  • Any ideas on a 3rd party software to transfer music from ipod back to MBP?

Hi guys, while trying to transfer my music from an extrnal hard drive on to MBP I deleted them all. very silly but hey!
I heard that it is possible to transfer music back from your ipod to Itunes.. These are my own music files and not infringing any copyright issues..Thanks in advance for your help...

For years now I've been using iPod.iTunes available here:
    http://www.crispsofties.com/
It's not the cheapest nor the easiest to use sometimes but does things most others do not, including preserving your ratings, last played, etc. when transfering, doing a good if not perfect job of not duplicating songs already in your library, transfering playlists and smart playlists, and especially working in both directions.
The developer stands behind the program and is very responsive to requests for help or added features. It works with videos and Podcasts, too.

  • Transferring songs from iPod to computer (new hard drive)

My hard drive crashed and won't be able to backup all my music/songs that are not purchased from iTunes. How would I transfer all the songs from my iPod to my new hard drive (PC)? Is there any possibility?

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.

  • Hard disk failure, replaced; how to get songs from iPod back into iTunes

    Hard disk failure, replaced with new hard drive etc;
How do I get all songs from iPod back into iTunes?
(mix of CD sourced and iTunes shop sourced)

I can't believe there's no answer to this. Apple wants to charge customers for support but this has got to be happening thousands of times a day what with Windows OS reinstalls being what they are-numerous! Please let me know if/when you get a reply, thx!

  • Transfering songs from iPod after PC recovery what software please, help?

Hi,unfortunately i had to do another recovery on my pc and did not have enough time to back up my music/vids. I thought this would be ok as i had previously downloaded Podplayer and thought i could recover them with this software, it seems to have gone haywire and changed song titles some of them are now unamed and have become protected. Even worse it also turns out i have now lost over 200 music vids and movies in one swoop,no thanks to the ipods automatic syncing when plugged in. Thank god ive still got my music, just about. Can anyone please suggest a free software that i can use to transfer music from ipod to my PC that is reusable and also keeps the songs in order, title, artist and so on? If not free something reasonale and good. Please help thanks

One of the most recommended is <f

Thanks, i have downlowded yamipod and its better than pod player as it puts the song info in order when they are placed in iTunes. I will start backing up properly when i get an external drive. Thanks for your help.

  • Transferring songs from ipod to itunes

my old computer with all of my songs are fried. I only have the songs on my ipod. Just got a new Macbook. How do i transfer songs from my ipod to a new itunes library without wiping it out?

Definitely a good idea to have a backup, but obviously that's not the case for you!
There are third-party software applications for transferring ipod music to your computer, and they cost about what three albums would on the iTunes store.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Third party software for transferring music content to new laptop

Help! My laptop died and I need help finding a third party software to copy my music files and transfer them from my Iphone to my new laptop's Itunes. Apple tech support helped me set up Itunes and transfer my purchased content, but I have 1,000 songs left that I don't want to reload. I found a link to Aniosoft through searching the web, but wondered if anyone who has been in my shoes might be able to lend advice on how best to handle this.
    Thanks, Sam

That I don't understand. As cheap as backup sources have become, there's really no excuse for not backing up. We probably get two or more posts a day...they all start the same way...my computer died...my life's work is on my phone...what can I do...I have no backup...
Think about that for a minute, why on earth would you store ANY valuable data on a phone, for crying out loud, & not have any backup?

  • Simple Question About Transferring Songs From Ipod

I recently bought a new iPod 80 gb, and gave my little sister my old 30 gb iPod. Both of them are fifth generation iPods and we use Windows XP as our operating systems. We use separate computers.
Now her iPod has the music from my iTunes. My question is whether or not one can take mp3s from an iPod and transfer them onto another computer, by a certain program maybe?

    this is an option

DO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
    5 – Within iTunes: File=>Add Folder
6 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    7 - Click OK
8 - The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes
8a –- this will take some time depending on your PC and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • Trying to put songs from ipod back in itunes.

Hello. So I saw a topic on this but can't find it. Somebody talked about a web application that would allow you to put the songs on your ipod back into itunes. Basically I'm retiring my ipod now that I have an iphone and want to get the songs from my ipod into itunes so I can put them on my iphone. Any help would be great!
    Happy holidays.
    -M

Hey guys. I used this page (below) and it worked perfectly. Just keep in mind that it won't notify you of duplicate tracks so if it is already in itunes and you put your ipod back on you could have two of the same tracks. Otherwise it worked great and was easy with no third party software.

  • HT201272 Transfering songs from ipod to new computer? its only transfering a few not all

Can anyone tell me why my new computer wont transfer all my ipod songs to the library only a few and then when i try to sync new songs it says it can only do it from one library and wants to erase all the songs from my ipod when i click transfer from ipod to library its only transfering a few selceted songs

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
