Thinkvantage power manager

My T400 is woeking fine but the battery gauge in my taskbar show the batter as bing not installed.  Everything else works though.  I tried uninstalling the power manager and reinstalling it.   Ihave tried calling tech support but they are useless.  Ideas?

Hi Pheckphul,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
ThinkVantage Power Manager is available only till Windows 7 OS, you won’t get Power Manager for Windows 8 and above, instead of that you can install Lenovo power management application.
To update the drivers and application for your system use ThinkVantage System Update utility.

  • ThinkVantage Power Manager - idle time for screen brightness fixed at 1minute (very anoying)

    Dear all,
    Please consider this problem:
I have just recieved my new X301 which I am very pleased with. However the ThinkVantage Power Manager has a very annoying bug. When creating a custom power scheme everything works as it should (as far as I can tell) except for one thing. Whilst in the "Idle timers" section the first drop down box which allows you to select the "lower display brightness" time in the "battery settings" column I find that I can select any of the options provided, i.e. "After 1 minute", "After 2 minutes", ...etc "After 45 minutes" or "Never". HOWEVER, regardless of what option I select the power manager instantly reverts back to "After 1 minute" as soon as I exit (selecting the "apply" button or the "okay" button does not help). This is incredibly anoying as it means I'm constantly harrased by the sreen changing brighness when I don't want it to OR having to set the "Lower to" setting to the same as the active screen brightness which means there are no power saving advantages at all and I get the anoying flash of the brightness bars on the screen every 60 seconds (that's 60 times in a working hour!)
I have done the following to try to resolve the problem:
    1) updated the power manager to the latest verion: 1.54
    2) uninstalled the power manager comletely and then reinstalled it, then applied the updates bit by bit and checking the problem at each stage
    3) completely restored the entire system to factory setup (formatting the SSD and losing all data and settings...)
NONE of these options have worked. Please note that this is a brand new system out of the box... (cost 2800USD...)
Can anyone please confirm whether or not this happens on their system as well? Is it just me or is this a global problem? I've called the Lenovo ThinkVantage call centre in the US but they couldn't help.
    Thanks for your help,
    AMS.

This is clearly a bug in PM 1.54. I get the same thing with my old X40, Win XP, SP3. I've recently installed PM 1.54, and have the same problem. It has nothing to do with scheduled tasks, as (a) I don't have any (and don't run the Task Scheduler service on my machine), and (b) it happens immediately (ie. edits are lost as soon as I try to apply them).
Does anyone know if there is an official place to log bugs for TP software?
[editM also kicks in with the 'idle' timer while I'm working.I like its functions, but PM does seem buggy]

Install Power Management driver. Download Lenovo Power Manager for Windows7 to desktop or wherever you want.
Right click the file > Properties > Compatibility > Windows7. Haven't tried it myself but it appears people with Windows
    8 say that it's working.

  • THINKVANTAGE POWER MANAGER 3.40 LANGUAGE

    Hi,
I've just updated Power Manager from 3.1 to 3.40 version on my X200 type 7458-CTO and despite during installation I can choose language at the end the software it's only in englis, that's normal? thx

There's a discussion on this exact problem in the German forum. One member has posted that they contacted Lenovo and were informed the problem was known to them. I guess the next update will resolve it.

  • ThinkVantage Power Manager, T61p, Vista

The link here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70601 states the update is for T61p Vista, when you download and install it says it is not for the system. Why is that =

    Hello FiraX,
I also haven´t heard about this issue, yet.
May your software combination and google don´t work together?
I don´t use the updater and uninstall it, after every google installation.
If the battery sign disappears, sometimes it could help, to restart the system two or three times.

  • Heatsink fan runs in Passive System Cooling policy (Thinkvantage Power Manager 3.62)

    Hi all.
I have a T60 model 2008 thinkpad, and its running on Windows 7. All was going well. Two weeks ago, I noticed that it would get a little hotter than usual. As it had been a year since I opened it, I decided to service it. I used the manual and opened up the laptop, gently removed the heatsink, used compressed air to remove the dust and reinstalled it. I also put a pea drop of thermal paste on the CPU for good measure. Put it all back together and it is running significantly cooler.
I usually use my laptop in Maximum battery mode when unplugged, and for that I keep the system cooling policy to passive. My question is, should the fan be running in that mode? Because ever since I serviced it, my heat sink fan runs in passive mode as well, (never noticed it running before in passive mode) and I think it is making my battery run time decrease.
Any ideas on how to fix this or if this is normal will be appreciated. Have a good day all.
    - Ibrahim.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

In passive mode the threshold temperature for when fan kicks in is increased, so fan would spin up to the max speed only when it reaches a higher temperature. But the fan will still kick in.
When you put back the heatsink, make sure the thermal paste is applied properly, not too much just enough to have a thin layer on the CPU.

  • Power Manager 4.42 Not Working T61p Vista 64-bit

ThinkVantage Power Manager is not working on my machine.  I first noticed this after System Update added several new ThinkVantage programs, including PM version 4.41a several weeks ago, but I can't point with any certainty a specific cause or beginning to the problem.
PM now stops working every time during initial (power-on) machine boot-up showing message: "Power Manager Stopped Working".  This seems to happen whenver it is installed by system update.  When I have tried installing PM manually, it simply refuses to install, giving a short message saying it cannot run on my system.  Earlier versions ran OK before.  Microsoft Problem Reports and Solutions is of course clueless about this (and most other crashes).
I have tried uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling both PM and the latest PM driver in several different sequences, but nothing seems to work.  I was hopeful that a recent upgrade to PM version 4.42 (via System Update) might solve the problem, but same thing happens and manually installation still doesn't work.  I also uninstalling Access Connections (which has given me other problems), rebooted, and tried loading both PM and PM Driver, but with the same results.  Something funny going on...
I have ThinkPad 61p (6459-CTO) with 4GB RAM, running Vista Ultimate 64-bit with NIS 2009.  I have installed the most recent BIOS and have other up-to-date Lenovo software via System Update.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I have tried several more things, including upgrading to Visual C++ 2008 in an attempt to get my system to install TV Power Manager 4.42 (or earlier versions).  I still get the same message when I attempt to install manually: "cannot run on this system". Same thing happens when trying to load an older version 4.20a that I found through the forum.
I have been successful in loading the version that came pre-installed on my computer (found in SWTools folder), and that seems to work, though with very basic functionality.  It appears to be Version 2.11.
I would really like to find a way to install a newer version (preferably 4.42), as it seems this is needed to run later versions of other TV software.  I have T61p (6459-CTO) running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and the BIOS and drivers are all up to date, as per Lenovo site.
    Thanks for any advice.

  • T420 and windows 8(.1) power manager

As a two-year user of the T420 I am quite used to the power manager and its extended options. When I tried Windows 8 a couple of months ago I noticed that there were only the standard windows power management options available. Mind you, they worked fine, but they weren't near as good as the power manager of Lenovo.
My question is whether or not this functionality (power manager) is available for windows 8(.1) or will be available in the future?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is no ThinkVantage Power Manager for Windows 8.
Power Plans and idle timers are managed by the OS itself.
Lenovo-specific power options like Battery Stretch and 30-Day Standby can be configured in Lenovo Settings.
What specific feature of Power Manager do you think you're missing on Win8?

    Hi guys,
    I have a T440s,
Is there much of a difference between the Lenovo Power Manager vs the Windows Power Manager?

    Good day.

  • Power Manager for Windows 8.1

Where is Power Manager for Windows 8.1?  (For ThinkPad Edge series laptops)
There is a "Lenovo Power Management Driver", but no application/software to go along with it.
    Does anyone know?

Good day and welcome to the community.
    Please see: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8-and-8-1/ThinkPad-software-for-Windows-8/td-p/899865
There is no official support for ThinkVantage Power Manager beyond Windows 7.
There are reports that some have installed it, but there are warnings that it may(?) clash with Windows 8/8.1 native power management functions and potentially cause system instability.

  • Lenovo Power Manager Win 8.1 (T550) / Akkufragen

    Liebe Community,

Hello again.  I found the solution!! Simplly clean installing Windows 7pro  and getting rid of Windows 8 did the trick. the USB 3.0 hard drive stays connected as long as I like. The 3.0 speeds are great also.  It's a shame I bought Windows 8 on a pre-installed system, but I'm never gonna use it. I like the fact that Lenovo provided the Windows 7 Drivers on the support website for my H535 which gave me the opportunity to install OEM and AMD drivers as opposed to microsoft generic drivers.
Now I need to find a product key. I don't know where to look or if any product key work work. Would buying a Retail box work? Seems like overkill just for a key. Can I buy a downloadable product product key for a cheaper price? Thanks
To add: I found out that the Windows 7 pro x64 retail boxes (DVD, COA, KEY) are about $130-$140.  I don't think I want to buy a key without the COA which is proof that your key is authentic.

  • Power Manager Brightness Control

i dont know whether this was intentional or not, but when the power gauge is not being displayed in the taskbar, the brightness settings defined in the power manager dont take effect on ac/battery switch events.
if this is a feature of the power manager, is there a way to make the brightness controls still work despite not having the gauge in the taskbar?

    Hi,
can you pleas edescribe, what version of Power Manager and Os are you using?
I have tested the current build of ThinkVantage Power Manager and did not experienced the situation as you described.
However to be honest I can imagine this being real, if one of the following in missing, or not up to date:
    - Power Management driver
    - Hotkey driver
    - System interface driver
Please check, whether you have all of these apps/drivers installer.
