Third generation 64 GB complete crash

My third generation iPad screen went black and will not power back on. It had 30% power when I last looked at the power an hour before it died. I have tried plugging it in and still nothing, no charging indicator, just dead. Do I have a complete failure on my hand and if so can the data on it be recovered? I have had no problems with it before this happened.

Try the following:
1. Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo.
2. Restore:

3. Recovery:

  • I have had a third generation iPod touch for three years. It's worked fine sice recent,y when it started looseing battery very fast and every apo including the built in ones like mail and photos have been crashing after about five. I uses of use!!!!

I have a third generation iPod touch. It's worked just fine until recently. The battery goes out very very very fast. But the main  issue is that all my apps (which is why I use the iPod, to play them) crash after using them for 5 minutes, this does include the built in apps like photos and calendar ect.. I have had this for about 3 years and love it very much it's not damaged at all. I Have taken very good are of it . Is it time for a new iPod or can I fix it please help!!!! Thanks!!

The battery can be replaced: http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod
As far as crashing apps, it may or may not be related to the battery life. I suggest the usual "restart, restore" routine: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/

  • Safai crashing & restarting iPod Touch (third generation, 32GB)

I've heard some stories of Safari crashing and jumping back to the home screen on iPhones and iPod Touchs. My problem is Safari tends to crash multiple times a day and then automatically restarts the device after the browser has crashed. How common is this issue and Is this happening to anyone else with a third generation iPod Touch or even first and second generations? Constant Safari crashes and device restarts is making me think my device is defective and has gotten me to think I should exchange it.

before you exchange it, have you tried the troubleshooting steps? they will fix the majority of problems.

  • 1st Generation Ipod touch  keeps crashing/going into stand by mode 3.1.3

I have a 1st generation ipod touch that I recently restored to the newest firmware 3.1.3. My problem is that after this restore and subsequent restore attempts is that the device keeps clicking off to a black screen when I use wifi or transition from different desktop screens. The device does not completely crash as once the screen goes black I can hit the home button an slide to unlock. I have found that if I disable wifi this problem does not occur. I have tried to both reset and restore with no success. Any suggestions or ideas?

If a restore did not help, I'm afraid you have a hardware issue there.

  • Third Generation iMacG5 logicboard problem

    Hi all,
My iMac G5 (third generation) just died. Had just updated iTunes and QuickTime, was asked for a restart, and thereafter the screen stayed black and the fan revved high non-stop until I turned it off. Tried zapping the PRAM etc. to no avail (couldn't even hear the chimes because I had the volume turned off before it died). Called Apple support, went through the whole rigamarole over the phone, but the problem remained. Thankfully had AppleCare, and took it into the local Apple Store. Ten days later I'm informed I need a new logic board, and that Apple considers it a "known problem." Apple has none in stock right now, so it won't be shipped for another two weeks. My question is: wasn't this logic board problem specific to first generation iMacs? I thought Apple had corrected the problem? Checked the serial number, but mine isn't covered by their extended service program for that problem. Now I'm worried that I'll end up replacing the board time after time like many of the posts I've read. And I'm concerned about the power supply, in case that's bad as well as (or insted of) the logic board. Any thoughts? My extended warranty expires next November...

All computer components are subject to failure, I wouldn't worry unduly about another motherboard failure after your warranty runs out. Just make sure that when you get your computer back, it is functioning completely normally. If you have even the slightest problem, send it sight back until they correct everything.

Ever since I downloaded IOS 8 my IPad has been slower, stalling and now it completely crashed and I can't turn it on at all!  It's the Ipad 2.  Is there anyway I can do?

    Hey Basketsopugs,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with a third-party application after the iOS 7 update. The following article outlines the best procedure for troubleshooting this issue:

  • How can i tell if my ipod touch is second or third generation?

How can I tell if my iPod Touch is third generation or second generation?  I thought it was third, but now not sure. The model number is PB531LL if that helps.

If it is 8gb then it is not a third gen.
Look at the link above to identify your ipod.

  • When I change the setting on my third generation time capsule to "extend a wireless network", the update fails. Why?

I purchased a new router. Everything is working great except for a third-generation time capsule which will not accept a change from join a wireless network to extend a wireless network as it did before. Does anyone know how to fix that?

You cannot extend a non-apple router..
So what new router did you buy?? If it don't have an Apple Symbol on it.. it aint gonna work.

  • Where can I buy a wall charger for a third generation iPod Touch?

Does anyone know where I can buy a wall charger for a third generation iPod Touch?  I am giving this iPod to my father because I want to buy myself a fifth generation iPod Touch for my birthday.  Could I just get an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 or 4S wall charger and use that?  I used my brother's iPhone 3GS wall charger, when I was visiting him out of state, and it worked just fine.

Any wall charger with a USB port will work. You can go to Target or BestBuy and other places too. An iPhone charger is fine.

  • I have a old third generation I pod and I was wondering how to fix it

I have a old third generation Ipod (very old) Its in good condition but internally I don't know what's wrong with it. I need help finding a way to send it off to get fixed. Any suggestions?

A 3rd gen iPod has a touch (not click) wheel, and four separate touch buttons that glow orange.  Is that the iPod model you have?
There are businesses that fix iPod, and some may be local to you.  A Google search on "ipod repair" and your city should give you some links.  An Apple Store may not service your older model.
If you want to try fixing it yourself, the 3rd gen iPod is fairly easy to work with, because the parts are still relatively large with reasonably sized connectors.  The trickiest step (the first time) is prying the case open.  This web site has repair guides.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
If the problem is something simple, like a dead battery, they are available for a low cost on eBay (and elsewhere online), and usually come with the plastic (nylon) pry tools.
NOTE:  If you have a 3rd gen iPod, as described above, it needs to have a FireWire connection, with a FireWire docking cable.  It will not charge over USB, even though it has a dock connector that fits the USB docking cable. If you are connecting it to a USB port, and that's why it is not working, perhaps it is not actually broken.

  • Does the Ipod touch third generation have an international power supply?

does the Ipod touch third generation have an international power supply?  Am going to travel in Europe and want to know if I need to use a convertor with it or if it has the international power supply and I can get by with the appropriate plug adapter.

They are charged via your computer's USB port. As long as you have a USB charger it will work with the Touch.

  • I have just updated my ipod touch (third generation) and it has taken off safari, it has just dissapeared, what do i do

I have just updated my ipod touch (third generation) and it has taken off safari, it has just dissapeared, what do i do

    Could be two things:
    - It is on a screen and you can't find it.  Try using the Spotlight search feature and search for Safari.
    - Somehow the restriction for Safari got turned on.  If on Safari is hidden and will not appear on the iPod even via search.  Go to Settings>General>Restrictions.
    - Also try resetting your iPod?
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Ipod nano third generation: no music after sync.

I have a Ipod nano third generation upgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3. Now it shows no music music after syncing. In itunes however, it shows data on my ipod. This can't be removed, unless I restore my ipod. Syncing videos and pictures do work fine. I have a G5  OS10.4.11, itunes 9.2.1
Can anyone give me some help?

For sure.    Sorry I couldn't bring better news.
You can find some pretty cheap repair quotes from 3rd party repair companies.  It might not hurt to look into it.
