ThinkVantage partion is missing

Hello,
I accidentaly deleted one disk in "This computer" of my R400 - I didn't know it was that simple - I just wanted to delete a file but instead, I clicked on the disk (don't know the name/letter however), pressed Delete and it was gone. It had about 10 GB and I believe all Lenovo software was on it, since my ThingVantage center doesn't work now.
Can you give me advice how to sort this out?
Thank you very very much,
Jakub

Hello Jacob,
To begin with, can you explain a bit as to how did you delete it exactly? by what means?
Is it not visible in Disk Management inside Windows? if it's not, I believe it's gone for good. Further, I'm not aware of any approach to undo a deleted hidden partition, nonetheless you can try Partition Magic, Acronis etc. given that the partition is still there.
The only method to recreate hidden partition, which I know of, is through RnR discs. In case, if F11 or thinkvantage buttons have also become unusable during startup of your thinkpad, you'd need this:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-54483
Hope it helps.

  • Thinkvantage Rescue & Recovery - Missing TOCfile, hashfile, EFSfile, info file

Have a PC that was backed up with windows backup, inside the windows backup were the lenovo thinkvantage backups. All the DATA files seem to be there. However the TOCfile, hashfile, EFSfile, info file are missing from the directory.
Is there any way to rebuild this data without those files. Otherwise this data I have lost.
It should be oted that I am not sure whether these files are supposed to be present. I just know they exist in other test Backups I have carried out. All I have in my RRbackup\c\0  folder is data files data0 data1 etc.
If there is a way to extract these manually that would be good.
Urgent help requred as I need that data!

I have faced this issue once before with my R400, but instead with my backed up alternate R&R in my external HDD.
Exactly same procedure with what you have stated. I deleted the files in the HDD and then re-exported the images/R&R package out again once more. This time the Thinkpad was able to boot up without any problem.
Therefore, i think it's an issue with some files in your R&R recovery being corrupted or bad

  • Using ThinkVantage with T410 missing recovery partition.

I have just purchased a T410 with Windows 7 professional and a 320 GB hard disk from a local dealer. But I have noticed there is no recovery partition on the drive and it does not include any recovery media as well.
I want to make the backup of the my current system using ThinkVantage backup and recovery option. Can I still create a backup of my cruently intalled windows drive and programs.

It was supposed to come with Win 7 Pro, I suggest contacting the place you got it from:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=2522PY4

  • 3000N100: how to restore when recovery partion is missing

My laptop (3000N100 running XPHomeSP3) is running very slowly and hangs up frequently.  This is not my primary computer; used when main PC is unavailable.  Want to restore to "like new" out-of-the-box state.  My son did this for me several years ago.  I believe he completely reformatted the hard drive and therefore wiped the recovery partition away.  The Lenovo specific features are also gone.  The instructions from the Lenovo site talks about holding down a Lenovo Care button on boot up, etc.  What do I do if none of that is available??  Is there an Fn key that will work instead (F8??, F11??).  I have the full set of 6 CDs.  Should I repeat the HDD reformat??  Will the hidden recovery partition be recreated during the reinstall??  Thanks for your help...  JoeD 20130523

Acronis True Image is the recommend program for ghosting thinkpads.
Norton has got problems with recovery partition and make the drive unusable.
I would now recommend a clean install of first the older OS and then Vista.
Possible you can try the Lenovo mbr kitto restore mbr.

  • Rescue and Recovery and Windows 8.1

    Hi,
For the last 4 years I used Rescue and Recovery on the my ThinkPads to keep backups (really liked the incremental backup feature) and restore single files when needed.
I now just got a new X1 Carbon gen3 coming with Windows 8.1 installed by default and lot of the classic ThinkVantage tools are missing. I understood many of these tools doesn't exist anymore or are replaced by "apps".
But what about Rescue and Recovery? Can't find it anywhere for Windows 8.1 and it's really an important tool.
Any idea? Did I just miss the link somewhere? It's official and this tools isn't supported (and will never be) on Windows 8.1? Any workaround? (like installing the one of Windows 7 and cross my fingers?)
Thanks for your input on that (I'm already hating Windows 8.1, luckily Windows 10 will be better ...)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks to confirm it doesn't exist (for now I hope) for win8/8.1. I will have a look at Windows backup and in the same time think about the downgrade to Windows 7 (also for some other reasons).

  • T60p, hardware ok but wrong software

I just purchased a used T60P with an upgraded Hitachi 320gb 7200 hard drive.  However, most of the ThinkVantage utilities are missing.  The Recovery partition is missing.  Also, the hard drive has been subdivided into two smaller drives of 127gb and 170gb.  Finally, this computer originally came with Vista and now has a copy of XP Pro on it.  I DO want the XP Pro.  Here is what I would like to do:
-- upgrade the BIOS to the latest version
-- install XP Pro Recovery partition from a Lenovo CD
-- repartition the hard drive into several smaller drives
-- install Windows XP Pro and all the ThinkVantage utilities
    My Questions
    ==========
    1.  Does Lenovo sell a CD for upgrading the BIOS?
    2.  Do I just need to purchase Windows XP Recovery disks?  Or will I also need the Vista Recovery disks, since the system was originally sold with Vista?
    3.  Are there any special problems because the hard drive is so large?  If so, should I re-partition it before I try to create a hidden Recovery partition?
    Thanks!

    Thank you for replying, Norm!
    1.  Since Record Now is also missing, I thought it might be quicker and safer to just buy a BIOS upgrade CD.  I'm not completely sure that Nero Smartstart would be just as good.  I do know that I need the widescreen version of the BIOS.
    2.  So you think just the XP Recovery disk will be okay?  That's good news!
    3.  The previous owner said there was some limitation on the size of the hard drive, and that's why she divided it into two partitions.   I don't exactly know what she was talking about.  But perhaps upgrading the BIOS will fix this issue.
I will see about ordering the Recovery utilities next.
    Again, thank you!  Greatly appreciated!

  • ThinkVantage Active Protection for Windows XP, Vista, and 7 missing from driver matrix

Recently, while checking the Software link: http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/documents/ht037696
    I noticed:

If you try to follow the links to the ThinkVantage Active Protection System, you are presented with a document labeled: ThinkVantage Active Protection System for Windows 8 (32-bit) - Laptop or a document labeled: ThinkVantage Active Protection System for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) – Notebook
No reference to Windows XP, VISTA or Windows 7 in the current version of the documents, yet the text file pointed to by the download links states that this driver still supports all the older ThinkPads and is applicable to Windows 7 and VISTA. The text file does say that Windows XP support has been withdrawn with this release, and that XP users should use the previous version. It does not, however, provide a link to any document or mechanism where an XP user can obtain the previous driver.
So, is the document correct, or is the text file correct?
Where is the current driver for VISTA and Windows 7?
When I went to the support sites to see the supporting documents there, I discovered that the ThinkVantage Active Protection entries were gone from the R61, R500 and T500 driver matrices. The only reference I could find to the ThinkVantage Active Protection System was in the above mentioned SOFTWARE link.
    ThinkPad R61 8932-CTO T8300 2.40 Ghz 3GB RAM Win XP

Still no change to the driver matrices.  ThinkVantage Active Protection is still missing. There has been a change in the web site, as follows:

So now there are numerous separate entries, but none of them claim to support any 'legacy' machines. Most of the above entries point to the same driver (at present).  The puzzling aspect to all this is that if you read the text documents that accompany most of the above driver packages, you will note that the text document claims that the driver supports quite a number of legacy machines. That information just never made it to the web page.
So do I manually update a driver because the text document says it is applicable to my legacy R500, or 'believe' the web page which states that only some current models are supported, but not the R500, T500 or R61.
    Very inconsistant and highly unprofessional.

  • Recovery option missing from ThinkVantage boot menu

On my x220 I installed an mSATA hard drive in addition to the built-in disk. I re-installed Windows 7 and all of the Lenovo utilities onto the mSATA drive, then deleted the 100mb system and primary Windows partition from the spinning disk. I did not touch the RnR partition.
Now when I press the blue ThinkVantage button during start-up, recovery is not one of my choices. I cannot get into the recovery partition. What steps are necessary to re-enable this feature?
Thank you. Screenshots below show the in-tact recovery partition, and my menu of choices when I press the ThinkVantage button

Did you install the mSATA using recovery discs from Lenovo or make a clean install?
As the F11 is the only option which is missing, and the only option which is not a direct BIOS command and must be in the Master Boot Record, my guess is that your BIOS / MBR don't know that it should show the message or even know that the recovery partition exists.
How you sort that all out is unknown to me, not one of my skills. Maybe install the mSATA from recovery discs which would then also locate the recovery partition also on the mSATA or somehow edit the MBR which I definitely don't know how to do???

  • X301 missing Lenovo Thinkvantage software after OS re-instal

    Hi all,
The saga of the X301 OS re-instal continues :-)
Everything is seemingly operating as a base lap top, however the lap top after the re-install does not contain it's IBM/Lenovo specific software.
    Examples:
    1. Thinkvantage blue button not functioning
    2. Internet connection is done solely through Windows and not the IBM network connection
    3. Mouse mat works but the scroll page up and across functionality has been lost
    4. Sometimes when typing it shoots the cursor off down the page
I have nothing on the system (hardware) stating that it requires a driver.
    Any help or assistance appreciated.

  • X61 Service Partion, RnR and NTLDR problems

If possible, I would like to get RnR up to the latest, and also liven up the Thinkvantage button. Right now it does not work. I may decide to abandon RnR and perhaps use TrueImage instead. Here's some background.
I tried to upgrade to RnR 4.2 but the system complained about the following:
Error 25013.Error obtaining the Rescue and Recovery environment drive letter.
Error 25012.Error accessing the Rescue and Recovery service partition.
I have successfully been able to backup with RnR 4.1, but can't start a restore or other activities using the Thinkvantabe blue button or F11. I can restore from my recovery CD (seemingly based on 4.2); however, though I was able to complete the process, the system complained that my backups were made with an earlier version.
In search of a fix to this, I created the RnR Recovery Repair diskette referred to here http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=56398&highlight=service+partition ; however, this rendered XP unbootable, and didn't fix the missing NTLDR message that appears when doing F11 or Thinkvantage button.
Upon further experimentation, it turned out that the system wasn't recognizing my hard drive any longer (after the RnR Recovery Repair process). I was able to get XP to boot when using Partition Commander software and then making my XP boot partition active. Thinkvantage and F11 doesn't work, in spite of trying various options in the Recovery Repair diskette.
    A few other notes.
I downgraded from Vista to XP 7 months ago
I have two partitions for XP (excluding the service partition)
    Data (E)
    Preload(C)
I believe order wise in respect to partions the boot partion is the last one. See below.
    http://www.tpchealthcare.com/downloads/diskmanager.jpg
I have not tried, but should I make the service partition "active?" Don't know if this is relevant of possible.
Should I give up? I have done enough customization to my computer that I don't want to restore to original XP state from the recovery disks. If that's the only answer, I will abandon RnR.
    Any help is appreciated.

I have had a good few adventures with RnR, but now have it working fine and reliably. If I had a copy of TrueImage I would probably switch over, as it is a superior product. However, I don't, and TrueImage is expensive.
I imagine that the repartitioning that you made has played havoc with the boot arrangement. The bootmgr supplied with RnR does not seem to like repartitioning. The service partition should be at the beginning by default (?). It is not huge (7GB on 160GB is not really significant) and so is unlikely to rob performance.
Someone here can probably give you a nitty gritty solution but I would be inclined to image the system partition either with Ghost (with -id switch) or with RnR if you can successfully copy the backup to network drive or external HD (make a copy of the copy just in case). Then I would wipe the system with a factory reinstall using recovery disks (you made them right?) and blast the system partition with the image previously made with RnR.
This would obviously take a lot of time but shouldn't require much research or user input. If you do try to reblast with an RnR network attached backup, be sure to 1) backup the RRBackups folder before connecting with the reinstalled system and 2) format the system drive before reinstalling contents from backup (with OS recovery disk of new installation - in your case XP)

  • Missing partitions after running Recovery from previous System Image Backup in Windows 8.1

After running Recovery from a recent Sytem Image Backup the LRS_ESP partition is now missing and the Used space on the  PBR_DRV partition is reported as 95.20MB while it previously reported 9.52GB in use. The WINRE_DRV, SYSTEM_DRV, Windows8_OS and D:LENOVO partions appear to be OK.
