Third Party Chargers

So I have a BB charger that is 5V and .750A and it charges the Playbook (slowly, but still).
I have a monoprice 2-usb port charger that is 5V/1A and while it charges everything else the Playbook won't charge (even if the other port is empty so all 1A is going to the PB).  Am I missing something?  I'm using the same BB supplied USB cord...
Is there something unique I should be looking for in buying a cheap spare charger?  Lenmar says this won't work either http://www.lenmar.com/Web/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=ACUSB2K#, but I just don't get why...

The 1A rating on that charger is likely false.
Personally, I would advise you to purchase a non-usb rapid charger

It doesn't use USB port, and saves on the wear on the USB port.

  • Why do third party chargers short out apple cables?

I have owned every single iphone since they came out, but with the iphone 5, I have found that iphone chargers have stopped working quite frequently to a point that they cant be used on any other device. But the device that plugs into the wall plug does work. I am beginning to feel that it has something to do with the use of any third party devices in any way used  with the iphone 5 S. My daughter and I both have iphone 5s and it only affects us, where it does not affect my other daughters 5c or my husbands 4S. We now have found that the charging case we bought for $80 to increase the charging capacity of the phone, that has a different non apple carging device, has caused her phone to not hold a charge or work with her apple cable.
    Is this a 5s issue?
    Any ideas?

You are a level 5 with replies like that?
Forgive me, I am not claiming to be the sharpest apple user but I have looked on non apple forums and found alot of info about the iphone 5 and its issues with chargers and third party cables, ect.I own a Honda pilot 2012 and after buying the iphone 5 my fully loaded system is incompatible, where the 4s worked fine. I took it in for service and Honda claims it is an apple issue. Apple claims not true.
There is a definite issue going on with apple phones and I think Apple is covering it up. I seems odd that in a family with 5 iphone users that the only people who have any issues with their phones, are the 2 people who are using the iphone 5. We have to use non apple plug ins to use with non apple devices like our bose system, car charger, and many other items, but never cheap crap sold at the cash registers of the store or mall. If more of this is not discussed on apples site then I guess I know that apple is covering it up and maybe its time to start looking for new products.

  • Car charger, cant seem to charge my iPhone 6 in the car with third party chargers, they work other places and with other devices but not in car. Did I inadvertantly change a setting somewhere to deactivate the car charging?a

    CAr charging?

That would be because the charger isn't putting out enough power to charge your Phone while in use.  Not all car chargers are created equal in terms of output.  After doing some research, I found there are some you can buy, but this one seems to be about the best option.  It's $15 and you can get it on Amazon.

  • So I have a Iphone 5, I use both my official chargers and third party chargers.  Recently ALL chargers stopped working, both official and third party.  Even with official chargers I get "this acccesory is not suppported".

For some reason the only way I can  charge my phone is by plugggin directly into my mac mini.  It will charge with both non offiical and official cords.  What is going on?

Clean the lightning connector port with a soft dry brush.

  • Should i use a third party charger or the apple charger

    for a white macbook

Use a genuine Apple power adapter.
Third party chargers use inferior parts and often bear fraudulent markings from consumer product safety agencies. Using them can be hazardous to you, your MacBook, and other property due to the potential for fire, electric shock, or damage as a result of exceeding the MacBook's power supply tolerances.
It is very difficult to determine if a charger is an actual Apple product from an external inspection, and an internal inspection revealing its deficiencies destroys the adapter. If it's on eBay, it is very likely to be counterfeit.

  • Using a third-party wall charger...

Well I saw this Centrios charger for $20 where you can plug in your iPod and hook it up to the wall power outlet so you can charge it without having to have your computer on.
    1) Does this void any Apple warranties?
    2) Is there a chance that this charger could do anything of harm to my iPod?
    3) Would I be better off getting the official Apple charger? (No biased answers, please.)

Depends on the power ratings of the third-party chargers.

  • Iphone 5 not charging after using third party charger.

I know there's a lot of threads that discuss this topic but I haven't found someone who has the exact situation as mine.
I broke my original charging cable and replace it with a third party thunderbolt cable. It charges once by fluctuating all the time. Now my battery is 0% and the third party thunderbolt cable doesn't work. I decided to replace it with an original thunderbolt cable but it still doesn't charge. It doesn't show anything even the battery symbol. Just blank off screen. I also let it plugged as I hope that it just needs to charge the battery because it's drained but I guess that's not the case. I'm charging via the wall charger.  I also tried to connect it in the usb port of my computer and it still doesn't work. Any fixes that you guys can recommend? I am on a panic right now. . Technically this cable should work as this is the cable from apple. Thanks.

Yes I'm well aware of patents but I have used third party chargers fine with all my previous iphones. I can buy replacement third party chargers to all my other electronics, why is it that apple has to tie me into using their charging cable, it is anti-competitive and possibly an illegal practice.
If you aren't going to offer helpful advice, then please don't state the obvious!! I wasn't aware that cables were under warranty, so being in a position that I couldn't afford another apple charger I have used another charger which has by the looks of things broken my phone. So again can I do anything to try and fix it? Does anyone know whether I have a case against the manufacturer of the 3rd party cable? Is apple being anti competitive? Id appreciate helpful comments please.

  • Third Party Wall and Car Chargers for ZV

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the third-party wall and car chargers that are available on Ebay? I just purchased a Vision: M yesterday and was wondering if I should purchase a bundle pack off of Ebay with a case, chargers, TV cables, and sync cable? Or if I should only purchase the skins off Ebay and get a genuine Creative charger? I love the unit already (I have been a Creative customer for 6 years) but fi've hours via USB is too long a charge cycle for me...
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Fenian

encase makes a combo unit. can be used with USB port, with cigar lighter in vehicle, or 120V wall plug. Quality stuff!

  • Third-party battery & charger?

    Hi all,
Has any of you had any experience with 3rd party camera batteries & chargers? Would it cause any damange to the camera? Would it cause problems when doing repairs via BB or the manufacturer?
I'm considering this option because BB is making me extremely frustrated by making a simple battery replacement difficult & time-consuming (the whole story: CLICK HERE)
But I don't want BB or Panasonic to deny my right to repair the camera within the warranty due to using a third-party battery/charger.

To my knowledge, no manufacturer covers damage caused by using third party accessories under any circumstances (that would be silly).
In the US, the manufacturer cannot forbid you from using third party acessories and it cannot directly change your warranty status, and there are similar laws in most other countries; only if the third party accessory damages your camera.
For batteries and chargers, there is little downside, as even if the cells contained within are of a low quality, they would undervolt the camera, which it is designed to handle safely (although you wouldn't LIKE it, it won't damage your camera), not overvolt it, which would cause damage - and even overvoltage will only cause damage if it's significant. The camera has to be pretty tolerant of batteries acting up, because even the best Li-Ion frequently have trouble.
I'm a former Geek Squad employee, and I've spent my entire life and career taming technology. Kudos appreciated.

  • Urgent Warning About Third-Party Batteries!

Canon, Nikon, Sony, and other companies are starting to put code in their camera firmware that locks out third-party batteries in their cameras and chargers. So do not update your firmware if you are already using third-party batteries in your camera. Obviously, these changes make the third-party batteries that Best Buy carries in their stores as well as via part-search/marketplace useless, so Best Buy needs to work on carrying more manufacturer-made camera batteries in their stores as I've noticed that there are many cameras that Best Buy sells or have recently sold which have no batteries available in their stores or only have third-party equivalents available in the stock.

    Hi LexMachine,
Thanks for the information, and if accurate it could be concerning for people currently using these batteries. I have also just stuck with the manufacturer's batteries, but can't say I haven't been tempted by the less costly third party substitutions.
Can I ask where you are getting this information? Is there a link(s) you can provide? Not saying it's not accurate, but would like to verify this information.
    Thanks,

  • Third party apple charger vs cable

I have an apple original charger, actually quite  few I have accumlated over the last 7 yrs of iphone and two ipads..  I never tried buy third partycharger / cables...
Recetly for my iphone 5 i lost my original cable and went and bought a thrid party cable "only cable". And I tried to use it with my iphone and with the apple charger (or via my iMac)..
    Now
    1. It works on a hit or miss basis, it chargers sometimes and at times it doesnt...
    2. I have been reading in news that ppl get electricuted by using 3 rd party chargers? This seems serious.... However is this an issue with using 3rd party charger and/or cable? I was under the impression that, once we have a apple original charge/adaptor then using any cable should be safe from any hazard? AM I right to say that???

Apple patented the lightning cables and genuine copies are licenced and are available  from the premium manufacturers .The cheap versions are almost certainly unlicenced knockoffs
Apple genuine items cables and charger units will work as expected. No-one can predict how a cheap backstreet copy will work

  • When will third-party accessories be available for the iPhone 6?

When will third-party accessories such as car chargers and cases be available for the iPhone 6?

Case-mate already has cases available: http://www.case-mate.com/iPhone-6-Cases/Case-Mate-iPhone-6-Tough-Case.asp
Any of the car chargers currently available will work with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

  • Third party adapters not working

I bought two different adaptors for my iPhone 5 (to be able to use my old 30-pin cables) and I am pretty sure they worked when I first used them. However, after the latest iOS updates for the iPhone 5 and the iPad 4, neither adaptor works. My devices will not charge with wall chargers (nothing happens when I plug them in, not even the warning "Not Charging"), nor are they recognized by the computer if I connect them to it.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or similar experiences?

Apple sells these adaptors.  When you purchase third party adaptors, you do so at your own risk.  You might check with the seller or manufacturer.

  • Charging from a third party charger

I am using a third party charger, but my itouch stops charging after about 3 minutes no matter how much juice is left. I have recreated this numerous times. Can I NOT use non-apple chargers??

yeah i know you mean the ipod touch - some people on here do get a bit 'touchy' (all be it in a jokey manner), if you'll pardon the pun when people refer to them as the itouch.
you didn't say you were using the USB connecter which came with it, you said you were using a third party one. if it isn't charging properly with the provided USB cable then that is a different problem. could be a battery problem, could be a cable problem. you would probably need to go to an apple store to get the to check it out (unless you have another ipod USB cable lying around the house)
when they refer to faster USB, they mean USB 2.0 ports, which are found in newer computers, i'm not entirely sure, but i believe they are faster and allow more power to the peripheral device than the older USB ports did.
