Thinkstation D20 & Quad SLI Configuration using 2 X Nvidia N295GTX Problem.

I got the new D20 with Dual Quad-Core W5580 Processors, 16GB RAM, 2 SAS HDs.  Tried to install 2 IDENTICAL Nvidia N295GTX GPUs with its SLI connector, at the BIOS level, it gave me one log beep & 3 consecutive ones & the Monitor is Blank. Checked the BIOS & enabled the SLI GPUs to communicate with each other through the SLI Flex connector. Still didn't work. bearing in mind that i've corrrectly connected the GPU power cables (6&8 Pin cables for each card). Upgraded the BIOS to the latest version. I installed each card seperately, they worked perfectly, Problem starts when i install them in a Quad SLI configuration.

SurferGuy - welcome to the forum!
one long and three short beeps is a keyboard error.   are you sure it isn't one long and two short beeps?   if so, this means your video cards are incompatible for some reason.   i don't know if this is a BIOS limitation or something limiting the D20 from working with four GPU cores.   since the D20 was originally intended to be used as a workstation, it's possible that dual GTX 295s were never tested in these systems since these are desktop/gaming cards.
this isn't caused by insufficient power.   if this were the case, the GTX 295s themselves would beep.   the PSU on the D20 is rated to 1080W and natively supports dual 6+8 pin PCIe power sockets.   1080W is plenty for dual GTX 295s at 289W each as long as you aren't somehow running over 500W of other accessories.
at this point i suggest calling service to see if they have any suggestions.   as far as i know, your cards aren't officially supported and may not even work at this point in time.   a BIOS update may change this in the future but i cannot speak in more detail at this point in time.

  • Is it true that not one of MSI's P67 Chipset boards supports Quad SLI

I received a message from MSI when I requested a list of LGA 1155 boards that support Quad SLI.  MSI stated that none of their 1155 socket boards support Quad SLI. I specifically bought my board because it was listed as a certified Quad SLI board in an article by Nvidia on "How to build a Quad SLI Rig" using 2 GTX 590s. Just a little disturbing if this is the case since I have been talking for pulling my hair out for 3 weeks and posting questions in this forum so that I could get a Quad SLI option in the Nvidia control panel and asking everyone for help. Just want to clarify that what this MSI employee is telling me is correct and that I would have to get a different CPU if I want to use MSI for Quad SLI or go to another MB Manufacturer (which I don't want to do).
MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 none for 1155 socket.
End User 02/23/2012 I am not asking you for technical support for my current board. I was asking for a recommendation based on my CPU which board is the best MSI makes that will support Quad SLI. MSI Tech. 02/23/2012 this is not the post sale technical support form, please use the proper support form from the following link: http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/ts_form.aspx ***this model of the mb only supports SLI, not QUAD SLI: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html#/?div=Basic

I believe there is a misunderstanding.  MSI seems to have their own terminology in which "2 GTX 590s" are not labeled "Quad-SLI" but actually "nVidia (Dual GPU) ( 2 way SLI)" as opposed to "nVidia (Single GPU) ( 2 way SLI)".
This is the video card test list for your P67 board and if you scroll down you will see what I mean.  A 2x590GTX setup wasn't actually tested, but you can find 2x295GTX and 2x9800GX2 setups in the list:
    http://eu.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2313.pdf
In MSI's terms, "Quad SLI" is reserved for setups with four actual cards and from this perspective Quad SLI is not supported on your mainboard model (there are only 2 PCI-E x 16 slots (connected to the CPU's PCI-E interface that will run as x8/x8 as the CPU only provides 16 PCI-E 2.0 lanes).
I hope that clears things up for you.

  • Quad SLI option not available in Nvidia Control Panel after complete reformat

I had a SSD failure on this new build in Raid 0. Before I RMA'd the HD I went with one HD and was able to get Quad SLI running. Now after going Raid 0 with the new HD I had to reformat and I reloaded the OS and then updated all the drivers. Now I no longer get the option for Quad SLI even though my cards are seen by the device manager and the NCP. I can only go SLI on one card and can dedicate a GPU on the second card to Physx. I used the uninstall feature for each driver last night and then restarted in Safe Mode and used driver sweeper to clean out any remnants.  I then rolled back to an earlier nvidia driver on the 500 series with no luck. I installed Live Update but did not use it except to scan my system. It shows the latest Bios so that has not changed since. I also made sure that I was using the latest Realtek drivers. Any help will be appreciated.

NO i was not able to get windows to load. I would have an intermittant SSD failure at diferent points during the installation process. I went to a single drive and it installed fine and after completion I downloaded updated drivers and went into the nvidia control panel and activated quad sli. I did have to remove one of the cards during the SSD install in order to facilitate the installation of the Sata cable into the MB. It is possible that the SLI bridge may have gone bad since it was disturbed. I ordered another one to be sure and it will arrive today. While waiting I switched the video cards in their slots to check them and I also verified that the PCI slots are good. Is there some history of a conflict between Raid 0 and 4 way SLI that I should be aware of?

  • MSI x58 Pro and Quad SLI

OK I am new to this forum first off. So hey! lol. Now maybe this has been discussed.... well im sure it might have been but I thought I would get a direct answer from somebody. I have the Msi x58 Pro mobo and I planning to run QUAD SLI with GTX 295's. Now my BIOS version is the oldest.... I think 7.0 which doesnt support SLI right? and I have read that MSI motherboards now supports SLI. WIll this configuration work and should I update my BIOS to the most current version??

Yes, update with the 8 series bios. That will enable SLI. Please, be sure to use the forum USB Flash Tool for the bios update.

  • Thinkstation D20 Processor Upgrade Options

    Hello All!
I recently acquired a Thinkstation D20 4155-29U. This model has the E5502 (dual core) proc installed. I would like to use a E5504 (quad core) proc in this system. I checked the hardware Maint manual and cannot confirm that it will work as there are different system boards used.
However, I did find this link under upgrade options on Lenovo's site: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-72848
It appears that the quad procs may be interchangeable if you start with a quad system.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, you could go to the X5560 or X5570 Xeons as well with the same thermal config given they are 95W CPUs.  To move into the W series (Nehalem WS-2S), you would need different CPU fansinks.
As for the memory speed, the 1333MHz speed is in reference to the max memory speed supported by the controller in the CPU.  You're not required to use 1333 as the MRC will downclock to match the speed of the memory if lower.
Also, you should post your specific memory config if running 1333.  Currently, Intel has some caveats to their 1333 support in that they only support 1 DIMM per channel at that speed.  So loading a system with lots of 1333 could be cost ineffective as it will downclock to 1066 if it violates 1DPC.  This will be changing eventually however as Intel should be supporting 2DPC @1333 with the launch of Westmere.

  • GTX 970 SLI Configuration Help

First off i will start with the specs to my rig.
    MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard
    i7-4790k CPU
    16g Ballistix Sport Ram
    250g Crucial SSD
    2TB HDD
    CS750M PSU
    Generic DVD Player
    NZXT Led Controller
    Corsair 760T Case
(as of now) MSI GTX 970 Gaming GFX Card
I went this morning and purchased another MSI 970 video card so i can run in SLI configuration.
Is my PSU going to be able to handle both of them? I was told yes but i need to confirm this. I also have a Nvidia Geforce 960 SC card that i want to use and dedicate it to physics only. I was told i can do this and would be great but again can my power supply handle this? That is all im worried about. Im thinking 750 would be plenty and i know i could use the 1200 but i just dont want to spend any more money unless i 100% need to. Any feedback or response would be greatly appreciated on this matter!

Awesomeness... Well i have 15 days to decide on this. Im not going to lie the Asus WS board rocks man. The only thing it lacks in my opinion is WiFi and bluetooth. I see the xpower has those options. So its like a 80$ upgrade for wifi and bluetooth i suppose.. I dont know man but i will give this some thought for sure. Im a big fan of MSI and corsair and wanted to stick with that... I will keep you updated as to what i do.

    - Supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual band (2.4GHz, 5GHz) up to 867 Mbps speed. <-- Has AC wireless so the highest speed if your router supported it at near Gigabit ethernet speeds 867Mbps for AC compared to 1000Mbps for wired Ethernet!
ok let us know what you decide i just thought i would let you know as you thought MSI didn't make one that could do your 3 way setup and I just wanted to show you it already exists with MSI as you hadn't noticed that one!

  • NF980-G65 Quad SLI???

Hello all.  I've searched all over the forums for this topic and couldn't find anything relevant, so I appologize if this topic has already been covered.
The long and short of it:
I had purchased this board as a replacement for a failing ASRock AM2+/AM3 Nvidia based mb.  I had originally had 2 identical PNY 9800 gx2's working fine on my Asrock board, but since attempting to run them in quad sli on the MSI board, i've had nothing but problems.  Those problems being, Windows 7 boots up, gets to logon screen, and freezes up, forcing a hard shutdown.  I've also had to do several windows repairs, and sadly...I've lost my D drive... (a 500gb hdd I had been using for storage)
I've run the Safe Mode/Normal mode gambit:  Disabled all services, then bring them up one at a time.  Win7 seems to hang, once I enable either the Nvidia drivers, or Aero effects/themes...essentially anything graphical.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled the nvidia drivers, (196.60?  NOT the 196.75, as this has been removed from Nvidia's site due to the overheat issue) reset the bios and nothing seems to work.
    The question:
I've read in several places that this board is supposed to be Quad SLI compatible (requiring a space between both pci-e x16 slots) but from my experience, I'm starting to wonder if thats true.
    What am I doing wrong???
    My specs:
    MSI NF980-G65

Have you checked those BIOS options?
    * Check BIOS option[Chipset Feature] "On-Chip VGA": Enable/Disable
    * Check BIOS option[Chipset Feature] "Hybrid SLI Support": Enable/Disable
There is an option to enable/disable these in Bios, but I'm not sure what setting they're supposed to be at.
    Quote
Have you attached the SLI bridge between them?
Have you connected power cables to each VGA's?
Yes the SLI bridge is connected, as well as both 6-pin and 8-pin connectors.  I also verify they are receiveing power, because both of the card's pin connectors (not sure if thats what they're called) are lit up green, and not yellow or red.
    Quote
That means that you can't install VGA drivers or can't enable the SLI once they are installed?
Exactly.  Everytime I do so, even after changing the memory timings from 1333 to 1066 it still crashes.

  • MSI X79A-GD65- quad sli ?

    Hi All ,
Im looking at buying a MSI X79A-GD65 and im wondering if the board will support quad sli ie 2x gtx590's ?
Any help would be great as i cant seem to find a definitive answer .

    2 x 590GTX cards is not quad sli, but two-way SLI (2 x GPUx2).
    Yes, it is supported.
Even though the VGA test report list for the mainboard does not mention this configuration (it probably wasn't tested), it mentions 2 x 295GTX cards which also have a dual GPU.
Thats great thanks for the quick response although http://uk.geforce.com/optimise/guides/how-to-build-a-quad-sli-system  according to that guide 2x gtx590 is quad sli hence why i asked .
    Anyway thanks again

  • Sli configuration...

    Hello everybody !
I've got currently a NX7600GT-T2D256EZ graphic card on my P5N-E SLI motherboard.
I would add a second graphic card but not exactly the same, a NX7600GT Diamond Plus, to build a Sli configuration.
Is it possible to do that because I read on the nVidia website that you have to add two same cards of the same constructor ?
    Thanks you for yours answers.

    Shynile,
SLI does not care who make the Vid Card or what color the PCB is, just make sure both Vid Cards are the same Chipset, and preferably the same amount of RAM but not required.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • My Lenovo ThinkStation D20 turn off all the sudden

I have a ThinkStation D20 which used to work for a quiet few months until it starts to power off all the sudden and now I am unable to use it b/c it happens frequently I do re installing windows cleaning each fans swiping one of the fan and still the problem is happening. Please any ideas?

    Hello,
I  also have same case recently, power-off suddenly when I using the D20 (around power-on 4 hrs then power-cut suddenly).
I have called the support center locally, that stated which may be the power supply problem, mother board problem or memory problem ?
I would like to learn from here that IF "memory problem" will cause power-off suddenly or will be blue screen ??
Or we should say that case by case ?
    Thanks & regards,

  • P7N Diamond 9800GX2 Quad SLI additional GPU problem, pls help!

    Hi all,
So I have an interesting dilemma:
I'm running my system with dual watercooled 9800gx2's in Quad SLI (both in blue pciex16 2.0 slots).
The issue is that I cannot install an additional GPU in the white or yellow slots for my touchscreen monitor/additional output.
What happens exactly is that the screen doesn't turn on (in any dvi or hdmi output)/pc doesn't boot up (the output led on the primary gx2 doesn't turn blue as it should).
I'm running the latest nonbeta release bios. I unplug, clear all power, reset cmos, reset all cards, check plugs, etc. when installing the third card.
I've tried both a 8800gt, and a radeon 2400xt I had laying around. I've tried with the gx2's in quad sli, not in quad sli, and not in sli at all (meaning one gx2 became two cards) with the same effect. The 8800gt will only work when one gx2 is installed.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If you are trying to get 2 x GX2 + 1 x 8800GT or R2400XT, I'm not sure if it is actually capable in terms of SLI.
Don't quote me if I'm wrong, however, in my point of view, GX2 = SLi with 2 Cores back to back, so having 2 GX2s will means Quad SLi already, which is already the maximum of SLi capability. As such, I do not think that you can add 1 more card to run in parallel to the GX2s since SLI is already being maxed out.
I think you should consult nVidia on this as well.

  • Is it possible to use the Intel graphics for the display and use the NVIDIA GPU for rendering at the same time?

I have been trying to figure this one out for a couple of days. I found the CUDA mac drivers on NVIDIA's website and installed them. I have been working in Blender. After the driver install I can now switch between CPU and GPU processing, Great. It works, but I am not experiencing decreased render times like I had read about or expected. It's about the same. While using the GPU for rendering, my OS is choppy, leading me to wonder if there is a way to use the NVIDIA just for computing power?
    Any help would be grand.
    Thanks

    No.

  • Configuring use of clinet certificates for jax web services  configuring u

    Hello dear people,
I have a very simple jax web service under glassfish v.2.1 and I want to secure it using mutual authentication. I could configure using server certificates but I have problems with configuring the server to ask client certificates. The problem is that the clients are not asked to provide a valid client certificate to use the service. The clients can easily use the service without having a certificate.
Can anyone tell me what should I do to have this?
I got the example code from http://java.net/projects/javaeetutorial/downloads and the sample code that I used is in the folder : javaeetutorial5/examples/jaxws/helloservice-clientcert
    Best regards,
    Arash.

    Did you resolve your issue?
I´m posting some comments that maybe can help newer administrators facing similar doubts.
I´m using NW PI 7.1 EHP1 also and some interfaces were developed for using an external site providing web services through SSL (HTTPS) connection.
As in browser navigation, secure sites protected with SSL has a certificate emited by a international CA. We didn´t perceive the "handshake" in the most of cases because normally the web browser has a group of trusted CAs loaded on its certificate store.
With SAP PI and its WAS Java a similar procedure occurs with a small difference. The WAS Java didn´t have the trusted CAs loaded on KeyStorage. So, when the adapter tries to establishing a connection with an HTTPS site (it is a background process)  a "handshake" is required to accepting the certificate and produces a error.
We completes the handshake importing the entire certificate chain (you can upload the site´s certificate to your browser and export it as file) on Keytore under the Trusted CAs view.
Hope this can help someone. It´s an "easy" part of SSL communication.
Now I´m trying to configure the inverse: Some third party consuming the PI web services using SSL. I have an additional component on inbound/ incoming connections that is the SAP Web Dispatcher.
The Help.sap.com is the reference but as always its a little difficult to find the (sequential) path following the links (go ahead, go ahead, go ahead, go back, go back, go ahead)...
