ThinkVanta​ge System update not happy!

Hi I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue with an X220 (or any other Lenovo product)
"An error was detected with the package catalogue for your system on the System Update Server. Please contact the Support Centre."
I did contact Support and they said they had heard of some issues with ThinkVantage. They didn't take my details, or record the problem though. So hmmm...
This ThinkVantage update came out in MAY. I would also have thought this community board would be flying if it was an across-the-board problem, certainly if it was 3 months old. So reckon the problem is likely to be at my end.
Any suggestions VERY welcome. I just did about 60 updates manually (I thought the ThinkVantage update I put in 11 months ago was working, it wasn't) Ugly.

I am not sure exactly what the problem might be, but one possibility might be that the ThinkVantage System Update software is having trouble detecting some of the computer's hardware.  One way we can check that is to see how Microsoft Windows identifies the computer via Windows Management Instrumentation.  Here's how to do that:
Open an elevated Command Prompt (filename: CMD.EXE).
At the command prompt, type:  "wmic baseboard get product" press Enter,  and note the results—it should be the same as the model type for your ThinkPad.
Next, type "wmic csproduct get name,vendor" press Enter, and note the results.  Again, it should show the model type and the manufacturer.
If the information returned is correct, there might be a problem elsewhere, such as in the system's registry, but this is a quick way of verifying that at least Windows is detecting the hardware correctly.

  • Lenovo System Update not installing a driver

    I reinstalled Windows 8.1 Pro on a X1 Carbon Touch, model 3448.  I then installed the Lenovo System Updater, version 5.06.0027.  Many drivers were installed, but I still have an unknown device in Device Manager.  In msinfo32.exe, I see this in Problem Devices:
    ACPI\LEN0078\5&2890D6990&0
    A web search seems to indicate I need a Lenovo Power Management driver.
    Any idea why the Lenovo System Updater does not identify this device and install the appropriate driver?

  • Windows 7 and ThinkVanta​ge System Update

    I updated to the most recent release of the LSC (2.3.002) and now my warranty is showing. So that is good.
    However, when I go to the fix option for the Lenovo Software updates, and I click "launch" to fix the issue, all I get is a small pop up that says "System update 5" and then goes away after a few seconds and nothing happens.
    Have rebooted my computer and still nothing.  I would like to get all the updates that I need for this machine asap.

  • System Update not working correctly

    Hi forum,
    System Update (Version 4.00.0024) is not working correctly on my T500 with Windows 7.
    1: Not detecting old versions
    SU is not detecting, that there is an old version of Access Connection (5.42) installed although there is a new version 5.50 avaliable. I had to do a manual update.
    2: Not installing a suggested update
    Each time I run SU, I get a suggested update for "Fix for Issue of HDD with HDP Detection for Windows Vista/7". After downloading there comes a meaningless message "package was not installed" (Paket wurde nicht installiert). No hint for any error.
    3: Some drivers (e.g. for the ultranav) have not been downloaded at all - I had to test the functions of some hardware components and download the appropriate drivers manually in case of malfuncion.
    Probably there is a solution known within the forum community, at least this should be a message to lenovo (I received no response from the help desk when reporting this finding).

  • R61 System update not working

    System update is not working: It tells me that it has to install a new version of system update. When I press OK, it shows a message from lenovo and gives the option to install a new version of system update. When I select install the download fails with the message "System Update konnte nicht heruntergeladen werden. Stellen Sie sicher, dass Sie über eine aktive Netzverbindung verfügen und versuchen Sie es erneut". The network connection is OK, or I would not be able to post this message. Therefore, what else can I do?

    Software updates typically add new features, and don't fix corrupted files.
    Either you have a corrupt file, an overfull hard drive, or a directory issue, or bad peripheral connected giving you an issue. Once you isolate that issue, then perhaps software update will work. Is your data backed up?

  • ThinkVanta​ge System Update 3.14 terminated on my T43

    After having installed a brand new XP I have been trying to install the above
    However during the installation I get the message
     InstallShield Wizard terminated
    System has not been updated.  Run the Installation program later to finalize installation
    Has downloaded the System update again, but with same result.
    Any Idea to proceed ?

    There are some files with machine description on them, but I don't know what I have to write in... Has anyone the same model as mine (t43 type 2669 cto)?

  • T540p BSOD after installing driver with ThinkVanta​ge System Update

    Hello,
    today I got my brand new T540p. Its was delivered without OS (Lenovo Campus). I downloaded the ethernet drivers  and the TV System Update on a usb flash drive with my old thinkpad. After installing Windows 8 Pro, i installed the ethernet drivers to connect to the internet. Then i started the TV System Update and let it install all critical and optional drivers. 
    After the all drivers have been installed the machine wants to reboot, but now i am in a reboot loop. Everytime it hangs in the screen "Windows Update 100%" and then I see the blue screen of death (Driver Power state failure) and the machine reboots again.
    Does anyone else have this problem or is there a fix from lenovo?

    After fresh install of win 8 I only updated drivers from windows update. Works fine so far. Upgraded to win 8.1 still no problem. Use nvidia, wifi, intel graphics driver from windows update. Windows could not install chipset drivers. So I downloaded the intel chipset drivers from lonovo. Install crashes with bsod and ending up in reboot loop. I assume it's a problem with the intel drivers from lenovo. At moment I install win 8 again and I will try to install the drivers from intel website.

    At the end of my thinkvantage system update, it showed me "Exception not expected was encountered!". And now my thinkvantage do not work anymore. How can I do to fix it (make my thinkvantage work)? Does anybody know? Thanks indeed!

    can you please first clarify following sentence:
    "I also tried to download manually and intall them separately"
    Do I understand it correctly, that you have downloaded these files using ThinkVantage System Updates (TVSU) and also have tried to install these update using TVSU?
    If that is correct, then could you please try just to deffer these updates/ just download them and then go to following location:
    %programfiles(x86)%\Lenovo\System Update\session
    - find the appropriate update(every folder name is the update name which contains also the executable)
    - once you find the corrcte update, then try to install it manually
    - once you are sure, that this update was installed correctly, start TVSU and check if the list have changed
    If not and you still see the update version, that you have just installed, then this might be an issue with the version detection and might be caused, by the fact, that the update does not write the courrent version.
    However, please test this situation and let me know, the results.
    BTW: I assume, that you are using the version 4.0.0024 of TVSU.
    Can you tell me the system, that you are using this applicaiton on? T60, or T400,....

    I do not know how it was done, yet done, my TV System Update was not working, so I deleted it through 'Programs and Features', I now try to re-install it and cannot. The process gets to a point and then rolls back. I have turned off my Avast antivirus program...
    Please advise what I may be missing or am not doing to get this program up and running.

    To make the ThinkVantage System Update work again you need to download it from Lenovo website and then install it.
    Kindly download the ThinkVantage System Update software from the mentioned below web link.

  • Does ThinkVanta​ge System Update work with IdeaCentre desktops?

    As in the title ... does the TVSU function correctly with IdeaCentre desktops?  I recently pruchased a K330 7727-3GU and receive a "no applicable packages" message before System Update finishes it's search.
    If System Update does not work with IdeaCentre hardware then do we have to manuually download drivers and sw updates?

    Idea systems and Think systems are two different systems with 2 different software packages.
    TVSU won't work with Idea systems.  Yes, you manually update drivers and packages.
    TVSU is usually a little behind anyway with current updates.  Updated drivers get posted to the driver page first, then they go into TVSU.
    Idea systems have their own versions of power management, internet access management,  and security suite.
    Start, all programs, under Lenovo, you'll find the applicable utilities for the Idea systems.
    Think systems have them under Thinkvantage.

  • SoundMax drivers just disappear in XP after last ThinkVanta​ge System Update

    Hi All!
    I have a ThinkPad T61 that I LOVE so much more than my old Dell D620. I'm actually switching our company over to ThinkPads from Dell.
    I have set it up dual boot, running Windows XP SP 2 and Vista Business x64. Both have been running great, and I have installed all the ThinkVantage tools. I even got the SATA to run in AHCI mode, which was the trickiest thing so far...until...
    I ran System Update on Sunday in Windows XP. Since then, my sound has disappeared. I got all kinds of errors from SoundMax, saying the device wasn't found. When I try to reinstall SoundMax, I get the dreaded "The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware". I have uninstalled and reinstalled the "Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver (Q888111)" driver and rebooted each time over and over again. I've removed and let Windows re-find the Bluetooth Audio drivers. I have no exclaimation points for any drivers, and no listing for any SoundMax drivers. I cannot get XP to recognize the audio on the machine any longer. There is no listing in the BIOS for audio.
    The real kicker is that the audio works perfectly fine in Vista, so I know it's not a hardware issue.

    I actually had installed the drivers. The problem was the soundcard drivers weren't even listed in Device Manager - no exclaimation points - nothing.
    I was actually able to solve the problem, but it was a real pain. See the following:
    There was no listing under Add/Remove Programs for the Microsoft UAA KB888111 update to remove it. This was because I had installed it, uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it again.
    So, according to the above link I posted, I had to delete the following key from the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Wind​ows XP\SP3\KB888111
    Then I rebooted. After rebooting, I reinstalled the KB888111 patch from the Lenovo site, then rebooted again.
    After that reboot, it found the sound card and wanted to install the drivers, which I did from c:\DRIVERS\WIN\Audio. Once again, I rebooted.
    After that reboot, I installed the SoundMax software and rebooted again, and when I logged back into Windows, I heard the familiar Windows startup theme.
    I guess a word to the wise is to be very careful what you are installing when using the ThinkVantage System Update. I might not be so quick to update something that is already working fine.

    On my laptop I uploaded Windows7_SP1 T500. After installing SP1, which ran OK, I've noticed that does not work ThinkVantage System Update. 9% below the notice himself.

    Not only the SP1 for Windows 7 isn't supported, but the complete OS is not mentioned in the Installation Readme as supported...

    I'm currently running ThinkVantage System Update 4 (4.00.0030) on Windows 7 Pro x64 and I have the same problem. The program uses your Regional Setting FORMAT  to get the updates. This is the first tab option in Regional Settings (not your Regional Setting Input Language nor your Regional Setting System Locale). Why, I didn't find a good answer to that? The problem seems to persist from the early versions of System Update ; we are at version 4... common!!?
    You can actually override the GUI language of System Update by changing the value of this registry key :
    For Win 7 x64 :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Lenovo\Sys​tem Update\LanguageOverride
    For x86 (32 bits) version, I think this is the key :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\System Update\LanguageOverride
     ... to the language of your choice (EN, FR, DE, IT, ES...).
    Unfortunately, this is just the GUI language, not the language for which System Update will retrieve update from the server. The program will still use your Regional Setting FORMAT for this.
    I've read many post on the topic but didn't find a right solution. The dowloaded software and drivers language should be retrieved as per language setting of the OS not on date, time and number formats. If it's too hard to get the right setting from a multilanguage system, why not simply put a configurable language option? Is Lenovo going to fix the problem?
    For now, the workaround is to dumbly set the Regional Setting Format to the "language" you wish before starting System Update and set it back to your preferred format when all update are installed. Any better idea?
     P.S. Could a mod rename and move this topic in ThinkPad Forum please, because I think this is more related to System Update software than X Series Laptops

    I bought an X200T in Belgium, chose the English version of Windows Vista Business upon first boot.
    Yet some Lenovo  software is still in Dutch.
    The ThinkVantage System Update wants to download updates for Windows Vista NL instead of ENG.  I have already downloaded the latest English version of ThinkVantage System Update but it insists speaking Dutch to me and does not recognize my system as being English.
    Installing NL updates for an English OS is a recipe for disaster, I presume, so I cannot use that tool.
