Third party software not updating anymore!

It used to be the case that i could open, speed download, VLC, skype or whatever and the app would tell me there is an update to download. However this last few months all my third party software has stopped doing this, even if i physically go to 'update software' in the menu bar the message i get is this 'there is currently no software update for this app'.
If i go to the venders websites i can download and drag the software into applications where it overwrites no problem.
Any theories as to why this has started to happen to all my software except for OSX updates which work fine.

Can Windows Intune ensure third party software such as Java, Adobe Reader, & Flash is updated? I at-least want an email when a PC has an out of date version of the above software. If Windows Intune can't do

We're a small business that simply uses Windows Intune and Office 365. Recently a PC had a vulnerable/out of date version of Java and visited a compromised site, resulting in a nasty virus. Obviously I don't want this to happen again.
Update: I ended up using GFI Cloud's patch management to address the lack of automatic third party patching in Windows Intune.

That requires manually uploading patch files for third party software daily... I'm looking for something that can automatically update common third party software that cause major security concerns, or at-least notify me when they are out of date.

Third party software not syncing

Hi All,
Hoping that you can help, I have installed some Third Party Software on my Palm Z22 and it does not seem to be hot-syncing. I also can not see the program on the listing when I open the Palm Desktop software and go to HotSync->Custom....?? Is there somewhere that I can tell it to sync this program??

Does it have something to with not being able to see the program in the Hot Sync options?? It seem to be that it does not seem to sync this app?? Is there somewhere I can 'tell' it to sync?

Third party software will not close without a soft reset.

I have a few third party software utilities/games that do not want to close without a soft reset, some show a white screen and others just will not close. Should I uninstalll these and reinstall them? My grandson has the same utilities on his Treo 650 without these problems. My phone is the Treo 700p.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. If this does not work, you may want to check if there are updates or newer versions of this program and be sure to check the compatibility.

What's a good way to update third-party software?

I've been using Tech Tracker (CNET) as an easy way to update all my third-party (mostly not purchased through Apple) software. They seem to be dropping their Mac service. Is there anything equivalent out there that will survey my software and feed me updates?

this answer should be revisited .. the latest update to the Macupdate Desktop is a bug ridden disaster. I used the previous version of the Desktop app for 4 years. It was flaky, crashed often, would only reliably handle 2 simultaneous installs at once (supposed to handle 5+) and would fail to install many things. It handled paid updates well .. by warning the user BEFORE downloading .. and install thread could stall for unknown reasons. But it failed safe .. it did not damage an existing app if it failed, and left the downloaded packages available for retrying the install manually.
Now that is not the case. Desktop 6 destroys the installed app in 1 out of four installs:
only partly installing files, or corrupting some, so that the app cannot run
install only the .app bundle but no files behind it so it is a zero size item in Applications
My impression is there are now more apps that it cannot update than before .. i deleted Macupdate Desktop from my machine after it screwed up 20 installs over three different sessions .. I tried a total of 30 .. only 5 actually completed successfully, the rest I had to complete by hand.
All that said .. the site is still a great resource on the current version of Mac OS apps .. I just have to do all of my updates manually now

How do you remove a third party software update on Lion?

A friend recently pulled an update to Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1. The update version is 3.6.2. Consequently, RDP does not work when connecting to a Windows machine remotely.
NOTE: I realize Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1 is no longer supported for OSX Lion and later. However, I use this same client successfully on a 2009 Intel MBP upgraded to Mountain Lion. I did NOT pull this third party software update and RDP works without fail.
Troubleshooting steps to date:
Attempted Uninstall/reinstall of RDP.
Failed.
My goal is to "roll back" this specific application prior to the software update without having to restore OSX.
Please help locate the specifc program files to be removed. I'm willing to remove manually through Terminal with the right instruction.

Third party software updates wont open on leopard

I've recently downloaded two or three third party software updates (Neooffice and VMware fusion examples). After the large downloads disk utility seems to mount a disk image successfully after which you usually get a new page containing a 'upgrade software' yellow and orange cube, a read me file and an uninstall option. When I double click the 'upgrade software' cube it starts to expand as if its going to do something and then nothing, nothing at all ! Normally on Tiger hitting this update cube will initiate the upgrade but on my Leopard I seem to be drawing a blank on third party software. The apple software updates seem to function correctly.
Any ideas ?

I would first try redownloading the software updates. If that fails, I would make a backup of your system with Time Machine and do a clean install of Mac OS X, though I really don't think this is a system issue.

Logic Express 8 not seeing third-party software instruments

I have tried to install some Puremagnetik EXS instruments files for Logic, following manufacturer's instructions to place an alias of the file containing them in the folder Macintosh HD-->Library-->Application Support-->Logic-->Sampler Library. Have tried this both with an alias and with the actual file. Actual file resides on the home drive not an external drive. Have rescanned the library in Logic and they are not showing up either in the library or in the channel strip drop-down menu.
Have others had this problem with "third-party" software instruments that do not come as package files? The only non-built-in software instruments that I have ever successfully installed in an Apple product were either from the Jam Packs or came as a "package" where you double-click the "box" icon and the product installs.

Even though both the Puremagnetik instructions and an e-mail from the support address there specifically said to place the files in the top level directory, guess what? Based on this suggestion I placed an alias in the user level directory and it worked. Logic is now seeing the soft synths. Thank you!

Third Party Software to Manage iPhone music libary across multiple PCs

Can anyone recommend third-party software to get around the "An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes libary at a time?" I get this warning when I try to change settings to manually manage music and videos, which you would think would allow me to drag and drop an album off my main desktop music library to my iPhone, or from my smaller laptop music libary to the same iPhone when I am not at home. From Apple, I appear to be locked into picking one primary library. There has got to be a better way. (The kb/ht1202 article does not solve this issue).

Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

Third party software for imovie to enable Sony HD cameras to import footage

Pretty much I bought a camera that won't work with my Mac unless I jump through hurdles to make it do so. (which is nice because I spent a crap ton of money on the camera) Apple support told me I had to find third party software and that they have no clue when an update for imovie would come out which allowed avchd to read on a mac. Please god let some one solve my problem for me. I'm not too technically savoy so if the answer is complex, dumb it down a little. I really don't want to have to return the camera. it's a sony Sr-1 pretty sweet little guy and the jerks at best buy said it would be compatible with mac.

ISync and third party software

Having recently purchased a shiny new Intel Macbook (running Tiger
10.4.8), I was keen to get ISync (2.3) working with my Nokia N80. As
usual I've picked a model that isn't supported by ISync. Bah!
So to cut some corners until ISync is updated I have purchased third
party software from Nova Media in Germany.
I had heard that this solution was the best alternative and cost me 10
Euros.
For some reason it won't work.
When setting up the permissions for ICal the check box does not stay
checked.
Nova Media Support were quick to reply with some suggestions:
1: Delete old ISync permissions from Library.
2: Repair ISync using Disk Utility and First Aid
3: Reset Device Sync through ISync.
and a link to resolving this issue within the apple support pages.
(although the answer seemed directed at 10.4.6)
Tryed them all several times with no success.
This as you can appreciate is driving me nuts!!!
Anyone out there had the same problem, or any suggestions on getting
this problem sorted and cheering up my day?

I would expect Subversion 1.7 to work with OPM. Although we tested it specifically against 1.6 and 1.5 Subversion is pretty backwards compatible.
You can choose to installl svn as part of the OPM install. this is SlikSVN 1.6. If you choose not to install it. It will use the existing SVN client available on your machine. It detects this by working out if an svn client can be accessed through the standard windows path.
You can if there is an svn client avaialble by starting a command prompt and typing "svn --version" if it returns something. OPM should use this SVN client.
You don't necessarily need to use TortoiseSvn. TortoiseSvn is essentially an integrated user interface for Subversion in windows.
