Garage Band is recognizing ".aif" format loops but not ".aiff" format loops

All of the ".aif"-formatted loops (from Jam Packs, etc.) are showing up fine in the Loop Browser, but other loops I bought from third-party vendors that are in the ".aiff" format are not showing up at all in the loop browser. They are all in the same correct folder for loops on my system along with the working Jam Pack loops. I tried dragging and dropping a bunch of these loops onto the blank space on an open session based on some advice I read on the internet, and Garage Band processed them (and created new instrument tracks on the screen for each loop) but they did not subsequently show up in the loop browser as I had hoped. Do I need to reformat these to ".aif" somehow? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Just to follow up, draggging the loop folders into the loop browser didn't work exactly on its own, but I got it to work in the following manner. First I went to the finder and deleted the apple loop indexes in each of the two locations where apple loops are stored in my computer (note to Apple: why multiple different folders for Apple Loops?). Then I dragged all of the Apple Loops that were stored in the second loops folder (in the Library under "Audio") to the first Apple Loops folder. Then I dragged both entire Apple Loops folders (required even though the second one was now empty) into the loop browser. Upon dragging the second one in, Garage Band automatically began reindexing my loops and then everything showed up in the loop browser correctly, finally. Apparently both (or all) locations where Garage Band stores loops must be individually dragged into the loop browser to trigger the reindexing process. This process was harder than it should be and I feel like it represents an annoying bug in Garage Band, in addition to the help from this post I also had to google research the problem for quite some time to figure out this process.

I purchased my iMac using the same (and only) Apple ID I use to purchase apps. Third-party apps update fine, but the apps that came with my iMac (iPhoto, iMovie, etc) bring up a message saying I have to log in with the account I used to purchase them.

I used my only Apple ID to purchase my iMac (Intel-based one). I've never been able to update core apps that came with it. I can update third party apps I've bought (like Coda), but when I try to update Garage Band, iPhoto, iMovie and so on, a popup message appears saying "You have updates available for other accounts" and "Log in with the account you used to purchase this app in order to update it", or similar (see screenshot above).
The OS seems to get its updates fine - it's just the core apps from the App Store.
I've only ever had one Apple ID, so I have no idea what to do. I went to ask the Genius bar at my local Apple store, and they couldn't help, and insisted that I must have purchased the iMac using a different account, but I definitely didn't. There are a few posts on non-Apple forums of this happening to other people, so it must be a rare bug.
I'm a little concerned it may affect my ability to update from Lion to Mountian Lion. Can anyone help?

Have you done a Disk Repair and a Disk Permissions Repair?
If that doesn't resolve the problem I would suggest calling customer support about this issue as it is most likely on their (Apple's) end that the problem exists.

I used a third party programme called Mackeeper UGHHH,it moved loads of files to the trash now i do not know where they originally came from or belong!! the put back option is in grey??how can i manually put these files back where they belong?SO upset!!

i have been researching and racking my brain on how to put these folders and contents of them back to where they once were all of the contents of the folder are still in tact AND i have not emptied my trash,my programmes and some of my apps are not working properly now...i use my computer alot for making music and things are jumbled up now...

hello there thank u so much for ur reply!! ok i uninstalled mackeeper now and the put back option is still in grey im so confused...i tried restarting my computer like u said and put back still in grey??!! the files that are in my trash are everything from Accounts,address book plug-ins,address book,adobe,aim.........then stuff like apple,Audio,....to caches color pickers,colors,com.apple.TCC,to DVD player to facebook,google to ilifemedia browser to itunes to keychains to movie effects,preferences printers to skype...my Native instruments files BUT not all of them my garage band but not all of it...it seriously looks like my whole library is in the trash i tried to put things back where i THINK they belong and it just added the item or folder under where i thought it went and didnt restore functionality to for instance google chrome and all my book marks are there....they seem to be only certain things from my library that would have added some functionality to apps and programmes like my garageband is missing stuff photobooth wont work so on.......kinda looks a bit like this thats only the half of it!! No, it is just saying it is a different iTunes library. If your computer was wiped then the original one is gone and the phone does not recognize the library there.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss. To use a device with a wiped or new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer. Your Garageband creations are obviously not iTunes Store purchases and should be restored from the backup you make for just this kind of situation.

The music is copyrighted, but you have a royalty free licence to use it. Because of the copyright I would include an acknowledgement when you use the loops.
The GarageBand software license agreement says:
"GarageBand Software. You may use the Apple and third party audio loop content (Audio Content), contained in or otherwise included with the Apple Software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original music compositions or audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own music compositions or audio projects that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual audio loops may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound effects or music beds."
So don't worry, you can make commercial music with GarageBand, you just can't distribute the loops as loops.

Garage Band 4.1.2 on Power Mac G4 messed up

I had problems trying to change the tempo of the song, it always froze. So I tried to replace my Garage Band 4.1.2 with the same from my laptop that is an Intel one though. I guess that messed it up completely. Even if it doesn't show anything or doesn't tell that architectural thing it would start and freeze right up not loading the play button bar.
Is there any patch for it I can download from Apple or third party that would enable it to run on a G4 Power Mac/10.5.8 ?

It was hard trying to find anything on 4,1.2 for me. Everything was GB1 or 3 at best . There is a cd that's out there but no one carry's it in my town. One good way to go about it is watch all the tutorials & in apple seminars there are 3 videos totalling about 45 minutes of info. Why doesn't Garage Band Make any sound anymore?

I recently installed Pro Tools to my Mac Mini and it works great but now when I try to run Garage band this what it says:
"GarageBand has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers.
(Be sure to install the latest drivers for all audio and MIDI equipment connected to your computer. For instructions on removing older drivers, consult the manufacturers' documentation.)"
I don't know what that means. All I know is that my Axiom 49 keyboard worked with Garage Band the day before yesterday and now it doesn't. How can I fix this without having to uninstall pro tools

Look into your midi driver folder (HD/Library/Audio/Midi Drivers) and see what's in there. Try to at least temporarily move the files somewhere else and see if GB starts up without making a fuss!

Does airport express work with garage band in lion?

Actually I know it can work and there are apps out there to make it work but I heard a rumor that Apple was going to allow functionaliy between the two in Lion. So my question is...

I believe the HP 2840 can be connected either via Ethernet or USB. If connected to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) by USB, only the basic printing functions will be shared out; the scanning, faxing, copying features are not supported.
If the AX is configured so that its Ethernet port is enabled, the it may be possible to gain all of the printer's features by connecting it to the AX by Ethernet. In this case, the printer will use its own Print server to share out all of these features.

Garage band wont work, need to install midi or audio drivers?

tried backing up my comp to install OSX leopard but failed. now garage band wont work! I keep getting this message...also want to know if its possible to upgrade to osx leopard with a 4th gen macbook that runs osx 10.4.11

Im having the same problem, I upgraded my IMAC and was using tiger and I upgraded it to MAC 10.5.7, now GarageBand wont work saying my midi and audio drivers arent correct. My Reason 4.0 wont start either saying the same thing failed to open the midi library. My Protools works fine but I dont know how to update the audio and midi drivers that it matches the software I uploaded. I also went to the audio midi set up and it read, Audio MIDI Setup was unable to launch the MIDI Server. This means that you will be unable to view or edit your MIDI configurations.
Improperly written MIDI drivers can prevent the MIDI Server from launching successfully. If you have recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and then relaunching Audio MIDI Setup. If Audio MIDI Setup works correctly after that, then please contact the driver's manufacturer for further support.

Garage Band Audio Drivers

After Upgrading my OS to 10.5.8 from 10.4.1 I am unable to run Garageband '08. When I try to play one of my old projects the following message appears:

Can someone please tell me what the latest drivers are and what is a reliable place to acquire them.
I did download and installed PACE drivers, which I believe allow you to open protected files.

Thanks for the prompt reply Cristoph. That is exactly what I did. It turns out there were a few prior discussions
regarding this issue, all advocating for the same method: I went to the Library folder, took out both Digidesign drivers from the Audio Midi Folder created a new folder within the Library and dumped them into it.
Voilå!! Garage Band works again! Thank you.

Garage Band MIDI conflict

Hey there,
Has anyone here ever had a problem getting into Garage Band with this popping up?
"garageband has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers"
it says I have to figure out how to delete old MIDI drivers but i have no idea where i start with that.
Can anyone HELP??

I'm getting this problem too, and can't figure out from any of the above tips how to solve it. What do you mean "using an interface"? Yesterday I installed the latest version of "SoundSource," a simple chooser that switches between my EDIROL stereo output and my Logitech headset.
The only "driver" in my HD>Library>Audio>Midi driver folder is called EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin, and I put it in a temp folder for several startups and had the same probs.
Garageband launches, shows the "midi driver conflict" error, will not play at all, and then hangs on Quit, so I have to force quit to get out of it. Also removed all the pref files suggested above, again no luck. Why is it doing this all of the sudden?
Next steps: Reinstall GB? Stuck in the middle of production!!!!!

Garage Band not opening!

It is hard to advise, how to uninstall. If the application, that installed the plug-ins has an uninstaller, try to run that uninstaller. Or look at the manufacturer's web site on how to uninstall.
Audio plug-ins are usually installed in the system Library in the Folders
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
or in your user library
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
Open these folder, for example by using the Finder's GO menu:
"Finder > GO > Go to folder" and enter one of the paths above.
If you can identify the offending plug-ins, remove them and restart the Mac.

Are there any ill effects from removing Garage Band?

Can I uninstall Garage Band with no ill effects to my operating system? I don't want it--but if I'm going to mess something up by removing it, I'll leave it.

No problem at all. Drag the Garageband icon from the Applications folder to the trash, then go to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support and drag the Garageband folder from there to the trash.
Similarly with your home folder > Library > Application Support > Garageband.
In home folder > Library > Preferences there are 3 plist files;
It doesn't matter if you leave them, as they use little space, but trash them if you're comfortable doing so.
Apple Loops;
There's also a Garageband folder in home > Music
Macintosh HD > Users > shared > GarageBand Demo Songs.
Also any third party loops (Dance Packs etc.) which may be lurking in your home folder or Applications folder. (Only if you've installed them).
Might be a few other bits scattered around, but nothing to worry about.

I assume that by master reinstall you mean you erased the hard drive and then reinstalled the operating system. The programs will have to be redownloaded from the App store. If you bought the computer new it won't cost you anything to download them. If you purchased it used from a third party the programs belong to that person's Apple ID and you'll have to purchase them.
