Thinkvantage fingerprint software patch 7261 doesn't take

X201s
Win7 32, up to date
Fingerprint software 7226
Using system update to apply fingerprint software patch 7261 doesn't work. Just says it didn't install.
I downloaded the patch separately. Seems to run fine, though only once did it say 'system restart necessary'. But in no case does it 'take' - that is, after a restart, the installed fingerprint software is still 5.9.7, v7226.
It's not a huge issue, but Lenovo's fingerprint software is always hit or miss, and I always hope the next update will fix it.
X201s, W7 Pro, 4GB

I'm aware that the patch doesn't install in TVSU.  And the patch only modifies/updates 1 file, it does not change the version of the fingerprint software that is installed.
This week there should be a new version 5.9.8 of fingerprint software for Win7.  This version will include the patch file and other fixes that have been picked up along the way.
Sorry for this trouble with the patch.

  • Cannot login using ThinkVantage Fingerprint software

Hi, I cannot log in using my fingerprint reader. I am sure that fingerprint reader is OK, I sucessfully enrolled fingerprints. I enabled fingerprint login, when computer starts up, windows 7 message saying "Swipe your finger on green" shows up, but when I swipe the finger, nothing happens. Fingerprint reader just flashes green once (when I try to swiper finger, that is not enrolled, orange light flashes, so fingerprints are enrolled fine).
I tried to uninstall fingerprint software and driver, but its not working. I am logging in with domain account.

  • Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software

I recently updated to version 5.9.6.
I can sign on to the computer using the fingerprint reader with no issues, it works like it always has.  However, now when I got to a web site or anything else that requires a password I get the following error:  The requested function requires fingerprint authentication but the device is not installed.  Please make sure the device is connected and retry the operation.
The password manager works fine but only recognizes the fingerprint software when I open it directly.  When in a web site etc.  I need to manually enter my password to access it.,
Need to fix it so I have this function back.  While this software is not as good as what I had on my old HP its better than not working at all

*edit* Go into Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Biometric Devices and make sure the settings are appropriate (and Security set to convenient level).  The Help section in Biometric Devices can walk you through different steps.
Ok.  Can you go into BIOS, under Security, and try resetting your fingerprint data?  Restart and go to a page without setting your fingerprint and see if it still happens.
Can you also make sure all of your Windows updates are current and run ThinkVantage System Update?

  • Z60t - ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software not working properly.

I have reinstalled Windows XP multiple times over the past 4 years on this laptop, but this issure still hits me. I have never been able to find out why it does this. What is "this"? Glad you asked, because I might have gone on for pages.
Basically, the "Fingerprints" and "Settings" menu choices are innaccessible. They always have, even on the pre-installed XP when I recieved this laptop for the 1st time. I only want easy accessibility to the Fingerprint functions.
I have Client Security Solution installed and updated, because I couldn't do worth junk in the Fingerprint Software. After I set up the security, enrolled my fingerprints, and setup my power-on bios password, I went into the bios to reset the TPM. When I did that, I also wanted to change my power-on and supervisor password. With that done, I booted the system. The fingerprint software asked for my fingerprint before boot, and it successfully registered...but the password it tried to enter failed. Of course, I figured this would happen, but when I tried to find a way to change the power-on password saved in Client Security Solution, everything pointed to access that setting from the Fingerprint Software.
I honestly need help, as it is aggravating to enter Supervisor and Harddisk passwords at every boot. As a recap, the menu choices don't even highlight as I hover over them. I click on them, and they don't respond with anything.
    Thanks in advance.

  • T61 Installed XP SP3 - Fingerprint software not working.

Hi. I just installed XP pro SP3 i got from MSDN. I nlite'd it, and everything was nice until i installed thinkvantage fingerprint software.. It bugs the startup! When i type my password for login to windows it takes 3 minutes to get to the desktop. (without fingerprint software it took 5 seconds) In task manager "Winlogon.exe" takes up 50% cpu and alot of memory. Shutdown is also incridible slow. I uninstalled the fingerprint software and everything was back to normal. I then tried installing xp without ripping stuff from it with nlite, but i still got the same problem. So what do i do about it? Thanks!
    EDIT:
Btw. the fingerprintsoftware doesnt work... It cannot display the fingerprint controlcenter.

I can only confirm parts of the thread-owner's post.
I have setup a localized version of Windows XP Professional SP3 (slipstream) and the fingerprint software (v.5.6.2) works fine as regards the logon - no delays of any kind (I am using an administrator account).
However I cannot access "Fingerprints" and "Settings" from the control center's main screen. The links remain black when hovered over. The "Tutorial" link turns blue when hovered over and clicking it will open the tutorial. I can manually open the fingerprint enrollment by clicking its own start-menu-item or by executing enrollbtn.exe from within the fingerprint software's program folder.
But how can I access the settings if not from the control center? And is any explanation available for the inactivation of the two item's on the control center' main screen?
UPDATE: Solved. The fingerprint software is making use of Internet Explorer (the xml files, probably) and choking on restrictive internet settings.

  • T500 Fingerprint software issue

I have an odd occurrence during login when the Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software is installed, and yes I am joined to a domain.  Versions tested to date are 5.8.2.4462 & 5.8.5.6580.  This also occurs whether a user has fingerprints registered or not.
I don't receive the [Ctrl][Alt][Del] prompt when the laptop starts up - v5.8.5.6580 does warn during a manual setup that this might happen.
Without registered fingerprints and the GINA still defaulted from Vista:
    - The login banner is displayed, where I select the [OK] button.
    - Then, 'Other User' is displayed.
-- I select that and am then provided the username/password prompt so that I can login
With registered fingerprints, and the GINA modified:
    - The login banner is displayed, where I select the [OK] button.
    - 'Please scan your finger' is dispayed
-- swiping the reader takes me directly to the desktop
-- using the option [Esc] displays 2 icons - Fingerprint Logon and Other User.
--- selecting 'Other User' provides me the username/password prompt
--- Fingerprint Logon takes me back to the original prompt 'Please scan your finger'
--- should I not select either I can swipe the reader and it will login.  However, the desktop seems to be sluggish to respond
    Machine details:
T500 with Windows Vista Ent. x64
Should I uninstall the Fingerprint Software then the [Ctrl][Alt][Del] prompt is returned, I receive my login banner, and the 'Other User' prompt no longer appears.  It is as though the GINA used by the fingerprint software is not being properly applied.  If this is by design then I guess it's yet another nuance my company will need to adapt to.
Can anyone offer any assistance to resolve so that I can utilize the fingerprint reader?

    GMAC-R60
As soon as you register your fingerprints this is enabled by default.  I still see the 'Other User' listed should I need to log on as another user and select the [Esc] option.  I would expect that using [Esc] would take me directly to the username/password prompt instead of an extended Welcome Screen where I have the 2 options - fingerprint scan and 'Other User'.
Another oddity is that I am only seeing this action displayed on my x64 machines; whereas my x86 machines are not impacted by the same behaviour.

It used to happen on my W700 with Win7 x64 too. What's worse, the FPR worked after the initial reboot after installation but failed to work after a further reboot: it would then hang on "please wait" and increase the password logon time. I uninstalled the FPR software and no longer use it...
The mentioned problem has been solved by installing the latest fingerprint software: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=WIN7-BETA#autc (7wf459ww.zip).

  • Fingerprint software, Window 7 and single logon feature

I have a T400s, when I got my machine and had Win7 rc installed on it, it was somehow setup so that when the machine was down, I could swipe my finger, and the machine would boot up and login directly into my account. The fingerprint reader seem to be active even when the machine was powered down.
I did a fingerprint data reset from bios so that I could do a  clean install for Win7 (released version).  But now the fingerprint reader does not seem to be active until I press on the power button.  Does anybody know if it is possible to restore the previous behaviour ?
It look strange that the fingerprint reader was active before power up but it was so convenient.

Make sure you have the Lenovo UPEK (beta) drivers/utility installed. Go to the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software utility, under Settings make sure "Use fingerprint scan instead of power-on button" is checked. If you don't have such an option, try uninstalling and reinstalling the "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor" driver.

  • Is Lenovo Fingerprint Software = Upek Protector ?

I just found this article about Upek Protector suite being vulnerable to hacking of the registry stored password.   My W520 comes with an AuthenTec (who bought UPEK) TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor.
    http://arstechnica.com/security/2012/09/windows-passwords-exposed/
The Lenovo Fingerprint Software looks like a rebranded version of Upek Protector Suite.  Is this true?

  • Satellite U200-122: Fingerprint Software doesn't work correctly with Firefox

When I first installed Firefox on my U200-122, everything worked fine. LogIn on different sites by fingerprint was no problem.
After an firefox update the problems began. Instead of filling in my username and pw, Fingerprint software popups and asks whether I'd like to register the site (which I did long before).
In Fingerprint setup FF 2.0.0.6 ist correctly installed. If I remove FF from this setup, exit, restart setup and re-enter FF, it all works fine....until next reboot. I tried to install the latest version of fingerprint software - didn't help.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks.,
    markus

There is no solution like Fingerprint Utility update or something like that!!
The solution is that you have to remove and to reinstall the Firefox again to get it working with the Fingerprint utility!!!
The Firefox update damages the Fingerprint registration in the FF and therefore the new reinstallation is necessary!
If you want to know how this will be fixed in the FireFox browser please contact the Mozilla support or the developer!!

  • ThinkVantage fingerprint error 7210001 (object: clsid-not-found(CID_HomePassport::Set))

    Hi
    I have a Lenovo W520.
When i want to open the thinkvantage fingerprints.
There is the followed message: Error 7210001 (object: clsid-not-found(CID_HomePassport:et))
And i can't do anything, the window is empty.
    How can I fix this?

I have the same issue and nothing I can do to fix it unless they replace the fingerprint reader (whole plam rest). After wasting so much time, I got a reply
    [quote[
I went through about 2 fingerprint readers this way. the best I can figure out is there is an odd issue with either bios or the embedded controller when it gets turned off due to low power in certain situations that causes the frimware in the fingerprint reader to be corrupted somehow. This only seems to happen when you have the swipe to power on feature enabled. I would get that reader replaced and then make sure the first thing you do is turn off the swipe to power on feature in the fingerprint software. My 3rd reader has been solid as a rock since I have done that. I hope this helps.
I would forget about trying to recover the reader BTW. I tried everything and even sent the readers to lenovo and they weren't even able to fix them when they were in this state.
I have an idea as to what is going on but lenovo was not able to re-produce this problem on their end. either way you should be golden with that feature disabled, once you have a new reader installed.
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T530-Win7-Pro-Fingerprint-reader-doesn-t-wo... should tell you how to disable it.
after saying all of this I do want to make it clear that I am happy with my T530 over all. It could have used more LEDs for keyboard and ultrabay and battery state in the front and an eSATA port. and a way to route the miniDP port through the intel HD4000 when using integrated graphics mode. and it would be 100% perfect. but despite those things I've been very happy with it and how well it works with Linux. and I've had no problems with lenovo support. I even just got a 4 year extended warranty with acidental damage protection today.
