Third party backup software, how is the log sequence working?

Me and a colleague had a discussion about how third party software and full backups locally on the SQL works together.
If we use TSM that do full backups and then logbackups every hour in between for example.
If I between the two full backups from TSM accidently do a "non copy-only" full backup do I then also break the whole log sequence backup from then and untill the next TSM backup is?
Or can I use the full backup from my mistake and then take the log backups from TSM that occured after that fail and restore the database?
I guess this depends on the third party backup software, but in my mind it should work but according to him it doesn't.
Try to "paint" how I mean:
I = full TSM backup
- = log TSM
F = my fail backup full but not copy only.
I---F-------I
^ is where I would want to restore with both my full one and the logs from TSM. Hope you understand what I mean.

yes, you should be able to use the full backup taken in middle and use the rest of the log backups taken afterwards to restore the database.while I do not use TSM, we use QUEST(DELL) LITESPEED, that takes full backup once a day and log backups
every 15mins.
if someone accidentally takes full backup in the middle of day with out 'copy only',
log sequence will break and successive log backups depend on this full back up.
while this should be prevented from happening in first place, you can still restore from native full backup and then apply log backups taken from third party taken after the  native Full backup.
if this happens, I would restore the FULLBACKP with NORECOVERY using NATIVE SQL and then use  lite speed syntax to restore the log backups.Remember, native sql cannot read third party formatted backups(atleast litespeed), thats why I restore the full backup
using native sql, since it was taken with native sql backup and log backups using litespeed syntax.
Hope it Helps!!
Thanks, well it was just a theory discussion we had about the issue. But none of us could find info on the internet easy to prove our point :) Thanks.

  • Third party backup software support for dataguard configurations

Any Oracle document about the subject?
I would be interested in an answer about backupexec 2010 r2 in particular, because reading the manual for its oracle agent there is information about Oracle/RMAN and RAC support, but nothing about Dataguard integration, that could be a value added.
Anyone using third party backup agents in a Dataguard configuration?
Interested in version 11gR2 on Linux.

  • Third party backup software help.

    Hi!
I have zero computer skills and want to backup two virtual machines at my office.  I created an Azure account and set up a backup schedule to a "backup container" at Microsoft.  Went online and some said it is cheaper to store data in
a "storage container" as a  BLOB, and will save $10. per month and will only cost $.024 per Gig.  They recommended a third party like Cloudberry to configure the backup process and manage the storage.  Does anyone (not affiliated with
the companys) have any advice on which product works well and is as idiot (me) proof as possible?

    Hi,
You can use the Following link with the Video which guides you through on how to setup Cloudberry with you Azure account and setting up a storage account and container.
Once you have done that, you can follow the Backup wizard in Cloudberry to create the backup.

      Hope this helps.

  • Third-party backup software

    Hello,
I have just read that you can restore Windows 2008 to a different hardware, like Windows 7.
I was wondering: Is there the need of third-party software anymore?. I mean, you just backup the whole system in a network share or a san volume or elsewhere (outside the 2008 box), and that is that, no Acronis anymore.
Am I missing something?. To me, it looks so great.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Luis,
We can use bare metal restore process for windows server 2008 to restore it on dissimilar hardware.
Using inbuit windows backup admin console it is possible to restore windows 2008 or windows 7 on a different hardware, however for windows server 2008 you need to be cautious about the scsi/raid controller drivers.

  • The best third party recovery software for  OS X?

Can someone please recommend the best third party recovery software for  OS X. Accidentally emtied my trash when I shouldn't have.
    Thank you for your help.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Oracle Third Party Backup tools

What are some third party backup programs that people are using with oracle these days? Also when using third party backup tools, do these tools shutdown the database while backing up? Does the Archive Log mode need to be enable as well? Not big on Oracle so simple answers would work.
    thanks.

I wouls suggest to go with RMAN. it's best tool and free.....Best third party backup tool is BMC SQL Backtrack.

  • Third Party Backups

    Hello,
Can you tell me if third party vendor software and scripts are managing and taking our Oracle Databases backups
will Oracle Support repair these backups if need ? or is the up to the third party vendor ?
    Thanks,

It's ultimately going to depend on what the problem is. Typically, submitting an SR with Oracle will help determine if the problem is Oracle's or the 3rd party vendors.

  • Integration between SAP and third party tax software

can some body explain me or provide me docs regarding integration between sap and third party tax software like vertex.
    Thanks

    Hi
First configure the same via the following menu path:
    1.) IMG>Financial accounting>Financial accounting global settings>Taxes on sales/purchases>Basic settings>External tax calculation>Define physical destination
2.) Then test connection (option is available there).
3.) If the connection is successful, also verify that the external tax package installed supports the R/3 4.6 version of the API. You do that by going to:
    System Information>Function List
Check if the following functions are listed:
    • RFC_CALCULATE_TAXES_DOC
    • RFC_UPDATE_TAXES_DOC
    • RFC_FORCE_TAXES_DOC
    • RFC_DETERMINE_JURISDICTION
4.) Then test the tax data retrieval:
From SE37, select the relevant function modules like RFC_DETERMINE_JURISDICTION.
The above 4 steps are necessary to satisfy that the RFC connection is established
    Hope useful

  • Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Answer found. Please find below an amazon review explicitly mentioning adding third party foam tips. Sounds like they fit and work like a dream:
"As a audio engineer, I own about a dozen different sets of earphones and in-ear 'phones. My favorite, by far, are my sure SE530s. I have some Sennheiser cx400s which are good workhorses, but lack the finesse, clarity and stunning accuracy of the Shures. For convenience, I bought the Apple's, as I wanted something I could use with the phone for calls.
I found the sound to be quite clear and beautifully clean, but like many, no matter how I tried, the stock Apple tips never made a good seal. The seal is absolutely essential to getting bass out of a balanced armature design. For you non-engineers, just trust me that if you don't have a proper seal, you will have no bass.
In my case, I think the trouble had to do with the largest size being a tiny bit too small, and the silicon being too rigid, yet slick, so they left small airgaps and were easy to remove. I tried using some foam tips from a third party, but their large was more of a medium, and never came close to a snug fit.
As an experiment, I dug around in my ear-tips from my Shure's and tried their rubber tips which are about the same size as Apple's large tips, but made of a more pliant and slightly sticky rubber.
OMG, what a transformation. Suddenly the sound blossomed, the bass became rich and well balanced, and the "top-heavy" sound was totally mellowed into a rich, well balanced and incredibly detailed presentation.
Make no mistake, these are the best 'phones under $200 I have ever heard. The bass is deep and warm, very detailed, and totally lacking fuzz or buzz that I can hear in the Sennheiser set. Look at getting tips from a better headphone. The trick is it has to have a soft rubber base that can expand over Apple's slightly larger stub. Some tips, like the Shure foam tips, have a rigid plastic sleave in the tip to keep it's position correct, and these won't expand over the larger Apple posts."

  • Third Party IMAP Software?

I'm a new BB owner! (switched from a Palm Centro) I've read most of the message threads about the BIS software for IMAP mail. Unfortunately I need something a little more comprehensive. Are there any third party apps out there for the Curve that will do folder-based IMAP?

If you are using Safari, then its data only. If you are using SMS, then it counts as text messages.

  • Third Party Scanner Software

Is there such a thing as Third Party Scanner Software?
If so, does anyone have any recomendations?

Vuescan is the way to go and it is updated regularly (almost weekly). Its interface is quirky but thorough reading of the manual and some of the related links is worthwhile.
It has been a great investment for me in scanning old slides on an older scanner,
It has a rich feature set. You can multiscan and alter exposures

  • 3rd party Backup Software ..

    HI,
We are on APPS 11.5.10.2 & DB 10.0.2.0.4

Why we need to use 3 rd party tool for TAPE? Ex- Veritas ...
What is the advanatge by using 3rd party tool if we are using Disk to take backup?

Why we need to use 3 rd party tool for TAPE? Ex- Veritas ...There are many features that are available of those software which can be used and the standard OS backup cannot provide.
