Third party internal keyboard-

Seeing as Apple still hasn't upgraded the keyboards on its Ibook's, and my warr~ is almost up, i'm curious as to if anyone knows of a third party internal keyboard? I searched around a bit and found a touchstream bit that looked interesting, but sadly the company has gone out of business.

You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).

Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.

Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • Third-party internal burners

Hi all. I've recently come into posession of a used PowerMac G5 dual 1.8 and am wondering if installing a third-party burner such as the ones listed below would be recognized by Tiger.

    Hi-
Not so sure about the Emprex, Pioneer is usually not a problem.
An even better Pioneer is this one:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Pioneer/DVR112DBK/
To get the full support, including 10x dual layer, use Patchburn:
    http://www.patchburn.de/download.html
Pioneers can easily have the ROM flashed for future media support (when it becomes necessary).
As with all DVD burners (except OEM replacements) you will need to remove the front bezel of the DVD burner to fit nicely into your tower.

  • Third party mouse/keyboard combos

    first post here.
i am going to buy a bluetooth mouse plus keyboard combo.
    i am quite interested in logitech mx5000 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2158,CONTENTID=107 76&ad=hpb_mx5000)
would this thing work with the integrated imac bluetooth adapter? would all of the F-keys work?
    any advice?
    marco.

Hi, I'm also interested in that mouse keyboard combo
It says in the specs that the mouse is actually MX1000 for bluetooth.
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/AU/EN,CRID=2135,CONTENTID=904 3
now, that mouse only, in the specs says that it supports mac.
so im guessing just the softwares for the keyboard that might not work, e.g. the features for IM status, etc.

lists the compatible logitech keyboards for mac os
this is another quote from logitech support
"Although it’s possible for you to use a Logitech Bluetooth product on your system, Logitech does not support these devices in any other operating system besides Windows XP and Windows 2000. However, since our devices strictly adhere to the Bluetooth standard, the hardware should operate in other operating systems. Even though the hardware may work, you will not be able to install the software and therefore will not be able to use some features such as secure data transmission and extra function keys or mouse buttons."
so.. its a gamble to buy the set.
or maybe we can buy the apple bluetooth keyboard from apple store and buy MX1000 bluetooth from logitech

  • Third party keyboard?

The issue with Ibook keyboards is really becoming quite a hassle. I use mine constantly, and am now on my sixth one since I purchased the computer last November. They wear out quicker than any keyboard I have ever seen, and even though this is a KNOWN issue, Apple has done very little to correct it, (other than sending out new keyboards, assuming you get a rep who knows his head from his...eh) as I see it happening with current gen Ibooks as well. Tonight, I went in search of third party internal keyboards (I use my Ibook when i'm on the road- an external keyboard isn't an option). I found one, the Touchstream. Looked like a wonderful setup- Only problem being, the company that produced them is now defunct. So now i'm wondering, if one company has done it, perhaps others have as well? Does anyone know of any third-party Ibook internal keyboards? My warrenty is about up, and I certainly can't afford 100 dollars for these shoddy Ibook keyboards every three months.

I've bought most of my replacement keyboards from powerbookmedic.com, although the last time I needed one, that store didn't have any in stock, and I had to buy the keyboard from some other online store. I forget the name of it, perhaps because it was about 50% more expensive than powerbookmedic.com. Nonetheless, I can't help you on the price. Even powerbookmedic.com is over $100.
Our problem with the iBook keyboard is less its design than the children and the dog.

  • Third-party keyboard and mouse

I’m buying a “third-party USB keyboard and mouse”, as quoted in the FAQ. I cannot afford the original keyboard and mouse because here in Brazil they’re extremely expansive. But some of these third-party sets have an indication: “for both windows and MAC OS”, and some don’t. Does that mean that the ones without the indication will not work? Or it only means that these with the indication have been projected more properly? The equivalent keys quoted in the FAQ are not rare, on the contrary, they exist in any keyboard – the one with the windows sign (equivalent to the apple sign) and the ALT command, equivalent to the optinons, right? Is there any other special care I should have when buying them?

"But some of these third-party sets have an indication: “for both windows and MAC OS”, and some don’t. Does that mean that the ones without the indication will not work?"
It means that the ones with the indication that it is "for both windows and Mac OS" will work on both Windows and Mac but will generally have the Windows style keyboard.
About the time I ordered my Mini, I ordered one of the Windows/Mac compatible keyboards from one of the major online stores. I was concentrating on the fact that the KB was compatible with the Mac and not being aware of the keys being Windows style. It's a nice KB but I'm sorry that I didn't buy a dedicated Mac KB because I keep forgetting which Windows key relates to which Mac key. It's not a major hassle but an annoying inconvenience when referring to a Mac manual and having to translate Mac keyboard instructions to my Windows layout KB.

  • Function Keys in Third Party Keyboards

My alluminum extended Mac keyboard went on the fritz after three years, though I admit I may have been cleaning it incorrectly. Anyway, I bought a third party generic keyboard that is more Mac like than Windows like, and it's working pretty well except that most of the funcion keys do not work. I can't get Play, Previous, or Forward for instance. Volume works and a couple of the Mission Control buttons work as well. Other functions such as Show Desktop were reassigned to shortcuts like ^↓. I tried adding function keys for menu items in iTunes and restarting, but the keys just beep at me when I press them. I tried adding a modifier key but no effect. I've been restarting through the troubleshooting but have not otherwise reset anything (pretty much just working through Keyboard Preferences).
Not too bad really, but it would be nice to get some functionality back into the function keys. But maybe this is as good as it gets? Thanks.

You cannot get it be exactly like an Apple keyboard, but you can adjust it as much as possible:
    - reversing the order of keys in sys prefs/keyboard/modifier keys (you may modify 4 such keys)
    - add 3rd party utilitites for monitor brightness (Shades: http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades ) and sound (I understand you have sound, others do not, if using a non-Apple keyboard: PTHVolume)
    - DoubleCommand to make other changes, e.g. right Enter key to work as Option key (useful for some notebooks, mainly)

  • Problem with 3rd party bluetooth keyboard

I just purchased a third party bluetooth keyboard (RockSoul BT-100).  Unfortunately, when paired with my MacBook (2009 aluminum unibody running Mountain Lion), neither the Escape nor the FN key works.  Any suggestions?  Do I need a special driver?

    Hello:
I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the third-party device.

  • 3rd party bluetooth keyboard not connecting to Mac

I have a 3rd party bluetooth keyboard that works fine on m iphone,
When I try to connect it to my Mac, the keyboard is discoverable as "Bluetooth Keyboard" where it always fails at the pairing process.
"The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. This configuration of Mac OSX and bluetoot software could be invalid or unsupported."
The bluetooth on my Mac connects fine to my trackpad.
Is there any reason why this shouldnt work on my Mac and is there any way to get it working?

I had the same problem with my third party bluetooth keyboard. When pairing, I could enter the passphrase but then the RETURN button would not register to complete the pairing and it would give me the same error message. It seems to work if you pair the keyboard by going into System Preferences>Keyboard>Set Up Bluetooth Keyboard instead of using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant.

  • How do I program my third party keyboard to skip song in any application?

I have a microsoft keyboard, becuase unfortuantely I couldn't afford to buy the Apple one... The keyboard has function keys, number pad a pause/play button, mute, volume up and volume down. What's really annoying that it does not have a skip song key, or go back song key. I have tried to program it through system preferences, but that only works when I am in the itunes application. What I want to achieve is, for example, go into safari and press a particular function key and then it will skip the song that's playing or if I hold it down, fast forward. Just like you would do on the actual apple keyboard.
Is there anything I can do to do this?

With BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) accounts e-mail accounts are polled every 15 minutes for mail. If mail is found then it is pushed to the device. Then the mail account is polled every 3 minutes (for 5 cycles) for mail. If there is no mail found, then it will be polled again in 15 minutes.
Gmail and Yahoo! Mail have special agreements with RIM that allow the mail to be delivered instantly, thus the instantaneous push. If you want your mail instantly pushed then you would need to create a BlackBerry E-mail Account (via your carrier's BIS web site) then configure your mail account to forward the mail to the BlackBerry e-mail account.
For example, let's say you have T-Mobile. You could create an e-mail account called [email protected] Then you would configure your third-party e-mail account to forward any e-mails received to the [email protected] address. This way the messages would come through instantly. More information on this is here: Methods of Receiving E-mail on BlackBerry
The only other option would be to use a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) or a Hosted BES provider (like MailStreet or ExchangeMyMail).

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.

  • Third party keyboard not working correctly.

I have hooked up a Kensington PilotBoard USB keyboard to my G4 PB 17". The regular keyboard keys (letters, numbers, shift keys) work but the function keys do not, and none of the key commands work. I've loaded the keyboard software, but when I open it, it indicates that no keyboard is detected.
Incidentally, I could not find the software on the Kensington website with the same model number (#64378), so I'm wondering if that could be it. Also, the regular keyboard on the laptop works fine.
Another observation: I'm still running Panther, but a friend who is running Tiger said his computer opened up a dialog box when he plugged in an older third party keyboard which helped him to match up the keyboard. Do I need to upgrade my operating system software?
Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

  • IOS 8 Missing third party keyboards in some apps

I have iOS 8.02 installed on an iPhone 5S. Have also installed third-party keyboard applications (Swype, Swiftkey, Minuum), however, they only appear in some of the applications. The third-party keyboards are missing from the Messages, Notes and Reminders applications. It works perfectly in Mail and Safari. This same issue occurred with IOS 8.0.
I have installed the same keyboards on another iPhone 5s and an iPad 3,  on these devices the keyboards work perfectly on all applications. These are using IOS 8.0.
Have tried uninstall, reinstalls and resetting the device. Also did a restore and device reset and nothing seems to fix this.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. IPhone 5S has third party keyboards working in safari but not other apps (8.02). IPad with 8.02 has them working everywhere. Any ideas?
