Third party apps working w/ FCP...

I was planning on taking a motion graphics class to use in conjunction with FCP. Either AfterEffects or Motion. It seems as though a lot of freelancers are requested with AE knowledge. What's the main difference from a video editor's view between (Motion and A.E.)? Are they fundementally the same? Is there something signigicant that one program can do that the other can't? I know they are both robust programs, I am just really interested in the functions that most Video Editors would use it for.

I would say AE is a bit more of an industry standard. I use it, I like it. It has its strengths and weaknesses. But it's VERY powerful (and does 3d layers).
As Caleb mentioned, Motion is a little easier to get your head around. It's very good at doing 2D work. And on the right hardware, the workflow is very fast and intuitive (less rendering). But it also has its strengths and weaknesses. I'd say in general, it's less versatile than AE.
It'll serve you well to know both, but in terms of value as an editor, I think I would recommend AE. Rarely do I see anyone asking for Motion experience and not AE experience.

    Hi All
I have run into problems with my iPhone 4.  I hadn't done an update for a while so decided to get my itunes and iphone 4 up to date.  I downloaded all the latest versions.  However now non of my third party apps work and my largest one has vanished.  I try and open them and they flash up and then close again. I thought the easiest thing to do was to restore so I tried to syn my apps onto itunes so I wouldn't loose them.  However it won't let me sync the apps onto iTunes.  It ill allow me to syn the old version when I just started but since then I have bought a dozen other apps.  Can anyone help.  thanks

Well this won't work for me...
I had all of my apps and music stored in iTunes, I updated to the newest 9.2 iTunes and did a 4.0 update to my iPhone 3G all the while not noticing that EVERYTHING IN iTUNES was GONE. When I got done updating my iPhone it was late so i went to bed... Next day came back to sync everything and thats when I saw it was all gone...

  • What settings work in Health app without third party apps, iPhone 5s

IM looking my for the settings in health that work without third party apps on iPhone 5s.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "settings". Do you mean, what data can the Health app collect? It collects the data from the motion co-processor built into the phone. That could be cycling, steps or running.

  • Third party apps not working

so looks like my friends that have updated to 3.1.3 are having issues with launching their third party apps is there a way to fix this, i also have one but waiting on to see if apple can clarify if there is a problem before i update mine.

The issue is actually not related to the 3.1.3 update.
The issue occurs because the iPod or iPhone is unable to properly authenticate that you are the proper owner of the application. The apps are launched, the device checks who purchased the app, then checks if it has been authorized to continue. At some point in the process a mismatch occurs and the app quits. The easiest way of determining if this is your specific issue is to launch a native app (Phone, iCal, Contacts, etc) and verify that it launches, then launch a downloaded app (Skype, AIM, Facebook, etc) and verify that it quits shortly after launching.
Two possible ways of resolving the issue:
    1) Trying to keep most application data, sync iPod/iPhone, deauthorize computer and sync again, reauthorize computer, and sync again. You may lose music on the iPod/iPhone until the final sync. Make sure it's all on your computer beforehand.
    If that doesn't work,
    2) Deauthorize computer, restore iPod/iPhone, authorize computer, set iPhone up as new device, then sync. This is the cleanest (and in my opinion the best) method but will also not preserve all application data (WIFI passwords, voicemail password, certain saved data within applications, SMS, etc).
To deauthorize and reauthorize your computer account, load iTunes and select the "Store" menu item.
    Hope this helps,
    Brian

  • All third party apps stopped working (crash at launch)

Ok, so there's a BUNCH of people having the exact same problem as I do (search this forum or Google with the title of this post). And I'm posting this in iPad but it does happen on iPhone too. Summary :
Often after an iOS update (but not always) third party apps stop working. When started, they flash open and then just quit.
Apple built-in apps keep working fine.
NOTHING solves the problem : hard reboot (home+power until reboot), deinstall+reinstall one/all apps, restore the iPhone/iPad, buy a new (free) app from the store to "reset" software authorization, de/reauthorize computer, reset password from app store account, deinstall app and then reinstall using the iPad directly (not via iTunes), etc.
I have one iPhone 4 and one iPad with this issue.
Oddly enough, on the iPad, only apps that have recently been UPDATED crash. Apps that were present and left alone on the device keep working. On the iPhone, there was an iOS update so everthing was reinstalled and therefore doesn't work anymore.
Strangest thing : reset the device to make sure nithing is open in the background, launch an app, app crashes and returns to springboard, double click "home" and... tadaam, the crashed app is in the list of open apps. On the iPad, 4-finger slide does even go to that app's screen (which is pitch black).
As I said, 30 minutes of googling revealed at least 50 identical cases. All seem related to iOS 5.1. My iPhone rune iOS 5.1.1 (that was the upgrade) and my iPad runs iOS 5.1 and I'm NOT doing the update until I can solve this crazy thing.
    Please, all, HELP !
    Thanks in advance.

Please, Alan, I know my message might be a bit long, but do read it! I DID try that and absolutely everything else that was mentionned in the other posts about this subject. Nothing works. And it doesn't work for the others either, not just me.
The only thing I can think of right now is to put the iDevice in DFU then make a clean install and configure it as a new iThingy. This looses all stored data and config so it's a pain in the a... and I won't try it unless I'm pretty sure nothing else can be done. And I'm not entirely sre it'll work, either…

  • Does icloud work with third party apps?

Will icloud work with third party apps like minecraft pe, 360 panorama or real MYST?
    Just wondering...

If the developers of those apps have incorporated support for iCloud into their apps, then yes.
Contact the developers of the third-party apps and ask.

My wireless earbuds work just fine, but some third-party apps play audio only through the iPod and iPhone speaker even though the buds are properly connected. Does anyone know why and is there a solution?

Assuming you are using Bluetooth headphones, do the apps have the option to use Bluetooth?
The app should have an option to select the speaker (or wired earphones) or the Bluetooth headphones.

  • IOS 5 Notifications Not Working for Some Third Party Apps

Recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS5. Notification center worked perfectly for a week, but then I noticed that certain apps (Beluga) would not show up in the notification center despite receiving new messages. The home page didnt update with a badge either. It seems as if push notifications for some third party apps are not working correctly.
I have already attempted all of these to correct the problem to no avail:
    1. Confirming notification settings for each application
    2. Turning notifications off and then on
    3. Removing and reinstalling app
    4. Restarting the iPhone
    5. Shutting down and powering up the iPhone
    6. Restoring the iPhone

Having the same problem...  Ipad 2 running iOS 5 working fine.  My iPhone 4s gets the occasional Facebook notification but not much else.  Got home today and had about 5 notifications on the iPad that never came through to the iPhone.  Tried everything you tried and nothing....

  • Third party apps no longer work with bus transportation! HELP!

I understand Apple no longer supports bus transportation (lame) but third party apps, such as SEAtac, OneBusAway, or anything else just gives me a 'no routes available' page. I can't find any routes on my desktop either. Is this happening to anyone else?!
Does anyone know a) how to fix this or b) how to downgrade back to the 7.1 operating system?

    a) you would probably need to contact the app developer about their app, and I would know nothing about your desktop. b) Apple does not support downgrading of iOS. It cannot be done.

  • Notes on third-party apps closing (not really crashing) after a restore

    Hello,
I'm adding the umpteenth message about a problem that, after happening basically with each single iPhone change since my old iPhone 3G onwards, I would say it's pretty common.
I have solved this problem recently with a third sequence of actions, so I'm posting my brief "history of restores" for the benefit of others. I hope I've tagged this post eloquently enough to make it easy to find.
So, in most (if not all) cases of previous restores I've bumped in the classic issue where after the restore process (which, BTW, involves always a few more sudden phone restarts than expected) only the "native" iPhone apps run normally. All the others appear for an instant and then close. They don't really crash because both in iOS 6 and iOS 7 you can see them as "running" by double-tapping the iPhone front button. Moreover, those with active notifications will actually notify the user regularly. Their UI, though, doesn't go past the splash screen.
The underlying cause, also considering it relates only to apps downloaded via App Store, is presumably some DRM-related information that gets messed up during the restore process.
My personal experience included previously two distinct solutions, and each of those only worked in that occasion, i.e. has been useless in the other cases:
The oldest, and still most documented solution, was just to download, via iPhone, a new app from the app store. After a restart, or maybe even without one, the new app and all the others started working.
The second, less mentioned online but still pretty widespread, was to sign out from the Apple Store on the iPhone, and then sign back in.
This time, where I got a replacement for my iPhone 4s because of the common problem of the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip getting "burned" or dislodged, I tried both the solutions above but they didn't work. In the process, I've found other possible solutions that didn't work:
Deauthorizing iTunes on the Mac and then reauthorizing it.
Getting a new app via iTunes and then syncing the iPhone
Sign out/in with iCloud on the iPhone.
I was therefore close to abandoning my 877 apps already configured and organized in folders in the previous backups, and willing to accept the burden of setting up the iPhone as a new phone.
Nevertheless, I still hoped that a "mixed approach" would work and, indeed, it worked.
Here is the sequence that worked in my latest case:
Restore the iPhone as a new phone
Open the App Store on the iPhone and get a new app, not among those already downloaded previously
Open that app and see that it works (actually, after an iPhone replacement steps 1-3 would make sense anyway to check that the phone works properly)
Start a restore from a previous backup
As soon as the apps start syncing again, open the first app already sync'd and check that it works. It should work, that's what happened to me, and so you can wait the whole time required to sync back all the apps.
My experience involves also a falsification of the statement that the problem resides on individual backups. This is false because I've used the same backup, at step 4, that I selected before going through 1-3 and that was not working initially. Moreover, after step 5, I've realized that the old backup I had used was too old because yesterday evening, while I had my iPhone still misbehaving with third-party apps, I took a few pictures that would have gone lost using the old backup. I have then started again from step 4 with a backup from the night after the pics, when I was fiddling to fix my issues. Also the newer backup, clearly done while the apps where "bad", ended with all my apps working again.
Basically, once the "physical" phone runs third-party apps, than any backup would work. The (missing) authorization portion that causes the misbehaviour might be related to the phone IMEI, or some other piece of information that is not included in backups.
Does anyone know a specific thread here or blog post on some website where there is a collection of cases like mine?
I'm not looking forward to seeing what voodoo variation will be required the next time I replace my iPhone...
    Hope this helps.
    All the best,
    Giovanni

  • Formatting music from windows to a mac using third party app

i used a third party app so that i could download music from a pc onto my os x formatted ipod. initially it worked when i moved the music into my itunes library on my mac, but for some reason now a lot of the tracks won't play and my computer freezes if i press play on any track that originally was downloaded onto a pc. is there a way to identify where the songs came from and then delete then from the library without going through each one a seeing if it will play and then having to force quit itunes because it freezes?

From what I know, windows will not recognize the complicated data of a mac formatted device; hence not recognizing it. Macs can recognize a windows formated ipod though, so if you decide to reformat it on windows, then you can use it on both computers. If you dont though, looks like you are out of luck, sorry.
    Hope I helped.

  • ITunes 12 and third party apps

We have a couple third party apps that have been integral to our iTunes media management:
iRingtones -- convenient tool for creating ringtones from media registered with iTunes library
    TuneUp -- cleanup album art
Neither of these works with iTunes 12. I realize Apple doesn't have any control over third party apps, but users should be aware that many of these will no longer function once you upgrade to iTunes 12.
If anyone has tips on how to get either of these apps working -- or any other for that matter -- feel free to post here.

Thought I should post this response I got from TuneUp support on Oct. 29 :

  • Upgraded to iTunes 9.2 and iPhone 4 -- all of my third-party apps missing

I'm not exactly sure where the issue came from, but I somehow lost all of my apps as I upgraded to iTunes 9.2 and the iPhone 4 today. But I figured out what happened and *I have the solution*, which I'd like to share...
This occurred on June 24, 2010 (iPhone 4 launch day). The steps I took to upgrade to iTunes 9.2 and iPhone 4 were as such:
    1) I did a full sync and backup of my iPhone 3GS with iTunes 9.1.
    2) I upgraded iTunes 9.1.x.xx to iTunes 9.2.0.61 (the first version compatible with iPhone 4).
    3) I activated my new iPhone 4 and set it up based on my 3GS's back up data.
    4) When it was done setting up the iPhone 4, I noticed that all of the native apps and their app data were intact, but I was missing all of my third-party app store apps. Note that all the apps on my 3GS were obviously still intact.
    5) I noticed that I had zero apps in the iTunes library (at the top left under "Library"). Thus, with my 3GS plugged in, I right clicked on the iPhone in iTunes under "Devices" and selected "Transfer Purchases". This transferred all of the apps on my 3GS to the iTunes library.
    6) I plugged in my iPhone 4, and noticed that on the "Apps" tab under "Devices / iPhone name", the "Sync Apps" box was unchecked. So I checked it, and it gives you a scary message saying that all of the apps in the iTunes Library (which I had just populated in step 5) will overwrite the app data on your iPhone. I didn't have any app data on my iPhone 4, so I clicked "OK". All of the apps transferred from the iTunes Library to my iPhone 4 with all of the app data (game saves, etc) intact.
So that's my solution. I'm sure this must be happening to other people. My main piece of advice is: after upgrading to iTunes 9.2 and syncing your old phone for the last time, make sure you have apps in your App Library and "Sync Apps" is checked. If not, follow the steps above.
This same issue also happened to my friend, but he doesn't have his old iPhone 3GS to restore the app data from. If anyone has any suggestions as to how he can save his app data, please let me know. Thanks.
    Craig
