Thinkstation E31 won't boot up, no display, two beep sounds in the beginning

Hello,
I just got my thinkstation E31 SFF today and pretty excited about it.
However, when i pressed the power button, it sounded like everything is turned on (fan sound, etc) then there are two beeps and no display on the monitor.
What is wrong? Can anyone help, please?

without knowing your monitor model, what connections it supports, and if it's set to use the VGA signal as default, this is difficult to debug.   i'd suggest calling support at 800-426-7378 and they can help walk you through everything.
eventually you'll want to change the BIOS display output option to use discreet graphics, then connect your monitor to the Q600.   this can be done by openening the BIOS setup by pressing the F1 key at boot.   the settings can be found in the HMM:  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/e31_hmm.pdf   setup instructions start on page 55.

Make an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP, it sounds like a hardware fault. You can begin booking the appointment using Apple Online Service Assistant.

Try SMC Reset (unplug it from the back of the computer for 10 seconds then plug it back. in)
Try PRAM Reset Cmd + OPtion + P + R on start up.
Try safe boot - hold down shift on start up.
Try booting to install dvd (C on start up) or recovery hd (CMD + R) and using disk utility to run a verify and repair. If you still can't boot after that reinstall the operating system. If you can't find the disc or it wont boot to the disc.
Try single mode which is cmd+S on start up. It will open with a terminal looking window in the terminal. type in /sbin/fsck -TL. If it returns *system has been modified* continue to type that command in until it comes back with macintosh hd seems to be ok. If after 5 tries it still gives you system has been modified. You may have to replace the hard drive.

  • Intel iMac won't boot. Starting chime, then beeping. What's wrong with it?

I pressed the power button on my iMac to turn it on - I didn't hold the button down, it was just a normal press - and it made the normal start up chime when turned on, but after that it beeps twice, then after that it beeps three times every three seconds and won't start up. I pressed the power button and tried again, but still the same thing. I tried holding down the power button to power on to do whatever that does (I can't remember exactly). It makes the long beep sound, makes the start up chime, then the same thing. I'm not sure what to do. I've have some very important files and projects that I can't afford to lose... sigh Can someone tell me what to do?

I've just had a similar problem. My 24" Intel iMac was shutting off but itself. It will start fine and after a couple of minutes it will shut off, till I couldn't start it anymore. It even beeped 3 times a couple of times. Tried everything that was adviced, then I took it to the apple store and they told me the problem was the power supply from the computer, they replaced it and now it's working fine.

  • Won't boot with external display connected

My MacBook Pro (circa 1997) won't boot with the external display connected. I can connect the external display (20in flat planel) after it has started, and it works just fine.
I have tried two different DVI cables (one of which I think is a DVI-A cable) and the DVI-to-VGA cable. The result is the same.
During the boot phase I get the tone, the apple logo and the progress wheel. After 30 seconds to one minute those disappear to be replaced by an empty blue screen.

In case anyone wonders, my "solution" was to change to a WB Elements Desktop 3TB (only USB 2.0 is currently available for this model). I miss the speed of USB 3.0, but it's much nicer to not have to remember to unplug and plug in the hard drive each time I boot.
Still hoping to see a proper solution to this (since I don't have the WB My Book anymore, I can't test adaher's suggestion).

  • Bootcamp won't boot when Apple Display is disconnected

When I connect my MBP to my 24" cinema display everything works perfectly on windows xp through bootcamp, however, when I turn my computer off and turn it back on without the display connected, windows won't boot and just switches itself off.
In other words: If the cinema display is not connected, bootcamp wont boot. This is slightly annoying as now I can only use windows on my desk where the display is.

Hatter - I was hoping you'd find this thread.  Thanks for your help.
More info:  Currently there is nothing on the second drive.  I'm not trying to install Windows on it, I just want it for fast access storage, available to Windows programs.   I've re-formatted it a couple of times to see if that fixed the problem, but no luck.
Obviously, I need to read up on what GUID and MBR are.    Do you think it would work best if I put Windows on the second drive instead?
If so, is this the way to do it:  I use Super-Duper to make a bootable copy of my main HDD reguIarly, so no big issue there.  I've bought Winclone to make a copy of the Bootcamp partition.  Can I then reformat the primary drive to FAT to accomplish the same thing as unplugging it?  (It would sure be a lot easier than dis-assembling the iMac again).   Then install Windows on the secondary HDD using the optical drive and Windows DVD.  Then go back and restore both drives.
I guess once everything's restored, I would use the secondary HDD to run Windows, and use the NTFS partition on the primary drive for my storage.

  • X79A GD65 8D Won't Boot/Post/No Display

    Hi,
Just recently bought this board with the following hardware
    Intel 3930K C2 Processor
    32 GB 4gb x 8 Gskill 2133 Memory
    2 x 590 nVidia Graphics
    2 x OCZ Vertex 3 SSds
All but the processor were in my last PC and worked fine.
I installed the board/CPU but when I boot the PC lights up but nothing else happens.
There is no video displayed and the LED debug screen stays blank.
I have tried it with minimal h/w (1 graphics card/1 or 2 Memory) but this has no effect.
In fact taking all the hardware out entirely gives the same result as does taking out the CPU.
I have read on the forum that the original BIOS didn't support the C2 stepping ; would this cause this issue ?
If so is there any way to resolve without getting a 2nd processor ?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks

Err... Just reading the manual (don't usually bother I'll be honest) .... is JPWR3 important ?  I thought it was for the external SATA connectors (since the expansion card has the same type of power adapter on it) but the manual says it's for 'use to provide power to the graphics card). This obviously sounds like it would cause a problem with video display (!)  but I had assumed that the 2 x 8 pin power cables to each graphics card would be all they would need. In any case I would have assumed that the motherboard would still boot/error codes display.
I'll be really embarrassed if this is the problem .. I have sent the board for testing back in the UK (can't get a local shop to do it) so if this is the problem I can let them know and avoid too much diagnostics.
    Thanks

  • T420 won't boot with 2x4GB RAM (two identical RAM)

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a weird issue that I'm hoping you'll be able to help me with.
My T420 came with 1x4GB of ram (underneath the keyboard) and I wanted to upgrade to 2x4GB RAM so I bought exactly the same RAM again.
Both RAMs work fine by themselves, in the bay under the keyboard as well as in the bay underneath the laptop. Both RAM were tested individually in both RAM slots. The laptop works just fine with either of the RAM individually in either of the RAM slots.
BUT if I put them both in at the same time, the T420 won't boot. It switches on (screen stays black) and instantly switches back off. Without pushing any button, the T420 will then switch itself on again about 3-5 seconds later. This process is repeated indefinitely. I don't even get to see the ThinkPad security screen where you can access BIOS. I switched the RAM around in the slots but this didn't resolve the issue either.
I have never had anything like that before. Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this problem?
Thank you very much in advance.
    Regards
    Lippasti

Has seriously no one ever had this issue? There must be a solution to this since I can rule out that either one of the RAM or the RAM slots is damages since each RAM works fine in each slot separately. I'm only experiencing this issue if I put them in simultaniously.
Is there possibly any BIOS settings which I need to adjust prior to installing the second RAM?
Not that I think it matters since I can't even boot it to the Windows screen but here are some specs. I am using a Kingston 512GB SSD and the other specs are:
Here's the RAM I am using.

The power light continues to flash and I receive three beeps, then two beeps, then three again and the process just keeps repeating. If I hit the power button the computer shuts back off. I can hear the hard disk running but nothing will load. Anyone out there experience this problem before?

  • Macbook pro won't boot and when I tried to back up the hard drive I got "disk utility can't repair this disk backup as many of your files as possible"

My macbook pro froze and initially would not even recognize the power chord. Now it charges, but will not load up. I opened in in disk utility to try and back it up so that I could take it to apple to have it fixed but I got the message that said "disk utility can't repair this disk backup as many of your files as possible". How do I back up the files???

    Nichelle215,
you can try the method described on this Apple page, in the “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility” section. (You can skip step 6, since you already know that your disk is irreparable.) Note, however, that this method is not guaranteed to work. Once you get your disk straightened out, you might consider purchasing an external hard disk for use as a Time Machine backup destination, so that a similar problem in the future won’t wipe out the only copy of your files.

  • Dual 1.8 G5 won't boot, first aid on disk utility failed, and the led blinks three times. I've tried the hairdryer trick but it only works for a short time. Any ideas if I can save it?

I'm starting to feel like there is no hope for my G5. I've updated the os, backed everything up, used the hair dryer and switched out the ram. Still no improvements. I'm just wondering now whether it could be the disk or the logic board.

I guess if it were me I'd try hotter/longer, then never allow it to Sleep except for the Monitor, & set Processor to Highest Energy Saver>Options tab.

  • How do I display two open sites at the same time on screen instead of switching between tabs?

I need to open two different websites using Firefox. They appear as tabs, but I can only view one tab at a time and continually have to switch back and forth. I need to have both separate websites open and displayed simultaneously on the screen. Is there a way to do this or an add-on that will support multiple open windows on screen?

You can open all the pages in separate windows and resize and position the windows horizontally or vertically to have them both visible at the same time.
Note the you can drag a tab slightly downward in the browsing window to tear off the tab or use the right-click menu of the tab (Move to New Window).
