Thinkpad Yoga S1 not charging and stuck at 800mhz - even after servicing

After giving up and sending my Thinkpad in for service, it still (after being at the depot for two weeks!) still not fixed.
I have to admit, I am dissapointed with Lenovo's service so far, it is clear the technicians did little to no diagnostics at all to confirm the issue was fixed.
My issue is as follows:
1) The computer will run INDEFINITELY on the power adapter.  This is NOT a case of a faulty power adapter (occurs with two different adaptors) or a faulty power port (again, the machine will run until the cows come home on the adapter.
2) The computer is stuck at 800mhz.  I can get it 'unstuck' as long as it is unplugged and I toggle the multicore option in BIOS.
3) Once plugged in, the CPU will return and remain at 800mhz, even if it is unplugged, shutdown, rebooted, etc.
4) The battery will not charge.  The laptop will run off battery power if the battery has power (came back from the depot at 99%, down to 90% now) but will not charge the battery at all, only maintain the level.  This is the case whether the computer is in Windows, or turned off.
This is Windows 8.1 by the way, so there is no option to set a charge level to maintain.  That being said, last time (before I sent it in) I drained it to < 50% and it still never charged, even when it hit 0% and the laptop stopped detecting the battery (but still ran off the ac adaptor).
The unit also had some ghosting on the LCD, and it took me a while to convince the techs to swap it out.  I think my mistake was I wiped the unit, and so they were too lazy (?!) to actually test it, since once you use the computer for 5 minutes it was very obvious (I offered to send pictures, as I documented the issue but they declined).  That issue has thankfully been resolved.
This is the first "post-IBM" Thinkpad I've owned, and I have to say between this and that abysmal clickpad I am not impressed.

I recently had this problem too with my Yoga S1 after a system driver update.  I noticed during the updates that I received a message that the BIOS update failed.  The message came and went very rapidly and the updates continued and completed with no problems.  Usually when a firmware update fails, nothing in the BIOS is really changed.  I turned the computer off and thought nothing of it.  The next time that I turned it on though I too had this problem.  After repeated pressings of the power switch and pressing the reset button it finally booted and seemed like all was good, until I did a reboot, and it started again.  After much more pressing buttons it finally did  boot again.  That's when I remembered the failed BIOS update.  I didn't trust the auto update program, so I went to Lenovo's site and dowloaded the latest firmware and attempted to update it manually.  When I ran the update program it failed again.  What I wound up doing was just keep trying.  After repeating the update program four or five times, it finally completed successfully.  I have no idea why it kept failing or why after many attempts it finally worked.  After the update finally worked the problem seems to have been resolved, at least it hasn't done it again,,,yet.  Hopefully this will give some others hope in that it can be resolved without sending it off if you can get it to get it to boot again.

My computer recently has stopped charging and when i go to the battery icon it says i need to service the battery, does this mean my mac actually needs serviced? Or is this just a glitch in the os? Can someone please help me. My battery doesnt acually seem to be depleating but its still a problem i would like solved. The battery lead has no colour in the LED. Please help

You can try an SMC reset:
Resolve power and other issues by resetting the SMCIn some situations, you may need to reset your computer's SMC.  Learn how to identify these conditions and reset the SMC.
If that does not fix it, you have software on your Mac that will reveal your battery's condition. Click and hold on your Apple menu (left end of menubar) and the press your OPTION key. The top items will change from "About this Mac..." to "System Information..."
When SI opens, look in the left-hand panel under hardware and find "Power" Click it. You will see this:
Copy/paste what I've shown (ingore anything lower on the screen) into a reply to your own post here. Please omit the serial number.
From that  we can get an idea if this is a software glitch or a real battery problem.

  • Battery Not Charging and stuck at 0%

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro on which the battery suddenly appears to have died. It was working fine, I switched it off when I went away for the weekend and on Monday morning it's behaving as if a battery wasn't plugged in. As soon as I unplug the power the laptop turns off.
    Battery Information in System Profiler says;
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 0
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 0
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 169
    Condition: Check battery
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 12511
What's the opinion of this board - just a dead battery? The laptop is almost exactly 2 years old, what are the chances of Apple kindly giving me a replacement?
    Thanks in advance.
    Paul

"is there anyway i can auto-update battery firmware, whenever it is released? "
Check Software Update. Or go to:
HD/System/Library/SystemConfiguration & look for a file called batteryupdater.bundle. Select Get Info for the file.
If its version number is 1.2 or 1.3 you should be fine If not, or if you cannot locate a batteryupdater.bundle file (by using Spotlight, searching manually or using a 3rd party search feature) then download an update from Apple's website & install it. If installing has no effect, you probably need a new battery.
Make sure you calibrate your battery every month or 2. You will need to read your user manual to determine the correct amount of times for _*your model*_ MBP.
Make sure your MBP is getting proper ventilation. According to the user manual it states in part:
+"Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings."+

  • IPad not charging and stuck in an apple logo loop???

Cam back from hols and my iPad battery (which was low when I left) appeared to have died. Plugged iPad in overnight and left it to charge.
Nothing seemed to have happened this morning, and have been trying to get it to work since, trawling google and these forums with no luck.
When plugged into the mains charger the apple logo come on for a few seconds then goes off, then comes on, then goes off and on and on...
When plugged into my iMac the screen remains blank, no charging sounds etc.
I managed to get the iPad into DFU mode and started the restore process, but it errors out after preparing the ipad for restore for quite some time.
Any suggestions? I've booked a genius bar appointment for tomorrow, but really don't want to have to traipse all the way into london to get it seen to.

Did you try a reset....hold home and sleep/wake buttons down at same time and don't let up until you see the Apple logo on a black screen....then leave it alone...sometimes takes a few minutes to come back to life.

can you please tell me whats wrong with my mbp and how do i resolve it

First check the connections on the power adapter and the MBP.  Make certain that they are clean and see if the spring loaded connectors on the power adapter are not stuck.
    Try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If available, try another power adapter.
If no success, bring the MBP and the power adapter to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

  • HT3964 Installed a new battery for a Macbook 2,1 New battery not charging. Battery symbol shows (Not charging) and replace battery. Green LED on magsafe connection. Disconnection results in an instant shutdown.

I have just installed a new Battery after the old one showed (Not Charging) and when you clicked on this icon the dropdown"condition replace now". Problem now is the computer still shows the same message in the top bar (Not Charging) and the dropdown also shows "condition relace now". the magsafe show the greem LED i.e not charging, but providing power. If you disconnect the magsafe the computer powers off instantly confirming we have power. I have carried out resetting the SMC controller and still no change. Tested the standby voltage on the magsafe pins etc, all in spec. What should I do now, as I don't want to keep spending more and more. Bellow is the info from the system profiler.

I have reset the NVRAM and the SMC a couple of time but that didn't work so I ran an Apple Hardware Test and while testing the logic board it gives the following error:
    4SNS/1/40000000 LB1T
I've done some research and found this is a temperature sensor related to the battery, but cannot find where the sensor is located in the computer.  Would you know how I can find the sensor to test it?  Could my battery problem be related to something else?  Would a fresh install of Lion help?
    Thank you!
    Mike
Two pieces of information that may or may not b helpful, the hard drive is from my early 2008 MBP and the only test disc I have access to is from an iMac.

Why do you have LION installed on that older machine?
So you say you built a macbook from a bucket of parts eh?   Kudos
heres a pic of the battery temp sensor
