Third try at this. hard drive went down. used carbonite to install library  and i installed itunes. itunes cannot access library.

this is the most unwieldy system for posting that I've ever seen. this was my 4th attempt.

What errors, if any, are you seeing?
Also, in the backup solution with Carbonite, have you been archiving the complete iTunes library, including the database (iTunes Library.itl) and associated files, as well as your media files and folders?
If you've restored your library to a location other than iTunes' default (C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes) then you can point iTunes to the right place by holding down Shift while you start iTunes - when you get this prompt:
click on Choose Library..., navigate to the location of your iTunes folder, select the iTunes Library.itl that you should find there, and click Open.

  • OK HERE IS WHERE I AM AT HARD DRIVE WENT DOWN UPGRADED TO A 250 GIG AND NOW NEED TO KNOW HOW TO INSTALL OSX ON THE POWERBOOK G4 17

I have a powerbook g4 17 and it recently went down the hard drive sounded like it was eating itself so i replaced the hard drive with a 250 gig and now i need help on how to get osx onto the powerbook it will not boot from disk i will start all the back at 0s9 if need be can anyone please help me i miss my g4

Do you have any OSX disks?
It won't boot from the new hard drive yet because there is no OS installed.
You need to use an OSX disk, put in your mac, then when turn on, hold down the C key (to boot from the CD).
Hold it down for a long time until you hear it noisily reading from the CD drive.  Once OSX starts up (from CD) you should go to Disk utility and you will need to format your new hard drive.
Once formatted, you can then install OSX.
Everything is done from the OSX install disk.
If you don't have one, you can buy a retail copy from Apple (not Snow Leopard), or from Ebay.  Make sure it is a retail copy, not disks that came with a Mac as they only work with the exact model of Mac it came with.

  • 200GB hard drive went down to 31GB

I reformatted a Seagate 200GB IDe drive and parttitioned it. I then went back and took off partition and drive now reads 31GB. What gives? I want it to read 200GB again.

    Hi, Web Dude -
When you "...took off partition..." did you reformat the drive again? If not, you would need to do so to regain the space which had been allocated to that partition. If you want the drive to be a single volume (no partitions), reformat it to that config.
There is also another possibility, though slim. Some drives come with a jumper setting to limit the apparent volume size to 31GB; this is done to permit the drive to be used with older PC processors which could not recognize a volume larger than that. While you were redoing the drive, if you happened to remove it and possibly tinker with its jumpers, that setting may have become engaged. If this is the case, undo it.

  • HP G7 laptop hard drive went bad, how do i install Windows 8?

    Hp Pavilion G7-2269wm
Recovery discs have been lost, don't know if that would even work without the original Hard Drive.
I've been told that the product key is embedded in the BIOS.
How do i go about installing Windows 8 in a new hard drive?
I've seen OEM versions of Windows 8 posted here for download, is there anywhere i can get an OEM version for this particular model?
UPDATE: Ok, I have run a bad sector repair tool, i can now access the desktop, though it is very slow and it seems i cannot do much, it wont let me do a search so i cannot get to the system recovery to create recovery disks.  I CAN put the hard drive in an external enclosure, and i can access the drive from there.  I can also boot up to advanced boot options.
Is there anyway to create recovery disks either from the HD being mounted in an external enclosure, or from the advanced boot menu?
    This question was solved.

Your key will work with this ISO. Google does limit how many times it can be downloaded every day so you may have to make more than one attempt.

My old PC died but the hard drive is still functional and accessible using a USB extraction device. I purchased a new PC and downloaded the latest iTunes but attempts to transfer the iTunes folder with songs from the old hard drive to my new computer failed. Only 20 of approx 300 songs transferred. All other non music file transfers (WORD, EXCEL, etc) from the old hard drive to the new computer were successful. Is this a file type issue? Any thoughts??  THANKS!

  • Recommendations for an external hard drive I can use for both the Mac and PC

    Hello,
I’ve used PC’s for nearly most of my life, and recently Imade the leap to using a Macbook Pro (the 15” Intel i7) as I got tired of theconstant crashes.  Long story short – Ineed to have a common external hard drive that I can use with both the PC’s andthe Mac I own.  Mostly I need theexternal drive to save my Microsoft Office documents, and family photos (aswell as Mp3’s and other programs).  I’vegone to the Mac Store in town, but I keep getting told that you cannot have acommon external hard drive between the two computers.  I’m just having a hard time excepting that,as I keep reading on Apple’s own website making the sales pitch of how PC userswho switch to a Mac wouldn’t have to purchase replacement hardware.  Are there recommended external drives thecommunity could recommend?  Also, wouldit be best to create a network drive to accomplish my goal? Any advice isgreatly appreciated.

Only one computer can be connected to one drive at a time without a server being involved or a NAS drive.
I don't think your needs are along those lines it's too complex.
Just a external drive formatted exFAT will do between Mac's and PC's.
Swtich the cable and connect to one or the other as needed or get two drives.
There are some hacks floating around that create a portable wireless shared storage so anyone with a wif can connect and share files with at like coffee shops.
Is that what your looking for?

  • Hey I'm a novice on computers, but i've just done a full system restore on my laptop after backing it up on an external hard-drive long story short in the back up process all my itunes converted to mpeg4 files and now i can't get them back into my my libr

Hey I'm a novice on computers but i've just done a full system restore on my laptop and put it back to factory spec, obviously i backed up all the data on an external hard-drive but when i have re-installed itunes and gone to import all my old music files from my previous itunes library as mpeg4 files it keeps telling me i don't have permission??!! *** someone please explain or tell me how to get music on to my new itunes without having to re-import every cd i own which is alot!!!

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

  • HT201295 Recently Apple replaced the hard drive on Mac running Yosmite 10.10.2 and now when i try to rn FaceTime, the computer says "no camera available". Does anyone no how to fix this?

Recently Apple replaced the hard drive on Mac running Yosmite 10.10.2 and now when i try to rn FaceTime, the computer says "no camera available". Does anyone no how to fix this?

Assuming there is no hardware problem try reinstalling Yosemite. If this does not work then take it back to the Apple Store.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My hard drive went bad and I lost a lot of purchased items from the iTunes store. I want to re-download them but can not. They still show up on my purchased items. How do I solve this?

    Update to iTunes 10.3.1
After you have finished, you can re download your iTunes purchases without having to re purchase.
    iTunes 10.3.1
" Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music purchases again at no additional cost. Your purchases are available in the iTunes Store on your Mac or in the iTunes app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store."
"Available on iTunes in the U.S. and Canada only. Title availability is subject to change."

There is no such thing as an "SG3" or "SG4".  Did you possibly mean a 3GS and iPhone4?
It has always been very basic to ensure that a backup exists of your media and other important files.  Computers fail, hard drives crashes... things happen.  Do you not have a backup?  The iPhone, like all iDevices is NOT a backup of your media, but rather a mirror of the content in the iTunes library on your computer.
If your contacts, pics, etc are not on your computer, no backups of the iPhone exist, and they are not on the phone, they are gone.
No one can magically make them re-appear.

    many thanks Carl.

You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

  • Down loaded Mavericks, will not install on my computer because it says "this hard drive is used for time machine back up".

Down loaded mavericks, it will not install on my computer because it says" this hard drive is used for time machine back up". So I used my old computer  hard drive for back up and reloaded the program but it still says the first hard drive is being used.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Make sure you have selected your MacBook Pro's hard drive as the destination to install Mavericks. If so, you have the "Backups.backupdb" folder in the root level of your hard drive.
That's the folder used by Time Machine to store backups of your files, and the Mavericks installer understands that your internal hard disk is the Time Machine drive.
To fix this, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type:
Then, delete "Backups.backupdb", empty the Trash and run the Mavericks installer. Finally, install OS X Mavericks

  • Hard drive spins down and have to do a hard reboot

I have an Intel iMac 3.06 (April 2008). Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard especially when I am using itunes (9.02) (downloading) the hard drive spins down for no reason at all.The energy settings are fine. The only option I have is to hold the power button down for 5 sec and reboot when it happens. I know this has been an issue with other intel iMacs but when the "fix" for other machines was available it said my machine did not need it. I beg to differ. This is getting very annoying as I am sure it is not doing the hard drive any good having to hard reboot all the time.
I have tried the power management reset which has not resolved the problem.

    Hi David
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    1. In the Energy Saver preference try setting Computer sleep: to "Never" and make sure the the box "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is unchecked.
    2. Try resetting the System Management Controller as described in the article below.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
Now then if you are still having a problem you might also:
    1. Use the Restore Default button on the Energy Saver preference panel and then reselect your sleep settings.
    or
    2. Go to: Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration and trash the "com.apple.PowerManagement.plist" which also restore's the Energy Saver preference to default, then go back to the Energy Saver preference and reselect your sleep settings.

  • My macbook pro hard drive went bad and i bought a new one and installed it. Now i have the old corrupted hard drive in my hand and i am looking to recover my files from it, any suggestions please? too bad i never backed them up.

My macbook pro hard drive went bad and i bought a new one and installed it. Now i have the old corrupted hard drive in my hand and i am looking to recover my files from it, any suggestions please? too bad i never backed them up.

After you have installed the OSX on the new HDD in your MBP, install the old HDD in an enclosure and connect it to your MBP via USB.  Then try to drag and drop  your data to the new HDD.
If this proves unsuccessful, you may look for data recovery software on the Internet.  There will be free trails to see if it will work or not.  If the trial suggests that it will work, then you will have to purchase the software.
The last resort is a professional data recovery service that will offer NO guarantees and charge a lot of money.
As you now can appreciate, backups eliminate such predicaments.
    Ciao.

  • My HP hard drive went out.

My hard drive went out on my HP and I tried to contact someone online but could not get anyone. I need to know what I will need todo its still under warenty I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR GOING ON 6 MONTHS. I am not satisfied with how everything is turning out I expected more form this company.
I am a very unsatified customer.

I suggest that you contact someone by telephone or email instead or try the online chat again. Hard disks are a warranty replaceable item.  Contact HP
You will need to locate the recovery disk set or USB recovery media that you created (when asked to) at the time when you first set up your notebook.  If you did not create a set then you will need to purachse a set from HP or an HP Partnet
