Thinkvantage update INSTALL seems to be frozen

Ouch.  New machine. X100e Win7 Pro 32-bit model 3508CTO.  Did the setup, connected to home wireless, did the Windows patching, started Thinkvantage. So far so good.
Thinkvantage tells me that I need to do an update for Thinkvantage itself.  OK, no problem.  I click the button, the download takes just a few moments, then it starts the install.
The installation seems to be frozen.  It's been about a half hour now.
The install bar initially moved along very quickly.  After about a minute though, it stopped at about 45% (I'm estimating, there are no numbers).  It's been stuck there for about a half hour.  (The text on the bar says "Installing Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox...")
What do you think?  Should I just crash it and start over?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

OK, so I picked up the phone and called 24-hour Tech Support.  (I know, I know.)
Anyway, so after they asked me about a hundred personal questions that had nothing to do with my computer or my problem (sigh), they finally answered my question ... yeah, I should just crash it and start over.
Then came the surprise suggestion:  The guy says to me, "what you should do now is uninstall ThinkVantage and re-install it from scratch".  Ouch.
After hanging up, I rebooted and simply started the app up again.  It does NOT seem to be the newly updated version. I say that because it asked me to update itself again.
Searching for updates... finished
Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox - Version 10
Update Available - Version 55
OK, let's try it again.  Bzzzt.  Frozen again.  (The download went fine again, the install started up normally again, and then it froze at the exact same place. Again.)  Crash, reboot, restart it up again ... yup it still wants me to upgrade to 55.
Of course, I haven't even built my first recovery disk and I'd sure hate to have that FAIL on me sometime when I really need it just 'cause I was too lazy to do the uninstall /reinstall thing.  And I guess I'm 45 versions behind.
Annoying, but I guess that's what I'll do.
[UPDATE: I actually went all the way back by doing a Factory Reset.  Afterwards, I let Windows update itself (not much of an option there), but I canceled out of the Windows Live and the Java update.  I then ran the ThinkVantage update.  Success.  The progress bar still stops at about 45%, but every ten seconds or so something flashes across the screen.  After about 60 seconds, the progress bar disappears, the FINISHED screen displays, and then the ThinkVantage startup screen pops up on top of that (even before you have a chance to close the first one).  But the bottom line is: I'm now running Version 55 of the thing, and *now* I'm gonna let Java update itself and everything else.]
[POST-MORTEM:  I have no idea what caused the installs to keep crashing.  A conflict with the latest versions of Java, or some other Microsoft update?  Maybe some obscure setting I'd set (e.g., I always turn off indexing as one of the first things I do)?  Frankly, I just don't know, but I'm past it.  Now I'm off to try to actually figure out how to *use* ThinkVantage, and maybe create some factory reset DVDs.]

  • Update apps seems to be frozen....says "waiting"

I am trying to update several apps...but I get a message "waiting"... Seems to be frozen, & I don't get the wiggle & X to delete the app..  Any help?

That is because of a queued download. Pausing and unpausing (tap and tap again) can help.
Also, jiggle mode is toggled by holding down any app icon for several seconds.

  • How do you get an app to update that seems to be frozen?

On my iphone4 my boyfriend selected to update all of my apps at once which happend to be quite a few so i paused a few of the updates to later go back and update one at a time. I forgot to go back until about 2 days later and I now cannot get my apps to update.... I went back in to the app store and selected update all and they just seem to be frozen not updating. before I did this i would try to unpause them and a message came up that they were unable to update at this time then below was the option to be done or to retry so i selected retry and the message came up again. how can I fix this?

Sign Out of your Account... Settings > Store > Apple ID
Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
    Reset
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • I am unable to update my apps in IPAD1.  The App icon lists the available updates but seems to be frozen.

I am unable to update my apps in IPAD 1.  The App icon lists the updates but appears to be frozen.  The individual app icons show the space where "waiting" usually appears and do not work.  If I touch the apps icons, I get a message that states..."Unable to download. Do you want to try again." (or something similar).

See if this helps. Reboot your router - unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. Reboot/reset your iPad as well and then try again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/10/os-x-mountain-lion-10-8-1-beta-released-for-dev-t esting-may-include-wi-fi-fix/
Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

  • MacBook Pro - mavericks - software update - install frozen?

This week's Mavericks 'security' update install approaching 2.5 hours... Anyone else's MacBook Pro taken that long? Wondering if it's frozen and if there is anything that can be done (in spite of the warning that interrupting the install could damage the computer)?
    Thanks for any intel/advice.

    Not normal. Shutdown and restart.

I recently bought an iPod Touch from the US, when I was living there. I am now in India, and my iPod seems to be frozen -- the slider won't slide. So far, I've updated my iTunes and reset and restored the Touch. The problem with the simple solution: there's no Genius bar in India.
Any idea what I can do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Reset your iPad by holding the home and on/off buttons together for 6 or 7 seconds till the Apple logo appears.  Then update your apps one at a time.  Do not start the next app until the current one downloads and finishes installing.

Many thanks diesel.  I cannot remember ever having an administrator password. Looks like I shall have to do a restore on my PC and not bother with the updates.  Or maybe I could find my password from somewhere ? When I went into control panel I found a box with administrator and my name and it said password protected so I must have had one at some time. Any ideas on how I could find it ? Many thanks anyway. I always use a password to sign on but obviously that is not it.  Eileen

  • Downloaded update installed, but won't go away!

    Greetings.
I recently downloaded a batch of software updates, including the SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1.
All updates installed perfectly, including the Superdrive update.
Now, each time I start the Mac, the update seems to be trying to install again. A disc icon appears in the doc, and a message box pops up saying something like 'update cannot be installed'.
How do I convince it to go away?
Thank you for any advice you may have.
    Best regards.

  • Newbie glad to learn of forum! ThinkVantage Update problems

I'm thrilled to learn of this forum.  Last year I bought my 4th T-series, a T61 15" wide-screen with WinXP (6459-CTO).  Can it be that the new BIOS (2.09-1.08) or the Power Manager (1.22) updates I just downloaded and installed will really solve the screen brightness problem no one at Lenovo knew how to fix?  I'm trying not to get my hopes up -- I've been unable to use this laptop in dark environments (e.g., next to my sleeping wife) because the screen went full-bright every few seconds -- but so far today it looks promising!
Unfortunately, I also see bad consequences of updating:
       Wireless stopped working;
       ThinkVantage Password Manager icon disappeared from toolbar;
ThinkVantage Password Manager add-in to Mozilla Firefox causes a
huge, empty frame to appear beneath the bottom status bar.
I uninstalled the Firefox add-in to fix the last issue, but now I have no access to stored passwords.  For the wireless problem, I tried (in WinXP device manager) to 'roll back' the driver on the wireless card, but that didn't help.
Have any of you had these problems and figured out how to fix them?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Hello Tim, thanks for the reply.
You asked for details on the wireless issue:  Now (after updating, see original post), the tool tray no longer has the convenient Access Connections icon.  When I boot up at home, AC does try to connect to my LinkSys router as it always could before, and it usually gets halfway, putting a green check mark on "applying wireless settings"  but then it displays a red X below that and there is no connectivity.  The error message is completely uninformative (I think it says "[Unknown]" ).  The router is cabled to my SBC Global DSL modem and to a desktop loaded with the LinkSys admin software.  I have encryption set up (I'm not at home, can't give details, but it's one of the more recent encryption methods), and nothing about encryption was changed by me to cause the failure.  Wireless stopped working as soon as I installed uploads and rebooted.
Glad to hear the PW Manager / Firefox issue is being addressed.  Please inform them that the tooltray icon for PWM also no longer shows.
Oops, big problem.  I just went to lenovo.com and again downloaded and installed PW Manager (tvtpwdmgr32_1011.exe).  Got (a different-looking, green-and-yellow) tooltray back, but when I click it, NONE OF MY PASSWORDS SHOW!  Yikes, I'm in big trouble.
Now some good news:  Screen brightness actually behaved this morning as I worked in the dark.  Good work, Lenovo!  I wish Thinkpad Support USA had been informed that this was a known issue.
Now if I can solve my audio problems:
     - Buzzy left speaker
     - Wave volume setting keeps defaulting to really quiet (2 out of 7 at WinXP's
Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Audio).
     - Keyboard "mute" button acts like a toggle switch (unbelievably BAD idea - think about it).
    Thanks,
    -Joe

  • Last night, mail suddenly lost all my emails, which were stored in mailboxes.  What happened and how can I find my lost files?  I have the latest MacBookPro, running Lion 10.7.2 all software updates installed

Last night the mail application from Apple lost all my old emails, which were stored in mailboxes, neatly sorted by category.  What happened and how do I find them?
Details:  I shut down mail to run errands outside my office.  My late model MacBook Pro was on "sleep".  When I returned, I opened the application, and (RATS!) all the mailboxes were missing.  They just evaporated.
Operating system:  10.7.2 - all software updates installed and current as of 24 hours ago (12-30-11, 6 AM EST).
ln the mail program, the trash folder is OK and the sent folder is OK.
Yesterday, I did no maintenance on my mail folders.
    HELP!

1 - the sudden disappearance of my 22 mailboxes, used to sort the emails that I need to file for future use
That was most likely the result of some kind of corruption, as I've already said, not a bug in Mail.  Have you repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility recently?  That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2 - at random times, mail (or the server) says that my password is incorrect and I must reenter (fix:  usually I can quit mail, restart, and the connection is restored without reentering my password)
This is a known issue, where a failure to respond promptly on the server's end mimics what happens when the password is rejected.  There's no need to quit Mail, just cancel when asked to enter the password, take the account back online and try again.
3 - mail seems to resort the mail in my mailboxes at random time.  Several times a day, I must reset the sort to (a) by date; (b) by desending
Never seen that before.  That points more to some kind of possible corruption in your Mail data or preference files.
