

I have not seen a laptop made in the last 10 years, maybe much more, that can't run off any of the major power formats (110 to 240V 50 to 60hz) in the world and they should be able to do so with no loss of charging capacity.  This is certainly true of my thinkpad. There is no converter required, only a plug adapter which simply conects metal pins of different shapes together.   If you are just using a plug adapter, as you should be, then the voltage difference is not your problem.

  • Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).
Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.
I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.
Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.
However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:
    1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.
    2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.
    3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.
    4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work.
I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup.
    Any help please?
    Thank you.

Just when I was happy that major issues have been resolved by constant updating, I am now experiencing this frightening problem. Mostly during startup, and lately in the middle of working, the screen freezes, shows very damaged image (like TV noise), produces the most unpleasant sound through the speakers and nothing works. I need to restart and hope that it will be ok. Sometimes it requires 2 or 3 restarts, going to safe-mode and returning back to get the issue resolved.
This has happened three or 4 times within 24 hrs. I searched in the forum and for another model it was suggested that epresscache might be the cause. I disabled the service, but the problem reappeared even then.
    Any help please:
This is what appears on the screen when the computer freezes and produces loud unpleasant noise sound.

  • Thinkpad Yoga 12 20CD extreme fan noise

    Hi,
Last week, I had my Thinkpad Yoga 12 serviced, as it didn't boot anymore. The whole interior got replaced. Since then, the fan noise is really unbearable. It was the same when I initially bought the machine, but then, a BIOS update (don't know which anymore) fixed it. It's a loud high-pitch noise, like a whissle.
I need urgent help, my collegues are complaining of the noise.
    Best regards,
    Jeroen

Well here I am on the new thread as well - and like heck the issue was resolved on the old thread. As mentioned before by myself and others on the other thread, I would update the BIOS, the fan would work for a while, then it would stop again until I updated the BIOS yet again.HOWEVER, thinking on this, and a variety of other problems I've been having with the TP Yoga (a whole lot - such buggy software), I remembered from my T61 days that the Lenovo System Update software is pretty hit and miss with finding updates. So I went to the Lenovo downloads page for the TP Yoga and indeed found a lot of software not passed onto me by the System Update.Amongst these was (TA-DA !) a utility "Lenovo Fan Test for Windows". I thought it would be useful to install in any case to test if the fan was operating properly (it was not part of the standard suite of diagnostic tools provided on my computer).Anyway since I installed it my fan has worked !!! - but only when my computer is plugged in, though this I believe is because I am using Lenovo Power Optimized (Lenovo Power Manager was another software on the site not provided to me via System Update) which I believe relies on passive cooling (throttling back processor) when only battery power is available. But now TpFan works all the time, though only in smart mode, and when I plug in the power to stream a video the computer doesn't reach boiling point and then shut down.Interesting. My fan diagnostic comes up as unavailable...

  • Thinkpad yoga 14 Fix I discovered

    Hello,
To geeksquad repair techs or customers savvy with a soldering iron, I just wanted to present the fix I figured out to the ever-so-frustrating problem on the Thinkpad yoga 14 where the laptop would power off when disconnected from AC power and then held or nudged in a certain way.
long story short, there is a small switch that detects if the back cover is on, which, for what I assume is safety reasons, shuts off the laptop if the back cover is detected removed. the problem is that lenovo picked an overly sensitive switch for this purpose, and any minor deformation of the case is enough to trigger it, regardless of how tightly the back cover is screwed on. therefore, the switch needs to be soldered to trick it into thinking the back cover is always on.
    (removed per forum guidelines)

I wanted to also clarify that electrical tape is not sufficient to fix this, the switch will simply stretch through the electrical tape over time.

  • Thinkpad Yoga doesn't power up

I bought a Thinkpad Yoga about 3 weeks ago. It came with two discoloured spots at the top two corners, so I went back to the shop and switched for a new one. This also came with the problem and I therefore switched for a third one again, which also had this problem.
I sent it in for replacement, Lenovo was willing to approve a direct replacement from them, so after 3 weeks of waiting (yes, which meant i spent only 1 day so far with this laptop). The fourth laptop arrived today. However, after working for a few hours, the laptop now refuses to power up at all.
I tried the power button trick, doesn't work. I tried pulling out the battery and power cable and pressed the reset button, doesn't work. I tried holding on to the power button for 5 minutes, pressing the reset button for 5 mins, doesn;t work.
Before I request for a fifth replacement laptop from Lenovo again, does anybody have any tips that could help me power up my TPY? I feel really helpless with this laptop right now. (Refunds doesn't happen in Singapore due to weak consumer protection laws).

Does the laptop respond when u press the power button? If you have problem I strongly suggest refund or replacement.

  • Thinkpad Yoga: Lenovo Power Plans

Hello i upgraded my Yoga to Windows 8.1. Enterprise but no i lost my lenovo energy plans. Can you tell me how to get them like energysaver again?
Can anyone export them like here http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-import-and-export-power-plans-schemes-in-windows-7/ for me please?
    Regards Zack

Then, about controlling at which level does the battery start charging and at which level it stops, I have found that the Power Managment software extention is not compatible with the Thinkpad Yoga... Which is a pity to my mind. The Lenovo staff justify it by saying that it is not harmful to let the battery fully charged and plugged until it is the case during years non stop.
But I would like to tell here that since we see on several websites that a battery has a better lifetime if charged at 80-90% rather than 100%, if the software engineers could make the software compatible without too much effort, that would be great.
I have also discussed with other people about the F1-F12 keys configuration in the BIOS, and we agree in general that it's very frustrating to see some useful possibilities disabled on newest computers, especially knowing that it is supposed to be professional machines...
I hope then that the Lenovo staff is opened to customers' wishes and works to make the best of Lenovo's computers experience.
    All the best.

  • Fan racing intermittently, no CPU load, Thinkpad Yoga 15

I just purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 15. I was trying to fix its disabled discrete graphics card. One thing i did was update the BIOS. I think it's after this that the fan started to intermittently race. It's silence, then runs loudly and annoyingly for a second or two, slilent again, then randomly continues. Before the upgrade it was silent all the time.
This is terrible. Anyone has any ideas?

No HDMI sound in Windows 10 on Thinkpad Yoga 12. Shows not connected in the sound panel, only video transmits over HDMI but soud plays throught speakers as it does not detect the audo link.

Update: I managed to fix it by using what brillat described here. "The HDMI Audio drivers, for whatever reason, are not installed when you install the Intel video driver. You know they are missing if in your device manager under "Sound" you see "High Definition Audio Device" - you should instead see "Intel(R) Display Audio". Download the video drivers from Lenovo.  Extract but do not install.  In the extracted folder, find the DisplayAudio folder.  Find the "High Definition Audio Device" with PCI ID Vendor 8086 and Device 2807 in Device Manager.  Manually update the driver of that device, pointing it to the DisplayAudio folder."
