ThinkVantage Toolbox won't run on X61s, Win7 x64

I booted my X61s today after not running it for 2-3 months.  It gave me an error right after the Toolbox splash screen:  "ThinkVantage Toolbox has stopped working."  It keeps popping up every 5 minutes or so.  I've updated my ThinkVantage technology drivers to the latest rev. but to no effect.  Any suggestions?  Below is the detail of the error.  Thanks.

  • ThinkVantage Toolbox Won't Start/Hangs

Recently on my new x201 with Windows 7 x64 the ThinkVantage Toolbox won't start, it just locks up. Eventually Windows tells me it is hung, and checks for solutions but doesn't find anything.
I have tried uninstall/reinstalling the version from the website with no change. (File name: lttsetup_60551460x64)
I searched the forum and saw problems with account names that have spaces, but that isn't my problem. (Single word username, no spaces.)
Downloading the installer from http://web.lenovothinkvantagetoolbox.com/index.html#top didn't help.
Since it won't start I can't use the update option inside it to get an update, what can I do? (Not that I am sure the update would resolve my problem.)

I ended up doing a complete system restore, letting LTT update to the .61 version and then applying the Windows 7 updates and it is working again. I sure hope I wouldn't have to do that on a normal basis.

  • ThinkVantage Toolbox does not run after BIOS update

Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update Tool on my T410 ThinkPad (2518EWG) offered me download and installation of ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility US version 1.28-1.11.
Since then,  whenever I try to run Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox I receive a message: „This version of Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not licensed to run on this system“.
I notice that the ThinkVantage Toolbox still shows the old BIOS No. 6IET49WW (1.09), while the updated BIOS is 6IET68WW (1.28).
Any comprehensible instruction how to solve the problem for a computer layman will be much appreciated. Thanks - Jan

I have at least found out why this happened, the program obtained from Toshiba automatically 'attempts' to upgrade the BIOS upon activation. This means that the program engaged with errors without my authorisation. I don't find this very impressive from a company as large and powerful as Toshiba.
Also it may be possible to fix myself if the BIOS installation instructions made sense, extracting the .zip file does not create three sub folders and pressing the F12 key does not start the laptop.

  • Itunes won't run succesfully on Win7

Hope someone can help.  I've got iphones and ipods in the house but all the laptops are windows.  Since going to Windows 7 I can't synch to anything because itunes goes away for about five minutes and ten times out.  I've tried re-installing itunes and I get an error on install.  I've followed the instructions to completely delete itunes before re-install.  Can't do that either because it won't allow me to delete common files/apple because it claims someone is using it.
I have the identical problem on two laptops, one Dell one Sony.  In the mean time my iphobe is down to about four hours of battery life because it needs to be reset but I can't back it up to do that.
Is there any Windows software that supports iphone and ipod that I can use instead of itunes?  Any way to get itunes running on windows?

And what would that error be?  Without specifics of the issue it is virtually impossible to offer assistance.

There is no need to backup an iPhone to reset it.  A reset does not affect the data on the device.
To do a reset, simply press and hold the home and power buttons for about 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

    No, iTunes is the software.

I have my printer networked attached and I can print from my Mac mini.
However, When I try to run MF Toolbox from Applications/Canon MF Utilties I get a diaglog box stating that "The operation cannon be completed because the original item for MF Toolbox can't be found".

    Hi mblue002,
If your laser device was purchased in the U.S.., the correct driver and software can be found here on the Canon USA website, as some drivers can differ in different release areas for the product and function differently.
To help determine if the driver is the cause of the difficulty, please uninstall the current driver, then download and install the drivers from the above link.

  • Photoshop CS4 (64bit) & Win7 x64 problem fixed

I just wanted to post this to help anyone who might be having this problem.
Here's the problem. When you use Photoshop's lasso tool, you can press ALT at the same time, and it would turn into a magnetic lasso tool that you can use to make straight lines.
Well, what would happen is that I would be making a selection, and then suddenly the screen (both screens, as I'm using a dual screen setup) would flicker, and the selection would complete by itself, and I would be SOL, as, obviously, the selection is not what I wanted.
I could replicate this without fail. I'm halfway done with making a perfect selection, and bam!, this crap happens, and I have to start all over again. It happens ALL the time, no matter what Photoshop setting I used. Photoshop was completely updated, and all my device drivers (video card, mouse drivers, etc.) were all at their latest. So I started looking outside Photoshop, as I was thinking it might be another software problem.
After much trial and error, I narrowed it down to Task Manager. I had Task Manager running in my tray. If I closed Task Manager (not minimize, close), restarted Photoshop, and made my selection using the lasso tool, the issue would go away, but would come back randomly.
The fix? Run Photoshop CS4 in Vista compatibility mode. This solves the problem completely.
I know a lot of you will probably say that you have Photoshop CS4 running flawlessly on Win7 x64, but I have 3 computers, each with completely different configurations, one of them being a laptop, that I was able to replicate this on. Once I ran Photoshop in Vista compatibility mode on each computer, the problem was completely solved.
So I hope this helps anyone who has run into this problem.

I confirm he is a blond wanna be.

  • This Version of Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not licensed to run on this system (**bleep**)?

I have a 3 week old W510, Windows 7 64-bit, i7 Thinkpad. Over the Chritmas holidays I was able to start exploring the software that came loaded on the machine. One of these was the ThinkVantage Toolbox which I accessed at least 2 or 3 times to explore the programs and what they had to offer. It worked fine and I was able to view the different offerings inside the toolbox.
Two days ago I used the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools "Update and Drivers" to find updates to the the machine. It found some updates (I'm not sure of each and everyone but they seemed reasonable) and downloaded them all to bring the system up-to-date.
Today I tried to access the Toolbox and was greeted with a License Authentication Failed message box with this message:
"This Version of Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not licensed to run on this system".
I assume it was something in the recent updates that did this. I have only installed a couple other photo editing pieces of software since then that I doubt would have any effect on this.
I certainly can do a system restore back to before I did the updates, but I'd rather not since a) the updates for the most part appeared to be needed and were successful, b) I'd rather not have to update those things that have auto-updated (like Norton and Super Anti-Spyware definitions), and c) I'm not sure restoring will help, not to mention re-installing the other pieces of software that successfully installed.
I have been a good doo-bee poster and searched this forum and other web resources and while there is reference made to some solutions for this, I didn't fully understand them so I figured I would ask here for help before trying anything. I do have Lenovo phone support but trying here before calling them.
Thoughts anyone? Should I simply download the latest ThinkVantage Toolbox software and install it? If so, should I uninstall the version I have now?
Looking for any assistance anyone could render.
    Thank you.
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi again Jim,
    First of all you're welcome!
I have another suggestion for you, it might successfully help you in updating Toolbox to the current version, but for this I'd suggest that you first create a restore point just in case the advice fails. Once created a restore point, launch ThinkVantage Toolbox, give it a minute to completely load/run quick tests etc, thereafter click the green colored question mark -> check for updates, once it finds the latest version, let it download and install, I'm hopeful you won't run into any issues via this approach.
    Keep us posted.

  • ThinkVantage Toolbox running constantly

I have ThinkVantage Toolbox installed on Windows 7 64 bit OS, and the laptop is W500.  The Toolbox runs constantly. The version is 6.0.5082.25 - Which is the latest.
I always cancel it, and keep it in cancled state, as as soon as I close the application, it will run over and over again.  It has become so annoying that I plan to uninstall it, if there is no solution.  Looked through the forums, and the web, saw one posting, but no answer.  Any suggestion?

    hey kourken,
could you uninstall all ThinkVantage softwares that you have on your unit and then reinstall all of it.
at the same time could set in MSCONFIG , diagnostic startup only. And in this state, see if the same issue occurs.

  • Hi.Downloaded OSX Mavericks10.9.1. Won't run Apple Works 6.0, CanoScan Toolbox X, CNQL 3201.ButtonManager SUGGESTIONS

Hi.Downloaded OSX Mavericks 10.9.1.On start of install, say's won't run Apple Works 6.0, CanoScan Toolbox X, CNQL 3201.ButtonManager! Yes, I know AW6 is in dinosaur land (but I don't really want to have to convert 1000's of documents to Pages) and also don't want to ditch perfectly good Canon 9900F scanner. So, is there an update re software to keep both items running if I update from OSX10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to the free update OSX10.9.1 (Mavericks) Suggestions Please? Ta Ian

Regarding AppleWorks - No. It will never run under Mavericks.
Pages will open most AW word processing documents.
Numbers will open most AW spreadsheets.
Keynote will open most AW presentations.
Your Canon scanner may work under Apple's Image Capture software, you'll have to test that.
    Best of luck.

  • T510 win7 x64 ThinkVantage Toolbox does not function

This is my first Lenovo after years of Dells. Normally I would junk the preloaded non microsoft bloatware just to be confident that I knew what was going on. However the ThinkVantage Toolbox might seem to be a useful free utility, but out of the box it does not work. It launches, runs it's diagnostics, but if I click on 'ThinkVantage Rescue and recovery' to launch the backup program, nothing happens. Likewise nothing if I click 'Lenovo Fingerprint software'. The release version is 6.0.5514.60. Am I missing something obvious?
Also this forum appears to have no text search facility, so I can't search for other mentions of 'Toolbox' - again have I missed the obvious?

  • SL300 Thinkvantage Toolbox failure after Win7 upgrade

Despite getting the latest version of this utility - 6.0.5449.31 (using Lenovos Update program installed on PC), the program reports that it has stopped running (after "checking status") and closes down.
Have I missed something here? Surely a diagnostic program should be able to check things without crashing itself.............???

  • Win7 PC won't run upgraded photoshop CC (2014) as standard user

Since upgrade from photoshop CC the PC won't run using the standard user account (which is on the office network) but only run as local Admin (which doesn't have access to the office network).
when opening photoshop CC 2014 the PC prompts for local admin rights, then can't see the files on the network drives.

Thanks Jeff.  The user is a standard user. He's been using Photoshop CC on this same PC for a long time.  Photoshop CC (2014) is not crashing.
In order to upgrade, I had to switch to the local admin account, upgrade was successful.
When my standard user logs back in using his personal, standard user account, he is prompted for Admin credentials when he opens Photoshop CC (2014).  He enters the admin password, but he then can't access the files on the network, as the local administrator doesn't have access to the network.  This happens every time.
He has no problem running inDesign, or the old version of Photoshop, or any of the other suite of products.

  • ThinkVantage Toolbox no uninstall file

    Hi, can anyone please assist...
I want to uninstall ThinkVantage Toolbox from my Win7 machine but it is not listed in Add/remove programs and there is no uninstall file in the PC-Doctor directory folder.
Is there anywhere on this site that I can download the Toolbox file in order to reinstall it and replace the missing uninstall file... or alternatively does anyone have instructions to manually uninstall the program?
    Thanks for you help

I have PC-Doctor installed (Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox) on Win7 x64.
    (1) I find it in add/remove programs (programs and features)  as Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox.
    (2) I find a uninstaller.exe here:
    C\Program Files\PC-Doctor\uninst.exe
    (3) You could also try microsoft mr. Fixit.
    http://support2.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall
There is also a Lenovo Thinkvantage Tools. This is a panel interface to run other utitiles.  It is not PC-Doctor.

  • Thinkvantage toolbox is slow

The thinkvantage toolbox looks like it should be useful. Two things prevent from being so. Firstly, I have to give it permission to run every time I run it on windows 7, secondly, it's very slow to load. As a result, on my x61 tablet, I prefer the tablet shortcuts button to the thinkvantage button.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
according the UAC, that I assume is the message, that you get every time when you try to start this application, you have here two options:
    1) dissable UAC
    2) use "Application Compatibility Toolkit" to give exception to this application, so that you will no longer get the UAC by start of this application.
You can read more on this link about this tool:
    http://dailyapps.net/2008/01/hack-attack-disable-uac-for-certain-applications-in-vista/
Please note, that UAC is a part of the Operating system and it's reactions depends on the configuration that you have made. Toolbox is reading the OS kernel content which will always bring up the UAC, if configured so.
Can you confirm, what it exactly mean slow? How long does it take.
    Cheers

  • CS2 won't run

CS2 won't run, says activation code no longer usable. Been running win7 on this system 3 years. Adobe says it won't activate in win7. Well, it did, and ran just fine. what's up?

I assume when you say "Adobe says it won't activate in win7" that you talked to customer support....
A drive change could trigger the need for reactivation.  Did you tell them that you're running from a mirrored drive?
It sounds to me that they're being aggressive about trying to get you to upgrade when they should still be supporting you with active maintenance of their activation database.
But unfortunately if you can't get them to adjust their database you're out of luck.
