ThinkServer RD230 RAID 5 Centos problem

Greetings
I have a Thinkserver RD230, type 4011, model 16u with four drives of 3000GB each.
Some problems occur when I try to install centos 6.2
The first problem, is that the array only recognizes 750GB instead 3000GB, as the hardrives size, but I created, in a test way, a RAID 5 for understand the problem (the resulting array are 2.1 TB of capacity).
The second problem is, when y try to install Centos, this show the 4 drives  separated (with complete capacity of 3000GB each one) instead one (that is the common situation when you create a raid in a controller).
I'm not sure if the upgrade of the firmware in the bios and the controller, solves this problems or not.
I appreciate all help and info.
Thanks.

Hi Howie;
This is a known issue. The bug is in the LIS driver.
The fix has now been released.  Please connect with the Open Logic Vendor too apply the fix and incorporate it in the image.

  • RD120 RAID Hard dive problems

    Hi,
I have a ThinkServer RD120 6447-19G, that I bought with 2 disks. But now I want to add 4 more disks. I just bought the new disks, but I have some detection problems with the two Western Digital WD1002FAEX drives.
The RAID controler detect them some times, but not always, I've tried to update the Firmware from the lenovo website but nothing change.
    Does anybody have an idea?
    Thansk in advance.
    Regards.
    Yann

Managed to sort. Split drive into 2 1 side for mac only and the other for mac or pc. Saved files accross alraedy and works a treat.
Dont know why it wouldn't work, just tried again and it did???
    Cheers

  • RAID 5 array problem

    Hi,
I've a problem arising from the replacement of a drive in a Proliant ML370 G3 RAID 5 array.
What happened is one disc in the array failed. I replaced it and selected the "F1" rebuild option. The system then appeared to start the rebuild, both the green arrow and the green HD icon on the replaced disc flashing. However, when I returned to the server, over a week later, I found that the HD light had gone out but the green arrow continued to flash on occasion. I had expected the HD icon to remain illuminated and the arrow to flash every so often. When I checked in Disc Manager (Windows 2003 Server) this reported that although both partitions allocated to the array were healthy, there was no fault tolerance. I have since rebooted the server which then responded that the same disc had failed and presented me with a rebuild option.
I've now tried to rebuild this array three times without success, the result being the same each time I try. What am I missing?
    I'd appreciate any suggestions
    Phil

You gave a very nicely detailed list of datum ... thanks, that's rare!
Now ... one other bit ... you mention media being on the Thunderbolt RAID5 ... is everything there, including cache/database/previews/project-file, or just the media? I know that if say everything else was on the system drive, this would probably happen ... the media is the 'easiest' part of the disc-in/out chain as it's mostly "simple" reading of files, those other things are heavy read/write items. I'm assuming you've probably put most of it on that RAID, as the folks on the Tweaker's Page would oft posit.

  • X58 Platinum Raid 1 Setup Problems

I am having difficulties installing and setting up Raid during my Windows 7 installation and wanted to see where I was going wrong.  My setup is as follows:
    Windows 7 Upgrade CD
    MSI X58 Platinum motherboard
1 Seagate 250gb HDD (I intend to put the OS on this drive)
2 Seagate 1tb drives (Intended to be in Raid 1 configuration - moving all of my data files to the raid configuration)
Intel ICH10 8.5 drivers already installed.  Attempting to install 8.9.0.1023 from both floppy and flash drive.  Drivers downloaded from MSI site and Intel.
I can install Windows 7 without any issue if my Integrated Peripherals in the BIOS are set to IDE, but the second that I set it to Raid, things go downhill.
All three drives are visible in the BIOS.  I have created a Raid 1 volume using the Intel Matrix Manager 8.5 and selected the 1TB drives.
I have the integrated peripherals setting set to Raid, but the second I do, Windows 7 installation indicates "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition".  I have tried formating the HDD and using bootrec /fixmbr to correct the problem, but I have not had any luck.
1)I boot up the system with the Windows Installation CD in my drive, boot sequence is set to A:, Flash USB, CD/DVD drive, HDDs.
2)Windows installation starts.  I select Custom Installation.
3)2 drives are visible - the drive I intend to install the OS and the Raid drive
4)I load the Intel Matrix Drivers using the load drivers command
5)I attempt to install Windows 7 upon successful installation of the Intel Driver and I get the error message stated above.
The three drives are all installed on the main board Sata slots: intended OS on Sata 1, intended raid drives on Sata 2 & 3.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Am I missing a step in the installation procedure or executing the installation procedures in the wrong order?

  • RAID Admin logs problem -- how to avoid 2-day truncation?

    Folks:
I have a problem that appears to have started about April 5 when I updated RAID Admin and Xerve RAID firmware to latest versions. Since then, I'm only seeing last two days of entries in the log (ie: what you see in the "Events" tab in RAID Admin). Strangely, entries up to to April 5 are preserved.
Of course I did't notice this until some was already lost. But now I want to fix it. I don't see any setting for "max log length" or similar.
Further more, I could use an explanation of where this log lives -- is it something that RAID Admin retrieves from the RAID box, or is it somehow preserved on the computer running RAID Admin or what?
    Thanks,
    Graham

Simply? There is no simple way.
But if you will accept a way that is not so simple, there is a company that sells a product that allows you to run a Java class as a service under NT. I don't remember its name but it has been named several times in the past in answers to this same question. A search of the forums would probably find it.

  • Thinkserver RD230 401116U Hard Drive Tray / Carrier / Sled

I have an RD230 server with no hard drives, and four bare Western Digital 3.5" SATA drives. All I lack are the trays required to install the hard drives. A fellow with technical support tells me that the hard drive trays do not have an FRU, are not sold separately, and that they are available only when purchased as part of a Lenovo branded hard drive.
This fellow is selling OEM trays but I am not sure whether they will work with the RD230. Do all the R-series servers use interchangeable hard drive trays? In other words, if this fellow asserts these trays are compatible with the RD240, can I have some reasonable level of confidence that they are compatible with the RD230?

Thanks very much for any information you can share.
    Best,

Well as it happens the server actually included the hard drive trays. In spite of the fact that both our distributor and Lenovo tech support said the server did not include hard drive trays! So never mind.

  • RD230 - RAID configuration

    Good afternoon,
I'm setting up an RD230 (4100 model) and i've stalled at the RAID configuraiton. The EasyStartup cd (3.1.3) keeps telling me that i need to set the SATA mode to SW RAID in the Bios. However the only options i get are "Enhanced IDE" & RAID, neither of which pick up the drives.
I've tried updating the BIOS to no effect. Struggling a bit here if someone could give me a hand.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We managed to work around it.
It turned out that what we were sold was incorrect, we were sold 3 SAS drives on a SAS back plate without a RAID Controller.. So the only option was for SW RAID.
We opted to use 4 SATA drives instead of the SAS drives, from this we were able to use the Intel RAID controller on boot up. It literally does flash up in a split second though, so you have to be quick.

  • P67A-GD65 RAID set-up problem... HELP!

First off I tried the search to find any threads but the search didn't come back with anything relevant.
So here is my problem. Brand new build and can't get the RAID drivers to install. Can't even find the drivers by themselves without a EXE file to run them. I have them on a USB flash drive but Win7 won't recognize them because they are still bundled into the EXE program. I've tried to extract them from the Marvell RAID Drivers given on the MSI support site but still no luck. I have the MSI P67A-GD65 with two Seagate ST32000641AS Barracuda XT HDs plugged into the Marvell SATA III ports 7 & 8. Win7 install sees them as two separate drives so I'm stuck trying to find some drivers that Win7 will recognize and install off the USB drive.
Also I'm reading that the Marvell SATA III controller isn't as fast as the Intel P67 SATA III controller.... should I swap the cables over and avoid the Marvell? If so any help finding the Intel P67 RAID Drivers would be greatly appreciated.

Things have changed since my last build, thank God!
In the old days you had to install the RAID drivers before installing the OS onto the array. Today I just set up the RAID 0 array after installing Windows 7 onto one of the two drives. So all that time I spent looking for drivers that weren't part of an EXE file was a waste. I did swap from the SATA III Marvell ports (7 & 8) to the SATA III ports (1 & 2) that are Intel P67 PCH. I then installed Windows 7, popped in the MSI motherboard disc, and loaded the Intel RAID drivers. After that I opened the Intel Control Panel that was installed with the RAID drivers and set-up the RAID 0 array. Now it seems Windows 7 is migrating itself onto that array. Bad news...  because the array is so large. Two 2TB drives...  its going to take a long time. Not sure if there is a better/faster way.

  • Mac Mini Server RAID 1 Disc Problem

I tried configuring my new Mac Mini Server (with the help of my MacBook Pro's superdrive) in RAID 1 as outlined in previous discussions by:
Step 1: Start the Mini in Target Mode. Press the T during start. In a few seconds the firewire logo will appear on your screen.
Step 2: Go to your second Mac. Connect the firewire cable between second Mac and Mini.
Step 3: On the second Mac start the disc utility. The two identical drives on your mini will show. Create a new Raid set (mirrored = Raid 1). Include both drives. Confirm the warning that all data on the mini will be lost.
Step 4: Make sure your second Mac has CD/ DVD sharing option installed. This is to use the superdrive to install OS X Server on the mini.
    Step 5: Shutdown both Macs
Step 6: Start your second Mac in target mode. Make sure the firewire cable is still connected.
Step 7: Start the Mini with the option key pressed.
Step 8: Insert the OS X Server install disc in your second Mac.
Step 9: wait till the drive logo apears om the Mini. Continue the install. Will take about an hour.
But when I get to Step 9 the mini's drive logo does not appear. I tried reformatting the mini's drives again in Disc Utility but still the same outcome. What did I do wrong? How can I fix it?
    Thanks!!

Never mind, was able to do the install with the Remote Install Mac OS X utility.

  • RAID 50 Creation Problem

Here is what I get when I try to create a RAID 50 on my Xserve RAID. This is from the console log of Disk Utility.
    Made bootable had an error on disk disk3s10 Untitled 1 {
    Error = 16;
    MapChanged = 0;
    NewName = "AppleRAID_OfflineV2_Untitled3";
    NewSlice = 10;
Error creating RAID (16) Resource busy
    Error creating RAID: Resource busy
RAID set “Untitled RAID Set 1” not created successfully.
    Any ideas?

Yes, I'm sure…I just created the raid5 in RAID Admin and went into DIsk Utility to create the raid0 of the 2 sides of the Xserve RAID and that is what it came up with. I thought maybe the raid5 creation had to complete first so I waited until that finished and still recieved the same message. Any other ideas?

  • RAID question (disk problem?) on K9A2 Platinum

This may be a newbie question but I just can't figure this out.
I have been getting hard stops and upon restart I am told my RAID array is critical or rebuilding.  Sometimes W7 will restart normally when I pick that, most times I have to go through some sort of restore routine.  I have reloaded my video drivers (ATI Catalyst) no difference.  Diskeeper indicates that the HD is critical and badly fragmented.
How do I tell which of my two disks is bad without cracking the case, unplugging one at a time and trying to reboot?  When I go into the Fatbuild utility both drives appear to have the same number.
    Thanks

Frankly, once the remote HDs are plugged in they will probably stay that way.  I just want faster backups.  If I go the AHCI route, presumably I have to enable the Promise controller for the eSATA ports.  Remember reading here that the K9A2 Promise controller runs the eSATA ports.  Is that correct.
The Diskeeper comment was just further grist for the mill that makes me think the RAID drives -- or one at least -- are not long for this World.  To date myself badly I wish I was able to use an original version of Norton Utilities

So at this stage all my data is on the 750 hdd and the disk is stored away. my problem started with me buyng 2 mx100 256 ssds . If my bios is set to ide or ahci they work fine i had my windows instaled on 1 of them all woks fine. Once i switch my bios to raid ( before i set up my raid 0) boot up win 7 instalation i do not see any drives ( i know is normal) load the drivers for the raid controler (sb950 for w7 as it says in themanual) and only my 256 hdd shows up but not the ssds . Than i set them up in ld raid 0 same problem . Tryed on another 2 mbs ... 1 same and a gygabite same problem. So i was sure there is a problem with ssds. I got rid of them got 2 new 850 evo 250 gb same problem. please help me i am so desparate i am willing to pay woth body organs for help

    I..have a few questions...
    1. You set BIOS to the RAID mode, and under that option there's a Board SATA RAID ROM, do you set it as Legacy ROM?
    2. Did you enter Ctrl+F to initialize the drives/Delete Array(If they're used SSDs) and create RAID0?
    3. Is your Win7 64 bit or 32 bit?
    4. I assume it's 64 bit, did you copy the W764 folder for driver loading?
And make sure you get the driver from here:

  • Apple raid card with Sonnet Tempo SSD problem?

I am currently using Mac Pro 5.1 (2010)
    My configuration is
    1) Apple Raid Card in PCIe slot 4
2TB bootable HDD  and 3x 1TB HDDs configured to RAID 0
    2) Apple Radeon 5770 card in PCIe slot 1
    3) Sonnet Tempo SSD with Apple OEM 512GB SSD in PCIe slot 2
    4) Caldigit Fasta-6GU3pro USB3 + eSATA card in PCIe slot 3
When I boot from 2TB bootable HDD in main slot #1, everything works well.
But, when I install Mavericks to 512GB SSD in PCIe slot, installation finishes without problem, but the system NEVER boot up with that drive.
(The drive appears in boot disc selection in system preference, but nothing changed even select it and reboot.)
(I did a lot of PRAM reset too...)
The SSD works well when I put it to 2nd ODD slot with spare SATA2 connectors in there. (boot properly, etc).
But when I put it back to TEMPO card, It never appears during boot process (even I press option key).
    Maybe problem is due to
    1) Issue with APPLE raid card
    2) problem due to two additional SATA controllers in PCIe rains.
    3) Issue with card configuration (I have to test change the position of cards except APPLE RAID which requires slot 4)
    Does anybody experienced similar problems?

    This:
    > But, when I install Mavericks to 512GB SSD in PCIe slot, installation finishes without problem, but the system NEVER boot up with that drive.
It is not uncommon to have trouble installing, cloning, or booting from a PCIe card - though the Sonnet Tempo Pro SSD is one of the reliable ones, still, you should install the OS first on SATA II normally, then move the SSD to its new home.
The fact the SSD works on the ODD port - have you asked or looked for firmware update or anything from Sonnet and what they have to say?
With three PCIe cards to contend with, they may interact - not unheard of - and the USB3 may need drivers first to work?

can anyone help me to find the corret software to monitor Raid under Centos (Gui or text based..)

    Hi
I dont think that the RAID driver does not allow monitoring the HDD temperature.
It seems that all these 3rd party tools are not designed to monitor the HDD temp.
    Thats all!
    > Can the RAID drivers be uninstalled/installed/updated without destroying the operating system at all?
Usually the RAID driver must be installed at first before running the OS setup installation. Its needed to recognize the HDD!!!
I have had a Qosmio G20 and I changed the RAID configuration in the BIOS. After this procedure the new OS installation was needed!
