ThinkVision L2461x - No audio - is HDMI connection forcing the audio jack input off?

I have an XP machine with multiple DVI video cards (n analogue blue d connector though). I have used an HDMI adaptor to DVi so I can connect the ThinkVision L2461x to my PC  via the HDMI cable. Video works great, touch is good to (single only). Even the camera is OK. But no audio.
The mute is off, the volume at max, but not a squeak. I wondered if the digital HDMI input was shutting off the audio from the 3.5mm jack. If so, can I over ride this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi gadgetboy,
DVI does not support audio function. Even you have got converter but DVI does not have audio channel.

  • I have HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but no audio from my new Apple TV.  I have checked all connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru every possible Dolby/Audio combination in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

I have an HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but there is non audio from my Apple TV.  Not for movies, music, YouTube etc.   I have checked all of the connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru all possible Dolby/Audio combinations in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

    Hello again Parker -
The basic setup is Digital Cable Box, DVD Player, Denon Receiver/Amp and TV Monitor.  To that I added the Apple TV.  The Receiver only has two HDMI IN slots (one for cable and one for the DVD) and one out to the Monitor.
[I bought a switcher to toggle the DVD and the AppleTV back and forth but just disconnected the DVD to simplify when I ran in to trouble.]
    So now I have:
HDMI from the Cable Box to the Receiver
HDMI from the Apple TV to the Receiver (in the old DVD slot which always worked well)
HDMI from the Receiver to the Monitor
RCA's from the Receiver to the Subwoofer and the other speakers
In addition I have some backup connections:
S-Video, Optical Audio and L/R RCA's from the Cable Box to the Receiver
S-Video from the Receiver to the Monitor
    Wait - JUST FOUND IT!
By going thru the excercise to track all of the connections per your suggestion, I found an anomaly when I switched Receiver sockets for the HDMI links.  The video moved but the audio didn't.  Turns out the monitor was using the optical audio feed from the receiver.  So I disconnected the optical audio and the monitor automatically switched to the HDMI audio feed!   Looked promising...
So I first connected an optical audio feed from the ATV to the receiver - Audio!  Then I pulled it, but the audio didn't switch to the HDMI feed.  It stopped.  Would be OK if all I was going to use is the ATV, but I need the DVD player too and I can't use a switcher to toggle between them if I have to unplug the optical audio each time.
This is becoming a career!  Any suggestions?
    Will

  • Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,thanks, Derek

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,any ideas? thanks, Derek

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • Is there a way to play video through HDMI and have the audio via the headphone socket?

I would like to be able to play movies through the HDMI adapter to a projector, but to have the audio via the headphone socket to a separate audio system.  What I find is that as soon as I connect the projector via HDMI, the audio via the headphone sockeet is cut off.  Any ideas?

Yes, there is a very simple way to get audio out through the iPad headphone jack even while connected to HDMI to play movies on a projector or TV.  In fact, I just did it last night for a presentation.
With the HDMI adapter connected to the projector and your audio jack plugged into your iPad headphone jack, go ahead and start the movie. Then simply unplug the headphone jack and plug it back in.  The audio is now routed through the headphone jack again.
I found I only had to do this once per session.  That is, Iwas able to stop the movie, go to the beginning of my presentation, wait the 20 minutes for the meeting to begin, and when I got to the video clip the audio still played out through the headphone jack to the PA system.
I had built a presentation in a Web oriented training tool and it was running on Safari iOS7 with the latest update.  I have not tried it with Keynote yet.

I am aware that iMacs donot support Blu-ray. However, could I use a blu-ray player connected via the audio/optical digital in port to watch blu-ray on my iMac screen ?

You could connect a FireWire Blu-Ray drive and use non-Apple player software.

  • Is there any way to keep the music playing through the headphones connected through the headphone jack, while also playing the music through a bluetooth device, such as speakers - so the audio is coming out of both devices simultaneously?

When I connect my bluetooth speakers, the sound stops coming out of the headphones (connected via the hardwire jack), and then comes back when I turn off the bluetooth speakers. I would like to have audio coming out of both...
    Anyone?

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

Thanks for that info! Even in my time answering questions on iMovie Discussion Group, I never had a good understanding of when and how Optimize Movie came into play. I always would import as Optimized and Large Size and figured that was good enough. But knowing you got much, much more flexibility doing it the way you describe gives me a much better understanding of the different routes you can take into the Event Library.

You don't need drivers for speakers in a headphone jack.

  • What connector type is used to plug a guitar into the iPad?  Does it connect to the earphone jack?

What connector type is used to plug a guitar into an iPad?  Does it connect to the earphone jack?

Actually you can get something like this from your local mac store. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irig/ It plugs right into the earphone jack and works fine (I own this model and it works well on the go). For my actual mac, I use a Monster iStudioLink, which I have heard will work with the iPad 2 (but with some bugs - see the comments on the Monster website) http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=2440

  • How can I keep the audio on HDMI 100% of the time?

I'd like my 2010 Mac mini to stay on HDMI Audio output, regardless if my Denon AV Receiver is on or not.
I don't think I should have to always have to go in to Settings-> Audio and manually change the audio from Internal to HDMI output.
This doesn't happen consistently, but it happens enough to be annoying.
The wife approval factor on this HTPC has not been great so far. She doesn't like it when I hold her up from her TV shows while I am constantly putzing with this thing.
Surely there should be some way to get it to always 'look' for a HDMI connection, and when found, switch to HDMI audio. I don't see how this could be that difficult when there is video coming out over HDMI just fine.
Any solutions out there besides buying a $100 Geffen HDMI Detective?
This is Apple, it should just *work*.

Is the Denon actually "off" or is it in standby? If in standby,
does it has a setting for HDMI pass through when in standby
and is it set? And if it is in passthrough, is the TV audio enabled?
I know my Yamaha, I needed to set the pass through mode when the unit
is in standby. Also, if I put it in the "off state", complete powerdown, it
will not pass any signals as the HDMI ports are electronically switched.

  • Will Apple tv ONLY work with an HDMI connection on the tv?

My television has one HDMI port and it is connected to my Bose setup.  If I get an Apple TV, will that also have to be connected to the same HDMI port? Or, can it work connected to the "old fashioned" video and audio ports?

The 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TV need a HDTV to be used, so you need a HDMI port on the TV to connect the Apple TV

  • I have connected my MacBook pro with the mini hdmi connecter. The background screen is the only thing that shows up on the tv.

HiI need help connecting the MacBook pro to the HDTV. I have the attachment and have it connected but I want to play videos or video from the Internet and all I can see is the background screen of the Mac. Hope the solution is simple :)

If you can see the background on your second monitor, the solution is, ...
.. your Mac and the external display are working correctly!
You have created an Extended Desktop. The up-down-left-right arrangement is done in the Arrange pane in
System Preferences > Displays > Arrange
The second screen is added to one edge of the first screen. The mouse moves freely off the edge of one screen and onto the other screen.  You can drag and drop files or windows from one screen to the other.
