Third Party Wireless N Upgrade for First Gen MacBook

I have a first generation MacBook that can only run on the wireless g standard. When the MacBook Core 2 Duos came out, they could take advantage of the new wireless N. Those of us with the first gen MacBook couldn't upgrade.
Then I ran across this product from FastMac.
http://fastmac.com/ncard
I think it just came out.
Has anyone tried it? Think it would work? Anything I should be worried about?
They offer a DYI option. How hard could it be to install? They can install it also for $$ (90?).
Your advice is welcome.
Thanks.

Note if you do it yourself, any warranty resulting from problems afterwards will have to come from Fastmac. If you are under AppleCare, I don't think it is worth the trouble.
I'm not guessing as to how Apple will handle warranty issues. But logic dictates that's how it would be based on reading the AppleCare Service Agreement. This smells of "unauthorized modification." I could be wrong, but don't come crying here if your machine overheats, or something else bad happens. Fastmac will need to offer support.
You can get a WiFi 802.11n enabled Wireless Access Point with gigabit ethernet (not from Apple, as Apple's 802.11n base station uses 10/100 ethernet) that will hook up to the MacBook and provide the same speeds.

  • Third Party Tools To Upgrade WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2013?

Since you cannot upgrade WSS 3.0 directly to SharePoint Foundation 2013 using just the SharePoint software, I wanted to look at 3rd party tools that automate the migration directly to 2013 without requiring an intermediate upgrade to 2010.
We have a simple WSS 3.0 farm with 2 SharePoint Servers and 2 SQL servers that are are load balanced so that the site stays up if any one of the servers goes down.  It may be just round robin load balancing.
I'd like to see if I can determine if any of these migration tools would save enough time and effort for this type of environment to be worth the cost.  It would be nice if we could do the upgrade all in once day instead of having 2 outages.

HI,There are third party tools to upgrade sharepoint but not from wss 3.0 to directly sharepoint 2013.Its not at all possible as I know. Please find the below link that clearly explains the Upgrade process.

Anil Avula[MCP,MCSE,MCSA,MCTS,MCITP,MCSM] See Me At: http://expertsharepoint.blogspot.de/
It looks like there are such products.
This one says it can be used to migrate directly from even WSS 2.0 to SharePoint 2013.
    http://www.fpweb.net/sharepoint-2013/migrate-sharepoint-2003-to-sharepoint-2013/
I don't like that it doesn't indicate anything about pricing on the page so you have to call a sales rep and give away all your contact information before you can get a quote.  I probably will not call them.
We would "like" to speed up the migration process and have only a single outage, but since the SharePoint environment is small, we will not be spending thousands of dollars just to save having to do two upgrades.  We would probably end up just
going to 2010 and canceling the 2013 upgrade if needed.

  • How do you add a third party sensor to LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms?

I recently purchased an IR Sensor from Mindsensors (DIST-Nx-Long-v3) which I need for a SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping Application) that I am developing using the LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms software.  I installed the Mindsonsors IR Sensor, and it works under NXT-G and RobotC, but am having trouble finding a way to get LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms to install the sensor.
The Mindsensors website gives the following instructions for installing the IR Sensor:
    1.Unzip the folder mindsensors.com LVEE
2.Open a blank vi in LVEE
3.On the Block Diagram Go to Tools->Advanced->Edit Palette Set...
Unfortunately, on the Block Diagram of the LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms, there is no "Advanced->Edict Palette Set" under Tools.
As an alternative, I consulted the documentation that came with LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms.  The Schematic Editor of LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms lists several sensors, i.e. the Lego Mindstorms sensors and several Hi-Teach (HT) sensors, but there are no procedures listed in the documentation for adding other third party sensors to the Functions Palette.
So, how does one go about adding a third party sensor to LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms?

    Hi Ethan,
As you can see from my Word document, I am a little light on the proper terminology.  That's because LVLM comes with inadequate documentation.
I have already followed your recommended protocol for installing a 3rd party sensor (in fact, its the protocol recommended by Mindsensors) with the application set in the Remote Mode (.lvrbt), and it does create a sub-palette with all the Mindsensors functions on it.  But when I drag the Mindsensors icon to the Block Diagram and select "Distance Sensor," the Distance Sensor (an IR sensor) doesn't work (even though the Mindsensor's Distance Sensor does work with NXT-G, RobotC and LVLM under other circumstances (see below)).
If I repeat the above process with the application set in the Direct Mode (.vi), I also get the sub-palette with all the Mindsensors functions on it.  When I drag the Mindsensors icon to the Block Diagram and select "Distance Sensor," the Distance Sensor does work.
What I need for my mapping application is for the Distance Sensor to work in the Remote Mode.  I called NI tech support and the first engineer told me to simple drag the Mindsensors Functions (.vi) onto the Block Diagram.  I did this, but when I selected the Distance Sensor, the icon appeared, but the sensor did not work.  Since I have no idea what's under the hood of the vi or a function, I assumed that simply dragging the vi/function onto the desktop didn't install the vi/function properly.  I went back to the Applications Engineer, and he confessed that he did not understand the LVLM product.
My frustration is being punted to new people, none of whom so far (other than you, of course) understand LVLM.

I don't know that is a huge number of alternatives for Fractal plugins.  You'll no doubt come across links for Fractalius and Genuine Fractals, but the first produces interesting strand like effects (after a very long wait) and the second is an image resize plugine which now belongs to On One, and is sold as Perfect Resize.  And even that has been made irrelevant by the Preserve Details upres option in CC.
You are alos wize to be careful.  Previous trusable sites like cnet on softonic are a nightmare nowdays, and too many of the free apps you find on them come loaded with malware.  Some of it _serious_ malware DAMHIKIJKOK

  • Third party Wireless Card on a Power Mac G5, bipro 1.8 GHz

Does anyone has a definite answer whether or not a TrendNet 403 PI+ PCI card would work or not along with my G5 bipro 1.8 Ghz (beginning 05- OS 10.3.9) ?
I have the same card installed on my B&W, which is recognized as an airport extreme card.
Installed into the G5, it is recognized by the hardware :
System Profiler says on Airport Card "Wireless Card Type : Third Party Wireless Card", but "Current Wireless Network : wireless network not available"
I have the 5 bars on airport icon, but they are grey
When I go to Other network and give the name of my network, it keep saying : "There was an error joining the Airport network".
Any clue why it works into my W&B (G4- 400 Mhz) and not into the G5 ?
    Thank's for any advice

  • Airport Extreme and third party wireless routers

I have a dual-band Airport Extreme that works well with all of my newer Macs. I have older laptops, however, with PCMCIA wireless cards that can't do WPA2-Personal security, only WEP. My only solution has been to set up a Guest network with no security. Is it possible to connect a third-party wireless router to the Airport Extreme that offers WEP security?

Are you trying to setup the Belkin router to use the same wireless network name as the AirPort Extreme network?
That would require that that the Belkin's network use the same security.
If this is the case, try setting up the Belkin with a different wireless network name. Unless the Belkin is really limited in features, you should be able to choose the type of wireless security to be used on this Belkin network.
If you can do this, "point" your WEP device at the wireless network that the Belkin is producing and the signal will bridge when it reaches the AirPort Extreme.
Regading your question about connecting a router to the ethernet port on a computer that is already setup for Internet Sharing...this is not likely to work. I very much doubt that you would be able to get an Internet connection with this type of setup.

  • Help With Third Party Wireless Cards

Hello, I am needing some help with third party wireless cards. I have purchased and installed the Linksys WMP54G wireless PCI card into my G4. From what ive seen on the discussions page here, this card is known to work with the G4s in place of the more expensive Airport Extreme card. The only problem is that my G4 doesnt even recognize that the card is in the PCI slot. Ive tryed the other PCI slots and still nothing. Previously, i have tried using a belkin and a d-link card that have been known to work in the G4s as well, and had the same problem. I am 100% sure that the card is seated correctly, and cant think of any other reason why it shouldnt detect that something is in the slot. If anyone can inform me what im doing wrong, or has any info on how to get it working, that would be great. Thanks for your time,
    ~Jared

Yes, i run Digidesigns audio editing program called Protools on my Mac. It uses a PCI card to import mic/line audio signals into the program from the hardware interface. I tried moving the Digidesign card and putting the wireless card in the same slot, and still nothing, although the Digidesign card works fine in the other slots. Each time i moved the Digidesign card, it showed up in the different slots, although the ones that were open did not show up at all. Only the PCI slots that are in use show up in ASP on my machine. I have the FW-800 version of the G4, so im not sure if that makes any difference. I have never erased the PRAM before, would you be able to give me directions on how to do that? Thanks a ton for your help. =)

  • Third Party Wireless

    Hullo all,
Is there any way to connect a third party wireless device to a mac? Specifically I am talking about a MacMini G4 (bought june/july of 2005) using a Ashton Digital AirDash USB stick. I can plug it into my mini and it lights up but I am not sure how to make the mini utilize it. I have tried the IOExperts Drivers to no avail. I know the stick can be used my the mini (using KisMac) but I do not know how to use it to connect to the internet.
    Thanks for any help
    Tom Johnson

Alternitavely, you said that it works
with KisMAC, so you could try and find out what
driver KisMAC is using to make the card work and
    apply that driver.
This idea seems to be the best or rather the only one that will work, unfortunately I have absolutely no idea as to how to do it. KisMAC uses the USB PRISM II driver and only in passive mode. (I am not sure if that makes a big difference) Anyway I have no idea where OS X puts its drivers. I've looked in the console application and it calls the drivers USBIntersilJack and specifically uses the lines:
2007-03-11 23:29:01.966 KisMAC[336] USBIntersilJack is now ready to start working.
    2007-03-11 23:29:02.307 KisMAC[336] USBIntersilJack: Detected a Prism2 card
    2007-03-11 23:29:02.345 KisMAC[336] USBIntersilJack: Firmware vendor 31, variant 6, version 1.5
    2007-03-11 23:29:02.346 KisMAC[336] USBIntersilJack: MAC 0x0 0xa 0xe9 0xa 0x81 0x79
    when it is loading.
You need to find a Mac Compatible driver. If there is
one for the usb stick, it will probably be on the
    Ashton website.
As for finding a mac compatible driver i think chances are nil. I've tried everything from open source to the DLink 1.47 driver. Either they do not work or I am to noobish in this area to know how to get them to work properly.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

  • First Gen MacBook Pro and no firewire 800. Suggestions for capturing video?

My first gen MacBook Pro only has one Firewire 400 port and nothing else (I got in a argument with a mac store clerk regarding the truth of this statement). My external hard drive has one Firewire 400 port, two Firewire 800 ports, and 1 USB. So far as I know the standard for most video cameras are still Firewire 400, in which case daisy chaining is out of the question (considering I will be using that port to connect to my computer). Any suggestions on how to capture video straight from a deck to my external hard drive?
    Thanks!
    MacBookPro1,1   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I think you can use a FW800/400 adapter and daisy chain your camera to the drive.

  • Connecting ibook g4 with third-party wireless network

i've got a ibook g4 with an airport extreme card that i'm trying to connect to a third-party wireless network. When i am right beside the router, it works at about 75%, but I walk 15 feet away and the signal is totally gone. the computer the router is hooked up to is a PC, and so are the other three computers in the house that access the wireless network. The PC's are all further away from the router, yet they can still get a basic signal. Why is my mac not working with this and what can i do about it?
    router: d-link 802.11g/2.4Ghz

You can verify that the antenna wire is properly attached to the AirPort Extreme card. See the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card.

I saw a third party app called siri-for-iphone-4 which is supposed to add siri to older iphone 4, but do not know if it is suitable or useable.

Is it an app that you can download from the App Store? If it is not, it would require that you jailbreak your phone which would void your warranty. Definitely not worth it, in my opinion.l

  • Connect AE to third party wireless router

    Hi all,
Here's what I'm trying to do:
I have a Airport Extreme base that I want to connect to a non Apple wireless router (ISP wireless router). Anybody managed to do that?
I tried setting up the base as WDS connnecting to my third party wireless router but without any success. I can make all the connections, save my AE settings, but when I choose the newly set AE Base, I'm not connected.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Most likely not, as very few non-AirPort routers can be extended with the AirPorts in a WDS. (ref: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php?title=WDSLinked_routernetwork)
You can, however, connect the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to most non-AirPort routers, via Ethernet, and then set up the AEBS as a bridge.
