"this accessory is not.." error is driving me crazy.

"this accessory is not optimized for this iPhone" error will not stop popping up on my phone every 10 seconds or so. Plugged in or not, it continues. Did an update, a full restore, NADA!. It is eating away at my battery life during the day and the joy I get when my iphone lights up with a text message is rapidly becoming a feeling of hate and frustration.

I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "
THis is means they are not charging on a 30 pin cable and the touch won't work in my Apple iPod dock - no audio out or charge. Have re powered both devices to no avail am wondering if the iOS version is the problem
    Help!

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

How To Fix "This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone” Error?

Clean the iPhone dock port with a clean dry tooth brush. If the warning occurs again, clean the dock port very carefully and thoroughly with isopropyll alcohol, especially the pins which are on top of the dock mid rib. If still warning, then take iPhone to Apple for Warranty service.

  • Why does my iphone give me this error "This accessory is not supported by iphone" on my iphone 4?

Just yesterday went to my local Costco and bought myself a Logitech docking station and it was a great deal. On the side of the box it lists the devices that it will support. The iPhone 4 is listed. When I hooked it up and plugged my iphone 4 into it. This error come up "This accessory is not supported by iPhone". First, I was thinking what a way to get customers to buy and end it will end up not working. Buyer Beware.
Apple should give us a update that will fix this software error on our iPhone's. There are millions of iPhone's out there and not having any problems using accessories and docking stations. Not fair to the rest of us out there that want the same benefit to the iPhone.

This has nothing to do with Logitech. I have tried other products in the past year and a half. My iphone has been giving me this error since iOS 5. Something in the software is preventing us to use these aftermarket equipment. My sister in laws iphone 4 has the iOS 6 and she has a JVC stereo in her home and has no problems or errors on her iphone 4.
My terminals are clean. I have given my iphone a factory reset and a restore. My iphone shouldn't be limited to uses of other products. In the near future I am planning on getting a new cellphone. I don't want to switch from apple.
Apple's next update for iPhone should fix this for us. So, we can use our docking stations.

    Hello abyjohn,
I would be concerned too if the speaker on my iPhone was not working, and if I was getting a message about the accessory not being optimized.  I found an article with some steps to take when you are experiencing issues like this.

error message is "this accessory is not optimized for this iphone" how can i delete the accessory whatever it is? the phone does not tell me. Thank you.

  • My Ipod Touch is giving a error message of 'This accessory is not supported by iPod Touch' whenever I dock it in my Bose Sound Dock and refuses to play but will charge the device?? am screaming mad and want to be able to play audio thru using the 2

my ipod touch will not play music thru the Bose sound dock and displays the message 'this accessory is not supported by iPod Touch' how can I fix it?

"This accessory is not supported" usually refers to an inability to charge the iPod, but the music should still play throguh the Bose dock. My iPod Touch works this way.
However, when the Bose refuses to make any sound, I unplug it from mains power for one minute. Then plug it back in and try again. This always sorts out the sound issue, but of course, it still will not charg the Touch.
    What happens in your case?

  • Just started getting intermittent error on my 3G:This accessory is not optimized for iPhone..." but nothing is connected or plugged in to it or anything?

Was just checking my iPhone and when I pressed the home button to wake it up the message "no sim installed" was on the screen,  obviously it was so I restarted the phone, that cleared it but then I started intermittently getting a popup message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone...(don't remember the rest), did a hard reset and still happening once in a while, there isn't anything plugged into or connected to my phone at all though, would appreciate any help or advice please

The most common reason for message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone" with nothing plugged in, is dust, debris etc. in the iPhone dock port. Clean the dock port with a clean dry toothbrush. If the message returns again, clean the dock port again very carefully using some isopropyll alcohol, especially the pins which are on top of the dock mid rib.

  • This accessory is not made... error

    Greeting folks,
My iPhone has been wacky! Out of nowhere it shut itself down whiel in the middle of a song. Then after I plugged it in for a while it finally came back on. However, now every few minutes or so the "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone" message comes up. The thing is, I have not been plugged into any accessory in weeks. And before you ask, yes I reset the phone.

    Hey Jorva,
Try using a small brush, like a toothbrush, to remove any debris from the dock adapter.
What accessory did you have the iPhone plugged into? Did it have the "Works with iPhone" logo?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1665
If its not caused by debris, make a reservation to have a Mac Genius take a look at it.

  • After iOS 8 update: "This accessory is not supported by this iPad" using Digital AV Adapter on iPad 2

After the update to iOS 8 on an iPad 2 I receive the error: "This accessory is not supported by this iPad" using a digital AV adapter. It works for about 20 seconds before I get the error. Same adapter worked with iOS 7.1, same adapter still works on my iPhone 4s with iOS 7.1.
Curious if anyone else has this issue. The adapter is not a genuine Apple adapter, so I think I'll just buy an official Apple adapter, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has upgraded to iOS 8 and can still use their digital AV adapter on iOS 8 with iPad 2, and what brand of adapter you have. Thanks!

Still not working. My adapter shows as an apple A1422. I can successfully plug it in to an iPad 2 with an older IOS but mine which is on 8.1.2, gives the error "This accessory is not supported by this iPad." I tried turning off the iPad and connecting it to the tv before turning it on. When it is turned on, it displays on the tv for a moment, then the message pops up and no picture is on the tv any longer. Clicking ok does not change the lack of a picture On the tv, but I can use the iPad as normal.
I've tried the adapter on a different iPad 2 that is not on IOS 8 and no message appears.
    Help, please!

  • IPhone 6 ios 8.0.2 "This accessory may not be supported"

I know this is a common issue as there are dozens of threads, but after reading more than a dozen I still do not have a solution.
Often, when I plug my brand new (10 days) lightening cord into my brand new (10 days) iPhone 6 to charge, I receive the "This accessory may not be supported" error message. The cord is the one that came with my new iPhone. I am running ios 8.0.2.
I suffered from this debilitating issue with my last phone (iphone 5s) also and consequently ended up having to buy 6 new lightening cords (3 were official and purchased through Apple.com). With the 5s, whenever I bought a new cord it would work for between one day to a few weeks, and then back to the "This accessory may not be supported" error message. I also tried cleaning the port of the 5s with no avail.
It shouldn't be happening to my brand new iPhone 6 (or any iphone for that matter). It's extremely frustrating. Last year while traveling through Central America, this problem was a huge bummer as the 5s (my only internet device) was often dead for days until I could find a place that sold lightening cords or find someone with one to borrow. I cannot believe it's happening again with my brand new iPhone 6! I never had this issue with my Samsung smartphones.
Can someone from Apple please comment on this issue?

There is no Apple here in this user to user technical forum.
If you're getting that message - take the charger to Apple and get a replacement, it is still under warranty.

  • IPhone 4 - Charging issues including "This accessory may not be supported."

So for the past couple of weeks, on and off, my iPhone 4 (2 years old) has been having intermittent charging issues. I have gone through four charging cords, all from Apple, and two charging blocks, both from Apple - none of these change/resolve the issue.
I had an online chat through Apple with someone a week ago, and she suggested resetting my settings only (resetting the entire phone was my husband's idea) - resetting the phone entirely did not resolve the issue, and resetting the settings (and only the settings) works for maybe 1-2 days maximum. Any of the following things happen when plugging in the phone to charge:
    1) The phone charges normally (very rare anymore, happens more often if I reset the settings on the phone first then put everything back the way I want it)
    2) The phone charges for maybe two seconds, then a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported." (8/10 times this happens, can usually get it to charge normally if I unplug and replug a bunch of times)
    3) The phone makes the noise/vibrates like it is charging, but the battery percentage will go down over time. (rare, but does happen)
An Apple store visit is not exactly...possible? I live an hour and a half away from my closest one, and the location is not easy to get to (cross a bridge, pay $13 toll, $13 to get back over to go home, and that's just the way there and back...forget finding the place). I have cleaned out the phone at the charging port more times than I can count. My husband seems to think it is a battery issue...thoughts?

iOS 7 will give errors on non Apple certified peripherals.  So make sure you only use Apple certified products. Did you backup the phone and then RESTORE AS NEW (not reset)? Try doing that by plugging the phone to iTunes on a computer. See if that helps. If it solves the problem, there could have been corrupted software on you phone. If not, it could be a hardware issue (including the battery), in which case you would need to go to a Apple Store or authorized service provider.

  • Can't get iPhone 6 to charge. "This accessory may not be supported."

Two days ago I noticed my phone would keep getting this message every time I tried to charge it. "This accessory may not be supported." It's the official Apple cable and adapter. I took that same cable/wall adapter and plugged it into my iPad and it worked fine. Tried restarting the phone, no fix. Earlier I started a chat with Apple Support, they made me restore my phone, and that ended up fixing it... for a couple hours. After coming back home and plugging it back in, the same error message keeps popping up again and now the phone won't charge. I didn't install any new apps or change any settings after restoring the phone. Has anyone else been having this problem? I've made sure the port and the cable are both clean.

Hey thought I'd just follow up real quick with my phone. After messing around with it I discovered the only way I could get it to charge was to plug it in, close the error message, and turn the phone off. While it was off it would charge, just couldn't be on. Brought it to the store after making an appointment and was in and out within 15 minutes with a brand new phone that's been working fine. Must be a hardware issue. Head to the store and they should take care of it for you!
