Thinkvantage toolbox - How to disable

I have a new X120e that came with Thinkvantage Toolbox.
This tool is offensively in the way.
1. It starts with Windows and sticks a HUGE icon in the system tray. It can be disabled while running, but the settings do not stick and it shows up again upon the next start.
2. It launches pop up windows just like a virus does.
Can this tool be PERMANENTLY disabled, or must I uninstall it?
Thank you for your assistance. I will happily uninstall it if that is the general view.

There's no real solution for the icon coming back, but there are some work-arounds.
There never will be a real solution for this issue, because toolbox has gone end-of-life.
My opinion? uninstall it and never look back.

I did the research and the answer seemed to be to disable the ThinkVantage Toolbox - click on the taskbar and then uncheck (disable) the Toolbox from loading in the toolbar.

How do I remove extra Thinkvantage Toolbox listings in the toolbar?

I have 3 Thinkvantage Toolbox listings in the windows toolbar area, and I would like to get rid of the two extra listings. Does anyone know how to do this? I am using Windows XP

Hi Woronick and welcome to the Forum,
Go into Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs and look for Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox. See how many are listed in there. You should be able to uninstall them from there. I would Uninstall them all and then download and install a new one from support and downloads to insure that you have the current one.

How do I stop the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox update message from popping up?

There are times when I am streaming video, and do not want pop up messages showing on the screen. I do not like pop ups. There seems to be no way to turn off Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox update messages from popping up on the screen. If I could turn the pop ups off, i would. I am running Windows XP - Pro.

Download and install MS Autoruns:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902
Before you run Autoruns, in explorer, get properties on the chm help file and click the Unblock button if visible.
Otherwise you may be unable to use the help file.
Now run Autoruns. Find all likely references to Thinkvantage Toolbox (PC Doctor) and disable (uncheck checkbox).
You don't have to remove the references, just disable them. You can re-enable them later if you like.
Save and restart computer. Poof! No more Thinkvantage Toolbox popups. You will now need to run it manually.

Thinkvantage toolbox is slow

The thinkvantage toolbox looks like it should be useful. Two things prevent from being so. Firstly, I have to give it permission to run every time I run it on windows 7, secondly, it's very slow to load. As a result, on my x61 tablet, I prefer the tablet shortcuts button to the thinkvantage button.

Hi,
according the UAC, that I assume is the message, that you get every time when you try to start this application, you have here two options:
1) dissable UAC
2) use "Application Compatibility Toolkit" to give exception to this application, so that you will no longer get the UAC by start of this application.

Please note, that UAC is a part of the Operating system and it's reactions depends on the configuration that you have made. Toolbox is reading the OS kernel content which will always bring up the UAC, if configured so.
Can you confirm, what it exactly mean slow? How long does it take.

How do I disable the minimize effect that happens when I use shift and the left arrow key? I am totally annoyed by this feature. When I want to select text using the keyboard it slooooowly minimized my current window instead of selecting the text. Anybody? Thanks in advance!

ThinkVantage Toolbox - Update fails

Laptop = T61
OS = WinXP Pro SP3
ThinkVantage Toolbox v6.0.5514.61
Automatic updates is on - when it runs unattended, I get the following error msg in an untitled Windows dialog box:
"The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)"
Windows Task Manager shows that the program "pcdrcui.exe" is running (v6.0.5514.59). I have to manually terminate it.
Anyone know what's going on and how to resolve?

After doing some search on Google, the error which you are receiving could be caused by .Net, Could you try uninstalling the .Net then reinstall it again and see if it helps.

ThinkVantage Toolbox does not run after BIOS update

Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update Tool on my T410 ThinkPad (2518EWG) offered me download and installation of ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility US version 1.28-1.11.
Since then, whenever I try to run Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox I receive a message: „This version of Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not licensed to run on this system“.
I notice that the ThinkVantage Toolbox still shows the old BIOS No. 6IET49WW (1.09), while the updated BIOS is 6IET68WW (1.28).
Any comprehensible instruction how to solve the problem for a computer layman will be much appreciated. Thanks - Jan

I have at least found out why this happened, the program obtained from Toshiba automatically 'attempts' to upgrade the BIOS upon activation. This means that the program engaged with errors without my authorisation. I don't find this very impressive from a company as large and powerful as Toshiba.
Also it may be possible to fix myself if the BIOS installation instructions made sense, extracting the .zip file does not create three sub folders and pressing the F12 key does not start the laptop.

1. Provide ability to ignore and not report disabled device under Hardware

3. Fix the battery status screen where the battery condition and warranty used to be properly reported. Now the information is not correct.

Hi,
right-click the shortcut, or the executable, that you use for the start of the Toolbox, go to Compatibility tab and se the compatibility mode to XP or other OS.
In some cases this works.

ThinkVantage Toolbox notification icon NOT the toolbar icon

How can I permanently remove the ThinkVantage Toolbox icon from my notification area? It cannot be simply deleted and it's referred to as <no title> next to the icon.
This is not the larger icon that appears under Toolbars.

I have the same issue (Lenovo 3000 N100 Type 0768-A85, Vista Ultimate SP2). Here's what the icon looks like:
It has no title and it responds to no mouse commands. It just sits there and I cannot get rid of it. It's clearly a ThinkVantage Toolbox icon.

ThinkVantage Toolbox running constantly

I have ThinkVantage Toolbox installed on Windows 7 64 bit OS, and the laptop is W500. The Toolbox runs constantly. The version is 6.0.5082.25 - Which is the latest.
I always cancel it, and keep it in cancled state, as as soon as I close the application, it will run over and over again. It has become so annoying that I plan to uninstall it, if there is no solution. Looked through the forums, and the web, saw one posting, but no answer. Any suggestion?

could you uninstall all ThinkVantage softwares that you have on your unit and then reinstall all of it.
at the same time could set in MSCONFIG , diagnostic startup only. And in this state, see if the same issue occurs.

Thinkvantage toolbox errors unter W7

Hi,
since last update of thinkvantage toolbox on my T400s i cant run the sw, after every attempt toolbox at first loadsup and start check then it fail with errror and shutsdown

Curious to know is your TVT at version 6.0.5802.24 ? If it is not, do update.
if it is, kindly uninstall. set msconfig to diagnostic startup and install in this manner. set back to normal startup and test again.

T510 - ThinkVantage Toolbox Issue - Domain System Administrator

Hello all,
My T510 is having a weird issue with the ThinkVantage Toolbox. It closes as soon as I try and open it...receiving the message that the toolbox has stopped working. I have un-installed and re-installed to no avail. The quirkiest part of this is that when I log on to my laptop as the domain system administrator the toolbox will launch and work correctly. Logged onto the domain as myself the toolbox will not open nor work. Same goes for the local administrator account...it will not work. The only user that can get the TV toolbox to work in the domain system administrator.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

could you set your normal user account to have admin priv, then set the ThinkVantage Toolbox to run as admin.
after that change your normal user account to what it was before and see if that works.

RTC Accuracy Test error reported by Lenovo's ThinkVantage Toolbox 'Quick Hardware Check'

When I run Quick Hardware Check on my T500 using the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox, a RTC Accuracy Test error is reported. Do I need to care about this error and how do I fix it? Thanks.

judging from that error, looks like the CMOS battery that makes sure that the internal clock is dead.

Thinkvantage toolbox icon wont disappear - tried everything!

I am having the same problem as a couple of others have in previous posts, I cannot prevent the thinkvantage toolbox icon from appearing upon startup. I have tried disabling via unchecking the box in the thinkvantage toolbox settings page, and I have tried unchecking it in the list of toolbars when you right click the taskbar. Both of these remove it, but it continues to appear upon restarting the computer. Thinkvantage toolbox is not in my list of startup programs in msconfig. What can I do???
