Thinkstation S10 will not boot or post after GPU upgrade

Hello,
I am having a hard time getting this thinkstation S10 to boot with a new GPU. The pc runs just fine with the standard quadro fx 1700 in it. But as soon as i put my ati hd 5770 or nvidia gtx 460 in it wont post. When i put the new cards in i get wierd beep codes. Sometime they are 4-2-3-3 then sometimes its 1long and 2 short. It just shuts down and turns on and repeats but nothing comes up on the screen. The specs are listed and any help would be GREATLY appretiated.
Thanks

  • System will not boot or POST

I have a Pavilion A8 Vision that will not boot or complete POST and does not communicate in any way.  Fans are on, sounds from drives seems like beginning of POST.  I have removed and replaced RAM with other piece - no change.  When RAM is out of motherboard system will report 5 long beeps and repeat the beeps for 4 to 5 times.  Need help and/or advice on replacement of components.

  • IMac will not boot into OSX after startup disk switch in control panel.!

I am having trouble with my son's iMac DV SE (graphite) running Classic and OSX (10.3.9). Typically, the computer runs in OS9 as the startup system because most of the kids' software we run is old and uses Classic. Over the weekend, I changed the startup disk to OSX in the control panels and restarted the computer so I could install some new software. The computer will not boot past the gray apple and progress indicator. I have tried resetting the PRAM, booting from the CD and restarting with the options key depressed to no avail. (Can't do a Safeboot either.) I was able to put the iMac into target mode and access the control panels via my laptop and restart in OS9. I thought I had resolved the issue causing the startup problem, but I was wrong. Now I can't get past the gray apple or access the hard disk through target mode (the iMac hard disk does not appear on the laptop's desktop). Is there a way to force the computer back into OS9 other than holding down the option key at startup? When I try this, I get the hard disk icon, but I can't move it off of OSX. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is there a way to force the computer back into OS9 other than holding down the option key at startup?
Holding down the OPTION key will only work if OS 9 is on a different partition than the OS X installation. If they are on the same partition, it won't work.
One way to get it back to OS 9 is to boot from the OS 9 or OS X installation disc. Then set the control panel, or preference pane, to boot from the OS 9 installed on the hard drive.
Another way is to boot from the OS 9 install disc and perform a clean install of OS 9. This will create a new OS 9 System folder and it will NOT touch any other files on the drive. KB 58176, Mac OS 8.5, Mac OS 9: Performing a Clean Installation

  • Apple programs will not recognize Internet connection after Tiger upgrade

In January, I posted the question below. I wanted to update it, but this site has archived it and will not allow responses. In the hope that I may help someone else, I am repeating my question, now that I have the answer.
    ===============================================
    ORIGINAL PROBLEM
Last week, I upgraded from 10.3.9 to Tiger. Ever since then, I have had trouble using Apple's programs that require internet usage: Safari, iTunes, Software Update, etc. All of these programs think I am not connected to the Internet. But I am; I can use Netscape, Internet Explorer, and other non-Apple programs on the web.
Furthermore, it's not consistent. Sometimes Safari will recognize the connection. I'll be using Safari, looking up websites, when suddenly it will quit connecting, giving me the message, "Cannot connect to the server," no matter what server it is, even apple.com (so I have to use Netscape to access my .Mac and this Support screen).
    How can I resolve this?
    ==============================================
The problem was that my Earthlink Access software was setting a proxy on my connection. Netscape & Firefox worked because they ignore any proxies; the Apple programs (plus Shiira and Internet Explorer) didn't connect because they use the proxies.
Why did it sometimes work? Well, if I first used Safari to go to a secure website of my bank, somehow that opened up the connection and then I could continue to use the Internet and Internet based programs like iTunes and widgets. However, if I tried to use an Internet-based program before going to the secure site, then it wouldn't work.
After months of phone calls and e-mails and sending data packets and all such stuff with Apple Care, they finally stumbled upon this answer: Uncheck the proxy box. And that did it. At first I had to uncheck it every time I started up the computer, but now it stays unchecked and I can use my Apple programs with no trouble.
I just wanted to share this with you in case you also had trouble with Internet connections after upgrading to Tiger, because I did see several other people had this same trouble.
Movable flat-screen iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.25Ghz processor, 256 MB memory (DDR SDRAM)

For the record, could you state each Proxy box you ended up unchecking please? I'll attempt to submit a user tip with credit to you for finding this solution.

  • RE1000 Will Not Connect to WLAN after firmware upgrade

I upgraded the firmware on my RE1000 to v1.0.02 a few days ago; now, the RE1000 will not connect to my WLAN.  The automatic CD program is useless; it won't see my WLAN.  Manual configuration goes slightly better, but still no luck.  If I try to connect via Wireless --> Site Survey, it sees the SSID (and a few others in range) and says it's connecting, but when I go to Status --> WLAN Statistics the status of the link is shown as down (router also confirms no DHCP lease given out).  When I try to configure the connection manually via Wireless --> Basic Wireless Settings, same results -- link down.
I've tried configuring a static IP (vice DHCP) but no change in result.  One odd thing I've noticed is that in the WLAN Statistics page, "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" is still showing as "On" despite it being set to off.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but either way this is getting wretchedly annoying...

I am trying to set up a LInksys RE-1000 for a user who has a working Linksys WRT-54G wireless router which is working perfectly fine both wirelessly and wired. This RE-1000 product was purchased after checking the RE-1000 owner's manual PDF download which confirms it is supposed to work with Wireless-N, G and B though with slower speeds with G and B.
However, the RE-1000 does not connect to the WRT-54G at all using manual configuration with a network cable connected to the RE-1000. After entering all the correct parameters under the WIRELESS - BASIC WIRELESS SETTINGS page that matches the WRT-54G wireless security settings fully, the RE-1000's STATUS - WLAN STATISTICS page simply continues to show that the RE-1000 is "CONNECTING..." but never goes to CONNECTED status. Checking the RE-1000's STATUS - DEVICE INFO page shows that IP address, subnet mask and default gateway are all 0.0.0.0, which seems to confirm there is no successful connection between the RE-1000 and the WRT-54G via wireless-G band.
The firmware on the RE-1000 is already 1.0.02 from factory. Calling Linksys phone support was useless because the phone agent in the Philippines simply gave pre-scripted generic suggestions such as upgrading the firmware on the RE-1000 and the WRT-54G, when the WRT-54G's firmware was already updated to the latest available version.
Can anyone from confirm whether the RE-1000 is capable of connecting to the WRT-54G wirelessly? Or does the RE-1000 require specific wireless routers to connect successfully with? I did not notice that the product / system requirements stated anything about this.
My experience so far with the RE-1000 wireless extender product has been unsatisfactory so far and I am an advanced user with the Linksys router.

  • Mid '07 Mac Pro Will not boot or POST

    Hey Guys,
Well, this is still a bit unsettling. My beloved Mac Pro is having some problems, which started presenting about 3 days ago, and finalized last night.
The computer has been freezing, and locking up randomly. (Though it seemed to vary as to how much stress the system was under). If I was simply web browsing, listening to music, or watching a video, it would freeze 10-30 minutes after a boot. However, if I was working in Lightroom, Premiere, or Photoshop, the system would lock up within 2 minutes.
I currently run 3 operating systems on this computer; Mac OS X Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Windows Vista. All updates for all OS's were installed. Leopard and Snow Leopard share a 250GB hard drive. The drive is partitioned in half. Windows Vista has a dedicated 500GB drive.
The freezes would happen under all operating systems, which leads me to believe that it's a hardware problem. (Memory controller maybe?)
Starting last night however, if I were to push the power button, the power light lights up, all hard drives spin up, fans rev up, but there is no "Bong" sound, nor hard drive access, and no video on either display.
I tried resetting the SMC, and the PRAM, neither worked. The RAM is seated properly, and the riser cards are locked in. (The RAM is Apple branded, 4 gigs worth)
A technician is scheduled to visit my home this Tuesday or Wednesday, but, does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? If you need more information, let me know.
    Thanks a lot!
    System Specs:
    Mid '07 Mac Pro
2x 2.66GHz Xeon Dual Core Processors
    4GB Apple Branded RAM
1x 250GB HDD partitioned in half for Leopard and Snow Leopard
1x 500GB HDD for Windows Vista
2x 1TB HDDs for files and storage.
    Nvidia 7300GT
    Dual Superdrives

    Thanks for the reply.
The computer won't give me a POST, so, running Apple Hardware test is not possible at this point and time.
When the technician visits, I'll see if we can replace the 7300GT, but, I don't think that this is related to the graphics card, as there never were any artifacts on either screen. (There are two)
But, thank you again for the answer.

  • Computer will not boot or post

    Hi All,
Setting up this new rig for my friend.
    MSI Neo 875P-FIS2R
    MSI GForce 4-TI4200
    1 Gig GB-Micro Ram
    1 SATA 120 Gig Drive
    P4 2.8C HT
    2 PATA Drive
    1 CD-RW
    400W PS
Even with all the device not on the board just ram, video, cpu and fan the system boots like the fan is spinning and stuff but nothing goes on the screen. Both power supply cables are pluged into the board.
Even if I don't plug the pw switch cable to the board it still starts when the power supply is turned out. Shoudn't it stay off till the power swich is pressed? Even if I hold down the power switch for 3 seconds to shut down it still seems to just restart.
ALso the usb with with the 4 lights all show green but they never change ever. We also tried an ati 9600 card, different ram, different cpu P4 2.4, and cleared the cmos several times.
I would be very happy at this point to even see the post screen. But nothing happends on the monitor at all
Any help would be really great.
    Thanks all,
    Marc

    yes and no
you can test if your cpu will boot in another mobo that is the same socket and supports your processor even if the mobo doesnt support HT.  to test the HT portion of it tho, you will need to install and enable HT.
if you can get your hands on a test machine, it would definately be a good thing.  you could run isolation tests.  test your cpu in other motherboard.  test another cpu in this mobo.  if your cpu works ok in other mobo, cpu is prolly fine.  if cpu doesnt work, you may have cpu issues.  if another cpu doesnt work in your mobo and your cpu works in another mobo, it is prolly a mobo, ram, vid issue.  try swaping vid cards next.  then ram.  repeat till you find the once piece that doesnt work for either system.

  • 2851 Router will not boot from CF, after reload goes into rommon

I recently obtained a 2851 and have been battling this issue for a week now. An odd set of circumstances happen with the bootstrap startup process. If the router has loss of power or when reloaded; it fails to read the CF card and boots to rommon. I can tftp an image to it (tftpdnld -r) and IOS CAN read the flash card along with any saved configuration.
In fact once in IOS, I can wr mem and print the hardware details of the CF card. Once I reload the router it goes to rommon, fails to open the flash, then sits until i tftp the image back. When the router load IOS, it also loads the startup config.
I don't think it's a problem with the CF card as IOS can read it. I've tried formatting the card from IOS and from my pc as FAT, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS - it didn't make a different. I updated the ROMMON to allow for USB booting but haven't purchased a USB Drive yet for testing. The upgrade didn't resolve this issue either. It almost seems like a firmware problem with the EPROM.
I've played with the config register to see what, if any, impact it had. Currently it's set to 0x2102, putting it in the diag register didn't produce any other errors than what's listed below.
I'm stumped and out of ideas. Hoping somebody has some insight on what could be causing this to happen.

Yes, I have tried different types of CF and USB with the same result. I have "official" cisco 256mb cf and a sandisk cf. I have tried various brands of usbflash.
I added boot system statements to the config to cf, then usb0, then usb1 to see if perhaps one would read. It looks like it doesn't bother after the first device fails. This is only for my studies and I can deal with "tftpdnld -r" every time I boot it. Just was trying to nail down any other possibilies.

  • Ipad 2 will not boot or charge after 2 attempts to restore through recovery

My Ipad 2 suddenly stopped working.  It had the Apple logo and occassionally when plugged in a battery symbol that showed a red bar at the base and no charging indicator.  I tried hard resets, I tried everything I could think of.  I finally got it into recovery mode with Itunes - which I did twice - but the same results at the end.  Apple Logo on screen and battery symbol when I first plug it in - showing a battery with just a small red bar at the base to indicate that it is not charged.  I have charged it for extend lengths using multiple Ipad chargers and cords.
Not sure what to do next.  Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi Ddonatto,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you were able to place your iPad into recovery mode and restore it using iTunes, but it is still stuck at the Apple logo and does not charge. If so, your iPad may need service.
The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • My iMac will not boot up from the Leopard upgrade disk nor will it eject it.

My iMac is very slow and sluggish.  Followed online instructions to use the Disk Utility to run repair.  After doing so it told to reboot my system from the install disk and then run the Disk Uitility to run repair from it.  I put in my Leopard upgrade disk and tried to reboot.  I get the chime and  the Apple logo and hear the disk trying to be read, but after about 5 minutes my iMac shuts completely off.  I have tried to eject the disk using all the methods found in the community and nothing works.  I want to try my orignal Mac OS X install disk to see if that works.  My computer is about a 2007 model.  It worked great until just a couple days ago.  Frankly I can't afford to take it in so I will have to figure this out on my own with your help. :-(

I cannot open terminal.  When booting I get the gray screen with the Apple logo and the twirling comb goes for a while and shut the computer completely off.
    I got into the single-mode user and learned the following: disk1s3: I/O error.  SAM Multimedia: Read & Write failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x03, ASC = 0x02m ASCQ = 0x00.
Singleuser boot -- fsck not done
    Root device is mounted read-only.
If you want to make modifcations to files: /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
I typed in the drutil eject and got:
    SAM Multimedia: Read & Write failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x03, ASC = 0x02m ASCQ = 0x00.
Library not loaded.  Reason: not suiteable image found.
    It did find:

I have tried holding the left mouse key, the eject key and nothing happens.  To bad I can't pull the
    thing out with tweezers.
So where do I go from here?

  • Apps will not install or update, after IOS6 upgrade

After upgrading to IOS6, whenever I try to install or update an App, it says "waiting..." underneath its icon and has a completely empty status bar.  And never moves.  I had 8 apps that have been stuck that way for hours - all trying to update when I did an "update all" from the app store the first time after upgrading.
So I tried powering off/on the phone.  I tried resetting the phone (holding home and power button together).  I deleted all the affected apps.  And now I am attempting to reinstall just one.  And it is stuck.  Help?

The solution that worked for me was to identify the apps that were stuck updating, and then find them on my iPhone.  (You can't search for them, you have to find their icon on your iPhone's desktop.)  Then I deleted those apps.  Then I went back to the App store, and they downloaded/updated like normal.  I did the same thing for the same problem on my iPad, and that also worked.
    Best of luck to everyone.

Hi I have an early macpro that recently will not boot mac os after I have selected the relevant hard drive. I have removed the hard disc taken it to work and put it in another mac pro and it worked fine

Windows won't give a kernal panic or BSOD because it is a Mac related hardware issue.

Your asking about a Mac Pro, but those are not "G5" and the OS can't be transferred between PowerMacs and Mac Pro.... are you sure we are talking about only Mac Pros?
Putting XP and Mac OS on the same drive, that doesn't strike me as what one would do; keep them on different drives.
And, if they are on the same drive, then you really haven't reformatted the drive, which would involve wiping any and all partitions, and then creating your Mac Standard (HFS+ Journaling) and backup XP with WinClone or install it to another drive.
I don't have trouble with Windows, but I do with the Boot Camp Assistant and drivers.

  • Mac Mini will not boot after Security Update 2008-007

    Hello,
A G4 Mac Mini machine I was asked to take a look at will not boot after the owner (succesfully) installed Security Update 2008-007 from Software Update. Booting always hangs at the blue screen after the Apple logo, and booting in verbose mode reveals that WindowServer is crashing repeatedly. Permissions and filesystems have been repaired, PRAM reset, etc. Safe boot also exhibits the same problem, but it is possible to boot to single user mode. Hardware checks out fine with diagnostic utilities.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? Unfortunately, backups are not available (it's not my machine =).
